I remember Tim Burton saying this wasn't a remake,but a 're-imagining'. He should've imagined a better movie.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Oh snap 😮
It is Monkey 💩 is what it is
Holy shit 😮😂😂
Best comment ever😂!
Here's an ironic thing.
Tim Burton directed 2 Batman movies and later directed the 2001 movie.
And later.
Matt Reeves directed 2 Planet of the apes films and later directed The Batman.
Isn't that something?
Funny indeed. I think Matt nailed Apes alot better than Tim. BTW the writers on this, made Superman IV. Yikes.
@@Joecbg100wow that is something 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Interesting, didn't notice that lol 😄 😄.
@@CLDJ227 Actually 3 Apes movies before he did The Batman.
Weird how things turn out
This movie is the GODZILLA 98 for the PLANET OF THE APES franchise
Lol I remember having a couple toys from both films
You absolutely nailed it
Perfect summary of where this fits in. Both are the black sheep, but only one, kind of made people Godzilla fans. This just made the Planet of the Apes even more uninteresting to people back in the 2000s
@@MalikDAKingI was terrified of the actors in the costumes when I was little. I gave the movie a chance when I got older, and was ticked we were left on a cliffhanger.
I saw both them shits at the movies when I was a kid. I had a fun ass time, bro. 😂
I remember seeing this in theaters and I'll never forget My Uncle calling the Female Chimp Michael Jackson lol.
Got a light skin ape, that looks like Michael Jackson.
Got a dark skin ape, that looks like Michael Jackson.
You know Mark Walhburg got called out for saying the female ape looked like Janet Jackson. Almost messed it up for the movie.
And don't you ever let anyone call him racist for it .... because that shit is accurate 🤣
I always saw the chimp as Janet Jackson😭

Apebraham Lincoln. I dont think they even told Wahlberg that was going to be up there. Cause his reaction was like "WTF is that shit?!"
Then again, Mark Wahlberg has a bad case of resting "WTF is going on" face. 🤣

Epic ending, I want to see that sequel more than the reboot we have now. It a shame movie being hated and I didn't know until people make video critic and a lot of people on Internet was on board.
Tim Burton, gifted as he is, accidentally helped shape the last decade of major studio films when you think about it: superhero movies with Batman ‘89, and live-action Disney remakes with Alice in Wonderland. And I suppose this too was a major step forward for remakes and reboots. Which is a shame for someone whose best work is so uniquely his own.
He both tipped the scales in both great superhero stuff and souless cash grabs using the name only. PERFECTLY balanced.
Tim Burton sucks.
Lmao Wahlberg deadass got mad at Andy over that SNL sketch. 😅
Man he always mad. He need to get mad at what he did to them kids back in Boston
@@DeeSee25It was an Asian dude I thought ,he blinded him ,tried to apologize a couple years ago dude didn't want the apology lol 💀
Billy's laughter, Martin's cackle and Korey's giggle are the only things that kept me going while revisiting the worst Tim Burton movie
I mean this is bad, but it ain’t his worst, Dark Shadows and Alice in Wonderland kinda beats it on that level.
@@gcolbyp facts
The little sound effects that Korey adds while describing movies is low key funny.
@@gcolbyp True, you'd think out of everyone Tim Burton would be the most qualified to do these kinds of movies, right?
Billy is annoying with his fake forced laugh
I remember finding the screenplay for this movie in a bookstore when it came out, and discovered they didn't include the ending out of fear for spoiling it for audiences. Then after I saw that ridiculous Ape-raham Lincoln statue in the movie, I realized it wasn't in the screenplay book because it was actually a fucking stupid idea for an ending that would have made people livid if it got spoiled on the Internet beforehand.
Tim Burton had some nerve to end this movie on a cliffhanger, which he never bothered to resolve. Thanks a lot, Tim.
I remember him saying in the DVD commentary that he wasn't really setting up anything. It was just his version of the 1968 film's twist ending.
Maybe Paul Giamatti’s role in this was the prototype for his role on 12 Years a Slave.
The OG Mark Wahlberg talking to animals, featuring Aperaham Lincoln
Hey Apes how you doing? Say hi to your mother for me.
Here’s my questions if the apes on the planet are descendants of the apes that were on the ship, then where the hell did all the horses come from?
Yup. You would have to say either they also had horses on the spaceship for some reason or that the planet had horses on it already.
Don’t think too hard. They came from the ground lol
(I think there’s a comic that explains it as well, but I don’t count them)
I mean. Does it take the effort to make sense of this movie lol
Its pretty obvious that this was a Post apocalyptic Earth. The portal only sends you to the future.
That was just an alt-version of Earth where human evolution didn't quite go all the way, and we were ape-like idiots, while the other apes got the good perks.
"Why would they put that Miami Vice music during the trailer?"
- Martin 😆 🤣 😂
It's interesting how many celebrities were apes in this movie. Tim Roth, Michael Clarke Duncan, Helena Bonham Carter, Paul Giamatti, Cary Hiroyuki-Tagawa, Charlton Heston. There was a de-emphasis of this for the newer movies, and if they already had a profile, it was much lower. The celebrity appearances were mostly human roles, which in a series that focuses more on the apes, I'm glad they didn't try to over stuff it with celebrities to sell it. Less distracting.
No mention of how HBC looked like MJ in that makeup and costume 😂
Best she ever looked
It's terrifying 😢
She's way more enjoyable than that blonde
Even Dan o Shea did that joke
Ikr. I knew someone in the comments would catch it
Tim Roth and Paul Giamatti are really fun in this movie, and there make up is perfect
they are the best things. I did like the whole Stargate opening of the apes iconography and past.
Say what you will about the movie, but the make up design was absolutely fantastic
Shame it’s attached to such a crap movie
@@Planag7 I don't care about the story. The story is crap and terrible. It's absolutely beautiful and fine the way it is
That chimp is better than Mark as an astronaut. He actually landed the ship instead of crashing.
Tim roth was one of the best things about this movie if not the only good thing
Michael Clarke Duncan too
@@spicymemes7458 yup him too

Ironically, the ending is not that different from the original ending in the book.
The book didn't have Ape Lincoln, though. 😂
Wait all of this is based off a book? Never knew that
@@kameronwright9925 very loosely based
The best thing about this movie is that interview with...Steve Harvey maybe? He was talking about interviewing Michael Clark Duncan and how as a black man, dressing up as a gorilla might not be the right move. Then Duncan explained how much he was getting paid and Steve was like "where do I sign up?"
The film's greatest mistake was how generic it was. Tim Burton is a great director when he works on his own original material. It's when he tries to do big budget franchise films that things fall apart for him. It's just not for him unless you give him free reign. This is why I will always say Batman Returns is better than the 1989 Batman. At least Batman Returns feels unique. It's incredibly gothic in all the right ways. The OG with Jack felt GENERIC.
You would think Tim Burton being the great visionary that he is, he would do "something" with the Planet of the Apes. Turns out he should've stayed as far away from it as possible.
Welcome to how I felt about his Alice in Wonderland movie. You'd think he would be a shoo-in for a movie like that in terms of visuals, but it's just another prophecy story.
@@michaelstrong5383 this and Alice are the worst examples of how to do an adaptation and from the same guy no less. Sad.
And this is the worst among them. I’m one of the very few people who actually likes Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for example, but projects like Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo are bottom tier Burton
Batman 1989 is far from generic imo. 😂
Say what you will about this movie, but the sets and practical effects are some of the best ever put to film. Jackson's LOTR is probably the only one that's better.
Good Effects mean nothing with a crappy script.
Not really, Ric Baker failed spectacularly on the make-up effects for ALL the female apes.
“Can’t we all just get along” was also used in Tim Burton’s MARS ATTACKS!
This movie was horrendous
But between Billy's and Martin's laugh, it was worth it all these years later 😅😅
This channel! Always makes me happy when sad. Just joy all around
I saw this in theaters when I was 14 or so. I walked out bewildered of what I just watched. The only thing I remember is the ending. Wasn't a good ending by any stretch but it was the most interesting thing in the film and that's a problem. When Rise came out, it was a huge surprise of how good it was. Then Dawn did it even better.
The chimp noises are killing me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Tim Burton is always at the circus" is the best summation of Tim Burton movies.

This movie will always have a place for me. I remember my family taking us to see it in theaters when I was around 6 or 7.
I remember the beginning, the ship crashing, when we first see the apes, the scene when Mark Wahlberg first entered the city of apes, the two kiss scenes at the end, Paul Giamatti saying "I'd like to thank you" and that bonkers ending 🤣 🤣.
Everything else is vague lol, although with the ending I remember as a kid being upset because I wanted to see if Mark Wahlberg got arrested. Whereas being older I'm with everyone else in thinking that the ending makes no sense 😆 😆.
They wanted to explain that it in a sequel that never came. Nevertheless, I agree that this film has some fun parts. Had it not been made so quickly it could have been a fun action movie with memorable costumes, and makeup that will always hold up better than cgi.
Lastly, I wasn't expecting Korey to reference the Steve Harvey joke about Michael Clark Duncan being in this 🤣 🤣.
It at least doesn't look or feel like a Tim Burton movie. It definitely feels more like a generic block buster.
I expected you to do something for Mother’s Day, but this works too with the new Planet of the Apes film out.

Who else was Michael Clarke Duncan (RIP) going to play other than a gorilla? I can imagine him meeting with Tim Burton to discuss being in the movie.

Time really does change your perception of things doesn't it?
You were a kid so you can be forgiven.
To settle this whole "is this remake set on Earth" thing like the original, no it's not. It's on another planet all together. The writers envisioned this whole mythology and background and even the name: ASHLAR. All cut out in either editing or the script was put into a shredder machine and then you get this fucking mess.
The ends is just a set up for something to do down the road or as Burton said "let them figure it out". He wanted out so i think Thade found a way back to operate the machinery in the pod but i dont buy that as he's not smart enough and he went through the same wormhole Marky Mark did and it's Ape-Washington DC in the past of......the same planet he never visited.....wait is that implying he went to Earth in the past or just another planet? See i'm confused.
That’s why I prefer the novel, as it dropped the pointless cliffhanger ending.

It's always wild to me when they do a novelization for a movie that's based on a novel. I remember there was a novelization for Bram Stoker's Dracula in 1992, and I was like 'I thought they said they were trying to stay more faithful to the book with this movie...they put the author's name in the title and everything...but apparently, Bram Stoker's Dracula still needs a companion novel by someone other than Bram Stoker?' 😆

I just re-watched the new trilogy over the weekend, it's so good.
Last time I saw this movie, I was just a kid. I gotta go back and rewatch it as an adult.
Can’t we all jus get along 😭
holy fuck
He used that same joke in Mars Attacks with President Jack Nicholson to the aliens lol
The question has always been: WTH was that ending supposed to mean? Astronaut way out in space jumps through an anomoly, int o the future of the alien world below them. Passing the chimp who went first by days and the command ship preceeded the astronaut by thousands of years. Right? Then the astronaut leaves the planet, jumps not only through time but space to arrive presumably on our modern Earth that has also been overrun by Thade in the past? That space anomoly is a "whatever the hell I need in the script" device.
Tim Burton had to go to space in order to get away from Danny Elfman's oompah band. But Danny found him in the end.
It surprised me so much that this "Planet of the Apes" was not nominated for Best Makeup at the 2002 Academy Awards. "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings", "A Beautiful Mind", and "Moulin Rouge!" were nominated that year, with "Lord of the Rings" winning. Even if "Planet of the Apes" had lost that award to "Lord of the Rings", it should have at least been nominated over "A Beautiful Mind".
I think its because of how inconsistent the makeup effects were across the whole movie. The male apes looked fantastic, they looked very much like real apes. The female apes on the otherhand, were hideous, a completely fake looking turd.
I saw Planet Of The Apes and Godzilla ‘98 at the movies when I was a kid.
They called these movies bad but I had the best theater experience watching them. Lots of fucking fun fr. 😅
Lmao same here I'm glad I'm not the only one especially this was the first planet of the apes I had saw didn't see the others later on until I had got cable which was expensive in the 90s and early 2000s compared to today.
I have nostalgia for both of those but in recent years watching reviews and really diving into cinema i can see why people shit on those movies. I still enjoyed them though
They literally spending the whole video talking about one scene like damn dudes lets get things moving along.
Although not all of Tim Burton's films are great, he does have his own distinctive filmmaking style. Burton is not for everyone, but he is an Auteur, and hopefully one day he'll create another beloved film.
This was actually my introduction to the franchise. I know it’s not great but kinda wished there was a sequel. Fun fact, the actress that played Nova in the original movie was in this. It was a quick non-speaking role, where she’s in a cage with Mark Wahlberg’s character and other captured humans. Honestly, you wouldn’t know it was her unless you saw the original, and knew exactly how the actress looked after 30+ years at the time this premiered.
Ditto, i had no idea what this was at when it was out. Picked up the original DVD box set when it was released, didn't even put this on unless to listen to Tim try and fail to be informative on his DVD commentary. lol
Amazing costumes and the acting from paul is perfect. He was the only one that could actually speak with the monkey teeth and he was totally believable in his costume. all without garbage CGI
17:20 😂😂😂
I watched this Movie along with the other Apes movies in preparation for Kingdom. And this is the only bad Planet of the Apes movie. Tim Burton had no idea what the hell he was doing. But the suits and costumes were really good in this one. Sadly that's the only good thing about this.

I remember Paul Mooney hilarious take on this movie
The worse the movie (and the more serious it feels about itself) the better these Roasts are.
Say what you want but Tim Roth absolutely killed it in this movie. I remember not liking the movie but being thoroughly impressed & even legitimately bothered by his performance.
He reminded me of Ralph fiennes in Schindler’s list with the absolute disdain he had for the lessers.
I would have gone with “Beneath the planet of the apes” for a roast imo. Given that Taylor was hardly in it. And the ending is a complete downer.
Beneath was still better than this lowkey
Escape is my favorite sequel but it lends to some good comedy.
I agree Beneath, along with Battle, is probably the worst movie of the original series as the first-half, especially, feels like a second-rate retread of the first (as does Brent with all due respect to the actor). However, to me, that ending was one of the bright spots of the movie. Sure, it's definitely bleak/dark, so I get if it's not necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but personally, I loved that ending as a kid as I found it it even more disturbing/shocking than the original with that ending narration living rent-free in my head.
Yup. Escape obviously has a wacky premise, but once the story gets cooking I think it's very enjoyable as an inverse/flip of the original premise, and by the end, I think it's the best of the original sequels along with Conquest.
17:19 Hilarious!!! 🤣😂
This is Girls Gone Wild 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This started the downfall of Tim burton
The true beginning of the remake/sequel craze that has taken over Hollywood. The 1968 version is unbeatable. But most kids who grew up with this like it better because they can't handle good non-CG effects. I saw a reaction to the original version where the reactor laughed at the way the apes looked in the Charlton Heston version. This generation has been poised by bad, fake effects.
This movie is mostly practical. Not that much CGI.
The 1968 version is still good, but the new (rise, dawn, war, and kingdom)films are way better. In effects and storytelling.
This really doesn't feel like a Tim Burton movie not even one of his bad one's, Like the biggest example was casting Mark Wahlberg instead of Johnny Depp, like even if he was busy Johnny Depp would have done the movie for Tim Burton......It's like a movie from a different universe where Tim Burton was worse then Roland Emmerich.....No matter what they can't make a worse planet of the apes than this right????!!!!!
Damn this movie is shot dark. I have the brightness maxed, and I can't make out jack shit from the clips.
Might need to watch it on a screen buddy lol

I was curious about what your thoughts on Charlton Heston’s cameo on this film. I thought it was a pleasant surprise, seeing him as an ape in this movie and the change to his iconic line “damn them all to hell!”
It's pure nostalgia bait. Made me die a little inside when they mad him say that line in this terrible movie.
I absolutely love your show. I watch AND listen to y'all all day, everyday. You guys are the best!!
I think the fact that the humans were still intelligent and could talk pretty much destroyed the original premise. Thank god the Remake series fixed that with the virus idea.

I get it your just roasting this movie but the movie clearly said that all the apes were genetically altered with human genetics to increase there intelligence. It very early on in the movie , the lab lady gives the exposition
I don’t think that would be that well remembered. Besides, that’s still not that much of an explanation. That’s something that the later movie arise actually showed in full.
