I’ve used another retinAl 0,1 for 9 months and consider myself a newbie as I still get an occasional reaction, at which point I take a step back and have a few days’ rest. On most weeks though I use RA on 5-7 nights. About 10 days ago I introduced G&G 0,1 for the first time and it was all roses until I heard your review and read some of the comments here. I got suspicions. Have I been fooled, is it too cheap to be true etc.? And then lo and behold tonight, there’s redness on my neck, stinginess, rash-like patches. So by analogy, am I to declare G&G a real deal cause of my neck irritation? Of course I can’t do that. Just offering some reassurance to whoever is reading this, the said product does give sores to some of us🤕
And in support of what another commentator said, I’m running out of it super quickly (no, not using too much of it).
While i haven't tried GnG, i feel this is not a fair assessment of the product.
1. Your own skin as you stated has already plateaued from using tret, and tret is stronger than retinal, so it's pretty understandable that you won't be able to observe any differences on yourself, but that doesn't mean an OTC product like the GnG isn't effective.
2. It would have made more sense if you had your friend tried another proven product with retinal and see his reactions. Retinol is more irritating than retinal, comparing them is almost like comparing apples & oranges. Just because he got the peeling & irritation from the Revitalift doesn't say anything about the effectacy of the A-Game. I hope you would consider doing a retest with your friend using two similar retinal products instead. Thank you for the video though.
1- i never mentioned that OTC retinoids are not going to work, formulating a retinal product is not an easy task, that is why they are expensive, a lot of the cost goes to enhance the stability of the product. ( This from my experience with being consulted by brands that make retinoids products). Also for me if it was effective and well stabilized it would have maintained my results but my skin congestion started to creep back.
2- regarding retinal being gentler than retinol, the evidence is not favoring one over the other for example (PMID:10473963) showed that with retinol TEWL is reduced compared to retinal and retinoic acid, also Retinoic acid and retinal produced more scaling of the skin, so it depends on formulation, most retinal products are encapsulated due stability issues and that give the retinal the illusion it's less irritating than retinol (that's an unfair comparison in my opinion)
3- lastly the message and experiences of my community were overwhelmingly showing some lack of efficacy for this product, some saw results and even some consider it strong but the majority were like no effects or minimal effects.

@@Moskinlab Mo I have to say by experience retinaldehyde is far less irritating than retinol. I have used several retinaldehyde brands G&G, Naturium, Medik 8 I can use all of these under my eye at 0.1% and can not use 0.5% retinal close to my eyes. However the G&G gave me the least result.

However, the G&G gave me the least effective result so I think their encapsulation may not be as good. But I don't agree with that because it's gentle it is not effective.

Welcome back! Same feedback type from my R newbie friend with dry skin. I’m going to change in a week from G&G to a different retinal that’s supposedly a lower RA%. How would you go about testing if it’s a bioavailability or stability issue ?
Thank you ❤️, that's a tricky question, because if your skin is used to retinoids and you tried something new, figuring out efficacy with testing the product will be limited to sustaining the results you achieved so far with previous products, like controlled skin texture, pore appearance or congestion, unfortunately this is the only way to test for people used to retinoids or have been using for a while.
About the colour and which you may know… do you know if RA changes colour as it breaks down? is there a chance for the yellow to be an added colour to give the impression of it being effective? I have a pharmacy prepared tret and the colour is more beige nowhere near as yellow. And tried other RAs from medik8 and AOS with nowhere near as dark hue. I wonder as well if the side effects your friend experienced were more retinol specific rather than Retinal? Would you put your friend on a different retinal to compare the same compounds ? 😅
That's true and good observation, encapsulation can play a role in color changing of the final formula, the efficacy of the encapsulation and how efficient it is, is critical as well, i really want to make video about encapsulation and explain how efficacy of encapsulation is something brand don't share but it's really important.
Interesting! I did not expect this from G&G, although they are a small brand and formulating is so hard. Lab muffin once stated that some retinals are capsulated so well that they do not even reach the skin, maybe that is what happened? It makes it hard to choose a retinaldehyde product!
I am curious if you have used the Theramid Clinical Vitamin A Serum and what you think. It is not just retinal, but also retinol and granactive retinoid.
I love the brand and already reviewed a few of their products and i love them all but this one is giving me mixed feelings i want to love it but efficacy wise it needs more answers, that's an interesting point from Michelle i need to look that up for sure. I have their new retinoids product the white one, forgot the name 🤣 but will be testing ot soon

Interesting. I normally have really dry sensitive skin which lets me know quickly when something is wrong. I started using retinol a couple of years ago with the Ordinary granactive retinol. Then i moved to a retinol product (cant remember which!) And then to this product. My skin has NEVER reacted. Maybe because i have gone quite slowly and also been working on my skin barrier too...
Ive got rhe 0.5% COSRX retinol next, and I'm really liking this brand (their vitamin c is the only one that doesn't upset my skin).

I have exact the samen experience with this product. I have combo skin that is not overly sensitive, but now and then reacts to actives. I started using A313 retinol in november 2023 super slow, because of the known side effects and they were definitely there! Not dry skin, but itching and burning like the first month. Then 1 month later I got the A game 10 because I hated the A313. And then nothing!! I was so surprised, I expected something anything! So maybe it is not stabilized or the dosage is really low, who knows.

Absolutely the same experience with this retinal. No effects, and honestly, no difference to the skin. And I’ve FELT The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid at 2% that I used prior to this. I will be switching to the Ordinary new retinal 0.2% and see how that goes. Thank you for the video, usually people just sing songs about how great this product is, your video is realistic. Merci.
Another q regarding R-ol/-a. Could it be that brands want to bypass the changes in regulations on retinol % by selling Retinal and maybe rushed the stabilisation ?!
I think this product already existed before the new retinol regulations, and G&G doesn't have a 1% retinol product that would need substitution.
But I can see that happening with other brands, for sure
Retinal was not included in the latest regulations updates and restrictions so the brand had nothing to fear 😶🌫️
Yep but I see how lots of brands come up with retinal and no retinol because it is more effective, but at the same time only retinol % were capped at 0.3 by the regulations, nothing about retinal.
I've used this product and the main issue with it was the fact that I ran out of it super quickly. I've been using retinoids for over two years now and considering that the amount of product you should apply is very minimal and also typically we don't use retinoids everyday (or at least I don't, I use it approximately 3-4 times a week) for me retinoids usually last about 4-5 months. With A-game i didn't even get to three months and it's not like I've been using it any different than other products. I don't what is it with this formula, but if i had to buy a new bottle every two months, it doesn't seem to be that affordable any more... And considering what you talked about in this video I'm just reassured that it's just simply not worth my hard earned money.

I would advise you to use half a pump instead of a full pump. Half is enough for a full face. What I found is that a full pump is more than peasize and I use a full pump only when I will be going over my neck and decolletage which is not always (depending on my pijamas).
Thank you for explnation! My experience with G&G started after using retinoids for 6 months, so my skin didn't accumulate all the benefits of this magical ingredient yet 😁. This was the third month of using retinal in particular. I saw some benefits for about a month; however, I assumed that was a result of discontinuing the previous retinal product, rather than the work of G&G. I used Avene Cleanance, which contained an enormous amount of fragrance, and the base slightly clogged my pores. As a result, my skin became irritated, had some comedones, and acne appeared. Why do I think that G&G didn't work? Because even with Avene, I noticed plumpness, significant reduction in pore size, and pimples were not painful and disappeared quite quickly... Let me remind you that Avene irritated the skin and clogged pores 🤣
Yeah the mix views regarding this product is making me more skeptical of its effectiveness, thank you for watching, commenting and sharing your experience 🤗🤗🤗
I started using this exact product last week, after finishing the 0.05 one.
After listening to chemist confessions podcast last month about retinal, I got very sad that I probably have been using an ineffective product 😢
I reached out to G&G to ask about the stabilization and they replied, but I can't really judge their answer, I don't know if their method is good or bad 😅
Anyway, I decided to use it alternating with the retinol 1% that I was using before
Yeah unfortunately we can't find a stratifying answer, their other products are really nice but this one gave me mixed feelings regarding efficacy 😩 so i would consider it a super beginners friendly option and not an upgrade

It's encapsulated retinal, I think in cyclodextrin (not sure) but it might be why your friend didn't feel the burning sensation
I sell this product and have some clients that find the A game to be pretty strong!
But maybe it’s because they use a lot of other actives

Ouch Mo! This hurts 😭...I've been using this product for years, ever since it came out, and hearing what you say makes me feel like an idiot in the first place, and I feel cheated...even though I don't know you personally I trust you blindly and, although there is the benefit of the doubt, I don't think I will order it again at this point. It's like mourning because, as I was saying, I have relied on this product for many years and it is one of the few that I can afford... and now? What do I do? Any advice that isn't too expensive?
I am so sorry 😩 please don't take this video as the ultimate truth, people's skins are different and the reaction to different products can vary a lot, if this product works well for you and noticed results then keep using and enjoy it, it's a nice formula, very emollient and nice but my issue is the results for me and a friend it didn't perform as expected but if it does for you then keep using it please ❤️
It’s ok, but it’s not Medik8 :( Can you review the one from Beauty of Joseon? At least I felt that one on my skin 😂But not sure that I trust it.

I agree it is not as effective as Medik 8. But retinaldehyde is always gentler than retinol at low, medium and high strength. I find Naturium more effective than Geek and Gorgeous. Like Mo, I use tretinoin as well. But due to sensitivity, I can only use it two days a week so use retinaldehyde 4 days a week. I hope to get to 3 days a week for both.
