    I watched another video and the technician said that when the drain pump is operating and you hear a high-pitched whine, the motor is shot. I heard the wine and your video and recognize that, thus I made this comment!
    good video. Thank you for posting this. It’s very helpful🙂👍

    Thank you for your clear and detailed instruction, and of course your time and work to produce this hi-quality video. Save me lot of money and anxiety.
    Update 8.22.2023: Received the replacement water pump for $35 US on AMZ. Replaced on the same day using your instruction. Got in installed in less than 15 mins, but if including other preparation and cleaning it will take about 1 hour. Ran multiple DRAIN tests which passed 100%. Very happy and thankful for the video.

    Thank you for this video. Fixed my dishwasher in 20 minutes with this new pump assembly and its draining better than ever and going through the full cycle after the dreaded DE error code. As many others have stated in the comments, you do not need to take the dishwasher out of its spot to do this fix, you can simply take the baseplate off and the pump and all the hoses are fully accessible from the front.

    Thank you, this worked for me. Cost me 90 CAD in parts and saved me 160 CAD in labour. It is a pretty easy fix. Things I would suggest others to watch out for when doing this work is to be careful when moving the dishwasher out if you have wooden floors, I scratched mine up a tiny bit. Also, leave the dishwasher such that the door is on top. I made the mistake of leaning it forward which messed up the stands in the front, so I had leveling issues after putting it upright again. Finally, it water starts leaking near the door after this repair, you need to level the dishwasher using the knobs on the bottom. This happened to me and had me worried, but it has been fine after leveling it.

    Great video and instructions. I had a OE error and thanks to this video I could tell the drain pump was going bad on our 5 years old dishwasher. These pumps seem to fail between 3 and 5 yrs. However, I was able to purchase just the pump (about $21) instead of the whole housing with the pipes and clips (about $43). I was also able to replace the pump without having to remove the dishwasher. A bit tight but can definitely be done in about 10 minutes. Thanks a million for the video; it saved me a bunch of $.

    • @ZacharyHelm
      @ZacharyHelm 5 месяцев назад

      Yep, this is all you need. Disconnect the wires. Hold the assembly firmly and rotate the pump clockwise to remove. You can probably leave the hoses on the old assembly. You should also just do this before ordering a new pump - to check inside for blockage.

    Thanks for the video! I received the dreaded "DE" error on my LG dishwasher over the weekend. Started googling found your video ordered the drain pump from Amazon and it was here on Monday! Gotta love the Internet! :) Thanks to folks who mentioned the pump could be replaced by removing the kickplate. I pulled mine out about halfway and propped it up on some blocks for a little better access. Pump has been replaced and the dishwasher is chugging along again. DIY feels great especially when you save money over having to just replace the dishwasher!

    Excellent video describing changing the pump assembly. I bought only the motor on Amazon which saves $100 approx. Once you have removed the pump assembly, a simple twist disengages the old motor from the assembly.. Note that there is a rubber washer which should be carefully removed and cleaned and dried. I strongly suggest coating the washer with a thin layer of plumber's grease and it will make it much easier to twist the new motor into place. Twist the new motor into place, re-install the pump assembly as in the video and you are good to go. For me.....problem solved. Dishwasher back to normal. Very pleased!!

    Thanks, this worked great, except I struggled for about an hour to fix it in place like some people mentioned. It almost worked, but it did not allow the working room to wiggle the large hose clamp into place. We pulled the dishwasher out but instead of flipping to its back, put a brick under each adjustable foot and were able to easily finish the part installation quickly. This allowed us to leave the drain hose connected to the drain pipe.

    Just replaced mine after watching your video. Although I could hear the pump working, was constantly getting the OE error code a few minutes into the cycle - guess it wasn't working well enough. I order only the pump (without the housing) from Amazon for $24: LG EAU60710801 BLDC Dishwasher Pump Motor Replacement DC 22V
    And two days later I was able to replace the pump without removing the dishwasher from its place in 15-20 minutes. It's very tight and no much room to maneuver, but just enough to do it. As others said, the new pump does not come with the back rubber ring, but you can remove it from the old pump. Also, make sure you have a towel handy as few ounces of water will drain out as you remove the old pump (if you have hardwood in the kitchen you might get yelled at). Thanks again for your video - I'm not a handy person and couldn't have done it without your video!

    I just did this. Just wanted to confirm you do not need to remove the whole dishwasher. With a pair of pliers you can remove the hose clamps and remove the pump. I ended up finding a chopstick in my pump. Be sure to put a towel underneath the pump, once you remove the pump from the hoses water may come pouring out. Not much, but enough to easily dry up with a towel.

      How do you get access to the drain pump without turning this thing over? There doesn't seem to be much room to put the pliers and remove the hose clamps.

    • @CubanDre
      @CubanDre 4 года назад +1

      @@asrarq There isnt at all, if you have smaller pliers it helps. You may have to push the tubes around to get the access that you need. Remove the clamp for one tube push it out of the way, you may need to use your fingers to move the clamp in a position that is easy to access for the pliers. This was a while back, if I remember correctly it was easiest for me to start with the hose in the back once I removed that, the pump was able to move around more freely, and I just moved the tube around until it was easy to access a clamp.

    • @mk13mk1iii
      @mk13mk1iii Год назад +1

      I preloaded the hose clamp by sliding it off the new part. Used a slip jaw set of pliers and compressed the tension. I then used a cable tie on the handles of the pliers to keep the tension on it. Slide back over hose. Slide hose on bib. Wiggle hose clamp over into position and either wiggle pliers off clamp or cut cable tie.

    Great video. Found it after doing the same work, and can confirm this is step by step exactly what to do. The only thing I would add is that when you disconnect the drain line that runs from the dishwasher to the sink or drain spot, I used my shop vac to suck it clean. With the drain hose in the shop vac, seal the gap with a towel to get all suction on the drain tube.

    Hey thanks this has been helpful!
    We bought this dishwasher 2nd hand from somebody and it's worked ok for the most part. Had an issue I encountered, that whole assembly sits on the bottom of a disc with a giant rubber o ring on the top which prevents water from leaking out of the washing chamber all over the electrical components. You can see the o ring if you look inside the dishwasher on the bottom.
    Mine is just ever so slightly popped up in the back, and on the bottom front side, there's two plastic clips held in with a screw and washer that I believe are intended to keep it locked in place. That side is fine, but the other back side is the one that is the issue, because it's popped up, water is leaking and i'm having a heck of a time trying to get it back into its proper place.
    i'm a 6ft 250lb dude, I basically tried turning it over and deadlifting this thing into place and I still can't get it, any advice :(

    • @chicagohandyman
      @chicagohandyman  Год назад +1

      If you’re having a difficult time getting the rubber washer to seat correctly, I’d use some silicone grease to help get it on a little more easily. But I have to say that I’ve never done the repair you’re talking about.

    When I first got the error code I looked it up in the owners manual and the OE error message states there is a clogged filter or a kinked drain line. I didn't think the drain pump was bad because it did work when I did the override to make the dishwasher drain. I snaked out the drainage lines and cleaned out the drainage connection to the garbage disposal under the sink because I thought there was a clog somewhere. There was no clog. I ordered the part today and will have it in a few days but the error message should state that the drain pump could also be bad. My dishwasher is a 2012 model and has been great up until this issue. Great video thanks for posting.

    T, T and T, thanks for this, 42 bucks, 20 minutes work and my dishwasher is back in action. One other diagnostic symptom is that the water flow surges out of the airgap/drain hose instead of a steady stream. I also just tilted mine up on two pieces of wood so I didn't have to unhook the water supply etc.(drain hose was already unhooked). The mistake I made was when I clamped on the larger of the two hoses, I had the clamp end pointing to the floor. This scratched my wooden floor, so I tilted it back up and swung the clamp around so it didn't drag. Another symptom to tell if it's the drain pump is that you hear a high squeal during the drain cycle. It'll drain a bit and then squeal, then drain a bit more, then squeal.

      If nothing happens when you put it into drain mode, then I’d guess it means the motor is not getting power or the motor is bad. Try taking out the motor. I have a video showing you how without having to move the dishwasher at all. Once you get motor off, you’ll be able to see if the impeller is blocked by anything. The hoses (two) still shouldn’t be ruled out either.

    I HATE this LG dishwasher: LDF8072ST!
    We were moving and needed a dw fast so this was an impulse purchase. Will not spend 1 penny to fix. When needed, it will be replaced by a diff brand.
    How does a dw generate steam to clean & dry without a heating element? Did not realize this when I bought it.
    So far: racks started rusting after 3 yrs, trouble with drying, draining, soap disp, & racks fall off the tracks a lot. And only 1 type of soap pod fits in the dispenser. Liquid is useless.

      I would be angered as well if I had the same experience as you. I’m pretty happy with mine (LDF7551ST). Are you sure yours doesn’t have a heating element? I know a big misconception with LG dishwasher, or all Asian and European dw for that matter. I have visually seen the heating element when I was repairing my dw. I was shocked because when I purchased it, the misinformed salesman said it didn’t have a heating element. I have since looked at the parts list for this dw, and it indeed has a heating element. This dw still and always have dried my dishes really well. Maybe your heating element has gone out.

    Also, was your unit pumping any water out? Mine pumps water for about 3 seconds, then stops. After 15 seconds, it pumps a little more but never pumps out all the water. That cycle repeats a few times and eventually stops with an OE (or DE) error.

      Mine had the same symptoms. It pumped, but sounded like it was struggling. Didn’t pump all the water out, just some.

    I put a new drain motor in and it only worked once and now I'm back to the original problem. Do you think the hose is clogged or is the drain motor a faulty one?

    • @chicagohandyman
      @chicagohandyman  2 года назад

      Yes, a clogged drain hose is what I would look at next. I had to do it on mine that’s in the video. I bought 2 universal drain hoses from Home Depot. I replaced both the one that goes from the drain pump to a wye on the left hand side of the dishwasher. And then a 2nd one from the wye and to the sink drain line.

      Drain pump wore out, so it was at end of life. It would randomly sometimes barely pump. Circuit board would ultimately time it out and spit back the error code. Only solution is to replace the pump assembly.
