This song is about the loss of their drummer, very powerful one. This song is one of their anthems and the closing song of the Nightmare album, that explains its length.
The "SKULL!" growl in the beginning is The Rev, it was the last useable vocal take they had from him and they found it randomly on a tape in the studio and worked it into this.
This is about their former drummer who passed away, he was their best friend and rock in the band when they refer to “I’m loosing my only dream” is meaning their dream to be a band. Also has a lot of anger and questioning why “is it something we said/did to them” questioning if there’s something they could have done to change the outcome. M.Shadows the singer has said this song kinda goes through the stages of their grief for the loss of their drummer and friend. The last part the “tonight we all die young” is referring to a piece of them individually and as a band has died and will never be the same. Very powerful song that goes through their emotions of loosing their friend.
@@swifferwetjet1_288 yes it was the rev actually had a lot of the song kinda planned before he passed and they reworked it differently the whole nightmare album was originally going to be a concept album with a story following a character but turned into more of a tribute album for the rev
This is arguably one of Avenged sevenfold’s best songs, it’s so beautifully crafted I’m glad you guys got to react to it!! Also I’m so surprised you don’t have more subscribers, you guys have such excellent analysis and good chemistry keep it up!!
Mike Portnoy who filled in for the studio recording of this album absolutely killed it on the drums, especially this track. Very proggy feel. Such a great song.
RIP The Rev. Get's me chills every time I listen to this knowing this was made for him. Great analysis honestly, like that intro was the dream till he came in singing the first line of the song? Never thought of that before. Subscribed!
I wonder then. If the song was written for him, so the drum parts are actually written by Mike Portnoy/the band? Because most drum parts in the album were already written by The Rev before he passed, and Portnoy just recorded them Im not doubting by the way, just genuinely curious
@@indigoiozziavenged sevenfold has stated that they rewrote tons of lyrics after the Rev’s passing to focus more on him and his life and death. So from my understanding the musical ideas were already completed but the the lyrics were changed to fit the narrative of the album as we know it.
The band has stated that they made Mike Portnoy play the drums, the way the Rev wrote & played them in the demo. But at the end of the song, they let Mike add his own flair, & symbol work to the song. They also stated that the end, the Rev originally wrote as the chorus, but they said it just wasn’t working so they decided to put it at the end.
This song was originally written, not past a demo, by their first drummer before he passed away. The rest of band picked it back up and came up. They made a great song. Some lyrics are about the drummer, if I’m not mistaken.
This song is amazing its in my top 3 avenged songs for sure. They just released a new album after 7 years and it is very experimental. But they have a new song of the new album called Mattel which I think you should really check out for some new avenged.
I love how you dissect the theme of the song without even knowing that their drummer had just passed! Even knowing all of that, I never took my time to think what the song was actually about. Nice video!
They don’t have a video game (well they do play on some of the call of duty games) but they have 8 bit album version of a lot of their most popular songs
you gents are absolutely correct. there are times when m shadows screams, but he never does in this song. it is their greates triumph. there is no better avenged song than this.
I think you’d dig Exist, off their album the Stage, also the last song on the album. I always felt like it was the second part after Save Me for some reason, probably the length. But also theme, as it is a song they wrote according to an interview, that is a musical representation of the life of the universe from the Big Bang to now, vocals coming in at the dawn of life. It’s a trippy long instrumental that feels like a continuation of the thematic aspects of this song. But yeah if you get a chance check it out!

Fact: this song was about to be called : tonight we all die! Rev wanted to make a Chorus out of these words, but the band was not that keen, was not working with the instrumentation. after he passed away soon after, the band found a way to incorporate this sentence in the end, thats why you hear it being said around 8 or 9 times in the end.

From your comments I feel like you would like some songs from their two most recent albums. They have got more proggy and experimental in those albums and there's a lot of "interesting noises" and unique sounds in them. Apart from that, those albums also have very interesting lyrics that make you think without making it too hard to grasp their meaning. It's hard to pick specific songs, but, at least to start, I recommend "Paradigm" from "The Stage" (2016) and "Mattel" from "Life Is But a Dream..." (2023). "Paradigm" is not really my favorite song from "The Stage", but I think it's an underrated song and the more famous songs are already probably going to be requested at some point anyway.
Not true. The Rev composed the drum parts but the lyrics weren’t written when he passed. The song is written about The Rev not by the Rev. You must be thinking of Fiction, it’s sort of a note before death.
the rev died, and this song was spawned. the chicken or the egg? was this song a reality before he passed away, or was this song the anthem to his passing, and the trying to remember him and honor his passing? i think its the former.
The bohemian rhapsody of avenged sevenfold is probably ‘a little piece of heaven’. It's certainly not for a first-time listener moreover if they watch the music video, should build up to it by listening to the other songs first.

Yeah and they thought it was funny af and Jimmy would’ve loved it so they kept it in.

Wow, very touching meaning behind this one. Thanks for tying in the lyrics to the meaning, it paints a clear picture.
wasnt the "tonight we all die young" part just the original chorus the rev wrote while they were on tour?

Sounds intriguing! We received another suggestion for this song so we have it on the wheel and will definitely check it out!
This song is about Jimmy The Rev Sullivan, their drummer who passed away.
Hopefully you get fiction next. Its basically all wrote by the Rev and turned in the demo 3 days before he died. R.I.P. the Rev, the Knife master
I also love fun - we are young haha
Very nostalgic song for me. I misremembered the lyric lol
It landed on my favorite song of all time ayyyyyyyye
Also the abreviation for Avenged sevenfold is not As, but A7X :)
Oh good to know! Added a lot of suggestions to the wheel already but going forward will keep that in mind
You have to put Exist - Avenged Sevenfold on wheels, 15 minutes long.

Na it was the latter
Some feedback, awesome video, but you really do not need to stop every single lyric of the song, it totally ruins the music.
Nihilism vs faith cognitive dissonance
7 mins for an intro is too long
