Previously on Whiskey Tribe...”Deb hates being on camera.” On today’s episode of the Whiskey Tribe....Queen Deb basks in her glory as a crazed cameraman catches her from every possible angle.
If you hang out with stupidity for long enough you eventually embrace it. 😁 Just look at Daniel. 😝 Don't worry Rex, I still love you. You guys must have a lot of fun at your jobs. Work hard play hard.
"no shanans"... Therefore, we recap old shanans... 😂😂😂 Great episode guys, I will be trying to get my boss as well as the general manager (huge bourbon guy), to do a barrel pick.
Way to go boys. First off, we need to see Daniel’s shenanigan pants on sale at the merch store, and two, great compilation of shenanigans because our bosses deserve to know what they are getting into! Very interested to see how the stout barrel finish turns out.
Found your channel about two weeks ago. I've never had any whisk(e)y other than Crown Royal before. Just went and bought Monkey Shoulder. It is delicious, thank you guys.
I would assume Deb gets a huge raise going from Master Distiller to Queen of Crowded Barrel Whiskey. With Chapter 7 having been picked, it’s not much longer until the story of Eleanor is complete. Looking forward to the ending.
I got to do a mini “personal” barrel pick at Three Boys Farm and Distillery in Kentucky during a trip this fall - tasted 5 barrels, and then they used a thief to hand fill/label a bottle for me from the barrel I picked. Fun experience!
Well played Gentlemen! I was cackling along with Rex at the end of that video. Rather than no shenanigans, it was all the shenanigans! I honestly don't know how I let that catch me off my guard.
I've had the opportunity through my work to do barrel picks. It's so fun! You basically get the VIP treatment the whole time you're there. One of the things to bear in mind when doing a barrel pick is that most get watered down. So what you taste straight from the barrel may change dramatically once it's at bottle proof.
I LOVE the stout barrel idea. Belle Meade did a stout finished distillery only release and it has been a HUGE hit! Can’t wait to see how yours turns out.
Im a huge beer nerd. My love for beer actually got me into whiskey and this one was a must have. The beer is awesome too if you can get it. They put it out once a year.
Pretty sure my daughter(4) is going to be a mooch and my son(6) will be the Somme. I'll catch my son making tasting notes on his juice and my daughter says she likes the funny guy(Rex) on the vault episodes while the other guy(Daniel) looks funny because he has no hair. I think they're off to a good start.
if ya guys need a vacation, might i recommend coming to Oklahoma, specifically Hochatown OK. There is a few breweries and a new Distillery that has just now announced their straight bourbon being released sometime this year. Also its next to Broken Bow Lake which is one of the most beautiful lakes in Oklahoma.
There is something amazing and terrible about going back and watching an older video, but then you realize as you watch... that you drank all of your chapter 7 bottle not long ago (stupid pandemic) and THAT was the barrel pick for this episode... it was really damn good of course... 🖖😎🥃
thanks for info. would love to be able to pick one day. So now all these years later, are you now doing barrel picks at your distillery? I'm in Texas and would love to stop by. cheers
How can you store wiskey for long term? Do they ever go bad? Say for example I crack open a brand new bottle how long can I leave it on the shelf for, keeping in my it's just on my bar shelf? Thanks in Advance! Love the vids by the way!
In a previous vid you guys mentioned you are using rain water, when brewing beer the water profile is key when deciding on the style of beer and you may add chemicals to amend your water. How much does this also impacts whiskey does the distillation remove this? What treatment do you give your water?
Can you guys build a whiskey aging cavern? You could rapid age in Texas heat for 1-2 years and then let it settle for another 5-10 in an underground climate and humidity controlled environment? (60Fahrenheit and 70Humidity) The final product I expect would be glorious!!!
Question ... do you clean the thief between draws from the barrel?? Or do you have enough just lying around to use a different for each barrel?? Does it even matter?
Kind of a good question... I had just assumed they rinse between uses, but you're kind of right... Does it even matter? The trace amounts left in the thief wouldn't change a barrel, but it might be important to each glass. 🤔
It might have been good to mention that a barrel pick does not mean it's better than a standard offering from a distillery. I think people are getting hung up on that a barrel pick/single barrel is always better than the original. Sometimes it's not.
Matthew Morin technically you’re correct, but chances are that if you’re picking a barrel, you would more than likely choose one that you believe tastes better than the standard offering.
Yes to the person that is picking the barrel but to others it might not be better. What I am trying to help with is don't go and pay a premium on a store pick because it's still a crap shoot if it's better. A store pick at times can just be one random barrel and if the store want it or not. Or they had 5 to choose from and they pick the one they think is best.
Just did a tour at Reservoir distillery in Richmond, it was very interesting on how they almost exclusively work with 10 gallon barrels. They also have a nice barrel picking program where you can either create a mash bill from scratch and age it, or sample from their warehouse to pick out your own barrel. They even allow you to create custom bottle engravings. Talked with the tour guide afterwards, he hadn't heard of the whiskey tribe so I made sure to give him Daniel's information. For anyone who is interested here is a link: www.reservoirdistillery.com/our-whiskies
Hey so I just got a bottle of Chivas Royal Salute Emerald Flagon 21 but I don't know much a out whisky. What should I know about it? Should I save it for a special ocasion? What do you guys think?
So if I have been invited to Loretto, Kentucky to get a bottle out of a barrel with my name on it. Then I really should do it especially if I get to hand dip the bottle myself?
Heeeey Daniel from whiskeytribedotcom, when y'all are done with aging whiskey in a particular barrel, will you make toothpicks out of that barrel an have them up for sale? Whiskey infused barrelmade toothpicks might be a thing, y'know.
It’s my dream to get my own Barrel pick from Makers Mark. Ashbrooke Liquor Outlet in Morgantown WV has a Distillers Select they do w/ 5 of the 46 staves, 2 mocha, 2 spice, and 1 American staves added. It’s great at Cask Strength but I would love to do my own. Don’t know how thrilled my wife would be if I spent $thousands$ on whisky, but it’d be worth being in the doghouse for a bit.
Daniel and Rex! I don't think I've seen you guys do a whisky and food pairings video yet (I'm not counting the mcdonalds video), and I would love to know your approach to food and whisky pairings.
Soo I assume the larger companies have temperature controlled warehouses for their barrel aging to get that consistency. Y'all's are almost on a concrete floor next to a huge garage door Soo the temp. Is always fluctuating. I meant this to be a question... But am I right?
I keep seeing empty fermenters ... ok..i think when Jesse from stillit visits ..it should be Jesse and deb making "new ideas for potential spirits to be produced" and Daniel and the beanie wearing hipster ..has to sample until shinanagins insue ..
I don’t need to show your video to get people in to getting an interest in a barrel pick. Hoping to talk with a store owner as soon as the flu season goes through the ranks.
I wondered the same thing. But just off the top of my head... There are, what, 4 or 5 bottles per gallon right? Multiply by the size of the barrel (55 gal?). That's 220 to 275 bottles per barrel. And that's at Cask Strength. If it were proofed down, you get more bottles... Just for easier math, though, if Cask Strength is $50 per bottle... That's $11,000 to $13,750 for a barrel. Holy shit... That's even more than I was imagining it would be. 😲 I'd never tried to figure out the math before. I just knew it was a lot. 😋 Maybe there's a bulk discount though... Probably still $10,000 to $12,000. Now imagine for something pricy and not just $50 per bottle. Easily double these figures. Edit: 5.047 That's how many 750ml bottles in a gallon... I just figured it out after the rest. I didn't like having that estimate.
I had a thought? Since the Bastards Ball is coming up, would you guys like the idea of doing a barrel pick with ALL the other whiskey channels who attend your event? ;)
My apologies to the Beach Boys.. She's real fine my Barrel 9 She's real fine my Barrel 9 My Barrel 9 Well I saved my pennies and I saved my dimes (giddy up giddy up Barrel 9) For I knew there would be a time (giddy up giddy up Barrel 9) When I would buy a brand new Barrel 9

The last chapter is to be the whiskey that keeps you wanting more. Just like sugary drink keep making you want to drink more.
I got to do a mini “personal” barrel pick at Three Boys Farm and Distillery in Kentucky during a trip this fall - tasted 5 barrels, and then they used a thief to hand fill/label a bottle for me from the barrel I picked. Fun experience!
I just did this with some friends of mine about a month ago. Really fun experience if anyone reading this is planning a Bourbon Trail expedition.
props to Emma for all the work in the background.

Cristobal Gevert I haven’t seen that one but I love feeling! Love how they aren’t afraid to venture out when most Irish doesn’t.

Chapter 7 was also my favorite when I was able to try 6,7, and 8. Trying to keep the bottle around as long as I can

"All of them"
BOTTLING DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...
I'm loving you guys geeking out over bourbons! Its near zero degree in the Upper peninsula of Michigan. Say it Deb!
A whisky lady is my favorite kinda lady.
Bravo on that ending!
Awesome video again, always enjoy learning new things
Perfect ending to show any boss!!😎👍😁
Itsbourbonnight did a cool video on barrel picking, and the different ways different distilleries do it. Definitely worth a watch too.
You guys once again prove how good of people you are! Especially at the end... Lol
Mackmyra distillery here in Sweden sells barrels to private people, so for swedes you can do your barrel picks there
I’m a bar manager at a restaurant in Charlotte, NC. If you’re an NC Distillery I would love to come visit!
They are in Austin TX.
Another great episode you Magnificent Bastards!!! My twins even enjoyed it 😄
Emma needs to get more involved in these videos, she looks pretty cool.
You'd have to be to put up with Rex... That big goof ball. 😁
She made head distiller!!!!
@@Coentjemons

Good video, entertaining and enlightening!
10:20 like Jameson Cask Mates Stout! Cool!
That is a great whiskey, imo.
Y'all have the best job
I am so..o.o.o glad to see that none of those ridiculous shenanigans were added at the end of this informative presentation!!

The more i see your vids the more i wanna do something professionally in whisky! Love it guys, keep it up! And dont forget customers in Europe 😁
No joke the second I saw the ending I showed this video to my boss.
Barrel picking mmmm, everyone's a winner!
As always, great content guys!
thanks for info. would love to be able to pick one day. So now all these years later, are you now doing barrel picks at your distillery? I'm in Texas and would love to stop by. cheers
Perfect ending... I love you guys.
I like toffee caramel whisky, a good bottle of Wisers special blend, not heads or tails, tastes of toffee, great video
Those Blichman Fermenters are beautiful.....
How can you store wiskey for long term? Do they ever go bad? Say for example I crack open a brand new bottle how long can I leave it on the shelf for, keeping in my it's just on my bar shelf? Thanks in Advance! Love the vids by the way!
Finishing in an IRS barrel sounds tasty!!!
I love you guys. I really wish I had been able to get in on the ground level! Damn it sucks to find stuff after it's great.

Are you guys making single malt? Bourbon? Both?
Perfect ending!!!!
Spool shenanigans in another video maybe? Hoping?

watching Rex hold the camera in the mirror is hilarious
Hey so I just got a bottle of Chivas Royal Salute Emerald Flagon 21 but I don't know much a out whisky. What should I know about it? Should I save it for a special ocasion? What do you guys think?
If you have an active group with people who drink barrel pick whiskey, you should know the distilleries that do barrel pick programs.
The Spirit Monk[e]y is present.
Who are you gifting yourself to?
So if I have been invited to Loretto, Kentucky to get a bottle out of a barrel with my name on it. Then I really should do it especially if I get to hand dip the bottle myself?
Can your whiskey spoil at any point in the process?
Heeeey Daniel from whiskeytribedotcom, when y'all are done with aging whiskey in a particular barrel, will you make toothpicks out of that barrel an have them up for sale? Whiskey infused barrelmade toothpicks might be a thing, y'know.

Approximately how many bottles would one expect from a barrel?
Adam Farnsworth in theory, between 150 and 250

That outro though! Well done to all. And all hail Deb, the queen of whisk(e)y.
Most important question - when is Chapter 7 going on sale??
Is there any way to get notified when the next bottling of Eleanor will be available
How do I get a bottle of the Eleanor release?
The Spirit Monk[e]y much enjoyed this educational adventure.
I keep seeing empty fermenters ... ok..i think when Jesse from stillit visits ..it should be Jesse and deb making "new ideas for potential spirits to be produced" and Daniel and the beanie wearing hipster ..has to sample until shinanagins insue ..
I would just grab 5-10 barrels, set them in a circle, then spin a bottle. Surprise me! lol
A ( slipper slip ) spearmint + bersh & spice ) get that in a whiskey we all doing good things , lol.
Emma!!! Woot Woot!!
I don’t need to show your video to get people in to getting an interest in a barrel pick. Hoping to talk with a store owner as soon as the flu season goes through the ranks.

Shit my company won’t let us do a barrel pick for the employees. We just opened our first liquor stores in the whole county this week...
What’s this? Me? All for me!?!?
Did you ever get a list together of distilleries that do barrel picks?
