The reason why so many younger people have such a hard time with dealing with variety in literature is because they really don't read enough. The internet has them in their own weird reality where they're surrounded by people who only agree with what they think is the ideal main character. People don't know what a anti-hero is anymore they don't know what a morally Gray man character is anymore. People don't understand that you don't even have to agree with the main character's personality in order to enjoy the story. Because many people don't explore different types of literature anymore they have become a one-dimensional individual Person in real life. People have lost the meaning of individual imagination and independent thought. Many would rather go with the collective instead of thinking on their own and it is affecting every facet of our lives. There are too many people these days who cannot separate the fiction they're supposed to love from the reality that is.
The main reason they don’t like these stories is they need to “see themselves” in the characters, these are the people who are always talking about “inclusion”, and they think that if a mangaka is writing a main character that they fully agree with the mindset of the MC. These people are only used to American TV, so they come into manga & stories they’ve never experienced and they just have meltdowns. And then the big one you mentioned, they simply can’t separate fiction from reality, they think if you like something in fiction then you like it in reality, it’s why they hate loIi characters so much.
@InfamyOrDeath-__- I agree with everything you said. However, I believe there's a divide when it comes to the American TV issue.. I. Believe that this is a problem for the younger generation on the whole.. If the younger generation actually read more books, they would encounter characters who are not morally upright. There are many characters in literary works that are Gray morally or that they are the anti-hero. This is why this issue is so disheartening and sad. The use of technology has really stunted the growth of individual. Thinking. Rudious from jobless reincarnation is the best Example for this argument. These people don't understand that you don't have to agree with the main character. You don't have to like the main character's ideals to follow the story. Also, what's so messed up about this is they will like characters like Shiguraki. Or Dobi from my hero Academia, who are murdering psychopaths but can't get behind Endeavor who is trying to atone for the wrong that he's done.
@ Oh yes Rudy is a great example, the sheer amount of hate that he gets is mind blowing, and as you said they have absolutely no problem with actual villains, they actually prefer Dobi to Rudy, and when you actually read the story Rudy is actually one of the most moral people in the new world, he goes out of his way not to kill people & we got a whole section where he talks about not wanting to kill anyone, most people in the world have no issue with it. Then we have people like the guards of the Blessed Child who will just kill people they think look suspicious. Rudy also goes out of his way to help every new person he meets, but because he gets a bit handsy & thinks (only thinks about things, doesn’t do them) about lewd stuff he’s automatically the worst character ever created, there’s so many people that utterly despise his character, it’s so odd to me because I see all Rudy’s flaws in the new world to be very mild, and since I’ve finished the story I actually think he’s a really great character. These people seem to have no problem with truly evil characters when it comes to murder & other things, but will truly despise heroes who have mild to mid flaws, but it’s especially bad when it’s a flaw like in this story, where someone doesn’t like one group, even if that group is truly evil, they said the same thing with Frieren and how she treats demons. I think this is all because these people have very twisted morals, that’s the only thing I can think of, because I find all these things they say to be very bizarre.
@InfamyOrDeath-__- What's so crazy is those people don't understand you are not supposed to like the way Rudy thinks when he first is introduced. We are supposed to be mature enough to understand That he is going to have to deal with the demons from his previous life. People call rudius a pedophile because he's likes to the women and girls around him. They say this because he has his memories from his old life. There are many other shows where a person gets reincarnated and has their memories or they get transported into another world and they have their memories If that is the case then those people would have to be called them same. It's the hypocrisy for me. The only reason why they don't label them that way is because they deem those characters morally upright.
@monroque It really sucks when these so-called "morally upright" people are flat-out demanding the STASI come back to life and regulate anime/manga and all forms of media.
I just finished the first chapter and I like it. I can understand why people say the protagonists are racist but evil/anti hero protagonists are cool and when done well they are simultaneously interesting and fun.
It's too early to tell, but I don't think that's the case. Aliens design is clearly meant to be dehumanising and all of the protagonists grievances are totally valid. I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a plot twist in the futute chapters, that Aliens were the ones who sent the asteroid only to destroy it and manipulate humans into submissive gratitude.
Honestly, after reading the first chapter. I think some people may have missed the keypoints even though it's being said directly: 1. People seem to "worship" the alien too much. The interview at the TV felt wrong cause it didn't feel natural. 2. The male character commented that the meteor that was destroyed by the alien might not actually exists. At first, I thought it'll be like Gintama where Alien blatantly invaded earth. Tho, while the Alien did invade the earth, they did it through soft power (Propaganda and such). The key point being "the meteor might be fake" and the interviewed saying "And thank you for saving us from the meteor" even tho it's 8 years already might point to it being a conspiracy centered plot point. The alien boyfriend pointed at the screen where an alien is an MVP also means that the aliens already penetrating their entertaintment. This is a means to skew people perspective, like what is beauty and such. Now, I'm an Indonesian so I'm only limited to what I had experienced here. So, in my opinion, what this manga conveys is about foreign factory and culture. I had much more insane idea, but I'll just put a normal one. Foreign factory might save the economy, but it also could demolish smaller local ones. Like, crazy cheap clothing from China outcompeted our local clothing company and such. For foreign culture, it's like K-pop and K-drama penetrating our entertaintment, then establishing a beauty standard. For example, some people prefer pristine brighter white skin cause it's what always shown in TV and such. Tho, I think my comparison is weak to what actually this manga reflects. Focus on "Meteor being fake" and "Worshipping the alien because they saved humanity from the meteor". What I would say might start a war or even deleted lmao.
@Un-Required Now that you said it, I honestly just realized how dumb I am by not noticing it's more about colonialism. And if I think more about it, I just explained a soft-kind colonialism too. I was preoccupied by stupid stuffs my moron countrymen doing as a labour worker in Japan. Thanks for telling me.
@Un-Required not really, yk, japan is a colonizer, not a colonised country. I would recommend you to search for the Japanese occupation of China and in Korea so you can understand it better. Japan also had a theory pretty similar to the N4z1 aryan race theory. There are plenty of references to these japanese supremacists in japanese media, a Tokusatsu even has one of them as a villain. I don’t get why people refuse to understand there’s racism in Japan and yes, even mangakas can be racists. Also, not saying every Japanese or Japanese media is racist, we only know about unit 731 because of japanese historians that wanted the world to know the truth, but this seems to be the case with this manga.
Of course it won’t be canceled, cause its main target audience are Japan readers. Only time it’ll get cancelled is if it doesn’t sell well in Japan. Only thing the Western haters accomplished is to get a lot more eyes on the series, and ironically helped it get popular. 😂
There was a literal tv show with the SAME PLOT called "V", look it up. It only got one season but it's the same freakin' plot. Good. I like it when stories aren’t afraid of being dark and morbid and show how messed up the world and some people can truly be. I like it when stories aren’t afraid of offending/disturbing others and I like it when stories don’t take the cowardly approach of “playing it safe” to avoid potentially offending others. We have plenty of hero protagonists so let us have some villain protagonists as well. Let some characters be bad people. People will enjoy those characters so as long as they are well-written and interesting. Just because we like villains doesn’t automatically mean that we endorse their actions, behaviors, or personal beliefs in real life.
Technically people did try to cancel Overlord in the part of the anime where the treasure hunters raided their tomb and people were shocked Ainz and co slaughtered them, including the good guys.
For real, americans readers or watchers always ruin anime/manga just bc they think they viewpoint is the most rightful one and should be apply to all media
You should read: The Return of the Crazy Demon. It is a manhwa where the main character is a villain.... a crazy one... it should get you in the first chapter but overall the art will only get better and better + the guy is literally crazy... got no idea how he will act...
You're right , the last time we got a villainous / sociopath shounen mc from the first chapter was death note . Although this new manga still follows the popular loser mc tropes but in a fck up way .
13:50 to be fair, doesn't seem to be listed here and I can't particularly find it, it does say on one of the first few pages of Drama Queen on a cover spread "new series from the author of the critically acclaimed oneshot: Iki Suru Koto Sura Yurusanai" whatever that is translated to if anyone can clarify what this oneshot of his is.
"Yuji Itadori is morally grey." I don't think we read the same manga. Itadori actively tries to save humans. His only morally grey actions are his resolutions to kill all curse (users) to help humanity. It's more accurate to say he is not morally incorruptible. Naruto wouldn't have been shaken/uprooted like Itadori, for example. He willingly embraced being a monster because it's what he deserved. You may be thinking of Chihiro when you said that. Chihiro actually IS morally grey, being a deranged psychopath obsessed with his personal vendetta. He's only kept in-check by his father's memory which urges him to help the weak and disposed.
To all the people who saw this manga, saw the aliens being rude, disrespectful to the humans, and again being literal ALIENS from outer space... And immediately thought "IMMIGRANTS!!" What the hell is wrong with you???
@plopmomentum7935 nah it was the immigrants apparently. Go look at the manga plus comment section lots of comments relating the manga to anti-immigration rhetoric. But in actuality it should be anti-colonialism
I mean considering its the same ideology that made people think orcs in world of warcraft were black people **cough** extra credits **cough** not the strangest thing ive heard.
I've been planning on reading this. Seems interesting I've seen some funny panels on discord and a lot of controversy on Twitter; The controversy to my understanding is about what the aliens in the manga symbolize assuming it symbolizes anything at all. The three camps are: Immigrants Colonizers Nothing they are just aliens (or mix both of both immigrants and colonizers?).
I just finished the first chapter; It's impossible to give a deep analysis that isn't a reach with just one chapter to work with. However I'll give my interpretation anyway. When it comes to the colonial vs immigrants question; I have to side with the mix of both camp. The closest real life analogy I can think of is Muslims in the U.K how they are taking over and influencing the government as well as the "two tier policing" going on over there. They are immigrants but they are subverting society. Another way of looking at is America during post world war 2 Japanese reconstruction or how Jews were viewed in moustache man's Germany.
Good, let those outside Japan mald. Regardless of whether I agree or disagree or even don't care about this manga. The West and parts of the East need to stop messing with Japanese artists. Mind to add that should be for every artist globally. So, credit providers and governments need to stop censorship in general outside stuff actually directed to children. I'm typing this while five bottles of sake down, so apologies for any grammar issues 😅.
A 'Morally Gray Hero' is one of big spices of "Dark Gathering" - all the main cast has something VERY messed up about them, even though they are more or less still following a good cause.
what the western audience doesn't understand is sometimes we need media that challenges our comfort zones, if we're always watching and reading squeaky clean content then we're gonna have a much harder time dealing with real world problems
People forgetting that people in japan are the target audience of manga publishing studios, and sales there determine whether a manga will get cancelled or not
MAL is lacking in information cause Drama Queen's mangaka wrote an award winning one shot before, and multiple other one shots in general. Ie, a similar situation to Kagurabachi's author- with someone who hasn't been an assistant and only wrote one shots before releasing what seems to be a banger
I looked up Kuraku Ichikawa and found that they made a oneshot titled Iki Suru Koto Sura Yurusanai (according to MAL too so I'm not sure why it hadn't showed up on your page)
While it *is* impossible to gauge the author's intent based on a single chapter, I don't think it's intellectually honest to pretend that it's not an allegory for real life immigration. The lines are sometimes ripped right from the US immigration debate. It's so on the nose that I'm honestly expecting there to be some sort of subversion later on. I'm curious to see where it goes.
Just finished the first chapter, and yeah chibi is being a bit dishonest about the implications. That said, i still think the story has a right to exist and the author needs time to let it florish. Until then, i do find it rather intresting for a new series.
Never read Drama Queen. It being in the top 5 popular manga, I can understand it being below One Piece due to One Piece’s popularity, but I can’t believe it’s actually under Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. If Drama Queen’s actually in the top 5 most popular manga, then it must be good.
I wished cosmos got this kind of treatment, it deserves more recognition. I know you usaully do news, but could you give the new manga "Cosmos" a spotlight in a future vid just giving your opinion after a few chapters to let people know about it!
I care less about the protags and am genuinely more interested in the conspiracy behind the aliens. So far we have seen a bunch of Aliens being jerks, It would be genuinely interesting if the aliens were not nefarious and in fact just acted like normal people. It would simply be too easy if all the aliens were assholes and were actively nefarious. I need to see this Manga cook more. Its got some interesting stuff but I feel like it could blow up its own strengths pretty easily with a few missteps.
Goes to show that mangakas need to be more bold with their story and truly do it to how they really want it. People shouldn't harass them to the point of being scared of conveying the right story they want to tell
10:39 I read the Overlord manga, not the novel (we’re way behind even the anime) but yes Ainz & his whole group are some of the most evil MC I’ve ever seen, actually I think they are the most evil we have.
Speaking about the success story of Drama Queen, I'm still bewildered that a simple fantasy genre-subversion idea of "Adventurer's Guild Recovery Service" doesn't exist yet as main focus of a story. It's always only mentioned as a side-note in works like Made in Abyss, Goblin Slayer or Dungeon Meshi, as in "someone else is going to retrieve the bodies of fallen adventurers". In a realistic dark fantasy setting adjacent to Berserk such an assigned profession could easily be unapologetic seinen horror material.
I think people want well written characters more than dark characters specifically. No one likes a cliche edgy murder boy more than a cliche hero saviour girl. We want to relate and feel something when reading, so if every mc is just a carbon copy of a "hero" spouting "friendship saves all!" then we get tired of it real fast.
That's what people complaining about it want. They want something safe and with rainbows and kittens. I hope these people don't ever come across Berserk or Death Note.
@michaelhall736 nah, I don't buy that. Unless they are white christian moms who fear their kids turning into the devil. Either way I wasn't talking about the people complaining, I was talking about what the general reader wants in a story. And just going 'they want bad characters' is too simple and boring.
12:17 I think it’s gonna be like kagurabachi where it gets really popular but it’s probably gonna fall off after everyone stops caring , if the series is good we might see it stay there or remain in the top 50.
For Jump, the rating count of the first chapter doesn't matter, it's always high. Only since chapter 2 you can see which manga are popular or not. In the case of Drama Queen, you have some unique points to take into account. The rankings in MangaPlus are counted by how many readers the chapter had, instead of the typical voting card for the 3 manga you liked in this issue of Jump. When you also take into account that it's the first chapter of a new series; it's controversial and people want to know why, what may work for short-term, but not for long; and it's free to read, but you can't rate it; this makes the raw numbers may be high, but it says nothing about it's popularity or future, except the numbers stay high for the next 10 weeks.
It's interesting. But it's just the first chapter. So far, all I'm reading is One Piece, Syd Craft, and if my attention remains, this one too. I should catch up in Dandadan and CSM. All it takes for me to get into something is that it isn't boring, to me at least. I've the mind that either the aliens manufactured the crisis OR the meteor was real, but the aliens lack compassion. Compassion. That's the key word.
Honestly, wasn’t thinking about reading this until the first volume came out in English, but I decided to read the first chapter because it sounded interesting and I wanted to do my part to keep it away from getting canceled. So thank you for talking about it.
All I've gotta say is this is my takeaway. I don't see what people mean by the racism stuff. Honestly I saw more ties to corporate Japan and things of that nature than I did towards any specific race or group. I mean the way the aliens act and treat people is a lot like how people describe the black company conditions and treatments. Maybe that's just me and my friend group but that's how we interpret it.
Makes me think about the fact that Light from Death Note, being the MC and he is straight up an evil genocidal maniac, yet is very popular and a standard must watch series... but Drama Queen is a problem LMAO
The weird twitter people saying oh it’s about these irl issues and means the author hates others like tf It’s about aliens why tf you saying it’s about racism irl like real people not alien racism those don’t exist
The fact it's under Dandadan in popularity with only 1 chapter is astonishing.

There are many other shows where a person gets reincarnated and has their memories or they get transported into another world and they have their memories
If that is the case then those people would have to be called them same.
The real twist of this series is that these aren’t the bad guys. They are actually the good guys.
I thought they were going to be Griffith level
It's too early to tell, but I don't think that's the case.
Aliens design is clearly meant to be dehumanising and all of the protagonists grievances are totally valid. I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a plot twist in the futute chapters, that Aliens were the ones who sent the asteroid only to destroy it and manipulate humans into submissive gratitude.
@@Piromysl359Exactly. Hopefully this is popular enough to continue.
There's no telling the mc's are just as suspicious as the aliens however they do have understandable motives
They're hungry
Honestly, after reading the first chapter. I think some people may have missed the keypoints even though it's being said directly:
It rhymes with "chew" and "monocaused"
@@yelloweyes8345 You mean Jew? the one that currently attacking Palestine?

It’s thanks to the controversy I found out about it
Peak Queen
Of course it won’t be canceled, cause its main target audience are Japan readers. Only time it’ll get cancelled is if it doesn’t sell well in Japan.
Only thing the Western haters accomplished is to get a lot more eyes on the series, and ironically helped it get popular. 😂

@@handleloverkira I'm not saying it should be cancelled for this controversy, I'm saying it looks dumb for other reasons.
Just because we like villains doesn’t automatically mean that we endorse their actions, behaviors, or personal beliefs in real life.
i think it's bold to assume what the point of this manga is after just 1 chapter
Technically people did try to cancel Overlord in the part of the anime where the treasure hunters raided their tomb and people were shocked Ainz and co slaughtered them, including the good guys.
Another controversy created by readers from 🇺🇲 who think they are the standard and center of the world
For real, americans readers or watchers always ruin anime/manga just bc they think they viewpoint is the most rightful one and should be apply to all media
Mha is also ruin bc of the fandom (mostly westerners) keep shipping based on their viewpoint

It is the same with Mushoku Tensei. People call you a pdf if you like the story. And now now youre being called a racist if you like Drama Queen.
Anything that upsets tourists is great.
Or perhaps they thought that after the main character decided she wanted to kill all the aliens because of the actions of a few aliens
@plopmomentum7935 nah it was the immigrants apparently. Go look at the manga plus comment section lots of comments relating the manga to anti-immigration rhetoric. But in actuality it should be anti-colonialism
Tbf immigrants are commonly referred to as “Aliens”…so
I mean considering its the same ideology that made people think orcs in world of warcraft were black people **cough** extra credits **cough** not the strangest thing ive heard.
Gintama comes in this picture. The main character ain't really fond of aliens.
I hope this gets animated
I cant see in on shonen jump app isit cancelled? R not officially out yet ?
Just like the title of the manga, everyone on Twitter are just that
I've been planning on reading this. Seems interesting I've seen some funny panels on discord and a lot of controversy on Twitter;
The controversy to my understanding is about what the aliens in the manga symbolize assuming it symbolizes anything at all.
The three camps are:
Immigrants
Colonizers
Nothing they are just aliens (or mix both of both immigrants and colonizers?).
@@Dark_kage I think the question of whether they are immigrants or colonizers is deliberate.
@@GarethOfByzantiumMakes sense
Separating reality from fiction? What a novel concept...

Wow there are some "good art" on website
what the western audience doesn't understand is sometimes we need media that challenges our comfort zones, if we're always watching and reading squeaky clean content then we're gonna have a much harder time dealing with real world problems
I love how the people that hate this manga are all from the west

This Manga reminds me of the Current Day UK.
A manga about hunting immigrants? Bababa basado~
I'm not too familiar with this manga, I will check it out soon. I remember you doing a review of it a few days ago.
I personally subscribe to the theory that this story is actually a satire with unreliable POV characters.
That Shit was wild it felt like gintama and chainsaw man had a baby
I'm guessing the story is gonna be them murdering aliens while some other characters investigate the murders
Nah it’s probaly popular because of may people reading because of the drama
I wished cosmos got this kind of treatment, it deserves more recognition. I know you usaully do news, but could you give the new manga "Cosmos" a spotlight in a future vid just giving your opinion after a few chapters to let people know about it!
I went with this impression of their being racist element. Whole chapter was done and I still couldn't even fathom the angle they are going for.
Based besto manga!, best UK 2024 adaptation!
Indeed
Bro people are so soy like its just a story touch grass.
When you also take into account that it's the first chapter of a new series; it's controversial and people want to know why, what may work for short-term, but not for long; and it's free to read, but you can't rate it;
this makes the raw numbers may be high, but it says nothing about it's popularity or future, except the numbers stay high for the next 10 weeks.
I’d dig an anime of it in the future. As long as it’s kept true to the manga and not “adjusted” for “modern audiences”
If commies weren't so upset about it, I would have never learned of this manga. Read the chapter and it has high potential. Thanks, commies.
The bigger shocker is Boruto doing numbers 😂😂

All I've gotta say is this is my takeaway. I don't see what people mean by the racism stuff. Honestly I saw more ties to corporate Japan and things of that nature than I did towards any specific race or group. I mean the way the aliens act and treat people is a lot like how people describe the black company conditions and treatments. Maybe that's just me and my friend group but that's how we interpret it.
