The rights to Re:Zero is still owned by Tappei Nagatsuki. Most of the rights to each series are still owned by the creators and are then licensed out from the author/artist to keep things fair but the exact details of those licenses are only known by those involved.

Sony buying KADOKAWA....uh oh. Done some digging - Kadokawa has a lot of big titles - Your Name, Re;Zero, Overlord, 86, Mushoku Tensei, & Made in Abyss is just some of them. Not only that but they're the majority owner of FromSoftware with a stake of around 70% of the company which means if the takeover goes forward they'd also own Elden Ring, Octopath Traveler, Sekiro and a hell of a lot more. Reminder that this is Sony actual and not Sony Interactive Entertainment, which has its headquarters in California. SIE is Sony's video game branch, they have no involvement in anime and manga. Kadokawa will likely still be allowed to do whatever they want similar to Aniplex. Look at Aniplex, Sony owns them and their output has remained the same. It'll probably be the same case with Kadokawa where they still do what they want while Sony reaps the money. Hell, Aniplex has published their games on rival platforms like the Nintendo Switch. IIRC, Kadokawa as a publisher does not hold the actual rights to the manga and novels they publish. In Japan the rights are owned by the creators. IF Sony took over and tried to tell them what to do, they could just take their manga/novels to another publisher.

Sony acquiring crunchyroll and rigihtstuf was almost was rejected. The case was brought forth in 2020 and Sony was getting looked into about being a monopoly for the entertainment industry. Then Biden in and replaced a bunch of FCC agents and DOJ officials and allowed Sony's acquisition of Crunchyroll and Rightstuf. So yeah, Sony is trying to push this through before the new president gets into office. Because lots of lawsuits, government clean up, etc is coming. Sadly though I don't know how much the US can stop Sony from buying out a Japanese Company. Sony is the definition of evil. Why, why can't anyone just stop Sony already?

Most likely don't, and it's a long shot of a gamble using the earnings of anime and maga to recover what they lost. It's a loose-loose situation though. If it succeeds they only buy themselves time before they ruin what they bought and go back to losing money. Well, I always imagined Disney would eventually buy Sony to get the exclusive rights to Spider-man. Right now they have to share the rights, and they don't like that. With the Spider-man adjacent movies (aside from Venom) not doing well, I'm sure Sony would be bought so Disney could have a complete entertainment monopoly.
Sony is one of the worst companies in the modern landscape, and this push for cultural control they've been making is awful. I thought they were going the way of the dodo after Concord, seeing how Playstation has been their only successful subdivision in years (their cameras are popular, but the market has shrunk too much to make money), but it seems they pulled money out of nowhere. Sony is actually an Electronics manufacturer. Think along the lines of radios and TVs. From there they naturally expanded into gaming consoles which is how we got the Playstation and they broke into the Entertainment market. They bought up Crunchyroll and Funimation mostly because they wanted to join in the streaming wars. They got in too late to get their hands on western libraries but saw that western media was losing profit value and that the real value was anime. Being a company of Japanese origin, they had an easier time breaking into that and fortifying their postion. The kick to the nuts is that they moved the Sony HQ to califonia which put it in the control of the Progressive Left. The business decisions they've made with that kind of control is why they're bleeding money hard and panic buying anything they think will give them a cash infusion.

People sell stock if the offer is good. Buying Kadokawa would provide Sony with a lot of game IP. For example Kadokawa is the primary owner of FromSoftware which of course put out some famous games such as Bloodborne, the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring, and Sekiro. Owning the game IP would definitely make it cheaper and more profitable to release Bloodborne 2, Elden Ring 2, and Sekiro 2 on playstation.

Franchises, companies, their rights and licences in media, all is increasingly focused in hands where they do not belong. Spike Chunsoft have also done plenty of Bandai Namco and Nintendo games like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. They're also the folks behind Danganronpa and so much stuff! While Sony is powerful company even they have limits on their power and still needs to follow the laws and rule of other. Heck Sony could lose the ownership to Kadowaka if Sony oversteps their boundaries and crosses lines. Kadokawa can and could definitely split up from Sony if they push thing too far and overstepping authority it's like they always say bigger isn't bigger. I really don't think the end of anime, manga and light novels is going to happen at all and that everyone is over panicking about this Anime, Manga and Light Novels will never die. Also Sony would have to deal with Japan's AntiMonoply Act if it buys Kadowaka it deals with such business practices like raising prices and monopolizing anime so even if that were to happened Sony would be in big trouble with Japan's AntiMonoply Act and have a major scandal on it.

Not only that but they're the majority owner of FromSoftware with a stake of around 70% of the company which means if the takeover goes forward they'd also own Elden Ring, Octopath Traveler, Sekiro and a hell of a lot more. This isn't just detrimental to the anime space but also for gaming as well. This would be very very bad.

IIRC, Kadokawa as a publisher does not hold the actual rights to the manga and novels they publish. In Japan the rights are owned by the creators. IF Sony took over and tried to tell them what to do, they could just take their manga/novels to another publisher.

So yeah, Sony is trying to push this through before the new president gets into office. Because lots of lawsuits, government clean up, etc is coming. Sony is actually an Electronics manufacturer. Think along the lines of radios and TVs.
From there they naturally expanded into gaming consoles which is how we got the Playstation and they broke into the Entertainment market.
They bought up Crunchyroll and Funimation mostly because they wanted to join in the streaming wars. They got in too late to get their hands on western libraries but saw that western media was losing profit value and that the real value was anime.
Being a company of Japanese origin, they had an easier time breaking into that and fortifying their postion.
The kick to the nuts is that they moved the Sony HQ to califonia which put it in the control of the Progressive Left. The business decisions they've made with that kind of control is why they're bleeding money hard and panic buying anything they think will give them a cash infusion.

People sell stock if the offer is good. Buying Kadokawa would provide Sony with a lot of game IP. For example Kadokawa is the primary owner of FromSoftware which of course put out some famous games such as Bloodborne, the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring, and Sekiro. Owning the game IP would definitely make it cheaper and more profitable to release Bloodborne 2, Elden Ring 2, and Sekiro 2 on playstation.

Sony seems to be obsessed with Nintendo. Remember as soon as when Nintendo updated sales milestone of massively successful Switch, Jim Ryan suddenly upped PS2 sales outta nowhere. Bayonetta saved by Nintendo and Sony bought the rights to Stellar Blade to have like their own and this Palworld partnership just cause Nintendo owns part of Pokemon, which has been a worldwide phenomenon for decades. Sony has been getting completely destroyed in Asian market and they are trying to buy their way back in, which is how I see things :-)

Well that's false, Sony owns more than Play Station you know. The only headquarters moved to California was Sony Interactive, not the actually Sony HQ in Japan that controls everything else from the telecoms, semiconductors, magazine publishing, anime production under Sony, robotics, financial services, banking, movie and TV show production and computer technology. All of that stuff is still in Japan and Sony is still run out of Japan, Sony of America just sucks as shown by the fact that Team Asobi under Sony of Japan made Astro Bot, an actually good game (one of the best platformers in recent years) that made massive profits for Sony, versus Sony of America/Sony Interactive which made.....Concord.

After you've archived your top 100 anime now you can focus on other aspects of your life going to the gym for example learning a new language finally traveling doing those travel plans did all the anime that you've archived is just there waiting for you good morning in a watch commercial or supporting applications that won't even support comment sections anymore

Seriously, the undesirable effects of globalisation and westernisation of Japanese animation, manga and light novel is already taking on questionable outgrowths.
Obviously because the people who get more and more control and decide these things, have close to zero knowledge about why this culture is popular in Japan
or became popular in the west in the first place.
If SONY actually acquires Kadokawa, there is no end in sight what damage they will do. Its literally no different from what is happening in the gaming industry or movie Industry.
Disney and their disastrous "gutting" of various franchises is a prime example here. Just as there are others already in the gaming and animation/manga/LN markets.
Franchises, companies, their rights and licences in media, all is increasingly focused in hands where they do not belong.
Massive multilateral companies on that level are continuously damaging literally every level of cultural entertainment and art based entertainment.
Be it written, drawn, in TV, movies or games-media - everything. Simply because of their primarily revenue-driven approach opposed to a cultural enrichment approach first.
*Art (and their rights and licences), belong into the hands of artists. NOT gigantic global companies whose only goal is the myth of unending financial growth.*

Spike Chunsoft have also done plenty of Bandai Namco and Nintendo games like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. They're also the folks behind Danganronpa and so much stuff! Sony has (allegedly) lost so much money due to Concord's failure and I'm concerned that they will meddle with all these studios to make profit fast. I'm so tired of the consolidation in the game industry!

Does not Japan have anti-monopolistic laws? And, if so, should not these laws kick in to protect the consumer and other smaller entertainment businesses from Sony's apparent pruditorial practices? Chibi Reviews I do believe there's a silver in how this monopoly problem can prevented from getting worse as Japan could make laws imposing limits on monopolies such as that one and migrating their control on their hold and Kadokawa could put terms and conditions for the limits on what they could do. While Sony is powerful company even they have limits on their power and still needs to follow the laws and rule of other. Heck Sony could lose the ownership to Kadowaka if Sony oversteps their boundaries and crosses lines. Kadokawa can and could definitely split up from Sony if they push thing too far and overstepping authority it's like they always say bigger isn't bigger. I really don't think the end of anime, manga and light novels is going to happen at all and that everyone is over panicking about this Anime, Manga and Light Novels will never die.
Also Sony would have to deal with Japan's AntiMonoply Act if it buys Kadowaka it deals with such business practices like raising prices and monopolizing anime so even if that were to happened Sony would be in big trouble with Japan's AntiMonoply Act and have a major scandal on it.
