    MY apocalypse is the one depicted in the 1990's Xmen. His threatening biblical quotes, his ruthlessness, his crazy unstopable powers, and his voice actor RIP delivered that emotion of superiority even in the face of setbacks.
    "There is no freedom from me. There is only freedom THROUGH ME"

    • @KCZ7
      @KCZ7 8 лет назад +8

      *goosebumps* Yes!! That's my vision of Apocalypse as well. There was only 2 or 3 quotes, imo, that the movie version reminded me of the 90s version. Not much, but when it did.... I was like "ahhhh, there he is".

    • @koyuki4848
      @koyuki4848 8 лет назад +5

      Yeah! I was hoping for a 2 or 3 part movie to slowly add the tension and drama of it all as apocalypse in the comics rarely does it like in the movies, he manipulates from behind the shadows, was hoping for that where after peeling away the layers they find the ultimate bad guy is apocalypse and he is at full power and difficult to beat.
      This movie apocalypse was quite tame, Phoenix burned him like a campfire marshmallow.

      Yeah, they should have led off with sinister.

    • @sMASHsound
      @sMASHsound 8 лет назад +4

      +koyuki4848 me too, that is why I wanted sinister before apocalypse. sinister would have been good enough to be a villain with henchmen for the X-Men to locate, figure out and fight.
      The end would be sinister retreating, then realising he was going manipulated.
      The second movie would be the hunt for sinister, while sinister hunts who was manipulating him, while mystique fights the x men and with some of the group being the either sinister's men or horsemen.
      it turns to a big 4/5 way fight, and then boils down to where they all realize they are all being manipulated. and ends with the warning from the beginning of transformers 2... they were informed that they were all manipulated into bringing about the apocalypse.
      third movie, they kinda truce to stop the apocalypse. the horse men reveal themselves. revealed in the middle of the movie, the apocalypse is not an event, but person.

    My one complaint about Apocalypse in the movie is that he basically looked like a body-double for Ronan the Accuser from Guardians of the Galaxy.

  • @Lysander45
    @Lysander45 8 лет назад +16

    I like the reasoning that Apocalypse gained his powers through possessing consecutive powerful mutants, that was a good touch and gave the excuse for him having whatever power the plot required.

      That's the best iteration of ALL X-Men characters

  • @TheMimeGogo

    seen the movie. (wont spoil anything)
    Of course, because of film rights limitations, the movie version of Apocalypse - does not have as rich a back story and power set as explained in this video.
    Instead, he sort of has powers that are plot "convenient" - (although a small explanation was given for them.)
    Powers and character background aside, While Issacs brings a good performance, his portrayal as Apocalypse comes off more as an omnipotent weirdo, rather than an intimidating almost hulking presence he has been shown to have in comics, games, and the cartoons.

    A correction with where Stryfe and BIshop beat Apocalypse. He was actually already weakened when they combined their forced to defeat him. But during messiah war when Archangel used some of his feathers to help rejuvenate Apocalypse he came back fully powered and beat the literal shit out of Stryfe. Though Stryfe is strong, against a fully powered Apocalypse he is completely outclassed.

    The movie version was inferior in every way because the writers and director had no comprehension or interest in canon or abilities of Apocalypse except for footnotes brought in by a secretary or two.

      I agree with that. They didn't even get cyclops' powers right. When he takes of the glasses he can't focus the beams. They made it so there is no reason for him to even have a visor.

    Oscar Isaac is an amazing Actor and I loved all his big dumb speeches and rants. He felt like an amazing fit as apocalypse and and in all honesty, I hope we see a merging of the cinematic multiverses so we can have the celestials come into play in the X-Men and Avengers movies.

  • @xXAkirhaXx
    @xXAkirhaXx 8 лет назад +86

    X-men Apocalypse. It wasn't as good as the last two, but it was miles ahead of any of the bad X-men films. A solid middle of the road super hero movie, like a Thor movie, or Iron Man 2. As far as Apocalypse as a character goes. The movie did him as well as could be done in one movie. To do him right, he needs an entire movie based on Cable to introduce him, then maybe another one to introduce his origin, then a separate one to show him fighting the X-men. They couldn't do all of that, so they did well with what they had. What would be fucking cool though is if they had a future version of the current X-men with Cable incorporated Cyclops and Jean Grey and filled out the back story for Apocalypse after the Apocalypse movie. That would be fun.

    • @miliboy0522
      @miliboy0522 8 лет назад +6

      actually they could have added cable in the beginning, this movie did not do Apocalypse justice and the Phoenix thing was the same as last stand which sucked. Phoenix is not born in Jean grey

      I feel like X-Men apocalypse should've been split into 2 parts,that way all the characters would've had the proper development,which imo is one of the problems in this X-Men movie

      I interpreted this is Fox saying, this is our continuity of Jean Grey, and we're keeping this version of her within our X-Men universe, as opposed to reverting back to the comic origins just because people want it so.

    when stryfe beat Apocalyspe in messiah war he wasn't at full power bishop states in the future Apocalypse becomes the most powerful being to ever walk the earth and rules it with an iron fist he said stryfe had tried to beat Apocalypse at his best and failed so he and stryfe went and fought Apocalypse at his weakest and it took stryfe and bishop to beat Apocalypse at his weakest which shows that even at his weakest form he can beat an omega level mutant like stryfe.

    Some of these powers have such enormous scope and with no examples it's pretty hard to imagine even with all the comprehensive chronological explanations you give, cause it's still pretty all over the place.
    A series either devoted to specific types of powers with examples and explanations would be cool, if not on a per character basis.

    I kind of didn't like the movie. Their Apocalypse didn't hardly do shit. Most of the fights were just the cast standing around screaming at each other while the special effects team jerks off around them.
    There is only ONE line in the whole movie where Apocalypse SOUNDS like Apocalypse. The rest of the time he's just trying to do a suppressed whisper sort-of thing.
    The majority of the "bad guys" screen time is them teleporting around and then posing menacingly for the camera.
    They turned Magneto into a bitch, and his big part is just hanging in the air with said SFX masturbation going on around him. And his "power enhancements" were bullshit.
    I can go on but you get the idea. The movie is what would pass for a good X-Men movie 16 years ago when all it had to do was vaguely resemble the source material.

    • @TheUntouched422
      @TheUntouched422 8 лет назад +1

      I was also annoyed by magneto's power in this movie. *spoilers* him simply just throwing pipes at Apocalypse is bullshit. He should've ripped apocalypse in half...like he did in the comics. The fact that he's damn near in his late 40's and still had to have his powers augmented to levels he should normally attain is quite annoying.

    • @KCZ7
      @KCZ7 8 лет назад

      F'n A, mate! Damn good review of the movie and I completely agree. I might have gave it better ratings, but I'm on still on that Civil War hype. With CW & XM:A coming out only weeks from each other.... we all knew FOX wasn't going to deliver a spectacular showing like the Civil War. I had hopes for XMA and actually saw it Thursday night. I love my X-Men, but this wasn't all that great. It's exactly as the OP said: bunch of standing around and shizz. Lastly, I wasn't a big fan of Psylocke. There, I said it. She was one of my favs in the comics, but .... just wasn't a big fan of hers on the big screen. Maybe bc Munn... idk.

    • @kcvortex

      I know exactly how you feel, if they would have just kept his powers more in like with what he is like in the comics the fight scenes could have been so much better.

    • @djhov82
      @djhov82 8 лет назад +4

      I agree, the movie was shit. Apocalypse had to dialogue where I found myself hanging on to every word he spoke. He hardly did anything in the film plus Apocalypse is a villain that deserves some build up like Thanos in the Marvel movies. They could have found a way to sneak him into some movies making references of him and finally leading to a movie with a proper back story. Movie fans could have seen where he got his ideology from so they wouldn't think he was just a "I hate the world so I must destroy it" type of villain.

    • @TheUntouched422
      @TheUntouched422 8 лет назад +2

    He probably was and here's my argument:
    Just as you pointed out, as far as his powers go we don't know what is the suit and what is apocalypse himself, making the suit argument meaningless. What we do know however is that they say in the comics that he's the most powerful mutant to have ever lived. This is probably not true any more as many god level mutants have been introduced since the 60s but it would still suggest that he should be up there with the rest of the omegas. We also never seen apocalypse at full power so we have no idea how powerful he really is.

    considering his weakness of power drain he kinda reminds me of Odin who needs the odin sleep to recharge. however i also say he would be no match for thor even when the god has been weakened via sharing his power with several mortals. well it would be one hell of a fight if the two went all out on each other thor would eventaly win do to him having the better stamina of the two. plus thor rarly gets to go all out in a fight as his personal honor code makes him hold back unless fighting someone who has the power to match him, and there are actually very few marvel character's who can equal thor when he goes all out. i also feel that apocalypse's warror pride would prevent him form cheating by using his other powers size manipulation on thor. with thor being the same. i would even go as far as to say thor would put his hammer down in a all out fight between the two.
    the fight would be one hell of a show of skill as thor has at least as much experience as Apocalypse despite possibly being younger then the latter. however thor being a half elder god may have been the exception to the Ragnarok cycle and is far older then we thing. especaly given his shear power as it takes an king of the gods level god to suppress his godforce. so a shear all out fight between these two Titanicly powerful beings would be a fight i would love and pay to see. But only if it was a all out fair fight. hmm fan fiction idea. however Apocalypse's would die at the end but , but Thor would need his prosthetic arm again, and whatever planet/moon the two fight on would be destroyed. hmm apacalypes after beeing recharged at one point in time could assault Asgard well odin is in his sleep with the goal of gaining a golden apple to gain true godhood would be a good premise for the fight. hmm now i want an apple.

    LOVED the movie. It was, for me, the best X-men movie to date. Apocalypse is such a big part of that for me. LOVED it. I think the studios have to take license with the properties they own, so it's fine that it wasn't EXACTLY like the stories we remember from the comics or the 90's TV show.

    Well, the apocalypse from the movie had some new powers I cannot recall seeing from the character. Rather than controlling his own molecules, changing his size and form, he was able to disassemble inanimate structures and become a force of erosion essentially. He is able to ..not quite phase people into solid objects, but place them into them as if they were liquid, and then solidify them. The technopathy is still there. He's kind of a reality warper.
    Why he couldn't do this to living matter is left as a giant plot hole, but whatever.
    His mentality is the same. He is alone. He alone deserves to be the ruler above all, because he is the mightiest. He is god. Because otherwise, he is a slave, hated by other slaves. How they set up conflict with Xavier and how they make his philosophy resonate with the kind Magneto portrays in some stories makes for a great movie.
    In a way, I feel sorry for him. I wish they had spelled out why he felt so alone and driven to his conclusions -- could have given Magneto a chance to differentiate himself. Its implied, but not everyone will get that.

    8:30 Why do people keep thinking that Apocalypse can die? You cannot die if you are immortal. This is simply due to different writers have different renderings of Apocalypse.

  • @gordontubbs

    Apocalypse in the movie was a bit OP... all of his powers were out of convenience. They should have given him a bit more backstory to explain his technopathy, perhaps by throwing some Celestials into the film (which could have easily added context to Guardians of the Galaxy or the 4th installment rumored to be the Dark Phoenix Saga), but unfortunately, the audience was left to make too many assumptions about him. We got the impression that he was able to accumulate a vast amount of abilities simply because he could transfer his essence into another body and consume their powers. This pretty much makes him The Highlander, right? lol. For the die-hard X-Men fans who know all the backstories, the movie was just a lot of fun and did its job at being a solid Third Act action movie with a little Darth Vader-style redemption of Magneto thrown in. If you watched the X-Men animated series growing up, the film was a nice steak dinner in comparison.

      Not too different from the comics honestly. Apocalypse rarely gets involved in fist fights. He usually employs some advanced technology to defeat his foes or sends in the Horsemen. Besides, in the movie, any time there was a 1v1 moment, Apocalypse always came out on top. Nobody except Phoenix could stop him. That's OP.

    One thing I don't understand is this ,why does Apocalypse stay on earth ? After gaining celestial knowledge what would be the point of staying on earth does he fear leaving behind the earth when he could start over on another world without waiting for thousands of years.

    Your opening was absolutely perfect. "What is going on, guys?" Yeah, What is going on over at Marvel? Are they purposefully distancing themselves from MCU? Cap is literally still battling oversight and tyranny in theaters. Explain that. Explain the fact that Cap has one superpower. No, it has nothing to do with the Super Soldier program. It isn't his "Peak human performance", nor his superior tactical abilities, nor his mastery of combat styles. Friggin everyone in the Marvel universe has those. Aunt May probably is a tactical genius. Caps super power is that he is infinetly trustworthy. He is everything we should be. What the actual frac are they thinking by taking away his super power?

    Whoa, I'm here so early. I saw the movie last night and it was pretty awesome. The only big thing that ticked me off was all of the destruction they caused and people they killed (especially magneto) because it just seemed excessive. What do you even do when cities have been completely destroyed? Theres no way millions (tens? hundreds?) didn't die. How do you rebuild? How long will that take? What does that mean for the future of their universe? It just seemed like too much. Besides that I still enjoyed the movie anyways. A little slow at some parts because they had a lot of set up (which didn't lead to anything as great as I was hoping) but it was still a fun movie and well worth the price of admission :> even if the price of admission here is only $5.

    Whole movie the first time of X men give real comic world and life to charachters. Thing what realy make me joy is not puting a lot of preasure on introducing abilities to people who just watch film, but in another hand it is kind explaned shortly power of Apocalypse. Sneaky is Jean Grey rise of Phoenix :) Maybe Avengers against Apocalypse be good with more powered Hulk to be stoped and Lokeys apearence also.

    The Apocolypse movie did a disservice to Apocalypse, Angel / Arch Angel, Nightcrawler, and esp Psylocke (only Asian woman character and they can barely give her a line, same as Jubilee)
    As others have noted and I noted at the time: Apocalypse needs an entire series of movies to be done with any kind of respect for the character.. as it stands the best we can do is pretend this didn't happen just like with Deadpool and Venom's first appearance ...

      Juan Mejia Jean was among the Twelve that Apocalypse would have absorbed.
      The Full list of The Twelve Mutants Apocalypse would have absorbed:
      Magneto
      Polaris
      Storm
      Sunfire
      Iceman
      Cyclops
      Phoenix
      Cable
      Bishop
      Mikhail Rasputin
      Professor X

      Meanwhile transferring his mind into the body of X-Man, adding his power in there too.
