For years I've been hearing people say "they're not gonna be restoring Honda Civics in 20 years".... glad to see they were wrong. These cars are important pieces of automotive history and the fact there are people going to these lengths to bring them back makes me happy as hell.
had civic three doors, coupes, even an aero deck vti, before i then got my accord typ r. but my dearest memories i have is with the eg 6. of course beeing 20 having your girlfriend beside you listening to guns and roses in your own car is a hard to beat , good old days memory
Best way to get rid of body deadening material is to use dry ice. Put it on the area for about 15 minutes, remove the dry ice then give it a tap with a hammer. The material will break away in pieces. Nice n easy!.
Man,I subbed right away. I have a red 92 Si hatch with a very tired 462 thousand km engine that’s been sitting for 3 years now. It was only running on 3 cylinders for the last 6 thousand kms I drove it because the compression is so low in one pot that I just parked it and bought a 14 Civic coupe to replace it. I ran the piss out of that little hatch here in British Columbia in temps down to -42 with no block heater or anything and it only let me down once when the original fuel pump went out at 450 thousand kms. I would love to do what you’re doing for the rust because it was such a great car,I can’t get rid of it. 🚗
really ashame they all rust out around the rear arches, i am dreading getting down to bare metal and uncovering the damage on my si after watching this but you killed this one man, praying i can find a clean donor car somewhere to chop those pieces from
First I want to say Merry Christmas, I truly enjoy this video and can’t wait to see more of this project. I have a RHD EG6 sitting for year and now you get me going to start restoring it. Thanks again my man.
That is fantastic work i look forward to seeing it finished, I wish i had the equipment to do this, im currently restoring a Civic MB6. sadly its outside so weather plays apart in when i can do work on it.
Having done similar level builds in the past I respect the work. It takes forever to what your doing. Thanks for sharing. Any plans for the finished build?
Undersealant and sound deadening is much easier to remove with dry ice. It just flakes off after it gets cold enough :) With the car on the spit, you could just pile the stuff on it and let it sit for an hour; might save you some elbow pain from holding the heat gun and scraping :D
@@mullac720 keep the great work up brother, it’s a hobby, keeps you motivated, you stay out of trouble minding yourself too ;) Ireland had the best jdm cars probably still do, fazz from UK
Wow, what a awesome work. Can I ask what is the minimum temperature did you spray inside? I have read on Google it say the ideal temperature is between 50f to 60f as I wasn't sure so that's why I ask.
Perhaps worth mentioning the roof seam-sealer had cracked & allowed water in on my '95. Also rust at rear of roof ahead of hinges due to condensation from inside & inadequate paint dip when built, same as my '88 Integra. Glad there was so little rust upon mine but certainly could have used L-Rear arch repair panel to rectify excessive filler & poor repairs if they'd been more affordable here. Did Honda still leave off the bumper reinforcement beams to cut weight there, as my ED Civic & JDM '95 Prelude did?
Good job in the process of doing a job like this but on jackstands. What do you plan on doing to treat inside the chassis rails where you can’t reach ?
a question for the builder you went to allot of trouble to strip the body to bear metal are you considering doing structural reinforcement (like welding the factory seams) to the vehicle or just a factory restoration job?
is it not better to sand/grit blast the rusted areas, i recently used "hammerite" rust converter and it actually made the rust much worse, is the hydrate-80 stuff the same style of converter/preventer?
It was all sanded. I just used hydrate so it would soak into any of the seams just in case. It wouldn't do much if it was put straight onto untouched rust. You want to seal the convertor also like epoxy primer etc.
@@mullac720 thanks man. I want to follow a similar process with my mk2 opel Kadett 2 door. Did you learn as you went or did you get formal training? Haven't looked at your others videos yet...
Just to stop from rusting while I repair all the rust areas. Then I will sand it slightly and spray on final coat of primer rather than brush on. Then it's ready for underseal
@@mullac720 Will you be using same primer? Top work pal. Where did you get some decent quality wire wheels from, would be awesome if you could do a short video of all the kit you use to prep underside with.

There was a comment on Paint Society’s video “why would you waste time and money on that old civic?” It was a low mile EM1 Vtec.

It not sound deadening material. It’s more of a seam sealer. No way in hell will that come off with ice. This or sandblasting is the only way.
Honda's today don't even compare to these classic gems

I wouldn't have grinded out all the old factory seam sealer. You can apply right over the old seam sealer where the joint panels are spot welded.
