Dude, I just want to say the bumpers you have with the commercial breaks in your videos are a nostalgia trip the likes of which I've never seen from video essays like this. Such a great way of establishing an identity and tone for your channel. Keep up the great work!

The Magic Kingdom Pirates of the Caribbean opened in 1973, not 1983. So, it wasn't the "early 80s" like you mention. But besides that, great video!

I remember riding Pirates in 1979. Yup. 1973 for Orlando. 1983 for Tokyo.

They are great. One or two of them I've seen so far, I remember seeing on TV.

I rode Pirates of the Caribbean at Florida's WDW in 1980. Only time I ever been to Florida. The ride was constructed not in 1983 as you said but in the early 70s.

They could expand Thunder Mountain to not only include the Western River Expedition but maybe build a restaurant that looks like you're in a desert cave called Thunder Cavern Cafe and rework Thunder Railroad to go through the restaurant.

Disney history is so deep, I thought I knew all of the major projects but I had never even heard of this! And it sounds like it was huge! What a shame this was never completed. To have more of Marc Davis's work in the world would be such a treasure.
This land would have blown away anything else at the time and changed the theme park game way back in the 70s. I feel like in some ways they are just starting to reach the same level of immersiveness again with the more recent projects in Cars Land, Animal Kingdom, some of the overseas parks, and of course the upcoming Galaxy's Edge.
And all due to a gas shortage, it's really too bad. I'm just thankful they were able to keep going with Epcot.
Definitely, I would rather have this than Pirates! Pirates is great but you can always go to California for that. :-) This would have been unique and original.
At least they ended up using some of these ideas in other rides--I love that Disney never throws away a good idea. Think of how great Thunder Mountain is and imagine a whole land built around it!
Anyway, thanks again. I just found your channel and really liked the format of making it look like an old TV show. You should definitely have more subscribers my friend!

It’s a shame we’ve never seen one of those “one ride structure multiple rides” things, like this.

    • @alskndlaskndal
      @alskndlaskndal 6 лет назад +2

Yes! That is such a cool idea. I wonder why they've never used it in other lands.

I've heard so much about this expansion, but some of those details are new. Makes me wish more and more it had happened.

Imagine if instead of splash mountain they gave that ride the cowboy theme. 2 water rides pirates and the log flume western river expedition + tony baxter’s runaway mine car. It could have worked

Since you did Thunder Mesa, maybe you should do the original Indiana Jones concept.

I have been watching some of the history land videos reaction I kind of do a retro-looking theme to the opening of them.

I feel like that could've really worked, and in some way the time we've gotten with Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Big Thunder Ranch Mountain to enjoy it anyway.

The first few times I went to WDW as a boy they were still announcing the Western River Expedition and had a diorama model of a scene set up. I wonder what happened to it.

It opened in December 1973, not April 1983. You’re thinking of Tokyo Disneyland.

This is wrong because I went to WDW in 1981 and pirates of the Caribbean was open then! OK, see others have pointed this out, opened 1973 :)

Think western might still be around just changed. Red Dead Redemption 2 is released soon and movies like will smiths Wild Wild West. There still around just changed. Maybe time to think about a change of the land to match?

What am I going to do with all of these pictures of me when I was four in 1975 getting ready to ride Pirates at WDW? Has my life been a complete lie? I suppose so.

It’s magic kingdom. They could have had both.
