Being completely honest. The Jazz fleeced both the TWolves and Cavs with those trades. Have you guys seen how Markkanen has been playing? Markkanen for Donovan straight up might have been fair but the Cavs gave up a lot more than just Markkanen.
And the worse part is, the Timberwolves could have cut the price by over half if they had just put lottery protections on those traded firsts. A bunch of potential 15th overalls is a hell of a lot less than a bunch of potential 1st overalls.
I think KDs foot being on the line will be one of the most important moments in modern nba history. If the Nets had won, they had a great shot at the title. With a title, there's no way the team would've melted down like this, and the players wouldn't have been traded as early. That moment has led to a shake up of the nba's top teams (76ers, suns, mavs) and has changed the trajectory of at least 5 teams. Would love to see a video on how this disaster turned out in a few years.
Idk if they beat the Suns, tbh, and his foot was on the line, so none of it matters. Too many egos and toxic me first personalities was destined to implode at some point, regardless.
I can understand the Nets here. They have a diverse pool of talent to give time and see who sticks out, and those picks will probably allow them to round out their team into a very consistent, deep roster. They're prioritizing team basketball and want to grow their own stars with Claxton and Thomas with a bunch of great two way players. No superstar drama, no untenable cap situations. I honestly like their strategy.
Somehow there are superstar change to the worst because he win chip and sometimes they get better when win chip Durant kyrie to arrogant to think they can shut the media down just with they skill, bisede championship team is come from teamwork and sacriface. Thats why we saw guy like MJ, the team know how best to work with MJ and other guy should sacriface his talent for good resume like steph did for durant. Well just my opinion. I more like to build your own star in trustfull organization like nowday GSW, Milwaukee, Mav for example. But its not mean player like durant kyrie lebron who need to jump team to chase chip is bad, just sometimes it won't work because there is no chemistry for both in start play.
You can come back and roast my ass to hell if I'm wrong on this, but if Cam Thomas and Ben Simmons are going to the finals together ever, I will literally eat my own feces. As explained in the video, the trade looks good on paper and honestly Nets might've not really have had much of a choice, but this whole thing is a disaster. They are never going to do shit with these assets.
Or just trade alot of the peices they got everyone of the player that have minus like Ben has value to alot of teams especially ones looking to contend
yea idk where Jxmy thinks holding KD hostage would have gotten the Nets. not a ring. ofc it feels like a bad trade but it's either that or have KD unhappy for 3 years, requesting trades every few months
My biggest takeaway, stars and superstars get what they want quite often now. It's been reported that both Durant and Kyrie requested trades and they both essentially got what they wanted.
I barely pay any mind to the NBA anymore. The league is now a trash product. No defense, all rules changes favored offense for 20 straight years, player empowerment has led to toxic personalities putting teams and fan bases through the wringer. Players more focused on politics and their own legacies than winning. Players winding up on 4 teams in 4 years. It's hard to keep track. They need to fix the league. It's broken.
@@chilldoc9638 he said nothing about the league being bad. it’s just too offense sided. in the nfl, the defense can completely shut down a great offense. in nba, the team with the better offense players typically walks out with a W. todays league is like rome, a good defense is a good offense

Arguably, these last 3-5 days felt like an entire off-season. From Nets and Mavs to Lakers and Suns, the whole league has gone wild. It is exciting though, and worth staying up until like 4am as a European fan. Meanwhile, Nuggets and Celtics are chilling at the very top of the league... It will be VERY interesting to see the now improved(?) teams challenge them, though.
@@IceDunker-2000 very true, my friend. Personally, I can't wait for the all-star weekend, but the league is obviously way past it already, and building up to the playoffs each day
@@prosaic_viper I know right. Like last season it felt moderate and easing-going as it slowly gravitated closer to the playoffs. But this year we’re more than halfway through the season already!
They have some serious talent and depth now, will be really interesting to see if they can put it together. Dinwiddle was playing like a star the last month too people are sleeping on how much he has improved.
They just dropped at least 3 spots in the East with this move and they weren't top three to begin with. IF things work out okay they are now a 'play in' team. If things don't work out okay they lose 2 out of 3 for the rest of the season and the players go to Cancun and watch the NBA playoffs from the pool-side bar.
As a Warriors fan, I welcome Suns fans to the club. No matter what happens now, whether you win or lose in the next few years. You’ll hear nothing except for 4 words: “You had Kevin Durant”
ITs different. You guys have ALL TIME Player generational talent Steph, with Klay Thompson who is also arguably a top 50 player all time, and Draymond one of the best all time defenders, whom already won a few chips before Durant. then added Durant on top of all that. The Suns (i am not defending I actually dont like them even before Durant) Have a past his prime and gets tired if her exerts to much in a game Chris Paul, Devin Booker who is a great offensive talent but chokes(Klay is better than him IMO), and Ayton who sometimes shows up for big games but is often rather quite(also got out rebounded by Luka in that series) They need Durant to win (I still think they wont) Golden state did not.
As a suns fan from phoenix I'm hyped but also cautious. We gave away a lot of depth with Makal Bridges and Cam Johnson. Both of them were young players that developed their whole careers within the suns ecosystem. In addition to our first round draft picks we've pretty much traded our future away. Kevin Durant is one of the greatest but he's very injury prone especially recently. I think there's a bigger chance that this could blow up in the suns face than people are willing to admit right now
Yeah, the odds of both KD and CP3 going through an entire playoff run without getting injured is pretty much 0. That's assuming they stay healthy enough during the rest of the regular season to even make the post season. They're only 2.5 games ahead of the 12th place team. That's not much of a buffer.
username checks out. jokes aside, i agree with you, although i think with a healthy KD this could very well work in the suns favour and bring a championship.
TBH, KD isn't that injury prone. He doesn't rely too much on attacking the basket, and the times he goes down are hard hits. He's not like AD who pulls a muscle while helping up his teammates. I think it's more of a bad luck thing than him being injury prone.
I actually really like the Nets after this deal. They've got a solid group of really defensive underdogs, all of which are likeable, and they have a ton of assets to start building back up. They're going to be a fun team to watch imo, even if they don't have championship aspirations.
I don‘t agree, I think the Nets got great value. You said it yourself, KD era in Brooklyn was terrible in terms of results. It just wasn‘t working. And he wanted to leave. Also, as great as he is, he‘s quite injury prone and it won‘t get better with age. After the trades, the Nets have a solid team with some excellent players. Great defensive players, very good shooters. If they can get organized offensively, get everyone involved and ball and bodies moving, they can make a run without a clear number one option. Also they‘re a young team, they will still get better. And they got a shitload of picks. I think they can look optimistically into the future after the big three disaster. And the suns: I like them but I don‘t think they got a great deal. The starting lineup is very impressive now, but they‘re lacking in depth. Also who‘s gonna play defense now? They gave up some of their best young defensive players. If they don‘t get a title this or next year, they will regret this. The window is short.
@@ocarinamonkey1708 Yep. A casual channel made for casuals. I rarely click his videos. It's amateur hour. Thinking Basketball, Johnny Arnett, Cosgrove, Andy Hoops, etc are all more entertaining, do more research and aren't so biased towards modern players and the modern game. 👍
when people say the suns lack depth now its a clear indication they didn’t know the roster before the trade. the suns lost one player off the bench, craig, the rest is the same…
As a Suns fan and season ticket holder, KD has given me hope that we can get back on track. I like Jimmy's assessment of the situation. I also really want to see another Suns vs Mavs series. Thanks for the great content as usual Jimmy!!! 👏
I'm not surprised you like the assessment. It was 8 minutes of saying your team may make the finals, how amazing they will be, how smart they are, how stupid the Nets are. lmao
Paul, Booker, Durant from mid range.. they are all top 5 mid range shooters in the league. That mid range game from the Suns will be deadly and unstoppable.
The amount of power the players have is definitely getting crazy like there might come a time where small market teams have no shot to be good outside of a year or so if they get lucky in the draft
From Brooklyn to Phoenix, from Oakland, to Portland, then back to Oakland. Or BKN to DAL. New city, new house, new coach, new arena, new teammates. Pack your bags and take your family there. Maybe it won't be for long. What astonishes the most out of these trades, is the fact that players like Durant or Irving are willing to do all this in the middle of a grueling season. And on top of that, the draft picks. Those who will be selected, are starting to live their dream now, maybe they aren't even thinking about the NBA. Many people around NBA players think about everything, when a trade occurs. But there's a lot to think about. An NBA player is an enterprise. When you think about the details going on in a trade, the humans and miles involved, it's just.. mind boggling.
Rofl. Who cares about this stuff when you make fucking FORTY MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR?! Fly me first class and afterwards book me a suite in the most expensive hotel in town for a couple weeks. 10k a night? Even IF I have to pay the bill myself... Meh... 150k? peanuts. And when it comes to the whole 'human' side of these transactions: With arrogant pricks like most of the players involved atm... You seriously think that Irving or Durant or Bridges give 2 shits about anybody except themselves? HA!
I think the KD trade is pretty good, no way the Nets were going to get far in the playoffs without a big change, now they have talented young players from the suns and tons of draft capital.
Honestly I think this video is a rare miss by jxmy the nets actually pulled a smart move rather then keeping this amazing player who probably won’t accomplish anything with ur franchise and later leave in free agency they traded him when he was still a hot asset for potential future stars
The Nets came out on top on this one. They didn't really even have much chance before Kyrie left, and Durant is 34 and injury prone. It's a good long-run move, which should be the only focus at this point.
I agree with this. I think that 4 firsts and those really solid role players are worth KD especially when you know KD isn’t going to carry you to a championship. Not many players can do that. Lebron and MJ all had their number 2 guy. Hard to do it alone
I think the Nets can serve as a case study in how not to put together a "super team." I heard someone make a great point on YT yesterday, that you need at least one home grown player (e.g., Dwayne Wade in Miami) to bring free agents in to have some stability. Of course, having a good owner, GM and coach are other important factors.

I don't think the nets are quite so bad off as it looks at first blush. They've got a solid group of quality role players and starters, just need to find or develop a centerpiece. They are so flush in 3&D guys that they are likely going to need to move some, and everyone likes some good 3&D.
@@EJxSB that got Bridges Johnson DFS and Dinwiddie. That's 3 quality 2 way players and a decent PG. This isn't the same weak defensive team anymore. Bridges was runner up in DPOY voting and DFS is an excellent defender. Add that to Claxton and Simmons if he fixes his health and you have a ton of defenders. They lack a star to contend but they are a very solid team with good depth. They were a thin team with a few stars and now they are a deep team with no stars.
To put you into perspective, Midseason deadlines trades are statistically more downgraded values than those Offseason deadlines, if you look at the history of trades. Offseason trades got more inflated due to availability of free agents, no worry of giving up players with more alloted roster spots open and Cap space market is easier to conduct moves than of Midseason trade deadlines, with less open spots, you need boughout or either you can't suddenly waive guaranteed players, you have to match salary. Thats what makes this 2023 Mid season deadlines so Unique than ever before, i never seen at this extent of players to be traded.
The nets peaked when in 2018-19 when they went 42-40 and won a playoff game with a young, hungry team that played for cheap and a savvy but mostly unknown coach who doubled their wins from 2 seasons ago. Then they traded away their souls for unmotivated stars and a big name coaching hire who was not prepared.
actually it would feel even worse if they actally go to the finals and win a ring co they couldn't contribute to the team when they won and that's probably the most tragic thing
@@aaryasharma4940 Hopefully the suns can win it this year, so mikal and cam still get rings. Also I agree with what book said "we'll see what they're doing in what - 2026?"
Great analogy! I would like to see a video regarding the dollar for four quarters trade in the history of the NBA. Keep it fair with both good and bad ones. Also including outside factors, such as the changes with cap space…
The nets falling apart after having harden kd and kyrie really just makes me appreciate Lebron more for his heat championships. Just because you have the talent doesn’t guarantee a thing
Nobody was ever concerned about the egos or predictability of Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, or Ray Allen. They’re very different situations with very different people.
I always felt like Brooklyn was just such a kyrie and kd type of place, they just looked like they belonged there. Tgink all of us wish we got to see them acc play together
I think the nets are gunna be a low key fun team. They have a lot of really solid role players and will probably be an ideal spot for a star level talent looking for their own team. They are pretty much in the position they were in before bringing in kd and kyrie. Solid team with no star
to be honest, having just one star in your team is pretty miserable. You aren't going to get any higher, your star is going to be injured most of the season or just tired at the end of the season... And he's not going to be happy and the fans are going to hate that you are wasting his best years... Heck, he might even force the trade with some BS like eating too much or beating people up in the locker room :D In some ways, they haven't really lost any "result oriented" value at the Durant trade. That being said, they should have got more rebuilding assets out of it - but there isn't a "price list" on players... It's also about what the market has to offer, at that time.
I usually don’t have anything bad so say about jimmy’s takes but these trades were necessary and extremely beneficial for the nets to make. There is always something going on with Kyrie and he wasn’t going to resign, and to waste kds last 2-3 good years trying to win a championship that they weren’t going to win doesn’t make sense. The package they got wasn’t pennies on the dollar 4 starters and countless first round picks.
I love jimmy but this video is honestly weak. Man called kyrie an All time great when his resume is one ring with LeBron and playoff failure ever since.

I feel like there's too much Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson slander honestly. Those guys are going to be stars. I'd have rather kept them than sell the future for an aging Durant. We could have won the title with the core we had.
This trade proved that slapping superstars together on one team won't always pan out. It's a shame the Nets wasted so much money on them but I'm sure everyone in the front office sleeps a lot easier now.

From a Phoenix fan, they gotta win NOW. I love Mikal and also Cam. But moves needed to be made. Pressure is on now. Hopefully everyone stays healthy. Edit: I would love to see the Suns go up against GS and Dallas in the playoffs. Epic.
Yeah, I don't hate what Phoenix did. I think they're probably better right now and _maybe_ next year, but CP isn't going to last and you're really going to miss Bridges. KD can carry teams, though, and CP, Ayton, Booker, and KD sounds like a potential title. Good luck from a Laker fan looking for something fun to watch.
@@jgray2718 for sure. I guess That’s where they have to trust that James Jones will make the right moves in order to keep the ship afloat and sailing smooth.
You have a good point but listen, trading KD for the 2023 first round pick means they could pick Victor Wembanyama, (a tall finisher shooter playmaker and more) Scoot Henderson with his good point gaurd skills, GG jackson and more. All of them have good potential in their rookie years. Then 2025 draft, they could draft Tre Johnson, Ian Jackson and more. Then more to come for 2027 and 2029. But then also remember The nets will still have ben simmons, not the best shooter but still good at attacking the rim. Thank you for reading my theory.
Looking back on this video, the true takeaway for me is that the Gobert trade was too prematurely paraded as the worst trade in NBA history. As long as you have a plan with what you’re doing (like the wolves seemingly did) and aren’t just trying to go out and get great players (like the Suns and Mavericks did), it should work out. A good video idea would be about how the NBA or sports fans as a whole are too impatient. I know that last year as a Wolves fan I was.
Really sweet that you thought they were contenders before the trades, apparently their management didn't see what you did. As a Celtics fan we were never worried about Brooklyn.
As a Nuggets fan i was excited that this may be our year to win the west. Now with these two trades it makes that dream a little worrisome. Should be a good battle in the west for sure though.
I’m a nuggets fan too. We should still hold on to the #1 seed. The grizzlies have some chance, and anything’s possible, but it’s a long way for the Suns or Mavs to catch up. I really hope they end up as the 2/3 seeds and play in the 2nd round. That would give us our best shot if we didn’t play either one until the WCF.
@@webgem14 Agree'd, I think we will hold #1 seed by the end of the season. With that said theres a lot of time for KD and Kyrie to get accustomed to their teams. They can either be great fits or bad fits. Should be a good playoffs for the Nuggets either way if they all stay healthy.
I don't know about that, I think you guys are still the best team in the West. Maybe Phoenix, but that's assuming KD is healthy, which isn't a sure thing.

I think the question is less about whether the Nets won or lost trades and more about whether or not they got maximum value and I'm not sure they didn't. Are they worse now? Yeah, but the Nets have been going into an inevitable rebuild since at least this summer with the Durant trade request and Kyrie being himself. I do not think Kyrie's value on the market was that high. The rumored Lakers deal was better, but I'm not convinced that rumor is true, especially considering what the Lakers did over the last couple of days. I think there are only a few teams out there that are desperate enough to even want to deal with Kyrie and I'm pretty sure that after the initial honeymoon period in Dallas, that is going to be a trainwreck. I see no reason why Kyrie will be different in Dallas than he was in Brooklyn or Boston. With only Durant on the team and with his injury history, I can see the Nets being stuck in NBA purgatory for the rest of his contract, so get a bunch of assets for the future. You aren't going to be able to trade Kevin Durant for equal value. There are only a handful of players in the league with equal value and none of them are on the trade block, but with a bunch of cap space and a bunch of draft capital, the Nets are in a good position to start a rebuild through trades, free agency and the draft. If we've learned anything from Danny Ainge, it is that draft capitol has high value. The Durant/Irving experiment was a failure. The Nets know it was a failure. It was time to start over instead of falling for the sunk cost fallacy.
exactly!! jimmy literally says himself that kyrie and kd werent able to make the nets into a championship team so i dont understand how he then concluded that it was a bad trade. why would you keep doing something when its clearly not working ? better to just cut your losses.
Do you think with this happening, regardless of if they win or not, KD's legacy will be more tied into always being in a superteam? The okc one shouldn't count but after a few years, people might forget harden wasn't exactly the player he is now and a few years ago
Yes, even excluding Harden. How the nets history went down with 3 superstars has to be the worst way a team has fumbled. Imagine if Shaq and Kobe never won a chip together after playing for 3+ years
I think you're right that being on superteams won't help his legacy, even if he's the most talented player on them. I feel like he might play in Phoenix for 2 years, realize CP is too old, they traded their best young players _(Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges)_ and all their draft picks to get him, and demand another trade _(possibly to my Lakers to play with his buddy Lebron, which I think would be a disaster)._ I think the Nets end up more successful with no KD and teams realize that you can't just throw a bunch of talent together and figure it out on the fly. You really do need supporting players and a plan for how you're going to use everyone, not just a pile of talent.
I never really saw how staggeringly bad the Gobert trade was until you put it side by side with the Durant deal.

@Marco Esteban I wouldn't say that.... without that Kyrie injury, they most likely would've been in the finals.

ITs different. You guys have ALL TIME Player generational talent Steph, with Klay Thompson who is also arguably a top 50 player all time, and Draymond one of the best all time defenders, whom already won a few chips before Durant. then added Durant on top of all that.
The Suns (i am not defending I actually dont like them even before Durant) Have a past his prime and gets tired if her exerts to much in a game Chris Paul, Devin Booker who is a great offensive talent but chokes(Klay is better than him IMO), and Ayton who sometimes shows up for big games but is often rather quite(also got out rebounded by Luka in that series)
They need Durant to win (I still think they wont) Golden state did not.
@@Texasjr93I’m pretty sure they won 1 chip before Durant. Then they blew the 3-1 finals lead then signed Durant and won two more.
Agree, great move but it’s riskier than most ppl are saying.
TBH, KD isn't that injury prone. He doesn't rely too much on attacking the basket, and the times he goes down are hard hits. He's not like AD who pulls a muscle while helping up his teammates. I think it's more of a bad luck thing than him being injury prone.
No telling how Booker will react either. He seems like a guy who wants the ball and attention. He is now in KD's shadow.
I actually really like the Nets after this deal. They've got a solid group of really defensive underdogs, all of which are likeable, and they have a ton of assets to start building back up. They're going to be a fun team to watch imo, even if they don't have championship aspirations.
They are all underdogs with no superstar. I would love to see them reaching 2nd round of the playoffs.

From Brooklyn to Phoenix, from Oakland, to Portland, then back to Oakland. Or BKN to DAL. New city, new house, new coach, new arena, new teammates. Pack your bags and take your family there. Maybe it won't be for long.

These February trades shaked up the NBA.
A lot of big teams making big changes.
I'm a Lakers fan, so I'm glad as hell we got rid of Westbrick.
everyone: this trade deadline not gonna be that great
joe tsai: *not on my watch*
1. When that Gobert trade went down I was scratching my head on how Utah pulled that off. Then I remember Danny "finessegawd" Ainge was in Utah FO. Most ppl probably don't remember but when he was in BOS other teams didn't want to trade with him because they felt they were going to get finessed lol.
2. KD only has a few years left. Nobody wants to talk about it but his body is breaking down. Just look at the games he's missed the last 4 yrs compared to his first 7 years in the league.
3. Lastly Brooklyn is just as much to blame for the "big 3" failures as KD/Ky/Harden. They just kept making horrible decisions. Trading J Allen, hiring Nash. I'm not saying those players deserve no blame but the Nets as equally responsible for this group failing
Yeah choosing DeAndre Jordan over Jarrett Allen to appease KD and Kyrie looks really bad now
Can you help explain the Danny "finessegawd" thing?
@@AcidLightning Danny Ainge aka finessegawd -
Stole Kevin Garnett from the T'Wolves for spare parts:
Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Sebastian Telfair and two 2009 first-round picks (1 of which was their own that they were reacquiring)
Stole Ray Allen (and Glen Davis) from the Sonics for spare parts:
Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak, and Jeff Green
Fleeced the Brooklyn Nets by trading them a bunch of geriatrics in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry:
Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, Tornike Shengelia, Reggie Evans, Keith Bogans and unprotected first-rounders in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The players didn't amount to much but the picks were very important. The Nets were terrible, so the picks were high. The Celtics turned those picks into JAYLEN BROWN and KYRIE IRVING!! Absolutely ridiculous SMDH.
@@Eko58 Amazing summary you left out though one of those picks turned into Tatum as well lol.
@@grandpa203 Yeah, somehow I forgot about that pick swap. Ainge is a Jedi.
Can't wait for the LBJ scoring record vid where you discuss the GOAT debate for the 36th time and still end up with the same results xD.
Your work is absolutely amazing. Great edits and greater commentary
I think at this point everyone has made up their mind which side they're on. For me, being 44 you can guess which side I'm on lol. Have a good day.
@@OvercomeComeOverI’m 50 & LBJ’s my guy. I can see the argument for either one, though. Kareem’s also up in the mix for me.
It's flipping annoying how much I love this channel but it's never popping up in my recommendation for like the last year or so 😒😒😒😒😒😤😤😤😤... I click as soon as I see one of Jxmy's videos!! They used to pop up right away! But the last year or so I have to search 🔍 up his channel!!! An IDK why 😡🤬... Love the channel!! I'm a widower Dad of 2 and love the channels that I do watch!! So hopefully this comment will make RUclips algorithm make it Pop up!😏
Honestly sad that we let some guys go that had put in work more then the four 1st rounders, but am excited to see Durant play live
Honestly, I still expect the Nuggets to kick their ass this season. If they keep their squad healthy they are a very dangerous team, have the unicorn of the league, good locker room, high chemistry. They also added Reggie Jackson en Thomas Bryant which will lift their bench tremendously. They are very underrated.

"Luka's finally gonna get some help"
How bad did this age?
Suns with the newest super team since the 2017 Warriors, and Kevin Durant was on BOTH of those teams!
Back here just to say that Kyrie messed up another playoff team
This is one of the weirdest trade deadlines ever🤣
We all know that Jimmy is going to bring us some crazy video about LeBron's record
Gobert trade may have been atrocious, but the Timberwolves still swept the Suns with a healthy KD, Booker, and Beal.
We can't root for teams no more, players have too much power to break our hearts.
Spot on dude, waste of time putting any effort into a single organization anymore with this shit. What are we supposed to root for year in and year out? The mascot? The shitty owner? So envious of warriors and bucks fans right now
I'm a player fan over teams anyways
@@Slipperydolphin1 I root for the Sacramento Kings since they have the only Portuguese guy over there: Neemias Queta. And that's about it for me ;)
I think the question is less about whether the Nets won or lost trades and more about whether or not they got maximum value and I'm not sure they didn't.
Man, the Suns just can't stop choking, can they😒
Nobody like playing in Brooklyn it seem like 🤣🤣
Do you think with this happening, regardless of if they win or not, KD's legacy will be more tied into always being in a superteam?
Watching after timberwolves swept KD?
What he said about the Rudy Gobert trade aged like milk
At least the Kyrie trade aged like wine.
Dude I've been watching your channel for a min!! I freakin love your videos man I miss the Saxophone music lol much love J ❤️
