I am so thankful for this video. I am a 76 year old female. My LG was not draining, so I went searching on the internet for answers. I found lots of videos and yours saved me hundreds of dollars. I ordered the pump from amazon and installed it myself. My husband had to help with twisting it on - that should be a lot easier - and my tiny hands removed all the plugs, etc. etc. I did end up with a small bruise on my hand, but otherwise - IT WORKED!! I am always amazed and what people like you do for the rest of us with these kinds of videos. Keep up the good work....Oh - I also installed two bidets with great info from you tube. The plumber wanted $700 to install. My husband know calls me The Plumber instead of Tinybird.
Thank you thank you thank you! My dishwasher takes this same motor. It took all day to research to figure out what the problem actually was, but only took minutes to replace it. Works like a charm---went through entire wash cycle without any further issues. Drained completely and cleaned much better than before. This video was a godsend. $20 well spent...and saved me from having to buy an entirely new dishwasher!
This is so spot on, thank you. I scheduled a repairman to come out and he called me the day he was supposed to be here and said 'not worth the repair...' I asked him to explain and he said my model LG has to have the whole assembly replaced, and $300 in parts alone. He said I'm better off replacing the whole unit especially given the black friday sales. I said goodbye and ordered the part in your video ($32)... 10 min fix and seems to be golden. Thanks a bunch for saving me time and money and saving the earth from another unnecessarily trashed appliance...and now I know which repair service to never call again. Woot!
Thanks for the step by step video to replace the drain pump on my LG dishwasher. I had to use plumber's pliers to get the old pump off - I don't have the hand strength to turn it. After I got the pump removed, I found a wooden toothpick in the water reservoir that was probably the issue. I decided, since my dishwasher was 10 years old, to replace the part anyway. I used the pliers to turn the replacement pump into place and hooked up everything . Dishwasher tested and all is good. I'm so glad I didn't call an LG tech. Ordering the part from Amazon ($50) and replacing it myself saved me a lot of money. Took about 20 to 30 mins to replace. BTW, I'm a 67yr young female and I love to fix things. Anyone who is mechanically inclined can easily do this job.
This video described just what needed to be done for our dishwasher which was exactly the same make and model. It saved me a lot of time. I added one extra step. I removed the drain hose from the disposal unit and used a wet n dry vacuum to draw all of the water out of the pump. Never had a drop of water to clean up. Thank you so much for taking he time to create the video.
This video just saved me from getting scammed for almost $400. Called the service guy and they quoted me $100 for the pump and about $300 in labor. Thankfully, I have a little experience in automotive work so I had an idea of what mechanical parts should cost and immediately questioned their price breakdown. Of course when the repair company asked why I didn't want to move forward with the repairs they played dumb about the cost of parts and labor. The new pump is in now and is working great! Took me 10 minutes. Thank you for this!
I am SO glad that I found your video! Our dishwasher started blowing a fuse every time we turned it on. It was definitely the pump. I thought we would have to remove the whole pump and take the dishwasher apart but my husband was able to remove the pump motor as you did and replaced it with a $25 new one! No new pump - no new dishwasher. Thank you SO much.
Wow, great time saving method! Was about to pull out my dishwasher to replace the pump when I ran across your video. Used a shop vac to suck the water out of the dishwasher and channel locs to turn the pump motor housing. All done in about 10 minutes. Thanks for posting this!!!
This method worked for me! I was nervous that the drain pump was the issue, as the faulty and new one measured 4.8ohms. But your video detailing other things to watch for, like the high-shrill noise of the drain pump, and the standing water, made me get the new drain motor anyways. Dishwasher working great again!
Just wanted to thank you for posting a follow up video replacing just the pump and not the rest of the assembly. So much easier! I was about to pull out my whole dishwasher based on other videos that I’ve seen and then I ran across this one. So much easier and worked like a charm. Dishwasher is now quieter and no more OE errors. I did end up purchasing the entire assembly, but now I know and in the future I will just get the pump.
Awesome video! Repaired my LG Dishwasher, model #LDF7551ST, exactly as discribed in this video. My dishwasher was not draining when following the "drain" steps provided in the video. I bought the motor only through Amazon and reused the existing rubber seal. Total cost was about $22.00. Tip - my motor was super hard to take off. I was unable to do it by hand. I used a rubber strap wrench to take the motor off and put it back on. Otherwise, super straight forward as described herein. Thank you Tundra, Tools, and Tech! You're awesome! "Coffee" coming your way!
Great to hear!! Yes, that motor needs a lot of force to open. That rubber wrench would be the perfect tool to use. I would recommend holding onto the top half when doing so for anyone attempting this repair. Thank you for the coffees!
Thank you so much! We were able to change the drain pump on our LG LDF7774ST dishwasher without having to pull it out or call a repair guy thanks to your video! Only cost us a half hour of our time and $35 for the part. Enjoy a coffee on me!
I can’t thank you enough for this video! I ordered the part and replaced it. My husband was my assistant in turning the motor back into place!! Thank you so much!!
Needing this exact repair, I had watched your original video before ordering the part. When I went to look up the video again to perform the repair, I found this one! So much time and effort saved. Thank you!!!
Thank u my friend! I didn't order a new drain pump but I removed it just like in ur video to maybe see anything was in there that maybe be the cause of the pump not working and surely it was a piece of glass! Now the pump is working again! Thank u so much u save me a lot of money watching this video
Thank you, TT & T! Excellent video. My pump wouldn't even drain when putting into dr mode. I sucked all the water out with a shop vac before removing the pump as described in the video; no mess whatsoever. I then poured a few cups of water into the basin before screwing on the kick plate and ran another dr test cycle. I could hear the pump running and water leaving. Success! I owe you a beer my friend.
A great video that enabled be to change the drain pump on my LG dishwasher with a minimum of effort. The video was informative and helped me solve my problem and now it works like new...and nice not having to disconnect everything and move the unit out. Many thanks!
Thanks for this repair video. You saved me time and money as I was thinking about calling a repairman. I followed your video instructions and it worked perfectly.
awesome, three years later and still helpful. I didn't have any clearance underneath so pulled the unit out about 1 foot and shimmed the front legs to get me better access. I had to put the pump on three times: the first two leaked, and the third time I flipped the o-ring upside down and that did the trick. Sweet!
Thank you - I followed your instructions and … success! When I took the old drain pump off I could feel with my fingers how the old unit felt more difficult to turn the blades vs the new unit which spun freely, confirming the diagnosis of a failing drain pump motor.
Yes, a lot of torque!! For others attempting to do the repair.... support one half of the motor while using a screwdriver to turn the other half of the motor. Good luck!

I put my finger right through the drain hose inspecting the pump--it was so brittle from maybe a decade of scalding water. I replaced it with a big box 6' drain hose. It's maybe a foot too long, but works so far. The big box hose had larger openings so I installed it over the ends of the old hose after cutting out the spiral tubing. I did need to use a hack saw to remove the thicker part of the old rubber hose end connected to the drain pump.
Awesome video. You saved me a bunch of money. This was my exact problem. Do you or anyone know what part it is to replace the black seal/gasket. The unit doesn't come with a new one. my pump is SLOWLY leaking out water, not sure if it's always been the case, or if it started after replacing the pump. Thanks!
You have to buy the whole pump with the housing if you want the gasket. Why don’t u try to reseat the gasket first. I’d use some silicone grease to make sure it seats well.
Thank you for this video. I was able to successfully do the repair. However, this roughly 7 inch black plastic piece came off and LG is being difficult w/ providing me information regarding where it goes. It’s labeled Front on one side. Any ideas as to where it goes?
Thank you for your help! All the appliances today are called in marketing terms “Planned Obsolescence” . They want consumers to shell out $800-$1000 for a new dishwasher every 5 years because fixing a drain pump would cost $400 for a service repair man to come. So consumers do the calculus in their heads and figure well if I am going to pay $400 to fix it I might as well pay $800 for a new one .Well I can fix this for $30 myself.
So I had to fix an AE code which ended up being a grease and food bits plugged valve in the drain contraption on the left side of the washer. After that repair there was a new loud buzzing noise from the pump motor so using this video I was able to easily remove the pump motor and find the small piece of metal that must have gotten lodged there when I was fixing the other part. Anyway, back together quickly and now it's back to running fine.

Does the drain pump make a noise at all? If it’s making a buzzing noise and doesn’t sound like water is moving, it can be the pump or a clogged drain line. Replacing the pump might help. Unclogging the drain line can help too. I can’t tell you without looking at it. I’d suggest doing both repairs.

The pump was NOT making a whining or high-pitched noise. It DID sound like it was spinning but no water was heard draining. Hose wasn't kinked. I had just swapped it out 3 years ago. I measured 4.8 ohms between the two pins on left and right on both the old pump and on the new one I installed, so I don't know what's up there, if the old one was really bad or not, except that the new one does drain properly. I'm wondering if there was some kind of air pocket in the drain hose or something preventing it from draining. I'll mark the old one "may be good" , and test it again next time the pump dies.
Error code definitely. Although the error code could manifest because of a blockage in the drain hose. So it is 1 of 2 options. Easy to figure out. Good luck!!

Search your dishwasher model and look for a parts page. You’ll then be able to see what drain pump model you need.
But to answer your question, no, you cannot use any pump just because it’s for Lg. Use the exact part that you need.

How are you gonna drain it when the drain pump is bad? 😂😂
The drain pump doesn’t fully stop working. It works just enough to drain it for the repair.
My motor runs for 3 seconds and stops.
Doesn't drain, just runs and stops. Opened the motor but it seems fine. Doesn't make any noise. Do I need to replace it or is the problem somewhere else?
It’s probably your motor. Replace it.
Ok you're just replacing the drain pump. You're not fixing it. Huge difference
I see what you’re saying, but the pump not a serviceable part. Replacing it is the repair for this situation.
