    As a diy guy who is trying to restore my Ford Ranger. I have finally got all the rust cut out, the sheet metal formed to fit all the panels and now just starting on the welding....
    You made this look easy. You made it look as easy as it was in my head before i started my project. Lol
    I've been slaving away at forming curves and shapes and lips for weeks.
    Now for the dreaded welding without blowing holes all through the panels...
    I'm pretty sure i can get it looking good but not sure with how long it has taken if i would have done it again.
    If I appreciated your work before... I appreciate it to the maximum now.

    Looking in the machine room where the metal processing kit is I can identify most of it . Some of the kit is new to me as I am an amateur mechanic rather than a panel beater / coach builder. Therefore starting at the hydraulic press and going anti clockwise. Some sort of blue roller with pairs of rollers for different curves. There is a green piece of metal you use as a drilling support, a coil spring compressor in the corner, a frame with a Frost shrinker / stretcher. An unidentified large blue machine at the window, a metal folder, a metal shearer and finally a planishing hammer when would you use that tool.

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 года назад

      Hi Eddie you are correct in identifying most of the equipment. The blue one near the door is a bead roller the biggest blue one in the window is the English wheel and the plenishing hammer is used to stretch and manipulate metal but they are specialist tools and not available to the a mature without investing so we tend not to use them in our restorations :)

    Hi Guys, I'm sure this must have been asked before but had not found it yet. Most of the welds younm do are tiny spotwelds. I think i understand now why just not to transfer too much heat in the material. But when you then grind and sand thise spotwelds flat doesnt that seriously decrease the overall strength of the welds? And how do you (if possible at all) prevent water to get in those welded areas after the repair? But besides that yet again great stuff and amazing video work. Keep it up and i loved the live Xmas Q&A session you guys did the other day. Make sure to enjoy some time off during the holls and best wishes for 2024! Greetz, Frank

  • @teekay_1

    On the inner fender on the upper right hand side, there was still some surface rust. Would it have made sense to at least sand that off and then reprime?

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 года назад

      It had been ground down but this we pitted rust that was impossible to grind off without making the metal thin so this is where you see is neutralise it’s with the clear spray then protect it with weld through primer.
      Before the car goes back it will also be cavity waxoiled :)

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration

    @pauliusguzas8063 2 года назад +1

    Nice job! Though shouldn't you leave drain holes between two inner sill plates, inside the pinch weld? Because The reason these rust are that those drain holes clog in the pinch weld

    • @yorkshirecarrestoration
      @yorkshirecarrestoration  2 года назад +3

      Hi Paulius , yes you are correct :) we are limited on time in our videos so cant show everything.
      We do make our own drain holes after the process but this would take a lot of explaining about the pros and cons of doing this , so we try to limit ourselves to replacing the metal and just repairing the rust on these videos :)
      we will eventually have other videos explaining other modifications and improvements people can do on an MX5 as the channel grows , but for now we are going to stick to rust repairs :)

    Great videos as always,I see you’ve spot welded the outer sill to the inner……I did this not long back for someone I know and it went in for it’s mot…..the tester said the sill needed to be seam welded(we’re the lower inner and outer sill meet)not spot welded…..the van still got a pass I just wounded it you’d come across this?Thanks👍😉

      Oh right,he passed it anyway how’s best to go about it do you think?would you just cut the outer sill abit shorter,and then stitch weld along the edge?…..that’s the only way I can think of doing it lolol👍😉

    • @CampervanAdventures
      @CampervanAdventures 2 года назад

      I put tiger seal over the lip and the spot welds and I had a spot weld every inch or so…..when the van came to me the inner and outer sills(both sides)were rotten almost the full length of the vehicle,I’ve used 1.5mm on the inner sill and a replacement sill for the outer 1mm or 1.2 what ever they are…..you could hit the inner sill with a 4 pound lump hammer and it wouldn’t touch it 😂
