I've always wanted the Surface laptop but for what I do it's just not powerful enough so I grabbed a Legion. I feel Lenovo has been giving us what Mac to windows users really want.
Thanks for the review Matthew! That's really a bad result for the battery. Jarrod used the intel version with a 99.9Wh battery and got 10+ hrs on the RUclips playback test. Despite the 18Wh difference, I didn't expect the battery to be so bad, especially on an all-AMD device. Pity, I was actually focused on getting this mainly for the battery!
You have to understand that JarrodTech's battery test is a "benchmark" for comparison purpose, whereas Matthew measures real-world runtime. You can expect the Intel version to get much less battery life than AMD Advantage, given that both are configured or modified to have 99Wh capacities. EDIT: I am aware of the regional variation. The assumption is that the user will replace the 71Wh with 99Wh battery after purchase. My point is that 3-4 hours is very much within normal range for a Intel 12 Gen H-series CPU, even while just performing light tasks.
YT playback is the best case scenario so is not really instructive as to real world use. I usually half that and that would be a ball park figure. So 5hrs SoT doing office stuff, social media, browsing; less if you game or use pro apps, and more if you are watching videos. Not very good is the short answer, at least compared to some alternatives.
I think he's got a problem with his device. Braxton's review of the same device with the same 71Wh battery got 6 hours of mixed usage and 8.5h of RUclips Playback. I think Matthew might have a driver problem or something, there is no way that laptop only gets 3 hours lol. Also check the best buy reviews, everyone else is getting around 6-8 hours with mixed usage.

If it weren't for soldered memory I'd definitely get this. Funnily the only thin and light that can be fully upgraded is the TUF Dash F15 2022. Memory isn't as soldered as previous gen. But a lot of thin and light is either one soldered or flip motherboard. At least we have more options this time around.
@Juri V I dunno. Before their GPU gets not supported it'll pretty much will last at a least 10 years if nothing is much at fault. The biggest factor to determine their longevity is how long the GPU will be supported.
In my case, i wouldn't mind the soldered ram coz 16 is plenty for me. My only issue was the single ssd slot. Wonder why did they decided to remove the extra slot when last year model had it just fine
True😂 This has been my issue when choosing laptops since 2015. What's made it worse when deciding & calculating the cost for component upgrades like the RAM and/or storage, is that the game that I've been playing the most for the last 5 years is Cities Skylines, fully modded. 😂😭
The size differences though makes you wonder this vs the g15 or m16 which are both lighter but might lose the premium feel. Though general prefer the keyboards on the Zephyrus series this year. Just a nice punch too them, Lenovo is second however.

8gb soldered and no option with 16gb soldered... do they know that some gaming laptops are being used by developers because of the full size arrows and silent cooling?....
Hey Matthew! Just wanted to say - your battery results seem really off. Other reviewers such as Braxton's review of the exact same device, and Best Buy customer reviews as well as people on the Lenovo Legion discord server, have been getting 2-3x as much battery life. I suspect you may have had a driver, BIOS, or similar issue, as I legitimately doubt that the Intel version of this device is 2.5x as efficient. I realise you probably won't be able to benchmark it again because of how reviews work, but it's really weird to see how your battery life is so much lower than what everyone else is saying
@@MatthewMoniz That would be awesome - maybe the test conditions were a little off, maybe a profile switched or a power plan had changed or something? Awesome review though, thanks!
i think you might be forgetting your 2021 slim 7 review was completely wrong just like this one is. The 2021 you tested in balanced mode and claimed the 3060 was trash when it was the best performing 3060 at 105w in any chassis out there and did NOT overheat or even get hot. This 2022 model however does get a lot hotter and gets to the thermal limits quite often though contrary to the review it also does not suffer from 3 hours battery life you can get G14 range battery from this machine in the 8-10 hour range amazingly well i dont think the time was taken to properly set up or maybe not even do the test and make stuff up lol. I know you have a hatred for the legion series but cut it some slack these slim 7s are better designed and implemented then the asus g14 15 and m16 line at the very least. 2023 looking to fall behind though sadly.

I haven't looked at the pinouts for SD vs Micro SD but given how the adapters work in phones I'm sure you would just have to trace wire directly
Matt - great content. How does this Legion Slim 7i/7 compare to Asus M16 (in Intel Configuration) and G15 (in AMD configurations), in terms of cooling, performance, and (estimated) longevity?
Ya the G14 runs hotter so its probably allowing temps to remain higher for longer hence the slightly extra performance in some games. I've had the G14 shut off on me for overheating whereas this guy did not

I laughed out loud when you said the webcam is not great overall while showing that horrendous image. I don't know how it's possible; i've literally watched hundreds of laptop reviews, maybe even over a thousand, and this is the worse 1080p-claimed webcam image I've ever seen! I honestly think that Lenovo fired the camera guy and let sticker guy and his new partner take care of the webcam software. It's sad because now those hard-working folks are paying less attention to the sticker placement, which was nearly questionable to begin with. Now both the stickers and webcam are a disaster. I find it quite odd that you say this laptop is a better version of the G14. While you can compare a 14” to a 16” in terms of temps, price or even specs, if the 16” slightly outperforms the 14” then it isn’t a “better version” imo. That’s quite unfair ! That being said, this iteration of the Legion looks like a solid choice

I'm planning to buy GALXY BOOK 2 PRO 360 and confused among HP ENVY X360 OLED, YOGA SLIM 7i OLED ...... my main oncern is battery lasting! Heard AMD laptops has good battery lasting, can you help me?
Bought an open box Lenovo Legion Slim 7 in April. It was getting hot already, which I already knee about. Had a spill accident that messed up the motherboard and various other components. Had the manufacturer warranty and the best buy geek squad warranty. I thought I got total tech but it turned out to be just full geek squad protection. So I tried going through Lenovo and after a month and a half of waiting, I called the facility in Texas (where they fix the machines). Lenovo said they fixed it but it would be $1400... I paid $989 and plus $200 for protection (Geek Squad) which was still less. I told them that was insane and to ship me back the machine overnight, which they did. I brought it to best buy and they took 2 and a half weeks but when I got it back it worked for a week and started getting really hot and eventually wouldn't fully boot. So I called Best Buy and set up an appointment with the stipulation that I'd be exchanging it or getting a refund. I went there Yesterday for an appointment at 6:40pm. I showed up prepped and early. Put all the original parts back in and carefully wiped down the machine and put it back in the box beforehand. When I got there, the woman behind the counter was already shutting some poor guy down about his return. I took a few deep breaths and I was ultra polite and calm after explaining everything, they told me I didn't actually have total tech, which we all thought was weird because I've got protection plans for literally every single item I've bought. So why wouldn't I do it for one of my most expensive purchases. They gave me a paper to sign and I could hear them talking quietly behind the plexiglass panel. I showed them the laptop and it was obvious that I was telling the truth. I showed them my billing history and they finally caved. So here's the best part, they asked me what I'd like to exchange for and I casually mentioned a couple laptops I'd narrowed down to after heavy research. I got an brand new $1900 upgraded Asus Rog Strix Advantage Edition was only $1300 in a 36 hour flash sale that was ending later that night. So I got a massively better, brand new laptop in exchange for a refurbished laptop with way less power and upgradeables. I just upgraded to 2tb SSD and 64gb Ram which makes the Strix Advantage Edition far more upgradeable. Please consider doing a review about the Asus Rog Strix G15 Advantage Edition, particularly with upgraded rap. It's insane.
@MatthewMoniz Hey. Is it still worth going for the 2021 model compared to the 6600s model? I can only get the WUXGA model before February, amazon has the older model with 2TB for around $80 more inclusive of taxes. So I am having trouble deciding. I can't game all that much and it's mostly gonna be for my studies. I can't make up my mind and tell my dad what to get on my own so I am asking for some advice. The other options like TUF A15 doesn't have a fingerprint reader, but I can get that one from mucrocenter for like $120 less, but would need to add another SSD just like if I get 6600s model of this from Lenovo. An advice would be much appreciated.

i think there was something wrong with his testing - other reviewers with the exact same model have been getting 6-8 hours mixed usage
@@RegorForgot they might doing their testing at a lower screen brightness.
@@Android.Paranormal i wouldn't say so. 3 hours out of this machine is practically unheard of from people who I know have bought it and used it
I laughed out loud when you said the webcam is not great overall while showing that horrendous image. Lenovo!! Use AMD's sticker guy for crying out loud. Stop trying to save a buck everywhere you can.
😂
Nobody uses Webcams. I'm 100% positive that they do focus groups and that's at the bottom of the list when it comes to features people value in a consumer laptop
@VanquishedAgain .. so many people these days work from home and they do meetings on zoom. Webcams have become really important recently.
@@bazzie85 absolutely. Nearly my entire department owns some sort of gaming laptop. the price here is where you start to get professionals that are using these as all-in-one solutions, not just something to supplement their already powerful desktop or for just web browsing. That being said, almost no one is going to travel with a dedicated webcam, but the quality of this built-in one is inexcusable.
@@VanquishedAgainthat may of been true a few years ago but during after covid webcams became very important as many people do work or school from home. When you buy a premium product like this you except to have decent quality
Is this worth getting over the lenovo slim 7 pro x?
Be careful choosing the model, according to Lenovo's own site, the Lenovo Slim Pro 7 14APH8 has soldered memory, so you can't upgrade it.
I'm thinking of replacing my 2017 13" MacBook pro for this laptop. I'm currently in architecture school and I need a computer that can run more programs than Mac and be way faster rendering 3D models and using indesign
It's a nice laptop. I prefer my X14 though :)
on the graphs in benchmark comparasion u highlighted asus g14 instead lenovo btw
ya i noticed no big deal
If you want the g14 but in a 15 inch laptop you could, I don't know, get the g15.
soldered ram?...landfill
The heat situation still boggles my mind! These temps up to 200+ F and stays in working condition is alien to me... How all those nano thick circuit board and micro sized circuit parts stays in tack without diffusing in that heat! I am telling you, it's alien... it's not us 😁👽 (Checked, hot irons can go from 300F to 400F... unless if you need to iron your pants, 200 seems like ok!)
Ya gaming laptops still run hot unfortunately! Hopefully we get better performance per watt with less heat in a few years.
you really like the battlenet launcher lol
I find it quite odd that you say this laptop is a better version of the G14. While you can compare a 14” to a 16” in terms of temps, price or even specs, if the 16” slightly outperforms the 14” then it isn’t a “better version” imo. That’s quite unfair !
That being said, this iteration of the Legion looks like a solid choice
Confirm only one m.2 2280 SSD slot? Lenovo is telling me it has an additional storage slot.
Goes to show how good a deal G14 is for $1099 right now.
I can't understand why laptop brands gave us soldered ram on board 😑
Anything to say how it relates to the 5i Pro you reviewed 5-6 months ago?
why the heck put the audio jack on the right side of the frame?? every headphone known to man has its cable coming from the left.
Do you think this would be good computer for college going into someone like technology?
do you think asus g14 vs lenovo s7 video would be worth it or not really? (it doesnt have to be from you but over all) is this laptop really just better in everything then g14? cuz i litteraly had these two laptops in shopping cart for over a week and i cant decide at all... (btw i would prop go for the 6600s or 6700s version so the lenovo laptop would be prop bit weaker then asus) if you could gimme some asus advantages that would be awesome (but idk if u can under this lenovo video)
I prefer this over the g14
G14 is lighter and smaller. s7 is preferable in other respects imo
How come the battery life got worsened this year?
The 2021 model could last twice as long as this one
i think there was something wrong with his testing - other reviewers with the exact same model have been getting 6-8 hours mixed usage
Please do a review on the legion 7i (2022)
This thing is $1950 at my location in NY using your link. Ugh.
ive got the 2021 17" model with 3060 for 850E in sale
Wich colour is this model please ? Onyx Grey or storm grey ?
The 1 bad thing is the intel version has more ports.. idk why tho
But the Razer Blade 15 2023 Fans are quieter or?
does the hdmi port support VR? Heard some laptops have it pipped from the cpu vs discrete gpu...
how is the battery performance
For the price is very good. Not perfect, but a great device.
Agreed!
I ordered the slim 7 amd version fully upgraded on lenovos website
R9 6900HX
24 gb ddr5 (8gb soldered + 16gb sodimm)
6800S
1 tb pcie
230w
All for 1550$ includ. Tax.
Hoping to get my hands on soon.
@@travelcrib2k596how is after this time
Which is best legion slim 7 amd ? or legion slim 7 intel ??
I’ve seen videos upgrading the RAM with an additional 32gb making it 40gb .. If DDR5 is already Dual Channel per stick, does this configuration means the soldered 8gb+8gb(from the 32gb) will run at Quad Channel and the remaining 16gb(of the 32gb) will be running at Dual Channel ??
Battery life matters a lot if I want to take it to school. Failure of a device for me if battery life is so low. Still G14 anyday for me
Hey Matthew do a comparison between Lenovo thinkbook 16p gen 3 and Lenovo legion slim 7 or 7i they do look similar
im looking for reviews of low end laptops, eg GTX 1650 / RTX 3050 for 500-700$. do you have a playlist that compares them? I've been watching jarrod's tech but he only gets the high end laptops to review
Should I get this over a MacBook Pro m1 with 10 core cpu and 16 core gpu ( 32gb ram )
Where can we find the wallpaper?
plz unbox legion 7 amd 6700m model plz
I'm planning to buy GALXY BOOK 2 PRO 360 and confused among HP ENVY X360 OLED, YOGA SLIM 7i OLED ...... my main oncern is battery lasting! Heard AMD laptops has good battery lasting, can you help me?
Is the fan loud? Or is it just mine's?
Is this better than the 5I pro?
Can we charge the laptop with the usb c port ?
This design gives me so much ick. Why did they prio arrow keys over trackpad placement? What game do you use those regularly? Yuck
An advice would be much appreciated.
is it bad that it gets hot tho because i was running genshin and it was very hot like i felt where the fans blow ontop of the laptop and it was burning im worried it will destory the inside or should i not be worried
Hey everyone, Legion or MacBook pro M1 16 with 16GB RAM and 1TB? Is this better than MacBook pro or on par?
I had a similar configuration with the G14 but returned due to BSOD issues, and wouldn’t install Radeon Relive for recording gameplay due to Asus Drivers. Does the Radeon Relive software work on the Lenovo 7 Slim?
I want to buy a laptop under rs1.5 can u guys suggest me some Good laptops
