I believe the people who are especially bothered are more concerned about the framing of the content in the work as opposed to the actual acts itself. If you read the very specific political buzz terms and phrases, as well as complaints highlighted, I think it’s obvious that it’s supposed to be Allegory and not just a “Story so turn your brain off.” That said… I sortve thought it was entirely intentional satire…? That it was actively trying to depict the two protagonists as obviously deranged. They literally can’t see the aliens as people due to a few examples and various behaviors they frame through their own lens. Yes the characters are bad people but it's pretty damn clear they are written to be such and we don't even know why they are like that yet. It touches on racism, xenophobia etc. But guess what? No, that's not a valid reason. Getting bumped into on the street, getting abused by your boss, getting hit by a drunk driver etc. are all bad things that bad people do, and the MC is completely within her right to dislike those aliens. It's unreasonable though to ascribe blame to the entire group because of the actions of specific individuals. That's the racist part.

I haven't read this, but a manga about a racist MC sounds like it can have incredible potential. Imagine the story starting off with some unhinged bullshit, and the MC's arcs depend on his character development, seeing how he can actually become allies and friends with "the enemy". The people who scream "rAcIsM!" whenever they see it in fiction need to learn what creative power is. You make stories. And those stories can be amazing. Just because a story contains racism doesn't mean it's propaganda used to turn everybody into a nazi or some shit. It's the same as murderous villains in any movie. Why don't they scream in terror on twitter when a villain shoots another character in the head? In a way, isn't shooting a mfr in the head worse than being racist? Such a fascinating topic, many layers to it, and the only way to tackle it is by thinking from outside the box, not from within. When you tackle these types of problems from within the box, you always end up choosing a side. And sides bring division. Think outside the box, people. Think like a God. There were two panels, one blatantly showing a western dude (Drawn normally) talking about about the aliens and another panel of a crowd where you can clearly see a black man in the corner also drawn normally. Why weren't they drawn as aliens? Seriously, I get that Japan ain't the cool and happy place some weebs may think, and it definitely has xenophobia and racism, but this clearly ain't it. I wasn't mad at Frieren the character for hating the demons, I was annoyed with Frieren the series because the demons quite obviously weren't just animals mimicking speech and thought. Just read the first chapter and it seems interesting. Pretty sure it draws parallels to concerns for immigration in Japan in a pretty good way. If people don't like it, don't read it. It is fiction and probably a satire.
Its metaphor for colonialism not immigration. The signs are all there, a technologically advanced society aids a backwards society, the colonizers have a sense of superiority over the indigenous people, they physically abuse indigenous workers and are able to get away with fatal traffic crimes without repercussion. In the end, the protagonists aren't portrayed as noble or heroic. They are unhinged and desperate. Their actions are supposed to be taken as grotesque and amoral. I'm willing to bet that later, the aliens will be shown to eat humans as well. It is meant to be controversial, and everyone who is complaining will just draw more people to read it.
This feels like a series where Hannibal killed and ate aliens instead of people. There were how many seasons of that series and people not only praised that series, they said things like "I can fix him." Let's not forget that less than a decade ago, people tried to cancel Shield Hero because it had the concept of women can do bad things and lie to get their own way, and it caused a massive controversy where the series actually gained popularity because it wasn't as bad as people said it was.
It seems people forget, media being offensive and making you uncomfortable can be a good thing. They also forget Japan is closed off and has some of the strictest immigration regulations. No wonder they make content that reflects and even glorifies these policies

Also there's been plenty of racism and discrimination present in other stories, like Frieza killing the Saiyans or the Uchiha clan being ostracized by the Leaf Village. No, that's not a valid reason. Getting bumped into on the street, getting abused by your boss, getting hit by a drunk driver etc. are all bad things that bad people do, and the MC is completely within her right to dislike those aliens. It's unreasonable though to ascribe blame to the entire group because of the actions of specific individuals. That's the racist part.

I haven't read this, but a manga about a racist MC sounds like it can have incredible potential. Imagine the story starting off with some unhinged bullshit, and the MC's arcs depend on his character development, seeing how he can actually become allies and friends with "the enemy".
The people who scream "rAcIsM!" whenever they see it in fiction need to learn what creative power is. You make stories. And those stories can be amazing. Just because a story contains racism doesn't mean it's propaganda used to turn everybody into a nazi or some shit. It's the same as murderous villains in any movie. Why don't they scream in terror on twitter when a villain shoots another character in the head? In a way, isn't shooting a mfr in the head worse than being racist? Such a fascinating topic, many layers to it, and the only way to tackle it is by thinking from outside the box, not from within. When you tackle these types of problems from within the box, you always end up choosing a side. And sides bring division.

My main question for the series is "Why is it named Drama Queen?"
The author is playing 4D chess and perhaps had an idea how there work would be received?
Maybe it's about how the other humans see the abuse she goes through, like the other people just treat the two leads like drama queen when they talk about the problems with the aliens (it sounds like a common thing the friends of an abuser would say)
Or it could be after eating the alien she goes crazy and starts killing/eating them all cuz of the one that hit her (and so becomes a drama queen)
It's really impossible to know what direction it's going in and what the name means yet

Since the title is 'Drama Queen', I am guessing the story will focus on the girl having the most controversial questionable opinions and actions. I wasn't mad at Frieren the character for hating the demons, I was annoyed with Frieren the series because the demons quite obviously weren't just animals mimicking speech and thought. They were evil and manipulative, sure, but they clearly could think and reason despite what we kept being told. I was annoyed because we were being told one thing, which is meant to be correct, and shown another thing, not that Frieren hates demons because they're obviously evil.

Just read the first chapter and it seems interesting. Pretty sure it draws parallels to concerns for immigration in Japan in a pretty good way. If people don't like it, don't read it. It is fiction and probably a satire.

Its metaphor for colonialism not immigration. The signs are all there, a technologically advanced society aids a backwards society, the colonizers have a sense of superiority over the indigenous people, they physically abuse indigenous workers and are able to get away with fatal traffic crimes without repercussion. In the end, the protagonists aren't portrayed as noble or heroic. They are unhinged and desperate. Their actions are supposed to be taken as grotesque and amoral. I'm willing to bet that later, the aliens will be shown to eat humans as well. It is meant to be controversial, and everyone who is complaining will just draw more people to read it.
Pretty much no modern colonisation featured systemic physical abuse though nor lead to mass migration besides North America and Australia.
This feels like a series where Hannibal killed and ate aliens instead of people. There were how many seasons of that series and people not only praised that series, they said things like "I can fix him."
Let's not forget that less than a decade ago, people tried to cancel Shield Hero because it had the concept of women can do bad things and lie to get their own way, and it caused a massive controversy where the series actually gained popularity because it wasn't as bad as people said it was.
It seems people forget, media being offensive and making you uncomfortable can be a good thing.
They also forget Japan is closed off and has some of the strictest immigration regulations. No wonder they make content that reflects and even glorifies these policies
