“What a wonderful day!” Is what I told my parents after I came back from the theater.
What a wonderful review! Is what I tell the toasties specially Martin Thomas. I agree with everything he said. For me this is better than Dawn and War

“WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!!!”
I keep thinking this is an ad for furiosa when it comes up on my radio.
"Where we can learn to live and play. And get along with each other"
Disney always gets praise for using realistic CG ( Since Lion King) to the point they call their remakes "live action". Yet Planets of the Apes have consistently raised the bar for CG animals that this franchise should be the only one worth receiving the title of live action.
I... don't think Disney is getting praised for it. Lion King itself has been heavily criticized for the fact that the characters themselves, while looking photorealistic, look lifeless. In contrast, like you said, with Planet of the Apes, they've raised the bar, and have been able to create characters that are suuuuper expressive.
Disney gets praise? No they don't, no one praises Disney for anything they do not even if they get it right. Disney is universally hated
@@thedefinitionisthis I agree with you, it's still sad that Disney can get away with calling their remakes live action and a lot of media will run with it simply due to photorealism (which is becoming worse for each film).
The Jungle Book remake has amazing animation tho.
This movie is more live action than lion king.
They criminally underused Proximus.
I think he may still be alive.
@@ghostme1635Damn it, he did fall from a lethal height into crashing waves. Which means he's definitely alive. I hate that they'll do this.
@@cokeMONSTERps3 yeah I know what you mean.
The movie could have been better also didn't care for the human girl at honestly she's the real villian in this movie
Man, this brings back flashbacks of the Rise of the Planet of the apes review, with Martin and Corey arguing about the movie
you meant Dawn For The Planet Of The Apes
That was for Dawn For The Planet Of The Apes
It was derivative...
And then Planes 2 happened. 😂😂😂
They argued over Dawn and Martin won!
Martin: Ceasar wasn't epic in his first movie .
Me: wtf you talking about? I still get chills from when he screams no and leads the rebellion. He was epic, Martin.
"Take your stinking paws off me,you damn dirty ape."
"NOOO!!!!!!"
Malfoy:👁️👄👁️
He wasn't epic, he was lovable and relatable, he didn't become epic until later.
@@parareefaelias656 The moment he rebelled was EPIC.
@@iitvoii Thank you. Someone with a brain gets it.
His shout of “No!” and him fighting on the bridge made him the best ape hero in cinema history
Raka was the stand out in my opinion 😢.
Together strong
I liked him a lot in the movie
Saw this in IMAX and Dolby. All of the movies have great moral compasses but Kingdom takes the spirituality of Gods creations to a whole other level. To see how a random window design on Caesar’s childhood bedroom window become a symbol as powerful as the cross was a remarkable journey this new movie solidified
Koba: Caesar weak!
Caesar: Koba weaker.....
Both Godzilla and Apes had movies this year. Apes goes back to 1968 and Godzilla to 1954. Two of the oldest and longest lasting franchises in history are still going strong.
Now to that point with regards to Apes, speaking of the 1968 film and all the other older ones, is that where this potential new apes franchises heading? They tease with a telescope in this movie and I’ve seen some interesting theories around that.👀
Korey is right that studios ain't calling the shots on this movie. They will fuck this up if they have the chance. 😒
Plenty of films are bad without studio interference. Execs can help. Good films are a group effort not one part. It’s why execs that watch films or like source material hire others who do and it turns out good.
This movie,Dune pt 2, the fall guy and even animated comic book movie's like Spiderverse and TMNT mutant mayham is why we still go to the movie theatre's.......And also when Disney actually allow thier creative teams to use CGI to it's full potential they can get all the praise they want, It's almost like Disney should let thier creative team's be creative because you got to spend money to make more money
Korey saying he predicted something at the end as if it was a negative is just weird to me. Sometimes the logical progression of things is just that. Not everything needs to be twisty.
If something is predictable that just means it’s the most logical and correct storytelling path
Yeah, there's a strange belief that everything needs to be unpredictable with a twist. People forget the whole point of foreshadowing and narrative crafting is pay off for piecing things together.
He usually says that critic but sometimes I scoff at it then watch said film and eat crow lol he can be right.
No, there's a difference between a plot twist and a well written story ending that you can't predict.
@@ugoddessthepoet yeah, so true. Not sure if korey just watches too much tv too. Sometimes he and martain guess endings and i don't and vise versa just gotta see for myself. XD
10 films in, Apes franchise still going strong
Apes together strong
56 Years In
Well, not all of them were strong apparently even if the franchise has still lasted
Apes together strong
Noah does a good job,but Caesar is Caesar..And there's only ONE Andy Serkis!!!!
bro as an animator he looks down on us :( so im 5050 with him
@storybored3 Why must it be a competition?
Caesar is awesome, but Noa is my favorite.
In first movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, you can see on a tv in the background that two astronauts went to space. In the 3rd movie, the apes settled by a lake at the end of the movie. I wish this movie was more about that (and have the antagonist ape win and gets what he wanted), then in the 5th have the astronauts (after they hit a time wormhole) come back after the apes had made an advance civilization, harking back to the original 1968's Planet of the Apes movie.
I saw it. They told a good story, which is rule one for movies. A rule Hollywood should follow more often.
I was not expecting Nova to be such a savage.
It ain't Nova, it's a girl called Mae. And by savage, I hope you mean jackass.
Gets saved multiple times by Noa and apes like him, and she still has the gall to start yapping about humans being more deserving.
She is ??? Haven't seen the film yet, plan to see it sometime next week.I also may see Abigail too.
@user-be7tc2bd6e trust me. The woman gives no f's and does WHATEVER is necessary.
HE is. Noa is the chimp. 🙄
@@user-be7tc2bd6eWon't spoil anything for you, but the term savage in this context isn't referring to what you think it is. That's all I'll say!
Lately, it is interesting that a series of films about apes does a far better job in conveying various aspects of the human condition than does many straightforward films only featuring human characters
23:59 Korey that transition was so damn smooth Martin ain’t even notice at first 💀💀💀
I live for the segways.
Im still wondering about Ape culture. Got so many like, is there a caste system in place? Do Chimpanzees frel as though their better than the other apes because Caesar was a Chimp? Do they have interspecies relationships? Do their societies still echo the primates more primal social hierarchies depending on the species of the leader of the group? Like does a gorilla lead his society like a gorilla troop and do they still fight for mates? So many questions.
It's stupid...
@@beezusHrist get out 😂
@@SupportGamin2024 it is stupid. Why not just make a fantasy movie with humans in it? Humans are already apes. I don't understand the appeal of this movie
An interesting thing I noticed in Kingdom is a surprising lack of Gorillas and Orangutans. Outside of Roka, I don't think there is a single other Orangutan in Proximus' Kingdom? I couldn't spot a single one, and I counted probably single digit amounts of Gorillas. It's odd, and makes me assume that the Ape species have started to segregate so much that there aren't even any Orangutans or Gorilla clans left in the nearby area for Proximus' army to take. Orangutans I imagine are all essentially Lawgiver types and are too smart to fall for the bullshit of a charismatic dictator like Proximus, and left faaar away while there was still a chance to. They must have radically different cultures wherever they are currently. Since even in Kingdom, the different Chimp tribes already have vastly different cultures from one another.
@@SupportGamin2024 it's pretty dumb. Humans are already apes
23:58 Martin's reaction was also mines. I was like wait what? 😂
I just came back from the theater watching this. And I loved it! It looks great! The story is good! What could have been corny and silly ends up being complicated. The characters are interesting. And the world-building....Off the chain! This is a world that I would love to see explored more!
People are going to be quoting Proximus Caesar.
What a wonderful quote! What a wonderful day!! Just Proximus and Raka makes this a full price, but the characters and visuals make it a better than sex.
I'm really love the hell out of the trilogy of the last decade and while I kinda expected this one to not be as well received as those films are, I'm glad it seems to be another case of "they didn't fuck it up." One note about Martin's talk about how awesome the composition was, Andy Serkis was interviewed about the movie and he gushed about how awesome the concept art for it was.
Apparently, William H. Macy is in this movie. I now have an amusing visual in my head of an ape saying his lines from the movie, Fargo. "YA DARN TOOTIN'!"
As what character I might just see him as frank Gallagher as an ape
@@themarsman5155he’s human.
@@AndyMFX505 - So he plays a human? Well, darn. He could probably say “ I’m cooperating here!” as he gets rounded up by the apes.
After the movie I thought:
What a wonderful day!!!
I notice there's a Ape with a mask in this film, I'm curious how he will convey.
This was a pretty fun movie. The graphics and scenery was just incredible. In the third act there was a point I was worried that we were about to go to Battlefield Earth but glad it didn't.
If this is what we're going to be getting out of movies made by Wes Ball, my interest in the Legend of Zelda movie has gone from having my curiosity to now having my attention.
Unlike Lion king (2019) you can actually tell what they feel
Such a weird comment 😂 apes are not lions… dear god
@@tamaracharese even than compare how this Movies to the new Mufasa movie.
@@Ermington321 they work on the movie up till release. It’s not finished.
@@tamaracharese yeah but in trailers they show parts that are already finished
@@Ermington321 no it doesn’t, that’s not how it works. Sometimes the trailer scenes don’t even make it to the movie. It’s not finished when it starts promotion. I know animators who’ve confirmed this. I’ll ask them about movie and they’ll tell me they are finishing up their scenes for it up till premiere.
Noah? That’s two blockbusters in less than a year with the lead male is named Noah. The other being Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
I definitely enjoyed it, and love that the franchise continues from the first trilogy to what appears to be the next trilogy. It was fun to see the nods to the original 1968 film! Full price, definitely!
I agree with the "Slightly below" grading comment. I think they should've gave us more details into Caesar's death. Like a back story that led up to his death, his final words or wishes for his Apes. Who was from his lineage or generation? I though Noah was Caesar's great, great great grandson. We've transitioned from Caesar's ARC to Noah's ARC (pun intended) Like, I think we needed more details into why the "The Mad Ape King" became the king with this idealism of conquering in the name of Caeser. Who's his lineage? Parent, grandparent apes
> I think they should've gave us more details into Caesar's death. Like a back story that led up to his death, his final words or wishes for his Apes.
Are you talking from the perspective of the characters?
We saw Caesar's entire story and saw all of the events AND HIS DEATH in the last moments of War for The Planet of The Apes?
Are you confused?
The greatest film series ever. Been watching them from the very beginning, had the action figures, watched the tv series as well. Planet of the Apes film series still running strong after all these years
The man who played Jaka (Peter Macon) was on "Shameless" with William H. Macy
Did they really design Proximus Caesar after Elon Musk or is that a shitpost?
The actor who plays proximus looks like Elon musk as it is, and said he took certain aspects of him to play the villain 🤭
Impossible. Proximus seems way more competent.🤣🤣🤣
Proximus speaks clearly and with bravado. Elon can barely open his mouth.
I can't wait to see where they take this franchise
"I know these Apes! What are you doing?!" No cap, I felt some type of emotional and empathetic connection with Eagle Ape tribe they were isolated and clueless from the origins and the real dangers.
I liked proximus Caesar he just approached things slightly wrong. Instead of being a dictator he could have been a phenomenal leader that just brings all of the apes together. His problem though he let that human girl walk around freely there should have always been an eye on her. I wish the movie would have ended with the girl getting away with the hard drive but also with the apes getting into the vault without it getting filled with water. I wish they would have been able to stop the explosion that way the apes could have learned how to read and use technology to catch up to the humans that were still alive knowing how to use technology.
Lawd I thought they said Kevin Durant was in this lmao
300 years passed from Cesears time
Its 300 years later.
I never even heard a whisper of the movie's existence, let alone a trailer, until you uploaded this review. I had loved seeing Dawn on the big screen.
The water scene at the end! Amazing realism.
I just rewatched the last apes trilogy and that shit even better than I remembered. If they can do anything close to that again... 👏👏👏
I feel you martin. I thought this was the best out of all too..
Korey looking jacked and Martin looking dapper cant wait to see this movie!
Korey accidentally jumped ahead to the third film in this new trilogy with "Beyond the Planet of the Apes" where they invent intergalactic space-travel. He walked it back though, so were good.
I think he was getting muddled with the next Spider-verse film lol
Its crazy how this new timeline has 4 films and all of them are great and theres gonna be 5 more of these.
I recognized Peter Macon's voice because of The Orville
Saw this in IMAX. It was an experience. I'm looking forward to this trilogy
Did you get the little Early Screening poster they handed out at my Imax? It's pretty sweet.
I went to Imax twice one with my mom and another with my partner in crime and now I want to see it in dolby, the water scenes in particular and the fur of the apes ...it's great.
What a day! WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!!
Try 300 years. But yeah same deal.
This guy's work on the Sarah Connor Chronicles and now this is making me really want this director to helm Marvel's X-Men movies
This will be one of the best films of 2024! 🔥🔥🔥
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY!!!
All are great but if I were to rank them.
1. Dawn
2. Rise
3. Kingdom
4. War
Thank you. War is overrated to me
War is the best one 😢
If i were to rank them dawn, war, then rise for me, but i haven't watched Kingdom yet.
Damn, I thought War was great. It has the wrong title, but the film itself was good.
What's so great about any of them?
I decided to go see this this morning. It was pretty great not groundbreaking, but worth the matinee.
The king keeps reminding me of Denzel Washington. The way he moves his mouth like when Denzel say alright alright
I didn’t know they were hundreds of years in the future. I thought that Noah was Caesar son.
300 years
So glad you liked it. This movie worked on all levels for me, damn this franchise is just so good. And the ending! A true treat for longtime planet of the apes fans
Saw Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with my older sister Jennifer
Worth the wait
It’s a worthy continuation of the beloved series although it’s not quite up there with the previous rebooted trilogy
It’s more of a slow-burner that really does let you sink into this world
A lot of questions the film provides revolve around legacy, survival, compatibility, and tribalism
With great historical figures there exists legacy but it can be properly remembered or easily twisted to use for gain
Should a species go back to being silent?, is it better to not tell us everything and shape history the way we want it to?, can two species live side by side?, maybe staying silent means staying safe, nothing is ever easy, no choice comes without risk
Noa is a great leading ape wanting his own clan back from being ruled, Mae serves as a good human as the first who can speak fully in over many generations, and Raka is a very insightful, wise orangutan
The film is so beautiful looking with the post-apocalyptic environments to the CGI motion capture of the apes themselves
The digital effects have come such a long way bringing them to life and showing their facial expressions showing their emotions
There’s plenty of small nods and callbacks to previous films yet this is still able to stand on its own
It genuinely feels like what the 1968 original accomplished back then
I was even surprised with the ending showing what director Wes Ball has in store for the future
Since the Moses story is finished who knows what else awaits for a franchise that’s endured for nearly 6 decades
Like the apes this series remains strong
Toasties together strong
For the longest I thought he was saying Kevin Durant.
Dawn of the Apes is still my favorite Double Toasted review. 😂
Saw it last night. This is maybe a low rental for me. I found this one to be a bit boring and have less to say than the other movies before them
It was good not great I’ll say a solid 8 I want more movies
This movie was amazing!!!
It was an amazing Birthday present for me.
Of all the reviews I have watched about this movie. You guys review is the most positive. I am seeing this tomorrow. From London with love ❤️ stay toasty. 😊
5th movie …. The astronauts they teased in the 1st film need to come back. Full circle time
I generally try to avoid trailers for movies that I'm anticipating. Glad I voided the ads with this one because they gave a way a lot!
I agree with Martin 100%. This is better than Dawn and WAr and for someone who loved Dune Part 2 more than you guys THIS ONE IS BETTER THAN DUNE PART 2. More emotions, better characters, more development, and the action is more thrilling because I care for the characters.
Think they could’ve done more with Proximus he was so interesting Noah is like a Cesar mimic Proximus was just a breath of fresh air …but they set it up nicely a group of intelligent apes never fails
I love to see that other people love these movies.. I don't have friends that are into movies like this and I'm like, "How the hell are people not hyped on this?!?"
Its like starting campaign 2 of a dnd podcast you got really into. Your wanting to hit the high campaign 1 immediately but its a new story and got to wait to build momentum.
For me, I give this movie a solid full price but everybody else might see at High Matinee worthy
Martin wearing that mocap shirt
You guys do such a great show. Going to see this tomorrow.
I def agree with korey's take. It's good, but it just doesn't quite hit as the first 3 because we watched caesar from the very beginning. This film basically in a way starts over hundreds of years after caesar, his direct offspring and theirs have long been gone. We have a new set of characters and a new set of problems. Im curious to as to what direction it will guide itself into.
Watch the review up to when they said the cgi was great, stopped watching went to see the movie and agree the movie is good the cgi is amazing
Excellent film. I hope Raka returns for the next installment. We heard a grunt at the end. I believe either he or Proximus will return. I hope it’s Raka. I love wise old sage characters. Peter Macon played Raka. I feel like the podcast host is comparing this one film to the entire Caesar trilogy. This is the beginning of the book of Noah. I love those and I love this one. Best film of the year so far.
This movie was so good I wanted it to be longer 😢
I’m so glad I saw the movie before I saw the review because this would’ve upset me SPOILER 31:13 - 31:19
Honesty loved Kingdom, Not as good as Rise or Dawn, but that's alright because it's a fresh new start with Noa after the Caesar arc which makes a whole lot of sense. Take it slow, build up the new characters first, and later they'll get their big climax. Perfect choice.
I was so upset about how they spoke. It was generations later and felt like they regressed and made the humans smarter. Or I guess some humans smarter.
Disagree. The apes CLEARLY were more advanced as a whole this go round
I rarely watch film reviews on RUclips, but when I do, DT seems to be where I go.
The reactions to “Dawn” in a past review had me seek out the other POTA reviews, and I was interested to see what your thoughts were on Kingdom.
I am also in the good-not-great category of watchers. There is potential for what comes next (I just hope they don’t botch it).
OK, that Master Class segue was great, you got me just like you got Martin, haha!
Franchise still going strong
Kingdom has such interesting characters and great voice acting throughout as well. I also like how you didn't know if you could trust Mae really good writing there.
Mae is one of the more nuanced characters out there... I hate it but that's because I'm team apes but I see where she comes from.
I think its implied Noa is a descendant of Caeser
Except the previous trilogy was a masterpiece. The new one is just a popcorn flick
What a wonderful Martin!!!
What a wonderful Korey!!!
What a wonderful Toast!!!
What a wonderful Ape!!
What a wonderful Review!!
*sees tim burton's apes roasted by korey*
What a wonderful toast!
You’re tripping Korey. Better than Sex for me.
I would have enjoyed this movie 100% more if the three young apes went on the journey together. You can add Raka and Mae too but the three were real fun. I got connected with them right away and I would have enjoyed more time with them.
You're quoting that idiot Jeremy jahns. It makes no sense to have the friends there other than banter, it would take away from his urge to rescue his people and would undermine his relationship with Mae and Raka.
@@parareefaelias656 the urge to rescue the rest of the clan would still be there. His mother and younger clan members should be enough to motivate the hero's journey. Having h the 3 friends the whole time let's us have that sense of adventure exploring the valley beyond. Raka can be the wise outlander the teaches then on the way. It would have added something to grab onto for the second act, which was kinda slow.
Yes other people have also expressed this idea but that doesn't make it less valid.
The director of this movie, Wes Ball, will be directing the Legend of Zelda movie. Glad to see this is being well-received--I'd like to think this is good indication how Zelda will turn out.
I have been waiting for this specific review. Now ready to see this movie...the high praise it got from Martin was the final push. I loved the 2011 trilogy and Martin didnt always have the highest praise for it, with his glowing review and Korey's Full Price, thats all I need to know that I will like the film. Thank you gentlemen 🙏🙏
My two things are: sometimes, the apes feel like they move too fluidly, liie theres no weight to them. Maybe it’s just the advancements of the cgi im not used to in that regard .
The other thing: score wasn't the best, especially compared to the last 3. But it was still completely serviceable.
Excited for the franchise (hopefully) going forward!
For those who have seen both films, between Dune 2 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which film should win for best special effects?
Kingdom- EASILY. I actually haven't seen it yet, but Ive studied CGI since the revolutionary Terminator 2, and from what Ive seen, Dune 2 doesn't even come remotely close.
@peterlenham3180 Kingdom is deserving but if I had to put money on it, Dune 2 is winning. Its going to be more of a contender for Best Picture itself, that usually tends to win the award.
@@Army1601 Well that isnt right. The award is for best effects, and this is EASILY better. It shouldn't be because Dune 2 is a possible contender for best picture, that it wins the Oscar for best special effects too. Best film and best effects are two separate categories, and therefore should be treated as such.
Both deserve the win, but If it was up to me I would give it to apes because the CGI serves the story better and looks pristine. What a wonderful day! it'll be great to see Kingdom vs Dune at that battle for special effects, I don't see how deadpool can match that, maybe furiosa, but dune and kingdom set the bar really high.
@@peterlenham3180 Yes it comes close, but Kingdom has the edge, also the cgi is at the service of the story. I don't see how any of the upcoming movies can top that...and in a lower budget.
The movie is half Apocalypto and half Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Caesar could fight. Noah gets beat down the whole movie. Loved the movie though. Very entertaining
