When she wanted to join X men Xavier said that he can help with control of her powers and mind (she had multiple personalities disorder during her first run) if she will prove that she is worthy.
      He lied.
And she was trying hard to prove that she is worthy, because she didn't believe that she is.

I loved Gambit too tho, that cool creole accent and confidence and just being yourself is why i think Rogue gravitated towards him. Feeling like an outsider myself I felt like one of the Xmen. BUt, Couldnt wait to wake up and watch the cartoon on saturday Mornings. My favorite line I still remember from Wolverine was when Blob (if I remember correctly, or it could have been Juggernaut) said " Eat concrete Wolverine" and smashes him down on it only for him to reply "Needs more salt!"

What people don't realise is that what people liked about Rogue was the best parts of a dominating Carol Danvers , and the soft ,shy, but also trickster nature of Rogue and by combining the best qualities of Police officer Danvers with the thief like character of Rogue you have one very deep character with two sides on the same coin making for a very good fleshed out character.

    • @LupineShadowOmega
      @LupineShadowOmega 8 лет назад +17

Yeah, let me stop you right there. While Rogue is one of my favorite X-Men period. Don't start taking the piss on Wonder Woman. Especially saying she had a perfect life. The entire point of WW is that she lived in a basic utopia yes, but the moment she leaves it she's dedicated to helping every person she meets. She gets a day job, she takes in a culture that couldn't be farther from her own, and she even has to eventually accept the failures of her own culture. Wonder Woman is great when she's being written well. She however just doesn't get much consistency, because too many writers just don't get her at all and they just want to make her Superman's girlfriend.

    • @StephenGillie

I hated that in the movies we never got to see her gain her super powers from Ms.Marvel & they never brought in Gambit. Seeing Rogue with Bobby I was like WTF? & seeing him with Kitty Bobby was player what made Rogue's character a disappointment was that she took the cure so that she could be with Bobby. Although seeing that Magneto's powers were returning at the end of the movie made me think that Rogue's abilities will return as well the so called cure was a temporary fix.

There was no Ms Marvel in that story so there's no one to steal from, if a character being cool/useful/powerful is so heavily reliant on another external character than maybe that character isn't all that great/powerful to begin with, didn't watch much of the cartoons so perhaps I lack the nostalgia people carry for Rogue

For the longest time this question has lingered in my mind, why can't Professor X or any of the brilliant brains of the Marvel Universe give Rogue a power inhibitor to enable her to touch and live normally? She can switch the inhibitor on if she wants to access her powers.
I know this type of device has already existed why can't the X-men refined it to make it. Rogue character can then be explored in a different level.

She wore one when her powers evolved further to absorbing the powers & life force of people from a distance without even touching them. Alright folks, I'll do a resume for you:
    1. Rogue was a mutant orphan runaway with absorbtion powers. She can absorbs the minds of people and powers of other mutants. Mystique took her under his wing where she joined the Evil mutant group where they showed how how to be ruthless.
    2. In a fight with blonde super-hero Ms. Marvel (you will see her on the big screen as Captain Marvel), Rogue goes nuts and absorbs a little too much, making Marvel a lifeless zombie of sort. But by doing that Rogue keeps Ms. Marvel's powers forever(which is super-strenght, flight and having a "6th sense").
    3. But after a while, Rogue realise her mistakes and since she is going nuts by absorbing all these minds over time, esp. Carol Danvers/Marvel, she seeks the X-Men help and Prof X gives it to her.
    4. Ms. Marvel over time regains her powers and mind and goes to the X-Men and beat the shit out of Rogueé
    5. Then Ms. Marvel is bombared by cosmic rays from the aliens Kree and she becomes pure energy, gaining new powers and is renamed "Binary" and go into space for adventures where she joins the Star Jammers a group of space pirates.
    6. Rogue meanwhile becomes a full-fledge X-Man and becomes popular for being badass and with a cocky tomboyish southern attitude. The whole gimmick of the mix of her absorbtion powers and strenth and flght is awesome. In a story the X-Men fights The Fantastic Four and the Thing is fighting and she quickly grabs him in flight gives him a kiss, and she become a She-Thing of sort in flight. Her whole attitude too where she flies and kicksass with her strenght is great.
    7. A cosmic sorceress gives the X-Men talisman. When you throw this talisman on the ground, it opens a portal and if you enter it, it will change you, give you another life and make your dreams' come true. Well, in a battle the X-Men were in trouble fighting a super-sentinel of sort. So someone threw the talisman on the ground maybe as something to change the tide so to speak. Rogue pushed the robot sentinel into it but he also grabbed her and they both went through it.
What it did was this: it took away everything that was Ms. Marvel inside of Rogue. and creating another being identical to the original Ms. Marvel with Rogue not her strenght/flight powers anymore. But that new Ms. Marvel-like being since she had soul, was easily prey to a psychic demon that corrupted her and she fought Rogue where that creature tried to corrupt Rogue where they both fighting and trying to absorb each other. Then boom that false Ms. Marvel her chest exploded. Somebody had killed, The panel revealed: It was Magneto! The X-Men's Greatest villain! He saved Rogue and they became lovers lived together on a place called "Savage Land". Rogue was supposed to only have absorbtion powers from now on but while fighting the fake Carol, she absorbed her powers back somehow. Just not her mind/memory that gave her so much trouble in the past.

I wish more people can beat the sh*t out of cap. When all is said and done, his powers are just C+ grade super strength. He should struggle specifically with anyone with superior strength and durability. Cap's unique value should be in how he can inspire, organize, and lead a crap ton of heroes.

Lots of placement issues when it comes to rogue's character. She has a story, she has an interesting power with great potential, but they still had a lack of respect for her image and the proper placement of her character. Her 90s image was the best one, to be honest.

I love the 90's character of Rogue so much! She was this uber sexy, uber beautiful, bold, strong southern bell. Then b/c Anna Paquin played Rogue who looks basic af, the more recent comics now depict Rogue in Anna's image - basic almost like a plain flat chested boy in a green cloak. She even seems as passive aggressive and moody as Anna, whereas the 90's Rogue was ready to throw down to get her point across. It's an f'n shame, one of the most notable female characters in the marvel universe , had her image DESTROYED and I feel that lackluster performance by that homely Anna Paquin is in large part to blame. Bring the "real Rogue" back!!!!

100% agree. Anna Paquin is a talented actress, but the writing and direction she worked under in the X-Men movies kept her character's capabilities an ocean below her abilities in the comics. And a movie with Mystique in her blue form for at least 60% of her appearance, with another actress instead of JLaw.

I was probably too young to really get it, but I remember just thinking that it was really cool, really interesting. It certainly stuck with me. Back when I was 11 years old I picked up Avengers and was introduced to Rogue, I had a dream that she would become the greatest female superhero, then woke up in the middle of the night, looking at the ceiling, I saw Rogue as the greatest female character in Marvel and DC history! That was a devine premonition! It was also in the tarot cards! The only flaw was sticking her with Gambit who volentarily assisted in killing thousands of mutants living in the New York subways! If Rogue finds out about that, it's the big d as in divorce which she needs to continue reaching that fame I forsaw in the cards and a devine premontion! Gambit is just an accessory latching off of Rogues fame! There's a male supehero with that same popularity as the greatest male character in all of comics and here's a hint "it defenately isn't Gambit " and it's a Marvel character! Put him and Rogue together and Ican garentee Marvel will skyrocket through the industry! Rogue has come from nothing and has built and earned all the love and all the greatness coming her way, she doesn't need Gambit she can reach as high as she want by herself or at least marry Wonderman, he's my favorite Avenger, Rogue shares his powers picture Mr,/ Mrs. Wonderful, or Mr./ Mrs. Marvelous! That comic and Avengers along with X-men would have greatness to even make the Justice League look dumb!

Rogue was a lifeforce sapper ! though she looked very good in those 90's cartoons ,who wouldn't want to be touched by her.

Rogue is definitely my favorite female character from the Marvel Universe and especially from the X-Men story. But I'm talking about the character Rogue as she is in the comics and the 1992 animated series, not what they made of her in the movies and in the following animated adaptations. In the subsequent animated adaptations they just made a movie copy out of her... Which was the lamest thing they could've done.

    • @richardsands

Supposedly not - it was supposed to be a side effect of her power. Obviously it went from both sides to a single skunk stripe because the original look made her look middle aged rather than someone with two punk stripes in their hair...
The later changes have all just been artistic preference, I believe. Imo, it looked best at its punkest, which I believe would be the X-Men Alpha Flight crossover series (where she got to kiss a man without worrying about her power, shame he was openly gay!)
In the much later flashbacks to her youth, she seems to already have the two tone hair, which is a bit weird, but at the quality of those stories, I doubt anyone could be bothered about whether she should have had the white or not.
