    As doctor passionate about skin care that delivers results I want to help you quickly and efficiently pick a skin care regime that works, by explaining the science behind skin and by sharing quick product reviews.
    I am a big believer that creating a skincare routine that targets your specific concerns is not a matter of your budget. There are many great affordable brands out there: The Inkey List, Good Molecules, Geek & Gorgeous or pixi skincare to name a few of my favorites, and if you know how to combine them, you are well on your way to healthy and happy skin.
    Healthy and happy skin does not mean "flawless" - whatever that might be. I have been struggling with acne, hyperpigmentation and postinflammatory erythema (PIH and PIE) for most of my adult life, and it took me a while to figure out that gentle is key. I went through a retinol damaged skin barrier, acne flare ups and sun damage until I finally reached my happy place: With Tretinoin, sunscreen and of course a red lipstick!

    Hi dr. Anne! I really enjoy watching your reviews! I am 49 and only now started using retinols ( since February thus year) started with a retinol 0,3% from SVR. Lovely formula, but even at this strength took me good 2 months to get used to it. Now I switch to g&g A game 10 and loving it. Now I literally became a skincare freak and results are mire than visible. Thanks to your channel and channels like yours have learned a lot. Thanks and please continue with what you're doing 😉

I've been using the medik8 cr 1, then 3, and now am looking for its alternative due to the high price. Great video, no ‘fluff’, straight to the point and informative. I’m currently using Medik8 Crystal 3 and am about to start Medik8 6, but so so expensive. I’ve watched a few videos now which have been very positive about the Geek and Gorgeous A-Game retinals. I think I am going to switch to the A-Game 10 after I’ve finished the Medik8 6, as it is more economical for continuing. So, thank you very much for highlighting this brand.

    Hi dr Anne.You are so calm when you talk and so informative and to the point.I wanted to ask you something.I use tretinoin 0.05 but in my country it is discontinued and cant find it anymore in pharmacies.It was also very cheap.I used it for 2 years.I would like now to use the geakand gorgeous 10 just for antiaging.I am 44 with tough skin.Will this be beneficial as the tretinoin?Also can this be used around the eye area?I could use tret around eyes without a problem.Thanks

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 года назад +3

      Tretinoin is stronger, so it is hard to say if it will be as beneficial for the skin as that one was if you only use it for anti-aging. Tretinoin is mainly used for acne, and Retinal would most likely not be enough for that, but with anti-aging it might have comparable effects with continuous use.
      Just like Tretinoin I would not recommend to use it around the eyes, but as you tolerated the Tret well there, you might be able to pull it off.

    Thanks for the review Dr Anne. I started with the A Game 10 as my skin couldn’t tolerate Tretinoin and after seeing Dr Dray saying it shouldn’t be too much of a difference in potency I decided to purchase the A game 5 instead as it is cheaper and my skin is quite sensitive. I’m using it more for well-aging and prevention on the long run than anything else as I don’t have acne. Not tried it yet but heard the texture is much nicer than the stronger version, so let’s see!

    • @DoctorAnne

      49, no acne issues as well. Also started using LPosey's retinol 0.3, as of November 2021. Tip from my longtime dermatologist, if one does not have serious skin issues (which require medical point of view as well), there's no need for harsher actives on the skin. Patience and consistency are always the key. The end result - a healthy skin. Have been seeing so many both, young people and my generation literally stripping their skin to rush the process of what ever issue is in question. I will give a try to this brand and a bit stronger version of vit A than retinol

    Dear Dr. Anne, I want to turn to you again with my new dilemma: My mom is over 50, and after my discovery of retinoids it is obvious that I would like to introduce her to it as well. I was very inspired by the video with your sister, as even my mother has almost no experience with skincare and has ample hyperpigmentation. I was surprised that she started right away with retinal A-Game 10 (evening) + vitamin C (morning), as both are strong active ingredients. Could I "prescribe" such a skincare routine for my mother too? :)) Again, thank you very much for all your RUclips content and your effort. Hope you are doing well!

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 года назад +6

      I think it should work - if your mothers skin is more on the reactive side, she could use A-Game 5. i gave that one to my other sister, who has more sensitive skin (and less hyperpigmentation). The key will be sunscreen though, and introducing it slowly - we didn't start with every night, but slowly build up. Once that routine is working well, you could add an AHA once a week.
      I was able to custom make this routine for my sister because I know her and her skin well, so the routine for your mother might need to be adapted.

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 года назад +1

      That is best discussed with your dermatologist - why did they not prescribe Tretinoin? Do they think you don't need it? Do they think something else will work better? These are important questions and only your treating doctor can answer them.

    I have always thought Retinal gives a much lesser irritation? I have used tretinoin for years but use the retinal from medik8 around my eyes and neck or on some days that I just skip tretinoin mainly if my skin feels dry that night. I’ve never had good results from retinol it’s always irritated my skin I’m excited to try the geek and gorgeous though! • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 года назад +1

      Retinal is one step closer to Retin A , so it has more potential for irritation than retinol. It is less irritating than Tretinoin though. But it usually comes down to formulation and concentration, so far no one I recommended it to has reported irritation from this one here (introduced slowly obviously).
      Thank you for the Beauty of Joseon recommendation, I will see if I can get it.

    If my skin has become accustomed to OLAY retinol and neutrogenin retinol, do you think it is safe to switch to GEEK's 0.05 retinal and after getting used to switching to 0.01 concentration? Another question - I have sensitive skin to retinol in the neck, should I switch to azalic acid in the neck instead of retinol? I will also take your recommendation to apply niacinamide before applying retinel I might as well apply before retinol if it prevents irritation. I know that it is recommended to apply moisturizer before those who have sensitive skin regarding all derivatives of retinol. 0.05 Is this the lowest concentration of retinal? Sorry if you said that and I did not understand you I just do not speak English (:

    • @DoctorAnne
      @DoctorAnne  2 года назад +2

      Okay, let me answer one after the other:
      1. Yes, if your skin tolerates the Olay and Neutrogena one, you can switch to the 0,05 Retinal.
      2. If your neck doesn't tolerate retinol, try using something else or, that would be my first approach, try using the retinol less frequently.
      3. Niacinamide is great and a moisturizer before is also a good idea if you have sensitive skin.
      4. 0,05% is the lowest concentration Geek & Gorgeous offer, other brands might have even less, but usually 0,05% is what I would start with.
      5. And no worries :)

    I did like the retinal but I think the stand out product from the brand is C-Glow. I used A-Game 5 for about 9 months, experiencing no irritation and using AHAs right before applying it with no issue. But I am in the boat of being able to tolerate tretinoin pretty well and as such seeing no use in purchasing any retinol/-al products. But I like LRP Redermic more than the G&G product - it has an immediate smoothing effect, it feels more intense, and I think the packaging is more attractive. 12 month shelf life too but a really old fashioned fragrance. I think both options would be good for people who aren’t used to retinoids. I think the G&G is much better than The Inkey List. But tretinoin and adapalene are an entirely different class. Like comparing a store manager to the CEO of the chain.
    I do think G&G buy from the same supplier as Medik8 but of course how they formulate with the raw ingredients once they have them matters. But I think Avene Retrinal is cheaper than Medik8 Crystal 10, so I would choose that one, if I ever felt like spending $70 on a retinaldehyde product

    Hello 👋 thanks for the video. I was curious to see the review because I’m a big fan of G&G 😍
    I tried first the A game 5 and after 2 bottles I switched to the A game 10 because it’s more concentrated. I had no problem using both serums and didn’t notice a difference in texture of the A game 5 compared to the A game 10 🤔 I’ll try to compare them side by side ( I still have both because the new A game 10 arrived when I was still using the A game 5).
    I use it on my face, neck, above my hands and one in a while around my eyes (I’m now finishing a retinal crème from avene but as the concentration of retinal there is low, I want to switch to a higher concentration afterwards). You read that the skin around the eyes is sensitive etc but I don’t have this problem apparently. I tried because on RUclips you see different comments like some people have eyes that are more sensitive than the face but for others it’s the complete opposite. Or for some persons, the face and eyes are ok but the neck is sensitive…. I would say try it and see how your eyes react because your eyes show your age first thus it would be a shame not to try it.
    NB I use first the FECC from Niod on my eyes. It’s a kind of oily serum thus maybe it has a “protective” effect ?
    Regarding the A game, I use first a copper peptide serum (the ordinary or CAIS depending on my budget) then the serum stressless of G&G or B Bomb (with niacinamide) then the A game then an moisturiser. I saw that my skin was a little bit dryer using the A game so most of the time I use the Cicaplast B5 from La Roche Posay as moisturiser/ night cream. It doesn’t cost a lot and my skin is super hydrated and soft in the morning.

    I should probably tell you my skin type and concerns.
    I have mature skin(I'm 56), that is combination, very prone to breakouts/congestion that can be sensitive if a product is to harsh for my skin or if my skin barrier isn't up to par.
    I would like to address wrinkles, prevent breakouts, improve the texture of my skin and protect my skin barrier.
