    This song is about Avenged Sevenfold's drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who was found dead on December 28, 2009. It tells of how his passing has impacted on the band and speaks of the immense pain that the group members have experienced due to their loss.

    • @DrNighti
      @DrNighti Год назад +9

      that is only kinda true. the song was written bevore the rev died.
      jimmy even wrote part of the lyrics!

    • @zensezy468
      @zensezy468 Год назад +4

      @@DrNighti he also wrote the lyrics for "fiction" and that song is about him passing so it probably is tbf
      In some interveiws with matt he stated that when Jimmy came in with fiction he said it was the final song for the album, and it seemed like Jimmy "knew" he was going to pass away soon.

Respectfully, stop ruining others perception of the band. I'd argue the song is great even from a completely objective standpoint. Give me an arguement againt it, or you should go somewhere else.@@Kramer8

    The guitar parts were done by 3 guys - Zacky, Syn and Syns dad - papa Gates 😂
    Also ignore the butthurt comments like "how dare you rate my favorite song so low". I mean, it's one one of mine as well, yet, it's nothing ground breaking. Emotional, if you know the backstory, yes. I guess that's what's getting the fan boy panties twisted, I guess. Good, unbiased review. Cheers.

    As far as the getting old what else can you do thing, perhaps start checking out their new album. It's so vastly different and out of left field that alot of people hated it. The first half of the album they were like we love alice in chains and system of a down, second half of the album they said fuck it we love daft punk, funk, and frank sinatra too. Not just sprinkled into their music, but full on switching up genres throughout songs and the album.

  • @tinplatedave
    @tinplatedave 10 месяцев назад +2

    Isn't it interesting that Mike Portnoy joined the band to record this album? My thoughts are that throughout that process Mike was inspiring them to do something different. That's why the next album Hail to the King was so simple and straight forward. They were probably practicing and learning new musical theories in order to write The Stage, and then Life Is But a Dream. But that's just IMO.

    • @bensroom
      @bensroom 24 дня назад

      Most, if not every song in the nightmare album was already done (at least the demos), Portnoy has said multiple times that he kept the drums almost note for note except for some fills and embellishments.

    Just a thought... this isnt a song that they wanted to show of their musical talents with... this is a song that they wanted to tell a story with... and wanted you to pay attention to the story not just what the insturments are doing... you should know this if you claim to know A7X... Sinister Gates can go crazy if he wants to... this makes me want you not to react to Daddy by Korn because you'll probably ignore those lyrics to...

    What's your opinion on The Wicked End and both parts of I won't see you tonight from City of Evil and Waking the fallen respectively, supposing u already heard them? Also, respect for the honest review.

    • @THEDavidHeretic
      @THEDavidHeretic  Год назад +4

      Probably my 2 favorite albums from Avenged Sevenfold, with Waking The Fallen being my #1 favorite.
      I enjoy listening to I Won't See You Tonight, but I have to say I like listening to part 2 more than part 1. I think it's because it's shorter, but then again the argument could be made if part 2 was really even needed. I can see that argument being made, and to some extent I'm not disagreeing with that argument.
      The Wicked End, not the most memorable track of City Of Evil, however it is a very well written and well constructed song. It's well thought-out, with the instrumental interludes not being overly done or overly extended. I love the play on feel between the straight time and the half time feels.
      Between I Won't See You Tonight (both parts) and The Wicked End, I like The Wicked End more than I Won't See You Tonight.

    Man i wish portnoy didn't have all the DT drama surrounding him at the time..... there would've been a much better chance of them keeping him on. It would've been fitting considering the heavy influence he had on the Rev.
    That said, can never tell if it's for sure if it's gonna be a good or great score, but once you start counting a lot we at least know you somewhat enjoyed it. Lol
