Historyland is dedicated to and inspired by Walt Disney's original television show: The Wonderful World of Color/Disney, and most of all: the families who sat in awe at what Walt showcased each week. Historyland is meant to be a homage to those vintage aesthetics, while at the same time putting a twist on the contemporary internet video essay.
Tomorrowland, and what that represented within Walt's vision of the future, has fascinated me since I was a child. You capture the spirit of that dream perfectly here.
Thank you :')
Even with all the Tomorrowland theming shenanigans, Space Mountain has always been a shining constant that still manages to draw me in to this day. Great video as always! Wouldn’t expect any less
Wow Matt, this episode was absolutely fantastic! There's so much history and so much detail in this episode, and lemme tell you, that new intro gets me super pumped for the episode! Well done.
You know what, this is gotta to be the best historyland video and your best video yet. Well done Matt!
Thank you :)
You have such a great channel. I love your show. I love how you make your channel retro. I'm 43 and really love the 80's vibe and commercials you throw in. This is my Disney experience!
This one is one of my favorites... Hope you all enjoy! Comment your thought on the video down below!
The video could use more narration in parts. Just seems like a bunch of clips added together. It needs to be smoother like in some of the other videos you have done.
Gotta say I love how you did this episode about Space Mountain. And how it was back in the days when Walt Disney himself was still alive. I really love the 1960s look and sound you did. Thank you for sharing this for all to see and enjoy.
I am 37 and never made a video in my life but your videos really make me want to take a leap and try and make something like this. Keep up the good
Work !!!!!!
Matt, your attention to detail, high level of editing and tons of great narration are all incredible. This is one for the vault of Walt!
DreamersEmpire Thank you 😁
The intro was timed perfectly: Sunday night--50 years ago to the minute I would have seenthe almost exact castle, Tinkerbell and the splotches of paint...
I love the opening! It gets me excited for the episode!!!
My goodness Matt!!! You're videos are SO professional that it's like watching a regular full-budget tv show! You are too good for RUclips Sir! I am so impressed by Vol. 3 that it's not even funny!
Your vids just keep getting better and better. Really nice job timing the scene cuts to the music.
I really love these new, longer and more detailed videos. Keep it up!
Hey Matt, I've just discovered these old historyland videos. This is brilliant.. really enjoyed the story of space mountain!
Alex the Historian is great, but you’re channel is going to be massive, I love all the commercials you put in the middle and the retro effects make you’re videos amazing 👍🏼
You seriously pop my Disney cherry every time I watch your videos. Its..... insane LOL
Absolutely fantastic brother and great job on the editing , I love how much information you put in your videos so glad to be a part of this journey!!!
True Space Mountain fans know about the "cookie" I must see it again!
That was really good. I absolutely enjoyed it. Thanks for making this video, it was inspiring.
Great video Matt!! I loved every second of it, and it captivated me from the very beginning. I can tell this was very thought out and i loved the editing; from the vintage footage to the background music, this was an amazing video. Can’t wait for the rest of Historyland vol 3! Keep up the good work bro
Thank you :)
I remember the opening of Space Mountain @ DL in 1977 -- I was eleven and at the park alone (I lived nearby and kids could be on their own at that age before the paranoid soccer moms ruined childhood for everyone). It was something like $10-12 dollars for a "junior" entrance pass and I had Magic Kingdom Club passes (my dad was a cop so we got those a few times a year). So for $20 I could ride the bus to the park (OCTD route 50 for $0.50 each way) and have enough money over for a cheap meal like a hot dog and coke.
It was Memorial Day weekend and the line STARTED at the Bank of America by the Main Street Train Station -- the line was over 6 HOURS long. and wound all the way down Main Street and back and forth along the Tomorrowland Mall then around the base of the original Space Mountain Speedramp to the upper deck overlooking the Space State and it zig-zagged across the entire upper deck area.
You had to make friends with those around you in line so you could go the to bathroom and go get food.
That was REALLY good episode!!! I can’t wait for more!!!❤️👍🏻
i'm just glad wdw's space mountain never got any overlays. that one's the original and i don't really want to see overlays on the original. [ghost galaxy seems really cool though i actually wouldn't mind that since it would only be for a month anyway]
Agreed...however, new cars with audio would be pretty cool.
do disneyland's cars have audio? at wdw we just have speakers around the track.
Yeah they have speakers built into the cars.
memethyst Wow, you really need to watch a Space Mountain Disneyland POV. The on board audio is one of the best things about the ride.
Actually WDWs space mountain now has an overlay. It’s at Halloween and it’s called deep space mountain
Are you kidding me you need your own actual tv or Netflix show. Like now! Great work dude! That intro !!!
Thank you 😁
Love it! ❤️
I love everything about this video. The editing and music is fantastic, and Space Mountain is one of my favorite rides, and a trip to Disneyland isn't completed unless I ride it a couple of times
Beautiful video. Your work just gets better and better. Awesome!
Best episode so far! Excited to see your channel take off.
Really good work. I like that you are allowing yourself to be more insightful and upping the production value while keeping the sense of humor. This is a vast improvement to something which was already very well done.
Matterhorn Matt! I just love your channel! You do a phenomenal job! Keep it up!
Thank you 💙
Yes, I have now watched it! Guilt is gone. xD
You are an Incredible filmmaker Matt. I was blown away by just the intro!
Thank you! 😁
this is a certified awesome video. thank you for teaching me about the history of the ride I hold so dear to my heart!
just visited WDW this past week, and they had the halloween overlay for space mountain which in my opinion was the most intense experience there. The crazy part is all they do is turn the lights off and play opera music in your ear. Flying headfirst at 50+ mph in pitch darkness is a horrifying/thrilling experience that easily beat TOT in terms of thrill rides imho.
Your are really developing as a commentator/historian.
Nice intro. It felt like I was a kid watching a Disney show again. (the scenes from DCA notwithstanding)
Very nice episode with good theoretical input!
Good job Matt!
Just got the notification. I know this is gonna be a good one!
Excellent! ! 👌👌👌
Hyperspace mountain isn’t permanent in Paris. I think behind the scenes they are making mission 3 and until it’s done they have hyperspace mountain.
Thank u
...that ad for Disneyland Paris's Space Mountain is weird: it completely ignores the theming of the ride!
Nice!
Well as rick flair would say.... space mountain might be the oldest ride in the park but it still has the longest lines. Whoooooooooo! Limo riding.... jet fling..... sorry 80s and early 90s flash back. Anyway great video
I'm sorry to hear about your incident, may I recommend making a thunder mountain video. That may help you
Great video, just hope they reburb it to use the screens or some projections to make it a grand galaxy and not a empty shell, and bring back space mountain tv,and that sweeeeeet scalator
Hey Matt, That last bit that you talked about John Hench talking about "Play." Do you recall where you read/saw that I would love to learn more. Thanks
It's in his book about theme park design: "Designing Disney: Imagineering and the Art of the Show"
Mattastic!!!
Do you think Disney should have a meet and greet section with Ant-Man, Ghost and The Wasp in DCA?
Still looking for a GOOD Space Mountain 3d model to print...
Space mountain Disneyland is the best
You will often find me loitering in the star tunnels listening to the music. I love space mountain and i have ridden the wdw, california and paris versions. I love all the versions and each has its little nuances. However the change to hyperspace mountain in paris is awful, just awful. I can't believe its permanent.
MrDirkles I kinda like it because it felt more exhilarating
Sam Frost do you mean the Paris overlay?
MrDirkles Yeah
What was the movie at the beginning of the video?
It's from the Disneyland TV show, episode "Man and the Moon" :)
9:00 What is that background song? I've heard that tune so many times but I still can't find it.
Bacn I’m p sure it’s Nation on Wheels from peoplemover!
You nailed it! Many thanks!~
you've probably heard the tune because it's on the tomorrowland loop
this version right here: ruclips.net/video/R7uIqkFHWTw/видео.htmlm54s
The main place I've actually heard it was on my old copy of Walt Disney World Explorer, which was super my jam back when I was a youngling. I hadn't seen this version of the Tomorrowland loop before and I thank you very much for bringing it to my attention.~
My bucket list is to ride the one in Paris. I've enjoyed both DL & WDW versions. I've never been on the "overlay versions" There is also a wonderful "mystic" to the attraction. Many claim the "state side" versions go "upside down" LOL The corkscrew & vertical loop would NOT have been in operation until 1975 & 76 in non-Disney parks, but both in southern California. Yes, attractions "to be successful must "update" to remain relevant to their audience. The other reason SM was done indoors is because of the unexpected "cloud bursts" that sometimes bedevil the Florida park.
I also often see people insisting (incorrectly) that the dark backwards helix on Expedition Everest has inversions in it.
Captain EO
I'll make this short and sweet...absolute perfection!!!
"Why can't we have a Space Mountain ride?"
"Uh... Okay, Walt. Space is inside a mountain. Whatever you say."
It makes so much more sense now...
...if Walt had lived, they'd probably have shown him the blueprints and he'd say "What, Space Mountain? What does that mean? I never said that!"
its going to be sad the day the close the submarine. bound to happen
I like my pet fish
that montage is so sexy
Early
Your lack of startunnel is disturbing
Actually, we included it! It's a version that isn't heard today, but it's there!
