    I was one of those kids that LOVED the ‘98 Tomorrowland. The Rocket Rods were super fun and added a lot of futuristic noise and energy. The Innoventions future house was really cool because you could imagine living in Tomorrowland.

    Tomorrowland is a perfect analogy for the future. It shows that the future never turns out they way you thought, and things you love inevitably disappear! Yeah, I too miss the peoplemover!,...as well as many other rides! 😕

    I remember how fun tomorrow land was the first time I went to the park - but these days it seems to just be an afterthought - like they just aren't sure what to do with it....really love seeing the old commercials! would there be enough content to possibly have a 2nd channel for just retro Disney commercials? would love to see the oldest commercial you can find if that would be possible Matt! :) as for t-shirts - I would be interested in a t that would have a retro look to it you know? love your discussions with Alex!

    The Tomorrowland of 1967 would have stood the test of time better than the Tomorrowland of 1998 since the styles and aesthetics of the 1960’s stood the test of time better than anything else and honestly the Tomorrowland of 1967 looks more modern and streamlined compared to the Tomorrowland of 1998.

    I know this runs counter to the basic premise of Tomorrowland but I'd like to see a retro Tomorrowland. As it was when I was a kid in the the 80's. New track for the Peoplemover, the Astro jets up high again and the old Innovations bldg host some sort of new rotating ride.

    I do applaud Matt Ouimet for doing his best to fix Michael Eisner's mess, I think that if the Peoplemover cars had been painted silver and bronze to match the theme it would have worked and been cheaper than buying new ride vesicles.

    I wish they would bring the people mover back, or at least something like it. I think people would really enjoy it, and bring people over. Also, there needs to be something new where innoventions used to be. At this point, it's just taking up space. There's plenty of room in there to add a new e ticket ride. I think they should have agreed on placing a tron ride inside of it. Even though the movies aren't very popular, it wouldn't matter if they can give us an amazing ride experience. At this point though, any type of attraction would be good there, they just need to come up with something other than a walkthrough.

      In order to bring the people mover back, they would have to replace the entire structure of the ride. The rocket rods ride was created to be fast at all times. Though in order to do that, they would need to rebuild the corners to handle the stress of the turns. Due to low budget, they decided to make it slow down around the corners instead. However, unfortunately the ride still caused cracks and structural damage to the track and beams. By converting it back to people mover or any ride would mean rebuilding the whole thing. I do miss the people mover as well though. Bring back the starcade as well! Disney world has a 3 story tall arcade, there is no excuse.

    • @Trainlover1995

      Had a three-story arcade. DisneyQuest is gone. A new attraction called the NBA Experience will replace it.

    Sadly today, Tomorrowland is a skeleton of what it used to be. I don’t understand why Disney has continued to let it exist in this state for as long as it has. They’ve revamped so much and built entire other lands all while Tomorrowland continues to decay.

  • @Sweet00thtkc
    @Sweet00thtkc 7 лет назад +4

    Everyone wants “something” on the PeopleMover track but we all know why that’s a huge problem. My idea was to add projectors and special effect lighting to the track to make the whole land really come alive at night. Like what they use during the fireworks and It’s A Small World Holiday. Add all kinds of spaceships, asteroids, aliens and other space stuff to the walls, ground, trees, rides and lagoon. You could make the Monorail look like it’s going through wormholes and have the Astro Orbiter shoot lasers! I’m sure the track could support it and it wouldn’t be that expensive.

  • @mattyg4186
    @mattyg4186 7 лет назад +4

    Disneyland Tomorrowland needs a major renovation or replacement of the people over track, a planned replacement of Star Tours if the closure rumors are true and move the Astro Orbiter to the location of the starlets like the Astro Orbiter Magic Kingdom, and lastly a new attraction in the show building of inoventions

    At Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, the unused PeopleMover / Rocket Rod track has been standing but not operating since Tuesday, September 26, 2000.
    By late July 2018, they could first remove the Rocket Rod observatron from the pylon and then remove all the old PeopleMover / Rocket Rod tracks between tearing down and rebuilding.
    Around 2021-2023, in Tomorrowland's above ground platform, as opposed to the old PeopleMover (1967-1995) & Rocket Rods (1998-2000), due to the possibility of people with wheelchairs or mobility scooters, instead of the New PeopleMover, we all know it could be Heathrow Pod Tour, it could be iMover, it could be Boxcar Tour or it could be a new ride with normal speed that is more comfortable than ever before.

      There are three things that I personally miss in tomorrowland from when I was a kid growing up there. 1. l loved the people mover, i would seriously pay double the ticket price if that is what it took to rebuild the ride with OSHA compliant infrastructure. 2. I hate that they moved the rocket jets to the front, its closer to the ground. When it was on top of the people mover it was awesome because you had this nervous anticipation of riding the elevator to the top and then when you got up there you were really high, the wind was blowing, it was scary up there and you could see most of the park when you rode the rocket jets. Now its like riding dumbo. 3. I love the old escalator to space mountain. It had an awesome design and look to it. I remember riding that escalator so many times with knots in my stomach knowing what was to come. I wish they would bring it back, just reroute the existing queue but let people initially enter up the cool futuristic escalator. None of that will every happen but I guess i have to hold onto my memories.

But while I know Disneyland Paris was a financial mistake and did not work as planned, it is one of my regional parks, and without it being here in Europe, I probably never would have set foot in a Disneyland park, and what shame would that have been.

    The 1800's/Jules Verne/Steampunk makeover was ridiculous and horrible... how come so may "futuristic visions" end up being a dystopian society regressed to pre-industrial-era America???

    Love seeing the old ads for DL. I too love Tomorrowland. It needs a STORY, and theming around that story. I thought that was going to happen when the movie Tomorrowland came out. There were scenes and props that showed potential for ride and animatronic development. But alas the movie was not a blockbuster and couldn't compete in popularity with Pixar or Marvel offerings. So Disney will slowly piece it out of existence, like Frontierland. Sad, very sad. They can come up with $60,000,000,000 to by Fox but can not dedicate $15,000,000 to give Frontierland new life.

    They need to build Edison/Tesla's Square parallel to Main Street. Create a queue line to Space Mountain there. Then demolish the rest of Tomorrowland and start over.
    Incorporate vertical farming techniques, water features, and transportation. Plan for future re-themes by mounting features that can be changed like they do with the castles.

    Even though Tomorrowland seems to have been neglected, it’s still my favorite part of Disneyland. I’m hoping that after Galaxy’s Edge opens, they shift their focus over to renovating Tomorrowland...especially the Peoplemover track. I don’t care if it’s a slow ride or not, it needs a revamp.

  • @heliattackpe
    @heliattackpe 7 лет назад

    I'd love to see a more innovative Tomorrowland with a focus on computers, robotics, and even how we're setting ourselves for a better tomorrow though that. Innovate Tron into it, electric vehicles, autonomous robots to interact with (something that'll help fuel the lack of characters the land has). It's a small space that has a lot of potential. And lastly, USE THE VERTICAL SPACE OF THE PEOPLE MOVER TRACK! With Star Wars Land opening, closing this area for renovations could happen since guest traffic will be focused elsewhere to hopefully fix up the structure.

    Several random comments. Interesting video!
    Third Man on the Mountain was one of my first and favourite Disney films of all-time. It was (apocryphally) the sole inspiration for a Matterhorn in Disneyland. I theorize the initial inspiration came from Walt's visits to Tivoli Garden (the first theme park), which is as magical at night as Disneyland AND has a great Alpine themed rollercoaster ride with a Matterhorn-like peak. I personally prefer the Tivoli ride because it nostalgically reminds me of the old Matterhorn bobsled ride which seemed more rickety and thrilling, a real E-ticket, if you will. Back in the day, it was the only semi water flume ride on hot SoCal days. Imagine wearing lederhosen all day in 90 degree heat, eww.

      No more jules verne stuff, there are some very smart imagineers working there. The imagineers back in the 50's did a good job thinking of what the future was going to be like. Maybe build a ride like Walle, where we all ride around in pods with everything being done for us. There are some really smart people that disney needs to tap into for ideas. They can't try to put something quick and cheap out there; otherwise it will end up they way California adventure did and they will spend more money later trying to fix it.

      I've never even heard of Tomorrowland 1998 until now, great video. As for what I'd like to see for the future of Tomorrowland, I'd like to see a future noir style, Blade Runner feel. Not saying this would be the best idea but just imagine a "dark" Tomorrowland with neon lights, hologram displays, shady characters, etc. This would probably be more suited for Disneyland Japan, but still would be neat to see!

    I went on Rocket Rods the first week it opened, we waited in line for 4 hours. I had to go to the bathroom so my mom took me out of line and when we got back, they let us ride the ride, then we went through the line looking for my bother and dad, and they let us ride it again. So two rides for 4 hours of waiting, not too shabby! I was only about 10 or 11 but it was a really awesome ride. Lots of going very fast then slowing for turns, but it was still fun. Bummed that the track isn't sturdy enough to put another ride there again!
