For all of those concerned about the longevity of the EcoBoost I work at a for dealer and we have put less than 5 turbos on and a hand full of injectors and that was all on gen 1 ecoboost the reall issues we see are some timing chain stretch and VCT noise which the VCT noise is usually covered under warranty and they have fix the issue after 2018 and some have oil leaks at the plastic oil pan. stickloaf Parts in new vehicles are engineered to be as cheap as possible without sacrificing too much rigidity and strength. I'm unsure which one will be most reliable in the long run. My bets would probably be on the Titan or Tundra. Realistically though I'd probably take the GMC.
The 2.7 eco boost is a nice motor too. They did a video with the 2.7 L against the 3.5L ecoboost they were neck and neck! I have a ram but I definitely like the fords that gonna be my next truck

@@paulhunter9613 I don't even own an f150. I own a powerstroke puts more hp to the tire than 99.9% of any ecoboost out there. A Whipple 5.0 is penny's compared to building a diesel and a big factor in why I'm considering switching. The ecoboost is not capable of doing what I want the 5.0 is. It is so much more than the ecoboost, better in every way. Even ford who pushed ecoboost with everything in them finally seen the light. They got curb stomped by the TRX. What engine did they fight back with? Not a lame 6 cylinder.
My two friends were racing this one time Dodge Charger vs Mustang GT when the light turned green they went, they said there was a white Ford F-150 that raced with them as well and for some reason the truck was pulling away and they couldn’t catch up to it and were left baffled. It all makes sense now, twin turbo ecoboost oh man! 🤙
No surprise on that outcome, 3.5 smokes them all, even more so towing. Worst mistake I made was trying to go back to an na V8 after owning ecoboost trucks, that lasted less than a year before I was in another ecoboost. EcoBoost or diesel engines (turbo) from here on out
Not this owner of a 2016 3.5L Ecoboost. (I've got the 3.55 rear end as well). I drive mine in Sport Mode all the time. But I blow everybody off the line. I get 50 yards ahead before most people clear the the intersection. And the funny thing is, you don't even have to punch it. Just about a quarter throttle gets it going pretty good. I get up to 100 mph in no time at all.
190k on my 2012 3.5. Over half the miles towing 5 to 6 thousand pound box trailer. No problem at all pulling in the mountains in colorado. I'll definitely be getting another. Timing chain rattles if I let the oil go over 4k but this truck has made me a shit ton of money and put a smile on my face doing it.
Brian... Absolutely! That's the race I want to see as well! Judging by how damn close the 5.0 was to the Ecoboost, I think it would beat the larger V8s. TFL please make it happen.
They need to get a more proper equipped 5.0, the 3.15 axle ratio is pretty lousy and the weakest available. With 3.55 or 3.73 the Coyote is way faster.
without watching the video and looking at you name and the level of butt hurt, I know who won. But given your argument, lets imagine the F-150 also had more cylinders and displacement.
TFL Team... Out-Freak'in-Standing! This was exactly what I wanted to see. After reading the comments, a few of us want to see a race JUST between the V8s. It's a given the Ecoboost would come out on top. However, judging how close the 5.0 finished to the 3.5, I think the smaller V8 would take down the RAM and GM. Please make that happen. P.S.- Thanks for choosing to work on these videos verses covering the SEMA event. I'm in the market for a truck and these contests were extremely useful. TLF continues to set the bar. Thanks.

When i became the sun.. people like what they like and will defend it without question, points can be argued all day but for what, if people like the Ford they will buy it, if people like the gmc they will buy it and so on, truth be told they are all disposable piles of tin foil at this point but cost as much as a house so no thanks, I will stick to motorcycles if I need a truck I can borrow one
Everyone said chevy around me but i bought FORD-150. In my opinion made the best choice. Comfy roomie, tech industed, great speakers, great towing. I just love it all
I dont know about blowing but v6 turbos are future. 2.7 , 3.5 L no matter what. Technology have changed the game. I dont have 5.0 🤠 but 2.7L but trust me. Its way better then what i expected.
I recently traded in my F250 with a 5.4 Triton V8 and got the F-150 with the 3.5 L twin turbo. It's an exceptional truck. The torque is just phenomenal in all kinds of conditions. Over the last few years the 3.5 twin turbo has been getting better and more reliable. Overall the 3.5 EcoBoost is the way to go. I love the V8 sound I love the traditional V8 Rumble but when you're spending that much money for a truck it needs to be able to do everything I needed to do. And that V8 just sucks the gas twice as much as the 3.5 V6.
I have a 2017 with the 3.5 Ecoboost. I have 143,000 miles on it. I’ve had zero problems. Recently I drove from Baltimore to Richmond and back. I drove the speed limit in the right lane. I got 29.1 MPG round trip. That’s crazy for such a big vehicle with the aerodynamics of a billboard.
I had a 3.5 twin screw, ridiculous torque, never a problem mechanically, but ran hot pulling my 9500lb trailer up Utah mountain passes in the summer. I now have the 5.0 coyote, haven't towed with it yet but daily driving it's averaging 4-5 mph higher than my 3.5 eco ever did.
InnerGuide. Nothing official from ford itself. There is unofficial f150 from Hennessy and Roush. But they all cost $90k plus. Some are all about performance on the street. Some around making the raptor look slow not as off road worthy.
@@olivierr.5752 Quite a bit. One mile above sea level puts the oxygen density to be less reducing natural aspirated engines by 15 to 20% power. the eco boost having 2 turbos makes up for that to some degree.
@@jldude84 I disagree after looking at the drive ratios for each transmission in each truck. Nissan may have a taller first gear, but both Ford and GM have more power oriented drive ratios in the middle of the transmission. A 3.15 or 3.31 axle ratio between these trucks will have a noticeable advantage over other competitors. I think the reason why the Nissan can hang is because the VK56VD maintains a pretty good torque/hp curve.

@@slydog75bc most of us truck owner/drivers don't look into buying a truck for efficiency or to save gas. @@roniebonilla8611 lol at the supercharger combo. You'd go spend an additional 8-10 grand just to keep up with a ecoboost. And heaven forbid the eco owner goes aftermarket turbos and tune. The HO 3.5 makes 455/510. Imagine what that will be with a good tune. Most truck owners aren't going to justify spending close to ten grand extra just to beat a factory truck configuration. I own a 2014 f150 5.0, and it's a turd compared to the new 5.0, which is a turd compared to the ecoboost. I get that truck guys love the v8 sound. But sound doesn't do any work. Auto manufacturers have been in such intense competition in recent that they have pushed one another to exceed most imaginations. We love these FRIENDLY competitions because at the end of the day the real winners are all of us the consumers.

Truthfully I don't buy trucks to win drag races ... I buy them to work , haul , tow , pull , and be safe in ... my 97- F150 4.6 5 speed with 258,000 miles has had the crap used out it , and still runs & drives great . Good luck with that twin turbo engine holding tight after 100,000 miles. If you want to see something interesting and get down to brass tacks , disable the turbos and run it natural aspiration then see what it can do , probably won't pull the hat off the top of your head !! It's a Good thing I didn't get rid of my ole Ford after losing a few races against my friends trucks , I would've missed out on one of the best workhorses I've ever owned !! Don't get me wrong I'm not dissing it , I'm a Ford guy , but I give credit where it's due & putting twin turbos on a small displacement engine with a truck with a barrage of lightweight aluminum alloy pieces is very innovative , but I'll trade all that for a heavy sure-footed solid safe truck getting 16MPG with no worries about it flying apart before 200K miles !! Peace Out !! -WM
While your '97 may be made of steel and appear "solid" because of it, don't let that fool you into believing the 10th Gen trucks were/are any more sturdy, or safe than any generation built after them. Have you ever seen the amount of frame and body flex on a 10th Gen F150? How about their crash ratings? They were absolutely dismal for their time. If you pit any 10th Gen F150 against a current 13th Gen, it would lose badly in every conceivable category. Yes, they're pricey and yes they're complex....but that's simply a reflection of the industry and inflation adjustment. Not to mention options found on a full blown Lariat of the 90's era can be had on even the most basic of models today. Don't let nostalgia, ignorance and personal bias get in the way of cold hard facts when it comes to making an "informed" decision. As far as engine choice goes. The Ecoboost isn't for everyone. Despite the unarguable superiority of the package itself, some guys just "need" to hear that V8 growl under hood when they press the loud pedal. Heck...I'm one of them...but I recognise that I'm giving up a "superior platform" for the sake of nostalgia and personal bias. That being the case....the Coyote is probably the best V8 Ford (or most any manufacturer for that matter) has built in the last 40-years.
My dad still has his 97 he bought off the lot, 358K and still going! Sure, you can somewhat tell the 4.6's age but no real motor problems. Only have had replace/re-machined heads after 250k(??) But still a very solid work truck.
I’m a Ford guy myself. I own a 07 5.4, and a 17 3.5. Fact is the 3.5 will out pull, out tow and still win a drag race than just about anything in its class, and it is a safer vehicle to boot.....
I go with and stay with what works my friend . Like I said , I'm a Ford guy thru and thru , and far from ignorant ... please believe that , so don't try to educate me , or take me to school so to speak , as far as trucks go , I've pulled , hauled , towed , stump jerked , hammered on , overworked pushed to the limit and bent Fords , Chevy , Dodges , Jeeps , etc ... if you've done the same , Welcome to the Working Man's Real World Country Cub . I had a 2012 EcoBoost f150 and it was a great truck, absolutely loved it. I recently traded in for a 2018 5.0 f150 and I loved so far both are great trucks. Ford FTW
To be honest, had the Titan had something like the ram had in the rear (3.92) it might have beat even the eco boost. I mean it held on against the gmc really closely but had a wayyy taller rear end ratio. That things a beast, and that’s coming from a ford guy lol.
@Ronald Worster How is it not stock? It's a vehicle built by a department within the company. All components are factory components, manufactured by Ford, with a full manufacturer's warranty. SVT is a division within Ford. Ford doesn't send it out to be modified. (Like Roush or Hennessey) I happened to see someone driving in a Roush modified Raptor, today. HOLY CRAP!!! Now THAT is not a stock vehicle, by any means. LOL
Yep, the 2.7 ecoboost is even quicker than its Big brother, the 3.5 in stock form. Once reprogrammed or upping the boost, the 3.5 becomes the winner over the 2.7 and both become miles ahead of any other truck in existence including any V8.
It’s only number one because GM does not want to let people know that chevy they are the same truck. So when someone buys a gmc and or a Chevy truck it’s the same one so if they added both those two company’s of how many they sold they will beat ford hands down from day one and they will be selling for over 42 years number 1.
No it's not... I have the 3.5EB gen2 and test drove both 3.5EB and 2.7EB prior to my purchase.... the 2.7 feels faster from the start but runs out of steam in high rpms.. the 3.5EB pulls harder with a longer meatier torque curve all the way to the redline.... which makes the 3.5EB quicker
I have had both, sold the 3.5.and I have a 2.7 now and stock this 2.7 truck is faster and that's a fact for sure. And I know it would beat my 2013 3.5L to 100 mph everytime. Just because the 3.5 has more.horse doesnt.mean it's a faster truck.
I'm a Chevy guy. But my buddy bought a brand new Ford F-150 and I knew before this even started that truck would win because when he took me for a drive in it that was one of the fastest vehicle's I've ever been in. I couldn't believe that thing had a v-6 in it. Blew my mind really.
2017 F150 3.5 Ecoboost 0-60 5.9 seconds 1/4 mile 14.5 seconds 2016 GMC Sierra Denali 6.2 0-60. 5.7 seconds 1/4 mile 14.1 seconds Moral of the story, the turbos retain horsepower and torque at elevation. Common real world scenario when not so high above sea level, all of the naturally aspirated trucks would be faster by quite a bit, and the GMC would have won. But if your are indeed in the mountains, the 3.5 F150 would be what you want for towing.
Jared Champagne, if you want to talk about souped up special vehicles, the Hennessey GMC Sierra HPE800 with 6.2 does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and ¼ mile in 12.3 seconds @112mph. Neat huh!
Shawn Elliott the 5.0 ford had the same disadvantage as the rest of the trucks yet it was 2nd fastest. The only one with the advantage was the 3.5 ecoboost.

Because everything here would shit all over the 5.3L. That engine has ZERO chance of even holding its ground against any of the trucks in this video except for maybe the naturally aspirated V6 Ram.
Lol that was my point Chevy had to send there big motor in to keep up with the others. The 5.3 is at the bottom of the barrel. Even ram sent a v6 knowing it wouldn’t do good but yet they still did it Chevy wouldn’t even send there 5.3
@@papyro8054 wrong dummy...the 5.3 is NOT "the bottom of the heap", the 5.3 is a very strong running motor for it's displacement. It puts out 350 horsepower and around the same in torque right off the lot. Chevrolet makes a 4.3 V6 and a 4.8 V8 and they're good strong motors. The ONLY reason Ford's 3.5 V6 is so strong is that it has TWO turbochargers!
Then why do they always send there 6.2 and not the 5.4 even ram sent a v6 along with there v8 and it does not have a turbo on it. Chevy always does this in all these tests. If they would of sent the 5.3 it would of came in last out of all the v8 models!
I'm a Ford guy but was actually surprised by this outcome. I'd of put my money on the 6.2 Sierra. It's a very good truck. They all are, almost. The v6 in the ram is a bit lacking in my opinion. I have the same engine in my Jeep and while my Jeep has plenty of power, it also doesn't have the weight of a full size truck. But hey, some people love that ram and that's ok.
Chevy has been trying to figure out a way to beat the ecoboost F150 since 2011 lol. I guess they're gonna buy some hellcat engines for their trucks next time...
Lmao if they wanted to beat it they put a supercharger on top, no one cares about a fast truck consumer reports show that. If you want something to go fast get a zr1 or a camaro. If your buying a truck for 0-60 your buying it for the wrong reason

And to think that the 3.5 they brought to this race is not even the fastest one. How much quicker is the limited f-150?

Jared Champagne, if you want to talk about souped up special vehicles, the Hennessey GMC Sierra HPE800 with 6.2 does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and ¼ mile in 12.3 seconds @112mph. Neat huh!
All the other videos I have watched says it's the 3.5 twin turbo every time.
HEY Roman you realize that is a skateboarding sweater ( skateboard trucks ) it has nothing to do with pick-up trucks!🤗
And you can add another 2 car lengths to those wins with a dyno tune on that eco boost
@ The Fast Lane Truck You Did not mention what axle ratios are on this these Trucks ! All the differance in 1/4 mile a 0-60 times !
Conclusion: The 2 Ford trucks are the fastest of the 6
At a mile above sea level, I would be more concerned if they weren't.
Shawn Elliott the 5.0 ford had the same disadvantage as the rest of the trucks yet it was 2nd fastest. The only one with the advantage was the 3.5 ecoboost.
No ford has beaten my hemi with 3.92 gears yet so I am sure this was fixed.
Peter Jamieson put a tundra in there and see what happens
Peter Jamieson more speed= less torque therefore fastest truck is the weakest
You all should know it's more than just engine.
Congrats ford.
I’m a Ford guy, but I’m still upset they didnt include Silverados in this video
Vincent Moreno - That's because they can't compete!
They had a fricken Siera. WTF
Loulovesspeed did you not see the Sierra?
@@T3CHK1NG54 Sierras are much better built than junky Chevy's.
@@MrKnuckles8978 same exact frickin powertrains on a Silverado & Sierra (samr model years) you tool...smh. ONLY differences are styling on body parts.
V6 twin turbo all the way baby! Long live the EcoBoosts mighty reign, GTR is a twin turbo V6 and they are up over 3000hp full mod. Wont be long and the 3.5 eco will have the aftermarket support to be deep into the 1000hp range... these F150s are killer. 6 bolt main, bossed in oil pan/girdle, rigid head design with great gasket clamping force. Delete the DI, big injectors and big boost let's go baby. My 13' is close to 500hp with basic bolt ons lol... glad my tail lights look so good for ya.
No 2.7 f150?? I feel like that would be the fastest of them all!!
My 2.7 was stupid quick. Fastest truck I've owned. I've had a many V8s and they just didn't compare.
Yup. People running in the high 11s with just a tune.
Why would a smaller engine be faster when they're both twin turbos? Serious question.
@@slydog75 A hair lighter and the power curve (transmission is the same)
i own a 2.7 and it is jerky in sport and when i looked it on google, ford made the 2.7 the most jerky with the trans.
2:24 was the best unexpected part! Lol
That's so funny 😂 in all actuality the two Ford's were the closest. I bet the 5.0 would have outran the Sierra.
Nope they wont
I eat dodges and fords trucks everyday I have a 2016 6.2 GMC sierra and it smokes them all........come get some and it's still stock! but a supercharger coming soon......
Imagine if they (the 2 Fords) ran a decent gear ratio in the rear end for this race???? The 3.15 and 3.31 are the two slowest rear-ends Ford makes.
If they ran the 3.55 locker or the 3.73, it would have been even more embarrassing for the GM, Dodge and what ever else those were.
@@bryonscheer2759 well too bad it's slower than a V6. LOL!!!
@@nickhowell168 yeah No so go drive your 1999 ford Ranger!!!
I own a 1999 f 250 turbo 7.3 L power stroke that i bought new and has 237,000 miles and has never been in shop except for tires and oil change. I will never buy another truck. I have an International harvester 1586 that
weighs 18,000 pounds and it joyrides with it on the highway.
On the 5.0 Coyote, did you guys turn the sport mode on ? That makes a big difference
Smell of Gasoline probably not lol
Love this episode… that being said I would love to see a 2022 version of this test??!!!
Would be perfect now that the tundra and the Silverado are boosted and soon the ram will have the hurricane!
Keep up the incredible work guys!! ❤️
2022 it's obviously just between lightning and the rivian. They aren't good at a lot of truck stuff but they are not going to get beat at drag racing by any combustion engine
@@Eric-zs6rd eh those trucks can't even tow 100 miles without running out of range, they shouldn't be in the tests.
Would love to have seen the coyote against more than just the Ecoboost.
I have a 2.7 ecoboost and having driven the coyote for a week I was not impressed. The 2.7 is faster. However I don't think any of the non turbos should even try to race any of the 3 ecoboosts. I would like to see the coyote against the other V8's.
EB would still win.
This will once and for all settle all the Country backyard disputes
hahahaha
Just finished the video.
It's great to see the Ecoboost is still king.
Why not Chevy with the 5.3? That’s the most popular motor in the half ton trucks from GM
Even ram sent a v6 knowing it wouldn’t do good but yet they still did it Chevy wouldn’t even send there 5.3
Slowwwwwweee
The trim around the F-150 ‘s grill looks really cool
He called him punk ass lol. Love the chemistry.
Chevy has been trying to figure out a way to beat the ecoboost F150 since 2011 lol. I guess they're gonna buy some hellcat engines for their trucks next time...
They should consider putting a Corvette ZR1 engine into the GM twins. It might have a chance to beat Ford's EcoBoost. ;)
Lmao if they wanted to beat it they put a supercharger on top, no one cares about a fast truck consumer reports show that. If you want something to go fast get a zr1 or a camaro. If your buying a truck for 0-60 your buying it for the wrong reason
Patrick Simmons c
daniel Stark you don't live in Texas do you?
DizzKid most likely doesn't live in the south in general lol
Fastest halftone truck, not my 94 Silverado, the speedometer only goes up to 85 and it top's out and 68, 0 to 60 in 29 seconds XD
isaiah the hillbilly lol! i bet it could pull the neighbors house down and then carry the houses remains in the bed though! trucks are for work not speed.
My 7.3 does 0-60 in fifteen seconds. Thing is, it'll do that regardless of the weight behind it.
@@jacobg5122 do it pulling a peice of shit Chevy
Have you seen those 3.5 EcoBoost with just a tune and launching with high 4x4? Low 4 seconds 0 to 60 mph that is some fast shit
And that's not even Ford's most powerful engine configuration
Nor Rams
Yep not rams
Kyler the Ram’s 6.4 is in a 2500 not a 1500 tho
Kyler lol dodge dont got crap on the new ecoboost 470hp 510 ft-lbs in the new raptor engine thats a 3.5l
Logan Hudson new 2019 Limited with the HO 3.5 EcoBoost will be awesome. 450hp/510 on tap for a lighter truck will be cool
but damn, that Hemi sounds great!
Love my 2019 Raptor Supercrew.
the 5.0 was the closest to the ecoboost. Maybe its because of the weight savings being only a 2x4
Ecoboost might still win at sea level but the altitude of this track gave the forced induction motor a HUGE advantage.
The eco will always have an advantage and at all sea levels
I wouldn't pick a turbo charged truck if i'm gonna put it to work they will ware out quickly but if i'm gonna use it for just a daily use like a regular car then it's okay
Virtually every semi and working hauler out there running a turbo
@@courtneyanderson2293 semi trucks run with diesel and not gas have you seen any diesel truck in this video or is this video about semi truck? Or can a half ton truck pull 40 tons like semi trucks? Your comment is pointless
i think the coyote would of taken the GMC maybe....but of course it was lighter by a few hundred pounds im sure since 2wd
That's what I want to see, the Ford 5.0 against the GMC 6.2. The 5.0 was close to the ecoboost, even with the granny rear axle ratio. I bet it could hang with the GMC 6.2
I think so too, it was at the bed of the ecoboost and the ecoboost spun really bad against the GM. pretty sure the coyote would have beat the RAM too.
