"I couldn't have done this without he bottles in front of me". Pretty cool you came right out and said that. I did wonder. Respect for the openness, honesty and lack of snootyness.
Still good dang impressed! Haha
thanks man. we're pretty intentional about being as transparent as possible with our whiskey stuff. not sure why so many people feel like they need to make themselves look more impressive than they are. "“What I am is good enough if I would only be it openly.”
― Carl R. Rogers
Whiskey Biscuits fuck and yes! Respect 😀
You guys are the best. Funny, informative, and inspirational
Thanks for everything
Agreed, they are very relatable and they come across as guys you want to sit down and have a drink with. It's like catching up with best friends you haven't seen in a while.
But could have done it with a frontal lobotomy?
I swear, I cannot stress enough how fun it is watching this episode while drinking and deducing nothing from my drink. (i'm sure i'm not the first but I'm a noob) Loved it!!
Feel ya broo im here blunting one and sipping a glass of glengoyne 10, love these guys :D
Drink more whiskey
drink more different kinds of whiskey
I love this hobby!
Seeing people who do what they love, and add value to the world, and understand something beautiful and complex ... just makes me happy.
"Smells like whisky" is exactly what one of my friends says. :D
I enjoy every one of your videos. What I enjoy the most is the teaching attitude and respect for the person you are enjoying a drink with.
Good example with the curry...ahhhh, love curries. I find that since whisky, I use my nose more in general. It's amazing sometimes what you get a whiff of and where. Whisky, it boosts mindfulness and comedy.
thanks caleb. 👍
Thank you guys so much for this video! It had came at the perfect time. I had just got a bottle of Elijah Craig, and the only thing I could pick out of it, taste wise, was "interesting". Going to try using the tasting chart to hopefully figure this out a bit more. First whiskey I've been totally lost on the taste of, which had to happen at some point.
Something about these videos, I always come away feeling better. This one was very informative too so great job you guys!
Admirable salute to your accomplishments in the whiskey notes.
There is no channel better. Greetings from Cape Town, home of good red wines, fighters for friends, thieves of lover's hearts and social drinkers
Great video! I'm just starting my whiskey journey and went to whiskeysmiths to download the tasting chart... Keep up the great work you MBs!
thank you sir.
My mental health problems often interfere in how I experience... well everything. That includes sensory experiences such as smells and tastes, and just like Daniel says it helps to have something to help guide you along. Part of what I started doing with my own review videos was to use an app that has nose, flavor and finish which helps me place words to what I am experiencing in my whiskey.
Been watching you guys for months. Just saw this and it is so helpful. I’ve been at a loss at how to go about picking out notes.
This is why I love this channel! He's doing the things that a whiskey snob would do... and then saying things like "you gotta practice and annoy your friends" hahahaha Love these guys!
Great vid. Thank you for all your hard work putting these together
This is what I did when I started, and still do it, as I'm still new. I would look up tasting notes from multiple places and go through the lists as I was drinking and seeing if I could find any of those notes or not. Keep up the awesome videos!!!
thanks for watching adam.
Great video, guys. Educational and entertaining. Your service to mankind will not be forgotten.
for the PweeBle.
Brilliant, guys. One of your best.
Thank you
thanks paul 👍
Respect guys, great video. I've been enjoying your channels for awhile and love the content. Daniel what are some of your favourite cigars and what would be some of your suggested or ultimate Cigar/Whisky pairings?
Cheers
Just came across your channel I'm now binge watching all your videos.
Shouldn't have told him what was right or wrong until the end, so he wouldn't have had the advantage of knowing which ones it can't be
Håkon Andreas Olaussen I agree. It seemed like the last couple were simply process of elimination.
Yeah, they made it "less blind" by that. I'm pretty okay with the presence of the bottles, I mean, he came out and said that he wouldn't be able to tell anything without the bottles there. But it would have been much more interesting if he would have only let him know which was what by the end.
Hey guys I'm over 2 years late to the party, just discovered you like... 3 days ago I think?
love it. on the last one, I think he (Daniel if I'm not wrong?) had 0 chance once this mix. Now I've seen you go to Ireland (and the Middlelton distellery that is) and would like to see you doing the same for the top 10 European whiks(e)ys. As well as saying what you think about different Middleton whiskey
I'm excited for the videos to come once you guys get into playing around in your distillery!
Awesome video! Although I drank my share of jack and cokes in the past I’m fairly new to the world of whiskeys. I got a bottle of Cragganmore 12 from a friend (would love to hear your thoughts on it) and bought a bottle of Monkey Shoulder (because of your recommendation) to compare and was surprised at how much I could tell the difference. I have watched all your videos and am excited to start collecting and drinking along with your videos to see how our tastes compare. You guys are informative and entertaining so please keep the videos coming.
thanks Eddie, we're glad to have you with us.
I LOVE the hay smell in whiskeys. One of favorite flavors. Yumm.
Daniel said, "I couldn't have done this without the bottles in front of me." I really expected him to follow it up with, "I could have done this without a frontal lobotomy though."
I like it that Daniel has this urge to share his knowledge about stuff without ever getting cocky about it. I admire people who don't let themselves be flattered too much. Not like Bill Burr, dude is amazingly funny but he can't take a compliment at all XD Poor guy.
Anyways, I wish I was able to do/learn this, but I really don't see how I'd even start. I buy a bottle at a time (usually 1 per month), finish it up and then wait for the next month to get another one :p I'd like to believe that watching you guys would make me more knowledgeable, but I really don't believe in theory without straight up practice.
Awesome vid. The confessional....creative as heck.
That was a fantastic instructional tool. I always wondered how you determine "notes" without reference standards. Since you are using the reference standard you have logged away in your grey matter and jogged by a list of those notes to look at and recognizing them through your personal experience it is quite the Plutonian way of building up your skills. Great...now to task of pouring crown royal down the toilet...Cheers!🤟😃🤟
Pretty excited for the Bourbon special. We can't get Angel's Envy in Canada, but one of my Whisky Ambassador friends was in Vegas last fall and brought back a bottle.
She just gave me a sample for my birthday 😃 So I know what I'm drinking during that show!
nice!
Just something id like to add, the Distiller app, its on iphone im sure its on android. You can add any alcohol you've tried, and they have a section for whiskey, to your wishlist or collection. One thing I do is review every thing I try, sometimes I just click the star rating, but writing out a review for each one there makes it easier for you to go back and check what you have tried and what you have reviewed. It also offers suggestions to similar whiskeys. Besides this channel, its the thing that started my exploration.
nice. its definitely a good app. in my top 3 whiskey apps for sure.
Whiskey Biscuits what are the other 2?
Great video, thanks for it. I’ve been tasting various scotch for about a year now and am just now starting to distinguish different flavor profiles. I’m also a chef so this helps me in my line of work as well. I taste whiskey in all things now.
Always a fun time when I watch the young guys throw back Jameson and wince and here I am sipping away at laphroaig 10.
Here from 2022 watching all the old whiskey tribe videos because they are so awesome
Great video guys! I love the details and facts. I know you are slightly bored by him rambling, Rex, but, more videos of geeking out by Daniel would be fun. The music and editing are very well done. You guys make a well balanced and entertaining team. Looking forward to seeing more progress videos on the new place.
thanks Michael. we try to strike a balance. a just wish we had more time to make these episodes. it was shot friday afternoon with saturday release. 😐
The time and effort is most appreciated! and look! no dislikes! ;)
So I'm having a bit of trouble identifying different flavours via the nose because it just gets lost in the alcohol burn. Do you have a few ways of dealing with this? I've tried 'not swirling' the glass, and I've tried smelling gently, but yeah.
It's so cool to see what you guys have built from your love of whiskey!
Incredible. Many thanks for this channel and all you do.
Very cool, so how does one sign up to buy your initial release of whiskey... I can hardly wait!!!!
we'll be letting people know first in the weekly newsletter. you can sign up at whiskeytribe.com
Any tips on how to avoid palate fatigue while drinking whisky? I often find that I can taste more of the nuances at first, but after a drinking it for a while the whisky seems to get a little "flat", even if I take small sips and drink slowly.
Really excellent video - just the reminder and encouragement I've needed to keep at it and it's a learning/growing process. Cheers, lads!
2024 coming back to this video. One of my fav... It's really amazing watch the lvl up of Whisky Tribe again :')
I've said it before and I'll say it again, you are mighty Daniel Whittington. Your bourbon skills are way beyond what you give yourself credit for. Though I think next time it would be harder if you didn't find out what you got right /wrong til the end. I usually see ppl fail miserably at these challenges.
The new distillery is looking amazing btw. I really love the window and confessional ideas. Those seem really creative and interesting. Should be a really awesome place when finished!
thanks charlie (this is rex btw) we're looking forward to dialing in the cool factor when the building is finished. if we haven't said it already, we're super-appreciative to have you with us. contributors like you are few and far between, and you help make this fun. 👍
Whiskey Biscuits Thank you very much, sir! The feeling is mutual! Biscuits and the Vault are literally the only channels I contribute to. I comment here and there on other channels but you guys have struck a chord with me and I just can't quit you. ;) Keep up the fine work.
Im new to all of this, but I love catching your videos while having a bit of bourbon or really new for me Scotch. You two vibe off each other in a great way, your choice of background music is very relaxed yet awesome, and your slogan is one to live by. It's like making new friends each time I watch one of your videos.
As always great video! We are true fans. You guys perfected this video perfectly. Keep up the phenomenal work guys.
*Says wine is easier to identify than whiskey* *immediately start identifying whiskey based on the wine finish notes* 😂 well done sir 👌
Just what we were asking for!!! Thank you!!!
Distillery coming along nicely! One of the better episodes! To the bulk section of my grocer!
Great video! Actually planing on doing something like this in two weeks with some friends, but all the whisky's are going to be from Islay.
oooohhhh. frankly, we would have both preferred to do that, but we had a bunch of bourbon that couldn't go do waste. enjoy!
I'm not a bourbon guy, but the next time you have some Angels Envy you need to get rid of, I'll take one for the team :D
Awesome episode!
Wow. Daniel, you are a badass. That was impressive.
Guys this might sound dumb, but if you believe that you can be a whisky master you can detect so random things in whiskey, for example we found honeydew melon rind in Laphroig Select. And this is magic to me. Cheers
Way late here but, just a little while ago while sipping Knob Creek SB 120 I got cheddar cheese at the very end of the finish.
@@Questionable_Talent well, that's a win/win. Knob Creek and cheddar cheese.
I love makers 46!!! I get like a candied cherry off of it with a little winter spices nutmeg and cinnamon type of spice
Silly question, would sitting around a campfire/bonfire effect how smokey a drink could taste since you already are being overwhelmed by that smell presently? Since peat, I would guess, does not smell like your typical firewood could you nail down more specific attributes of peat'ed (like region to region of peat) whiskies?
strong smells in the air will absolutely effect what you're tasting. for example, if a blind-folded person is smelling an onion while biting into an apple, they will swear they are biting in to an onion. regarding peat, its definitely a different smoke than wood smoke.
Thanks.
YAY, some of my Bourbon choices are on the list!
Great video guys! Incredibly helpful and informative. Keep up the good work
thank you for watching Zac 👍
This was my one of my biggest question when it comes to whiskey. Great information! thank you, you magnificent bastards!
Awesome stuff as always!
Fun and impressive to see Daniels skills at play
ug. don't encourage him... 😂👍
It's pretty cool to see you guys building your own distillery. Are you doing to be selling whiskey? Because I'll be the first to buy a bottle. Given you price it reasonably, lol.
Would baking and tasting bread made with ingredients used in whiskey help someone learn how to pick apart the flavors in whiskey?
Daniel is so good! Next up, blind tasting between all the scotches in the vault !
I dig that last saying guys. Fighting, stealing, drinking.
I had to work at liking beer. Whisky was easy, once I tried Ardbeg and fell in love.
Ardbeg was the one that changed my life as well!
I haven't tried Ardbeg yet, but I just picked up a Laphroaig 10 and want to try Ardbeg next to compare.
I tried highland park 12 recently, ugh it’s ok. It was my first peaty scotch.Still Love Bourbon more. Will I like Ardbeg 10?
Ardbeg is the one that got me too
For me it was Lagavulin
Noticed Aqvavitae's background music. Love it ! Great job Daniel ( Rex!).
heheh. just do a youtube search for "no copyright music". you'll find a lot of youtubers gravitate to the same tracks. a few artists in particular have great music that anyone can use as long as you give attribution in the description below the video.
Your best show EVER! You can never be too nerdy. Thanks for the lesson
you can DEFINITELY be too nerdy! sometimes its fun to let daniel off the leash though. 😂👍
Random question, do you guys ever offer the workers on site any Whiskey when you pop down? What a story that could be “I was introduced/converted to whiskey whilst building a whiskey distillery at a whiskey school” 😆🤘🏻
S. Steer, nope. Whiskey and power tools don't mix well. But they can throw a party with all their friends and family when construction is finished. We'll bring the whiskey 😉
Whiskey Tribe ... "im getting back ends of sherry and getting hits of dark fruit and oak...." Me -" im getting pissed " lol
Perfect folks!
I did the flight last night with High West Camp Fire, Laphroaig 10, and Balcone’s Brimstone, had my Whiskey Smith’s tasting pages all printed out.. FORGOT THEM AT HOME. Oh well... going to have to try it all over again. ;)
Thanks for all the awesome resources you magnificent bastards!
For the last three weeks I've forgotten to take my log book with me to my #WhiskyFriday tastings. It just feels wrong! I'm really annoyed at myself about it, too because I had a couple of really good whiskies, but I don't have any notes on them!
Canadian Whisky Smith At least we have excuses to try them again! Lol Unless it was one-time tasting then that stinks dude, I’m sorry. I did my tasting at a local place so I can get them whenever! Hope you get to try yours again soon!
The tastings I go to are all random. One of my local stores has a different rep in each week to demo a few selections. I take pictures and post a few notes to my Instagram, which helps, but I'm a nerd...I want my log book notes! LOL!
There are a couple I'll definitely be trying to sample again. #ForScience
thanks for watching Bridget! sorry about the forgotten notes... if you REALLY need help, i can offer up my services and taste those whiskeys for you. 😂
Whiskey Biscuits well if y’all are ever in Houston I’d be happy to oblige!
Thank guys helping me on my spirit voyage, you are funny and very informative.
I can't wait to try the vodka "eraser" test with simple one or two notes whiskeys such as jameson, always a classic and a go to if i dont know what else to get (for the money). I have started to notice a strange phenomenon of vanilla which excites me to become more equaite with more smokier whiskeys such as certian Scotches.
Man, that was impressive. I probably would've thought this was fake if I didn't already know Rex would want him to fail!!
Great segment, loved the tutorial!
thanks Ben! glad to have you with us.
Great video! You guys need to put in a round door a la Bagend at the distillery.
It's funny this video is in my recommended list. Last week I purchased a bottle of a whiskey I had never tried, and it tastes remarkably like another I've had, but for the life of me I cannot place it! My sister and her fiance cannot place the exact flavor either, though it's also very familiar to them.
Can we see more of these... It's cool
Great info Thanks
Now I need a Magnificent Bastard Tee
coming soon. 👍
Some good choices there!
You’ve got a bit of some background fan running noise in this video as well as the last few whiskey vault videos that’s pretty easy to pick up with headphones in. House cleaning aside, keeping dropping that useful knowledge.
great stuff guys! never heard the smelling with your mouth open, will have to try it!
Thanks for all the great tips!!
thanks for being here 👍
Amazing guys. Thanks for the update and tips...it's weird I think I'm as excited as you are for the distillery and we don't even know each other from Adam. I can't not wait to try the very first thing you come up with. Keep up the good work. Later, bastards.
That was impressive....
I'm only 1:15 into this video, and the main thing I've picked up so far is that Daniel drank 10 bourbons before lunch.
Loved the video! I always used the notepad since i started drinking whisky (3 years ago) but only to list the various whisky i drank i will surely note flavours too! And bring the thing to my friends, we are all whisky nerds
awesome! if you and your friends aren't already in the tribe, hit up whiskeytribe.com 👍
That's impressive regardless of having reference points.
Next time you should do a taste testing tournament in the vault. Have 10-20 whiskey picked out just like you had here and try to figure out which one out of all available in the vault it is.
Should re visit this and throw the gauntlet to Rex
Great episode regardless!
I would like to come to the school if thats possible..how,whenwhere?
Rex missed on the possibility to put something horrid in a glass to pull a prank on daniel! He wouldn't have noticed, just put the bad stuff in the Stagg glass ahah
frankly, thought about it - ran out of time. we recorded that friday afternoon. episode releases saturday.
You forget part 2 of the bet. If Daniel fails, which he did, Rex gets to drink it!
Never used my nose and mouth at the same time to breathe. Never tried it until this video. Thanks
O maluco é brabo mermo.
Enjoying this with a glass of Tallisker Storm, so nice :D Great content!
There is a whiskey bar or two locally where I am ... assuming they would let me taste small amounts of each. :)
I got married last March at the chapel. So mad I didn’t discover these guys then. Frustrating being located right where I spent my wedding weekend.
I knew it! I just knew it! (stunt whiskey) You guys wouldn't have done such a thing! The Whiskey Gods would of smited you for that!
How many oz? 1 or 2?
