Install Nifty City Carplay and Android Auto multimedia player into Infiniti QX50, Part 2

I installed the Nifty City Android based multimedia unit into my 2017 Infiniti QX50 so that I can use Carplay and Android Auto on the stock system. This is part 2, installation details..

I have the same car, your video has been so valuable to me in doing my install. I have followed what you did up to the point of running the usb cords around the shifter to the console box. How did you get past the cup holder section in between the shifter and storage console?

Hi @Brett11D I'm glad the video was helpful! I was able to fish the cables under the cupholder. I started on the shifter side and pushed the cables through to the cubby space.

Thanks! I don’t think I would have attempted this without your video....I referred to it several times. Especially when I unplugged all the radio connections before I realized that the top connectors were exactly the same as the radio connectors! I saw the same color coding though, and was able to figure it out. Thanks!!

I have one more question, if you don’t mind. How did you secure the Nifty City unit above the glove box? There isn’t much to attach to. I used the Velcro to attach to the small metal brace, but there isn’t much surface area there. I also used a zip tie to attach and hold it snug. Curious as to what you did. Also, did you do anything to not have this rattle?

@@Brett11D Mine is tightly zip-tied. I also tied up cables in bundles and attached them to something if they ran near a surface that I could loop to. I can't detect any noises.

Does this retain the backup camera and steering wheel controls?

The backup/top view cameras still automatically come up when you select reverse and front/side cameras still come up when you press the "camera" button. Still works exactly as stock.
