I agree 110% as a teen in the 2000s this is what I did for fun. I'm glad to see him back. To all you teens now wear gloves!!! when wrenching. My bike mech instructor in 05 had the hand shakes and told us to wear gloves. If you can't ride what you build what is the point?
After not really watching many of your videos for the past couple years(subcribed since 2016 tho) i enjoyed this one alot. Its wild how fast time goes by, like the content and the more matured you. Thanks dude
Those were great machines, better than the similar sized hondas of those days. My buddy growing up had an identical one except his really was trashed. That thing you have is near mint! Anyways it ran forever took beating after beating untill the frame wore out where the swingarm bearings would normally go, he rode it without any to speak of for years and destroyed the bearing housings on it.
Had a slide stuck in a carb last year. Used brake cleaner, and it slid out after about 10 minutes of sitting. tried WD40 first, with the same results. Cleaned it all up with carb cleaner, and still runs great today.
I remember going with my dad buying a brand new Trimoto 225 at the Yamaha dealership just like this one ! We loaded it in the trailer behind my dads old honda civic, we went to the woods near rapid lakes, my dad started the three wheeler my sister hopped infront I was in the back. We where rolling for about 10 minutes my dad did a quick turn and the ATC tipped and we all fell to the ground. I had a broken jaw my sister a broken leg and my dad had a few scrapes and burns... It was the end of the three wheeler my dad sold it and never ever bought trikes or quads again ! He felt so bad for all these years.
Easy pulling on that carburetor soak the thing in carburetor cleaner spray in the slides will release you pulling a hard enough and you'll break your cables or worse and everything is stuck because it's been sitting probably 10 plus years or 5 plus with ethanol fuel
One of my first bikes around 8 was a clapped Honda 3 wheeler with no brakes and I got it runing with the spark pug from my weed eater bike and pop starting it Only way to stop was to down shift Good times dumb parents
3DMachines yeah this is why I have learning disability’s now xD Jk seriously thoe wtf were Thay thinking even if my kid paid for it I would not let him ride that old death trap But shit we were poor 🤷🏽♂️
The wheels are offset see if they can be switched from side to side it's a good machine I had a 83 lots of fun to ride only problem I had was the ujoint
My dad used one back when he was a lifeguard in his prime time!😂 hes 73 now and doesnt look 73 at all! No grey hair yet still waiting on that😂 love your videos keep em up! My edit: they quickly started hating them! For obvious reasons. For them tipping over so easily. Three wheelers kinda ruined atving for my dad which is sad!😥
My brother and I had this 3-wheeler when we were kids. If memory serves me right the OEM tires were not as wide as the ones on your machine. Ours seems to have more clearance on the battery box. I have great stories and memories from our adventures on the 225 DX.
Your right OEM e the same size as the ones he has but they r shaped differently more of a balloon shape I have 2 of these one with OEM tires and one with the same ones he has tires say they e same size but OEM from the back look taller and skinnier
Hard to believe but I've had really good luck using Pine Sol for cleaning carburetors just let it soak and it'll eat every bit of it really cleans aluminum also and it's cheap and will not hurt your gaskets at all
One of the most garnished carbs I've seen, good thing it comes right off with carb clean water corrosion in carbs is a whole different story lol, awesome bike super fun project bike that's still in amazing shape love yours vids keep these ones up haha
@@3DMachines should but the real question is when will they fray and let go haha if not it's a small quad I'm sure ebay or amazon has some cheap cables if all else fails
Did you say you welded the cast iron bracket at the beginning? How did you keep it from cracking and how long did the weld hold? Welding cast can be done but it's tricky. I pack it in sand immediately after welding to slow down the cooling process
Luv the vid man......I got 2 of these trimoto's....1 is identical 84 yellow DX, other is a 85 black/red/gold DR w/ reverse. (would sell to the right person)
Wow I wish I could find one for that price. I found a 200 YTM in a scrapyard but the engine is seized and the axle assembly was shattered. I just bought an axle assembly for $50 so I have $100 in this awesome three wheeler and I have Marvel mystery oil in the cylinder...
lever that siezed slide out with a big screwdriver. It would pop right out. one it a thousand times & you got nothing to lose, The fuel turns ransid and becomes like superglue.
Haven't messed With many carbs like this..the throttle is seized from rust, etc gotta pry it up through the hole you were prying from but don't scar it up
Good idea ordering a carb, but to get that thing freed up you need to get the good carb cleaner that's sold in a gallon paint can. That old gas basically turned into schlack and the cleaner will eat it up.
Should have soaked the carb in your ultrasonic cleaner with the cables still installed into the carburetor. It'll free up the gunk holding up the slides.
I recently bought a 20 horse Honda GX620 v-twin engine that had been sitting unused for several years and when I checked the oil it was very black molasses-like and reeked heavily of old varnish (exactly what old fuel does), the shit made me choke. After draining out the oil I pulled the crank case side cover off and lots of thick molasses sludge left behind. I used a full can of brake cleaner alone in hosing out the case, side cover and its oil galleries and also I pulled the oil pump out and gave it a good cleaning. NO way was that engine getting started up with that molasses.
The privous owner taighten the carb to hard so the carb has been oval and is destroyd:( I did that to on my Honda mt50:( The only thing to do is a new carb:( Btw Loooooooovee your videos man keep up the good work, you make my days everytime you load up something. Lots off love from Sweden💪🏻
Varnished carb.. paint thinner will maybe work if you soak it long enough. As soon as ya pull it out of the thinner pull the slide n choke out.. maybe.. if you still decide to keep that carb. Then wipe all that out. Paint thinner kinda melts that stuff away. Like tar after you soak it.
I have a 3 wheeler similar to this one but it has no power. Had it running off jumper cables and accidently shifted into first and touched the cables now I have no power what do you think it might be.?
Next time your having issues that bad with varnish and stuff being jammed domt be afraid to place stuff up with carb clean it will break it free the quickest
Carb cleaner works good on that old hard varnish but will destroy rubber seals and plastic parts. If you could soak it (submerged) in kerosene or mineral spirits a few days that might free everything up.
Stuck carbs is a yamaha thing, my choke got stuck on my ttr from a few years ago. I think its a bad quality aluminum corroding to steel parts from the choke and the slide needle. I have also seen that in a lot of tecumseh stuff, just poor quality materials id say.
They didnt have reverse until 1985 and they were the 225dr, and DO NOT paint that headlight bezel yellow, the blue ones are hard to find, sell the blue and buy a yellow, also the tank shrouds are off a ytm 200, the decals are different
I had the same problem with a carborator on a quad, i got it loosen up by heating it a little bit, my guess was bad petrol dried inside or soemthing. hope this helps someone else then me :D
"the sidewall's shot but still got pretty good tread" LOL....Trailpro's tread is made out of the hardest rubber known to Man. Those probably have 35K miles on them with another 100K left 😂

Just a tinkering in the garage on a, WTF happened to this machine..... loving the content kind of back to the old days type of vid
Love the old yamaha 3 wheelers, my dad had a black and gold 225dx. I still have a Tri-Z as well, definitely hyped to see where this project goes!
This is the Dalton us original viewers know and love
MarMotoring yes dude it’s been years since of watched I forget how I use to watch him every day

I rolled one of these as a kid doing a half ass jump & jammed the foot peg through my lower calf, 50 stitches later I was good as new
Good video. This is what got me hooked years ago. You tinkering with the play by play. Keep it up man.
It's awesome to see people restoring these 3 wheelers. I still have my 1984 Kawasaki Tecate 250. Love that beast!
When I was 8 my stepdad bought me a Yamaha 125. That was in 1980 I miss it. Lots of fun

Old fuel makes slides stick my guy,
Screwdriver pry up on the slide gently from the carb opening
Soak that slide with pb blaster. It has additives wd40 doesnt that will break down the oxidation on it
These things are a beast i had one and it never let me down
I like these videos...less show boating...more the real you😊👍
Best video of yours I’ve watched in a long time. Really enjoyed this one.

This 100%. Those u joints and yokes kill alot of these. 225dr u joints are bigger and barely fit in the housing, but they are cheaper and last longer.
I’ve rode a 3-wheeler all my life it’s one of the few things i know how to work on almost perfectly

for the carburetor try hot water to un-seize it, had the same issue and that worked a charm for me
Love watching his videos just wish he uploaded more then he does like he use to but I understand he's a busy guy

PB blast it and try prying the slide with a flat head screwdriver. Its worked for me before on my 1981 honda 180 semiauto pull start
