MX5 NB REAR ARCH AND SILL REPAIR : pt 1

  • The most common issue for the mx5's (in most countries) is rust.
So in this video I'm achieving the first steps in this huge job and that is by grinding drilling and hammering the old rear arch and sill out of the cars chassis.
Most of the time this rust is caused by the drain holes being blocked or just neglect.
This is by no means a small task but could be cost effective in done at home yourself.
If you find your sills are fine after removing the rear arch you can of coarse just replace the rear arch without replacing the sill.

I enjoy watching these videos. There aren't that many people on YT making NB content. As someone working on an NB as well, keep up the awesome work.

Thank you, the NB definitely needs more overall RUclips content

Good stuff. You may find a small belt sander deals with spot welds better on removal. You also may not find that works for you but it works great for me.

Excellent video. Exactly what I need to do to mine, apart from the fact I need an entire rear panel replacement, so many spot welds to find.

Thank you. Sounds like you've got your work cut out. Just when you think you have the last spot weld you find another one lurking under some more rust

I'm currently doing the same but because of damage from an accident. So i have to replace the taillight part which holds it in and right above the wheelwell. Any advice ?

Great little channel, just found it as bought myself a couple of nb mx5's, one staying naturally aspirated for the minute and the other already turbo'd. I will be doing quite a few similar jobs to yourself as been drifting a 200sx s14 for the past 8/9 years and do all my own works. I will probably be making my own extended arms etc, hoping to film it all similar to yourself but with a more 'try it first', then upgrade bits as and when approach. Where abouts are you located? Might end up at a drift day together when you get your car done, I've subbed so look forward to more progress :)

      thank you for tuning in,
this a great approach to have and one I planned on doing myself but lockdown changed those plans.
east of England, yourself? I'm sure we can meet at a drift event after my car is all done 😎

@@Project380 No problem, well you seem to have a decent plan with yours so should be decent when its done! I'm down in South Devon so miles from most tracks but we do have a few local practice days available. I will keep an eye on the channel and see what we can sort out. Cheers

ill be honest from years of drift abuse mine where mostly broken but what I could work out from what is left, there are screws in either arch, a few plastic pop clips underneath and the rest is trim taped on. I hope this helps a little
