Yeah but you gotta separate the comics from live action. Live action is hardly ever gonna be just like the comics. Hell Hawkman is also white in the comics even though he is the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian.
@@mrbrainchild7637 Excatly! thats why having Hawkman in this movie be Black is one change that makes sense due to Anvient Egypt being a Black/African civilization

Movie was awesome. I lol hard at Rock’s face superimposed on another body during flashbacks. I think all the negative reviews prepared me for the worst and it ending up being a lot better than I thought it would be.
One of the problems is the main antagonist is under developed. The boy can be a little annoying but not that much. Too many flashback scenes. There were good things about the movie. The good out ways the bad.
I had the misfortune of watching a single positive review before going to the cinema. Definitely wouldn't have been so harsh on this movie if I was expecting it to be shit. Although maybe I would have just never watched it.
Like I always say, slap Disney or Marvel on it and the same things that get other movies panned they will revere. Just look at the absolute dog 💩 as far as dialogue, plot and more in movies like Age of Ultron, end game, Guardians and a few others. And honestly, I enjoyed them for what they were for the most part, because I just want to be entertained and see some of this stuff come to life on the big screen. However, nitpicking and judging these Disney Marvel movies by the same standards that they apparently have anybody else, there's plot holes, corny dialogue and all types of garbage that they should be ripped apart for.
Just got out the theater. I liked the film but I definitely understand why some critics had issues with it. The pacing was all over the place & there was a ton of exposition. But I love rock as teth & pierce as fate 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Can’t wait for a sequel.

@@luffylength Ok, I thought I was the only one who thought that. It started with accountability then lost track and ended with even more collateral damage.
I'm glad martin brought it up, because it always bugged me that the rock is playing Black Adam. Like yea he has the muscles but its not like there arent big buff Egyptian people out there. It felt like the studio said who is the most famous beige person that we can get. It works in animations and video games because most Voice actors can pull off an accent, here The Rock (shockingly) is just playing The Rock Ok?... So apparently there are people in the thread completely misunderstanding what is being said. Yes Kahndaq is not a real place but it IS based on Ancient Egypt, that should seem simple enough. From environment to how its people look, Like legit and think why are the gods that comprise the name Shazam for him are all Egyptian ones.
@@majorharris2335 That's perfectly fair, I just think Black Adam's fans may not be fully happy since this isn't the Rock's character it's someone who has been in comics for decades.
Martin is wrong though because they had ZERO intentions of making a Black Adam movie until The Rock spear headed it. Kahdaq also isn’t Egypt. And the Rock is a Black Man. Killmonger and Tchalla weren’t played by African actors either
Tbf not only has he already played an Egyptian character in a movie more than a decade ago but the character of Black Adam was never Egyptian to begin with so I never understood that complaint. The only actual Egyptian character is Hawkman and they race swapped him for the better.
@@InfiniteFramesGaming It's not so much what the characters do but their overall image. In Black Adam, Hawkman is a Black guy with metal wings. In Avengers, Falcon is...a Black guy with metal wings. Stuff like that is what I'm talking about. Comparisons like that can be made throughout this entire movie.
Well it's kinda hard to do original superhero content nowadays because if you think about it, what hasn't been done already? Not trying to excuse cliches and unoriginal ideas but it's just not easy to come up with something "original" in such an oversaturated genre without being accused of ripping off of someone else's ideas. As someone who tries to write my own stories and create my own original characters, I know how challenging it can be. Not to mention some of these characters actually came before their marvel copycat counterparts like Dr.Fate, but I get where you're coming from though.
The post credit scene with Henry Cavill was already put online. That’s all I cared to see if it happened, and I think that’s the main highlight people cared about with this movie
Exactly, I thought fan service and nostalgic was a bad thing, when Marvel did that For Spiderman No Way Home and brought back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield back as Spidermen, they was talking shit talking, about how Marvel needs to rely on cameos, and nostalgia and fan service. Thank u, They did that one lil aas cameo now the Rock is Jesus Christ, don't get me wrong it was cool to see Superman again but calm down with the DC is back
The fact that they held the review embargo late just 3 days before the official release is very telling! When will The Rock finally work with some great directors & scripts and actually challenge himself like Bautista has for example?! Julian doesn't seem to get that spending 2/3 of your time critiquing something and the other 1/3 praising it doesn't equate to a 'High Full Price'!
@All In The Game I have been hearing from very credible reviewers that the movie is really good. As for Bautista what role has he done that was Oscar worthy? He basically plays the same type of role.
@@percybedford6266 if you believe that, then you're not paying attention to Bautista's performances. He's worked with Denis Villeneuve in Blade Runner 2049 and in Dune. He might've not been in the movie for long in Blade Runner but he definitely started the movie off really strong and set the tone. He's constantly working in different films and trying new things.
I think the movie also suffered from my issue with alot of super hero movies. Registering the base strength of your super people. For superman we had the scene of him pulling a boat, lifting up an apartment, etc. Flash we have him dodge bullets. I call it the trope of have a character pick up the car...we all know how heavy a car is...and based on that we know if the character did it easily, their strength is super human and thus we know or infer their durability. In the film hawkman took attacks from black adam...were supposed to fear black adam with the assumption he's too powerful...but if we have someone just as powerful durability wise...then what...of course, hawkman isn't and we have comparisons to superman's strength for adam but only cause we come in knowing that from comics. The movie universe is different. Spiderman is shown maxing out his strength picking up a collapsing building, overall I think movies need to do a better job of showing their hero's limits so we can get into the fights more unlike say a hulk hitting a normal human and them surviving, we need to show them being torn apart...
Thank you for this articulate description of power measurement. I hadn't thought about this element of superhero storytelling until you brought it up. But that is absolutely important to the investment in the vulnerability of a character both as heroes and villians.
Well they cant because think about if you had the big three of Justice league even just superman or even wonder woman thatbwouldve down played black adama power because he's an A level villain/anti hero so having another A level or multiple characters contain him would make you say well why the fuck is a character i gottavworry about. And maybe they would have the confidence and desire to do that if people these days didn't have the attention span of a goldfish. Not to mention that we can come up with a ton of questions for pretty much every damn comic book movie with that thinking. The funny thing is it only seems to be applied to certain ones. Where were all the questions about why in Ant-Man and the WASP there was not one mention of what was going on with Thanos or whatever? The dude was plugged in with everything else with the Avengers and such, but he's running around fighting some corny ass lightweight. Seriously, not one news broadcast, Avengers Assemble message or anything while Thanos is running around tearing shit up and got big ass ships rolling in. Oh yeah, they had to conveniently have it that way so they could spoon feed the sheep that absolutely stupid ass plot device where a random rat was the biggest hero out of all of the ones on screen LMAO. How about how we had the Scarlet Witch as this supposedly terrifying reality warping, world conquering threat reduce to chasing doctor strange and a little girl through the sewers like a random zombie or something. All that power and things she can do and she decides to just power limp behind them, reaching out at the air and gnashing her teeth. I have no problem with all the questions and calling out, but it seems to never, EVER be consistent
Just on a character level, Shazam is infinitely more interesting and likable. A young kid who's forced to act like an adult superhero is a clever and different premise within the darker DC Universe, but a sulky muscle man who wants to avenge his inner darkness is every other hero/villain in the DC Universe.
But plot point of him adapting to English, was loosely explained, by Dr Fate when they said that he more he is exposed he learns culture and adapts to his surroundings…even then nod to the western shootout…but like you said it was lazily done. At the end of the day there is character growth.
they could have explained it easily by saying the wisdom of Zehuti allows him to speak all the languages he hears. Someone like Dr Fate would be seen as an authority on these things and thus it wouldn't have to be mentioned any longer.

Is the story interesting enough for spoilers to matter? Black Adam becoming an antihero is very recent, like the 2010's. And I wonder how they can make a Black Adam vs. Superman movie interesting consider how Dwayne Johnson refuses to have his characters lose fights or be villainous.
There is an interesting twist before the climax regarding Black Adam's origin, the stuff we are told before wasn't the whole story. Too bad it was spoiled by one of the trailers...
You guys realize this is the 4th or 5th iteration of the JSA we've gotten so far? Yes, finally in a movie, but once again they're to just be side characters for another character. just saw it & it was a silly action packed generic superhero film where The Rock plays himself trying to act like Batista as Drax in parts. Even tho its from recent comics Still not used to BA bein an Antihero. Some Action scenes were fun & that post credits stinger was hype
This movie went to being a anti hero film for two reasons. One being the rock not wanting to be a villain because he thinks it will hurt his brand which is untrue because as an actor, you should want to try different roles and expand your range to be better,it's a reason why he made his own movie production so he can have a good grip on control and make sure damn near every character he plays is a hero or at best the anti hero instead of a villain. Two,Hollywood for some reason in general is very fixated on making every villain a sympathetic anti hero, cruella, joker, venom, Thanos, killmonger, Scarlett witch and etc for some reason. It's very rare a bit that you see a villain just being a villain especially with no explanation and just for the simple fact of they are crazy and like chaos.
I feel like The Rock shouldn’t have overhyped this movie cuz now ppl are going in w/ super high expectations and being disappointed. If you’re gonna say things like “this movie is going to change the course of the DCEU forever” you better deliver and they didn’t. Even Zalslav was like we’re focused on releasing quality while backing this movie hard and then it turns out middle of the road. Hopefully they can deliver something better in the future but idk. The accent issue can be explained by him using one of the shazam powers. Shazam has the wisdom of solomon...aka...he's super smart and adapts to stuff like language almost instantly after hearing it a few times. Sure the movie didnt even attempt to show dont tell this but that's the excuse. I wish he had one sec to say a word and see some magic around his voice and he learned their language but ehh.
@@ATakTakTak Ok, so i guess he did show don't tell. That said I guess you could say the helmet mixed with computer figures it out...Or they just know that reading signature etc. Dont agree with the 3 act coming out of no where but do agree that the movie felt done and they continued it...its the jaring end cut. But the whole movie screamed the crown meant alot and had to have a pay off. I think the unnecessary in fighting slowed things down and made hawkman unlikeable.
I don't understand how having the wisdom of Solomon makes him have an American accent. Easy fix for movie writer: Make him not speak until he see the western movie in Isis house, then show he got his accent from there.
@@Murf181Not saying it's a perfect excuse but I think you can assume he gains knowledge over the most common language or one of them hence english. He definitely used the power of solomon to know their language thou...I think the movie cut it again due to them thinking ehh no one cares...My best bet would be for them to do what they did in the genie movie (thousands years of longing or whatever) where he touches the tv and slowly learns their language or have some speak in the other language then they speak then he has magic appear over his mouth and he fixes till he gets the main accent...but then that confuses people who dont know shazam gets powers from zeus hercules etc and just think he's superman without lazer eyes or freeze breath. Overall, i think they had no way to win so they chose the easy out...ignore it.
@@ATakTakTak So i guess the movie did explain it but in show dont tell which IMO has gotten really confused with people who think its always best but get confused when it's done...show dont tell works for simple things we already know...from other films. AKA man loses children to a big bad...he crunches his teeth and looks fierce...we know he'll seek revenge...so telling us I WANT REVENNNNG doesnt work but having a character speak english and they are from another planet...we need to be told how...that one part where he speaks in his language without the powers wasn't enough for many since as you see, some got confused.

I'm glad martin brought it up, because it always bugged me that the rock is playing Black Adam. Like yea he has the muscles but its not like there arent big buff Egyptian people out there. It felt like the studio said who is the most famous beige person that we can get. It works in animations and video games because most Voice actors can pull off an accent, here The Rock (shockingly) is just playing The Rock
Ok?...
They didn't even give him any of the basic features of Black Adam like his pointy ears...
the thing is the rock has been wanting to do this role for a long time now. It's basically been a passion project for him.
Seriously, Warner Brothers didn't even try to make this different from Marvel.
And you see why they so full of themselves

How can they? Comic book characters do comic book shit.
@@InfiniteFramesGaming It's not so much what the characters do but their overall image. In Black Adam, Hawkman is a Black guy with metal wings. In Avengers, Falcon is...a Black guy with metal wings.

True
@Sir Christofer Braxton The difference is that the Rock won't let himself lose
The fact that they held the review embargo late just 3 days before the official release is very telling! When will The Rock finally work with some great directors & scripts and actually challenge himself like Bautista has for example?! Julian doesn't seem to get that spending 2/3 of your time critiquing something and the other 1/3 praising it doesn't equate to a 'High Full Price'!
@All In The Game I have been hearing from very credible reviewers that the movie is really good. As for Bautista what role has he done that was Oscar worthy? He basically plays the same type of role.
Because he has been successful doing things his way. Unfortunately his star power and great personality won't save this movie.

@@percybedford6266 Let me guess the "very credible reviewers" you've heard from just happen to be the ones that agree with you all the time?!
Straight facts all throughout my friend. How long of a damn movie do these people think that it should have been?

Iirc he only talked in his home language with subtitles when he lost his powers.
ISIS wasn't bad until they named a terrorist group that. ISIS even had a popular TV show in the late 70s or early 80s.
Out of all the interviews it was almost exclusively focused on The Rock didn’t see too many with the director like you would with other movies. The rock needs to let a director direct not hire a yes man.
He has too much of an ego!
I am totally down with seeing a movie where people just beat the shit out of each other. I might be alone, but I dont think we get enough action in any of these hero movies or shows (minus spider gang) anymore.
The hulk one wasn't a stinger, it happened while the movie was still playing
the rock finally found his calling of being the best superhero lol
This movie is just Dwayne Johnson playing The Rock as he wears a Black Adam costume
Lol, all his characters are Dwayne Johnson with a different outfit.
You surprised? 😂
Pretty much. Nothing to see here
We'll, that is what I paid for
@@kramermariav you can watch Jumanji or any other movie starring the Rock
