      @@elmerarana6757 thanks, I'm not a fan of Chrysler, and I prefer Honda over Nissans for reliability, and things like Android Auto were a factor, and so that's why I was looking at Honda. You're probably correct that those are faster but there were a lot of other things to consider.

    Great review on a great car. I recently bought a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring (in Modern Steel), and LOVE it. The engine is smooth, it is plenty powerful when needed (I unintentionally spun the tires pulling out into traffic), the eCVT is smooth and always ready, and this car is quiet. However, I will say that the 47/47/47 mpg rating is not accurate. I got 55.7 mpg city mpg today and average in the HIGH 40s and low 50s when combined. It has so much technology. Everyday I'm learning new things it can do. This is a FANTASTIC car. Great looks (MANY compliments on the color and the car's looks from friends and strangers), superb quality and a quiet and luxurious ride. And it's a FUN car to drive. I may have to add stabilizer to the gas tank since I go so long before filling up.

      The weather, too hot or too cold make your engine work harder so gas mileage will be surfer. Your driving habit , hard accelerate, braking frequently, high speed on highway will cut down on gas mileage too, sport mode is gas mileage killer. Use eco mode, keep the distance, learn to use paddles instead of brakes will get you good gas mileage and make your brake last longer. My average is about what Honda is advertising and more.

      That's good to hear. My daughter will be getting her license in a year or two, and I'll probably hand my old Corolla down to her. I'm leaning strongly toward picking up a used accord hybrid to replace it. Can you perhaps comment on how reliable your car has been in the time you've had it? Reliability of a used hybrid is a big concern of mine.

    I have been driving my Accord Hybrid for about 6 weeks now. I had been driving a 2002 Prius for the past 15+ years. The Accord has infinitely more power. The trunk is huge. It's been taking me a while to get used to all of the new electronic stuff. However, perhaps due to the very hot weather, the car has not been achieving the 47 mpg suggested. The high 30's seem more like it. Have other folks noticed the drop off in mpg due to hot weather?

      I don't know what else to say. The weather here has been in the eighties and nineties and we run the air conditioner on high. I won't know whether the gas mileage improves until the weather cools down. I purchased the Touring trim and it basically has every gizmo possible. I have enjoyed driving the car. It's quiet, takes the bumps reasonably, and has plenty of pep. I do not regret my choice. Before buying the Accord we also test drove the Camry Hybrid and the Sonata Hybrid. I felt that the rear visibility was better in the Accord and the controls were more intuitive. As for the Sonata, we thought the controls were very confusing although the front passenger seat was extremely roomy. Go with your gut.

    Some issues, the headliner is really flimsy, also the trunk does not shut softly it slams, the trunk interior of the lid is upholstered with this cheap fiber carpet that looks and feels like its steel wool or that underlayment for the carpet in your house

    I just test drove the 2018 Accord Hybrid LX. Accord's top reviews are in my opinion overinflated and road noise, somewhat cheaper interior materials and mediocre rear window visibility bring it down to Earth- and not a clear choice in its class.

      It's fairly simple logic. Stay in EV mode as long as possible. Learn how hard you can accelerate without dropping out of EV mode. Use the steering wheel regen paddle when anticipating a slow down or stop. When you drive conservatively and are not in a hurry, you'll get 45-50mpg.

    I own the 2018 Honda Accord hybrid. I love the car. In town one can regularly get or exceed the EPA estimate of 47mpg but at constant cruise controlled highway speeds of 65-70mpg, no one will NEVER get close to the EPA figures. Typically one can only achieve between 39-40MPG. This can easily be repeated as the driver is not even involved as the cruise control is managing the speed. I have driven over 2500 highway miles and the highway MPG is very consistent at around 40mpg. Apparently Honda took a play from the VW playbook and figured out how to deceive the EPA. Waiting for the class action settlement.

      Roger F I have a 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid and I average around 45 mpg in hot Texas summer (keep in garage so not a lot a/c blowing to cool off cabin) and 41-42 in the winter. I mostly drive in B mode and use regenerative braking to charge battery. Sweet spot for that kind of mileage is 30-50 mph range. Took road trip to San Antonio on toll road doing 85 mph and was averaging about 35 mpg. If you drive aggressive and in sport mode, you'll never achieve those numbers advertised. You kind of have to drive like a grandpa on a Sunday drive to get close.

      Roger F. - excellent post! My experience with a 2018 Honda Touring Accord has been that I get between 34 and 37 consistently, rarely have gotten 40, and that was when going on the highway from an altitude of 5000 to 100 feet, so basically a lot of downhill was involved. The other way it was 35MPG. EITHER "Waiting for the class action settlement," OR initiating my own talks with a good lawyer. I don't like being lied to.

    Yes, it's nice they put the battery under the rear seat for more trunk space, but unless they have electromagnetic shielding to shield the body (which I read doesn't cost much), I wonder why anyone would want to sit on top of battery that would have large currents going through it and creating large EM fields (physics 101 right hand rule). What's the down side? Well, you are directly exposing your vital organs into the fields, such as your testies, pancreas, liver and kidneys not sure if that's a good idea, especially when kids are in the back and their bodies/ organs are not fully developed. And for an extended road trip of even just 2 hrs or may be 4 hrs, what would that do to your body on a cellular level with that kind of high level exposure? What kind of destruction to cell walls and mutations would it cause? No body knows...

      That's not how it works out in the real world. You can't just add the power output of each motor. They are never going to peak at the same time and since they're going through to the same axle they experience varying levels of drivetrain loss. Some car companies advertise their power ratings this way, but they're inflating.

    I like the way the motor powers the front wheels and not the engine, because I love the electric driving feel from driving an EV for two years. Personally I would only drive an EV, but for those buying a hybrid, this is the type you want. But yeah, why would you buy a hybrid that doesn’t plug in?
    Also, to have a hybrid with paddle adjustable regen is great. Especially when not every EV has that. That needs to change soon.

    • @HarryKuloh
      @HarryKuloh 6 лет назад +1

      Chris Till I do not appreciate the electric feel. Only sissies do.
      Also, why would anyone want a hybrid that DOES plug in? What an annoying hassle. You have very counterintuitive desires.

    The 47mpg thing is extremely lame. Put in a 12kWh battery and it gets 999mpg

    • @SIIKAP1
      @SIIKAP1 2 года назад

      False and misleading. First of all it would need more like an 18.4 kWH battery pack. Secondly, 999mpg is extremely misleading for a plug-in hybrid. MPGe is what needs to be calculated, which in this car would be more like 105 to 120 MPGe.

      The majority of the families are not ready for plugins due to charging speed. Plugs also means a bigger battery that's not gonna fit in a standard accord chassis (which they have Insight, basically an accord with a big enough rear end to fit the batteries.)
