Nice, you appeared in my YT recommendations today. Interesting to watch you working. I am sure I can use some of your procedures to help with my own sheet metal repairs on my cars. Keep on cracking!
I'm a retired tin basher and done my share of work on cars , I'm impressed with the assortment of gear and how bloody clean that shop is lol , greetings from Manchester
Absolutely fantastic video for me as an ex MGB Owner. I rebuilt my own engine once, then bought an Ivor Searl replacement due to piston ring failure. I may have my original engine rebuilt by Grace.😅
I was removing surface rust from suspension arms and brackets and then sprayed the metal with protective paint. 3 very long days under the car. To do a car like this needs a lot of skills, determination and steel patience . I don't think i could ever do that.
Hi guys, new to the channel and just watching the mx5 video. The panel work is absolutely perfect and mesmerising to watch. Fab content and looking forward to watching your library 👍👍
Wow, I sure wish I could have given my old Miata to this guy. I had a 2000, bought mint in 2004. Loved it for a long time. Won a bunch of autocrosses. But I was young and dumb and didn't know about Fluid Film and it was my only car, year round. Rust took it from me. Watching this work is incredible. At my shop, we have a welder come in sometimes to do emergency rust "repairs." Guy spends an hour or two, loosely tacks some paper thin sheet metal over a gaping hole in the chassis and everyone acts like it's fixed. They look at me cross eyed the next time the vehicle comes in and I tell them I can't put it up on a normal lift because there's still no structure under the patch...
Great to watch and nice to learn some new tips, thanks👍 If Robocop ever needed facial reconstruction and eye socket repair, I'm sure he'd give you a call! 🤖
Nice - I have a paint cup with some thinners in it - I use a paintbrush to flow out the sealant over the welds - dip the brush in the thinner, use that to smooth the sealant after you gun it on - leaves it looking tres posh. Underseal over that - ends up real smooth. :-)
My only concern is you didn't treat the inside of the panel before you welded it. I use zinc rich primer but leave 5 mm around the weld area. Then I drown the whole thing in cavity wax.
did you happen to go to a college or take courses for auto body repair? or is it all just over time and year’s experience? you make it look easy from the beginning to end, i would like to do this kind of work on older cars that need restoration, love the idea of bringing nostalgia, a time I didn’t live in back.
Amazing as always.brilliant to watch.im getting much better thanks to watching you..I'm def not afraid to make my own panels now. Nowhere near your quality but getting there I think
What are your thoughts on using a donor car and cutting out an entire section for the drivers side rocker and welding it in? Vs cutting peice by peice? Is there a structure gain or loss to either method what do you recommend and why?
Almost all the time the patch panels aren't big enough and/or they aren't available to everyone or at all, like the rear sill bulkhead panel :) so we try to show people how to fabricate things themselves, this channel isn't just about repairing cars its about showing people how to fabricate themselves, nobody would learn anything sept a bit of welding if we did that :)
@@yorkshirecarrestoration That's interesting. I know for a lot of classic cars, you can buy entire inner and outer sills for restoration. Anyway, appreciate the reply, nicely done.
II love watching skilled people do their stuff. I wonder why the car was in such bad state in certain areas in the first place.? Was the car not properly rust protected in the construction ??
I appreciate the craftmanship, on the radiator support area just wondering how cost efftive the labor to crate the patches is, I show alot of these parts to be in the 30 to 130 USD range, not sure how much you charge to fabricate but it may be cheaper to just section in the OEM parts at the factory seams, not like this is a super rare car the parts are no longer available .
We arent on youtube to advertise our services, we are on youtube to show people how they can make smaller localised patch panels themselves at a fraction of the cost of having to purchase a whole panel.
As has been said a lot of times is this series the owner didn't have the budget to repair everything so this was left until another time. This was just budget mot repairs.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration Thanks I appreciate the reply! been getting into some rust repairs myself over the last few years and this tool looks awesome.
Love this. Simple materials. Simple tools. Extraordinary results.
Thank You Jim its much appreciated :)
Simple but expensive tools lol
simple tools? I see
Amazing workmanship and a lost art in the throw away society. Plus made in Yorkshire. Hats off
thank you David and yes we fully agree :)
Ey up! Keep up the good work pal

Thank you very much! We try to show different methods of fabrication for the panels. Thanks for the support!

Fixing the headlight bracket/surround was really impressive imo. I may take my MX5 here when I decide to do the sills etc.
Thank you! We do sills and arches daily. Get us on indaltagram if you do decide to. @Yorkshire_car_restoration
I really like your videos, there is no BS or waffle, just straight forward Yorkshire how to do it. Much appreciated.

Hi Andrew :) thank you for the support, we will continue to make the videos so you can both continue to enjoy them 😁👍
This is a great video! I started restauring an old Fiat 128SE for myself as a hobby and you showed me some great skills and ideas.

It is labour of love :)
The work going into this Myata. It makes zero economic sense, which proves this is a labour of love.
It is indeed. The owner has an attachment to the car so wanted it getting back on thr Road.
I don't normally say dude and I don't normally say Superstar, but dude you are a superstar.
Haha thank you :)
Great work on that rusty thing! I can almost smell cutting disc, steel and rust watching it!
Haha I definitely could :)
Amazing skills to develop the pattern for the headlight surround...can't wait for the next installment...
Hi Richard, thank you there are already a few videos after that uploaded and ready to view :)

We have seen repairs like that a lot, that's why we always put enough strength back so the car can easily be jacked up on the repair sections again :)
All the best

Couple questions. What brand of rust neutralizer is that?
And what thickness of metal did you use?
What’s that black cream before spraying waxoyl ? And where can i find that type of ruler ? Thanks in advance
