    A lot of people asking why the Insight is so similar to the Accord. It's smaller, and cheaper. Reason the Insight exists is because there is no Civic Hybrid. It's basically the cross between Civic and Accord for hybrid users. The Accord is larger, and comes at a higher price point, and a bit more power.

    • @jdspunkd
      @jdspunkd 4 месяца назад

      There is literally a civic hybrid. First gen is 03-05 and second is 06-11.

    Since I’m looking for greater mpg, Insight EX seems a better fit for me. I like the body and don’t mind less space. When you live in a city where you have to parallel park all the time, any bit helps 😅

    Awesome comparison review, I say that because typical buyers try to stay in a price range to see what they can get that has the most bang for the buck. My price range was less than $25,000 but I could afford a little more if necessary. For me I chose the 2019 Insight EX and got a good deal because the 2020's were arriving at the dealership and they want to move the 2019's so I bought the Insight EX (black pearl) and saved a couple grand over the 2020. At timesI wished I had gotten the Touring for the luxuries it offered. My previous Honda was a Civic EX-L with all the goodies except navigation. I wish my Insight included BSM and the more powerful 2.0L Accord engine. As for fuel economy I use an app called Fuelly, I've kept track of every fill up and I average 53.5 mpg per fill up with the average fill up of 8 gallons and 428 miles driven between fill ups. I've gotten as high as 69.3 mpg on a few 82 mile round trips to doctors appointments under the right driving conditions. Something Car Connections and all other reviewer need to point out is the fact the mpg with any car but more specifically to hybrids is the fact that hybrids have to be driven conservatively to get the best fuel economy. I seldom exceed the speed limit, drive in Econ mode and ease into the throttle and use the regen paddle as often as possible to slow down to put as much charge as possible back into the batter. I've discovered the EV range is usually a mile or less but I also discovered the best use of EV is when stopped at traffic lights or going through a drive through and waiting in line for long periods of time. In those situations EV works great, powers the car and you do not burn any gas. Remember a conventional ICE is using gas each time it has to stop and idle waiting for the light to change or waiting for traffic to move or going through drive ins where you sit and wait. It's up to the driver to remember how to get the best fuel economy. When I read someone complaining about poor fuel economy in a Honda hybrid I know based on my experience they aen't driving to maximize fuel economy because Honda hybrids as well as others are very efficient.

    Thanks for all of your great reviews!
    I just wanted to come here and say, that after watching your other reviews of the Insight (and them coming at the perfect time for me to buy a new car), I decided to head down to the dealership yesterday and pick up one myself.
    Took a bit to get used to as someone coming from a non-hybrid, but after a day or so of driving, I can easily say it's my favorite car I've yet driven. Picked up the Touring model in Aegean Blue, with black interior, and I couldn't be happier.
    Definitely recommend seeing the cars in person though before making a final decision. My dealership only had a few Insights, but seeing/driving them in person helped solidify my decision for sure (and had the unintentional side effect of me going for a touring rather than an EX). Being the first person to buy an Insight from them also felt pretty great lol

      Nice. I was leaning toward Aegean Blue but my dealer didn't have any when they were having a $5000 off 3-day sale..... got Modern Steel instead which looks good too and have been very happy even though I only got the "lowly" EX version. I still need to go back to the dealer and get my windows tinted.

    • @Tainu
      @Tainu 6 лет назад +2

      The EX version is really great too! I had intended to get an EX before I went, but seeing the blue touring on the showfloor, I knew I had to have it . Glad to hear you're happy with your car as well. I also need to get my windows tinted but am a bit shorter on cash now that I've upgraded to the touring trim haha

    I bought a 2018 Accord Hybrid at the end of June to replace a 2014 Accord Hybrid with 122,000 miles on it. I did drive an Insight first. The dealer had just received it. The Insight is definitely smaller, but for $5,000 less, is a bargain. I am sure it will sell like hot cakes. I had a 2011 Insight and the 2019 is vastly superior. The Accord is far more refined, however. You see where the extra money went. For me, paying an extra $80/month is well worth it. As for mileage, in my 2014 I averaged between 47 and 48mpg in the real world. My driving includes a lot of highway miles at 70-75mph. I am very careful to accelerate gradually and coast whenever I can instead of braking. Surprisingly the 2018 Accord is averaging 48-49 (over the first 5,000+ miles) and my last tank was 50.9. One thing I don't like about the redesigned Accord is they made the gas tank smaller. I assume this helped Honda relocated the battery pack, increase the trunk size and make it a pass-through. I drive over 3,000 miles a month so getting 100 miles less per tank is unfortunate, but the larger trunk (60% larger than the 2014) is great. If you are in the market for a high mpg sedan, drive them both and decide which is right for you.

      Jon Poklop Great review. Did you get a good trade in value on your older Accord Hybrid? One thing that worries me is poor trade in value due to dealers claiming the battery might need a replacement

    • @JonPoklop
      @JonPoklop 5 лет назад +5

      I got a fair trade. I had 125,000 miles with one accident (cosmetic where I got clipped in the fender) on the Carfax do that hurt me $1,000, but I was happy. I didn't feel there was a hybrid penalty due to the battery. I didn't experience that when I sold my 2011 Insight either.
      FYI, I am averaging between 47 and 48 mpg in the first 7500 miles with a high of 51.5 and a low of 44. That way all highway with a lot of 75-80 mph speeds.

Larger with better space/storage, more premium materials, a huge 62hp jump, but with only a 1mpg fuel economy penalty vs the Insight Touring. Suggestions for your reviews: compare apples to apples (same trim levels), basic internal dimensions and how many people can comfortably sit in the back seats. With two vehicles so similar as the Insight and Accord hybrid, the reason many of us may be considering the Accord is the basic comfort level of putting three adults in the back seat. And if the same trim level in one car is more fully featured than the other car -- that's important to know. Trim levels having different features is something we can look up online.

    • @ShawnFumo
      @ShawnFumo 5 лет назад

      David, true but to be fair it makes some sense in this case. The Touring Insight and EX Accord are the most similar in terms of features and price point. Someone who is in the market for the Insight probably is already near the top of their price limit for the Touring model. They might pay a little more to jump to the Accord (and that’s what this review can help with) but it’s less likely they’d pay significantly more for the Accord Touring.

    So why does the Insight Touring have a lower MPG compared to the LX/EX trim? I've been looking for an explanation but so far haven't found any.

    • @pogiguy0533
      @pogiguy0533 5 лет назад

      I believe it has a little more bells and whistles that makes it heavier

    • @ShawnFumo
      @ShawnFumo 5 лет назад

      The main reason is that the wheels are larger diameter and thus much heavier. I’m sure the other extras add a little weight but it is mostly due to the wheels. Some people have replaced theirs with smaller wheels or gotten larger wheels that weigh less than the ones that come with it. Either one is a bit of an investment unless you can trade/sell the original wheels to someone else.
      It’s a shame they don’t have the option to just buy the Touring with smaller wheels. I’m sure it simplifies their assembly/distribution and makes it less complicated to have one possible MPG for a particular trim but it’d still be nice to have the option.
      I have to say I do like the pinwheel design on the Touring wheels though!

    I like the insight more...mostly. I DO like that you can actually get Blind Spot Warning in the Accord (finally). I would really love to see Honda drop the lame Lane Watch feature. A lot of reviewers say it's very distracting when the camera footage pops up when you're driving. So, distracting and not as helpful. No thanks.

    Wish they would build a Civic hatchback hybrid... currently driving a Crosstour and do not like the split rear window, so I know the Prius would be similar in that regard. A hatchback would offer a nice alternative to both a sedan or “liftback”. I do have to say the Insight is a good looking car.

    I recently bought a 19 insight touring. From my personal opinion, it's worth the money, but not the hype. Off the bat you'll find the 151hp is almost dangerous at times. When it was warmer out, I averaged 47 mpg per tank. But it's now cold out and I'm averaging 38. The insight is a rattle bucket inside and out. The panel fitment of the exterior is terrible, they say the dash and doors are wrapped in leather, it's not. The upgraded 10 speaker sound system sounds at best what a lot of factory sound systems sound like. I'm not very impressed at all. I do love the safety features, the lane keep assist does a great job automatically steering the car for you. And the front crash alert seems flawless. It is a comfortable car, I'm 6'1 and fit comfortably, and is comfy long distance. Overall for the 30k dollars I spent on the insight I feel like it was an even break dollar for value.

      Kinetic M, yeah it just seems silly. I have some back issues and have a long commute. It’s relatively comfortable with the fixed lumbar and the heated seats really help, but there’s no reason they couldn’t have made it adjustable at least in the Touring trim.

    • @ShawnFumo

      Avnett, not sure what you mean? It definitely can run in EV mode. I once took a trip that happened to start with a full battery and fairly level ground. Stayed in EV almost the whole time over the three miles and got 133mpg.
      The heater does rely on the engine, so it’ll go on more often when using it. You can turn off the heater and hear the engine immediately turn off. I find it amusing during the winter when I’d had the heater off last time I was driving and then have the remote start going. If I get into the car while it’s still going and turn it on, the engine shuts off. Bit of a trip at first lol.
      Remote start always tries to go to 72 degrees and AC doesn’t force the engine so I’d expect it’d only go on if the battery was too low.

    I'm disappointed that the Insight does not come with factory-installed front/rear parking assist sensors. That's a glaring omission from a car that includes otherwise good tech content.

    • @ShawnFumo
      @ShawnFumo 5 лет назад

      Joe, yeah. I figured I could do without them and that let me get other accessories for the same price, but if it was pre-installed at the factory that would save a ton of labor costs (and have no chance of the dealer messing up the install). Even if it was just on the Touring trim.
