A double whammy. Shedding the older fans --we don't need you any more, the show needs YOUTH!
Then insulting the intelligence of the younger audience it wants to attract with nonsense like Space Babies.

Disney bought a lemon. The gay Doctor might go for season 2 since money has already been spent, but that should be enough; that should be the end.

Two words for Disney..."Who Babies". It worked for the Muppets. I vote for the next Doctor to be a young child or Teenager. Fast cars, hot girls, beach adventures. Doctor Who Baywatch! CSI, Doctor Who! A 30 minute sitcom, "Doctor Who Street." The last could also be a children's educational show. The "Doctor Who Club," Writing any of this down Disney!

No they should stop funding it, I’m starting to really resent the BBC for spending my money on left wing political lecturing in EVERY single programme they produce. Virtually everything feels like propaganda, not entertainment.
And what happened to ‘impartiality’? I used to enjoy history/ historical fiction but even these are contaminated by an obvious political narrative. It’s tedious, and turning people off viewing their programmes.

That's not accurate that this last (current) season of Doctor Who hasn't brought in young viewers. That's the one demographic that they did quite well in. I agree that by the look of it Disney will not renew after season 2, and fair enough for what they wanted/needed out of it. There are two factors though that haven't frequently been raised, and that's that Disney+ globally haven't done much to promote the show (which can also be attributed to its low start which, as per the trend for most shows, slowly slipped from there after its debut episodes for the season) and that in virtually all countries across the world that previously aired doctor Who they were free to air and as such there was always going to be a big drop in worldwide figures (it was what I predicted, no matter how good the show is).
Edit: The referred to influx of new young fans is primarily in the UK figures based on BBC data of their UK broadcasts of the most recent series. Disney+ has also seen a slight increase in young Doctor fans on North America but sadly a decline of older fans, a reasonable amount of which is attributable to not everyone having Disney+

Disney Who has only done well with younger viewers in comparasson to how badly it has done with everybody else.
The main problem is, it has bought those few thousand new viewers at the price of losing millions of dedicated old fans whose loyalty to the show has, hitherto, stood the test of time. How many of those new viewers will stick with the show throogh thick and thin as the old fans did ? How many are just casual viewers will quickly move on to other shows ?

@@justynmatlock8873 yes I agree re. Disney, but the UK demographic is the one that most headlines have focussed on, and was what I was referring to. I'll edit my comment to clarify that.

@@robertdora7026 The UK viewing figures are dismal, any way you look at them.
The BBC came close to cancelling DW during Whitacker's last season because of low ratings, and only stayed their hand because they hoped that the 60th Anniversary and the return of RTD, plus the Disney money and viewing platform would turn things around. Instead, the ratings are worse than ever, the Disney Channel has dropped to 4th place amoungst streaming platforms and the money looks set to be cut off after the second season.
Disney really, really pushed 'The Accolyte', it was THEIR show, but they still cancelled that. What chance a British show than can't even scrape a place in the Nielson Ratings ?

I'm not concerend. Disney bought international streaming rights.
They aren't really "co funding", though did put a fai chunk of cash in.
    Disney have had little input.
Yes, viewing figures are low for live broadcast - but compared to TV overall, it's doing well. Not megabucks well, but well enough. ALL live viewing figures are down.
Disney don't care about live views.
Yeah, they may cut the funding. But if they were worried, they would have done that before he second series started running.
Dr Who is different, but saying this series is "bad", is not true.
You didn't like it, fair enough! I've not liked every episode, but overall, it's been a pretty good series.
It's just a shame RTD is great at building suspepnse, mystery & threat, but terrible at resolving the threat!
Compare "magic dog lead" to "making use of real world physics in a cunning trap."
He's also not good with "likeable by dim" characters - eg. Dot & Bubble. They always end up annoying, especially when we are supposed to like them before plot happens.
There's been a decent mix of "new Who" stories in the series, from Monster of The Week, through various genres. Who doing what it does best!
Who has always changed over time. It's always had varying viewing figures - that's partly why it changes.
Yes, it's not gong to last forever. It's already been ended once, and had a couple of "pauses" in new Who too.

I can only agree with your viewpoint. I am also expecting another 'rest'. Look at the time scales. NewWho lasted roughly the same as the Classic series. (In fact, longer in terms of years, I think? But not in terms of weekly exposure?) I'm not in a position to compare actual broadcast hours of Classic and Nu. Perhaps you are?

@@nigelwalker6103 thanks. So anything over 20 years would appear to be when its life span starts to run out, considering the time when the BBC started moving it to weird hours and days probably falls into this timescale (though personally I wouldn't include the hiatus period).

@enigmagenesis7341 20 years is a long time for any tv series.

I agree. I have no objection at all to political and social subtexts (they've been a part of Doctor Who since "The Dead Planet" with its warning of ecological disaster, atomic weaponry and fascism) but they should stay as SUBtexts. Nobody likes being lectured even if the lecture is making points you agree with. I'm the whining progressive lefty in my friend-group and I have no problem at all with the messages that RTD is putting over, but I don't like being patronised by the way he's doing it, or that storytelling is taking a back-seat to him standing up with his megaphone yelling at us.

    • @alfonsobonso2000

@@finncullen Totally agree with you. There is nothing wrong with having subtexts of political and social issues when woven into a good story. The current ham fisted attempts from RTD are tedious.
