So glad this movie seems like a worthy follow up to Dawn. Rise was a good popcorn flick with some great moments and Dawn is one of my favorite blockbusters ever. This trilogy is what happens when you reboot a tired old franchise and inject actual effort into telling it. And it uses special effects to support the story, rather than using a story to showcase special effects.
It is a surprisingly good movie. I thought the apes would be treated like cartoons, or did things that were just too unbelievable, but damn, the humanity and intelligence properly shown from the characters was just incredible. I felt all of Caesar's pain and exhaustion.
Nova is derived from Novus from Latin, which means 'New'. The girl, in this sense, is like a new kind of human: genetically, she's a human who's lost her speech to the apes' virus, while socially she coexists with the apes. Nova isn't simply fanservice.
Nova also works because it has meaning. Spoiler: when the girl asks if she is an ape, Maurice says: "No. You're... Nova". I think it means "new" in Latin. So he's saying You're not an ape, neither are you a regular human. You're something new
Had to stop when Korey talked about shedding a tear. Really need to see this for myself if it's that powerful. Haven't had that sort of experience for a long time.
I always felt that the problem with CG humans was the mouth. They just can't get the movement right. The movie that was able to overcome it was young Hank Pim in Ant Man. But, other than that, they have the eyes locked down pretty good nowadays.
Guy Says That's not a fair comparison, it was a R rated anti hero movie in the 90s.. people weren't really on board from the beginning but now it would be better received and produced.
Alaa Ahmed1000 - These guys are great! Been listening to/watching these dudes since back in their Spill.com days. You can still find their old Spill animated movie reviews here on RUclips. Those are worth watching just for the laughs alone. Their Spill "Transformers 2" movie review is still one of my all-time favorite reviews just cuz of how bad they shit on Michael Bay. 😂 It's a classic review of theirs. Anyway, now Korey & Martin are doing their own thing here on Double Toasted & it is still a whole lot of fun! 🤓💯
oh wow , i know them :D i listened to their gone baby gone review a year ago here on youtube , and i remember searching for more recent reviews from them but i didn't find any glad i found them , thanks for pointing that out.
If I remember correctly in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes there is a news blurb playing on a tv in the background in one scene announcing that NASA has lost contact with one of it's deep space exploration missions. That would have been a direct nod to the Icarus missions from the original 68' version of Planet of the Apes.
Top 5 best trilogies: (in my opinion) 1. Lord of the Rings 2. Star Wars (the original, obviously) 3. Captain America 4. Ceaser's trilogy 5. Kung Fu Panda (or Toy Story...)
Right on the same page with Korey (Coleman) on just about everything. Friggin amazing, right up there with Logan and Baby Driver as the best Ive seen this year
The thing about rewarding motion capture actors with Academy Awards or awards in general, is that it is difficult to differentiate between where the actor ends and the CGI team begins. No matter how good the motion capture actor is, it's still the CGI team that needs to do most of the work. If the CGI does a shitty job, all that motion capture acting will go to waste. They need to make sure everything is perfect to the smallest of details. They could even edit or add little details on top of the initial motion captre. If motion capture actors are rewarded, it kind of seems unfair to the CGI team. While when it comes to real actors, it's all them. Every wrinkle, every little muscle movement, it's all done and decided by the actor themselves.
i just rewatched the lord of the rings "complete edition" and i have to say, those movies, will never not be my favorite trillogy. i love everything about them, even the multiple endings, hell, i would even say, i love the fact that it gives closure to everything. and talk about emotional, that pippin song, my god, i got chills just thinking about it. such an amazing scene. its kinda absurd the theatrical version didnt include it.
Goodwin: "Toy Story 3 was just 2 with a new wrapper on it" Damn right, been saying that since it came out. This Apes and Before trilogy are the best new trilogies.
they didn't mention godfather, nolan batman, & back to the future as the best trilogies ever :S Also Toy Story is considered one of the GOAT trilogies? *shrugs*
Just saw this movie and it blew me away. Even though the action was front and back loaded, all the stuff in between had me entirely invested. The only downside being the things written on the back of their helmets and on the tunnel walls. They didn't kill the movie for me but they could have been easily left out. That nitpick aside, when the movie opened onto a black screen and the sound of the forest surrounded the audience from the theater's speakers it had me hooked. I was so-so about Dawn but I put War even above Rise, which I really loved.
Disagree with Coleman in the original livestream about Return vehemently. i think even with the cynical Ewoks(which i still got a soft spot for, not gonna lie), it still has more heart, more originiality and more character and drive to it than a lot of modern blockbusters. Other than that, gr8 review, and looking forward to seeing this
5 years old!!! I appreciate my sister taking me to see it at my local movieplex Matt Reeves succeeds capping this rebooted trilogy; a rarity where all three movies are actually get better with each one the original Apes saga set the standard for gonzo science fiction movies by peddling absolutely bonkers premises to the masses Less focus on the humans although the new Apes trilogy was smart enough to drop the time travel paradoxes and outlandish space travel (a lesson Tim Burton should have learned before tackling his dire 2001 remake) The motion capture technology is seamless thanks to the technical wizardry and Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar The simian flu here is the scariest element considering how it's evolved making humans less intelligent eventually killing them and it hearkens back to the original novel by Piere Boulle Still serves as a great thudding analogy of the human condition and looking at the rocky politics when it comes to war and extinction Terrific action set pieces, good social commentary, and allegory with the human-emotional core in tact
War for the Planet of the Apes is one of the best movies I've ever seen. This movie is a masterpiece in my eyes, nothing this year has stuck with me as this movie did. I haven't been so emotionally attached to characters like how I was with Caesar and his apes. Except maybe for Hugh Jackman in Logan. This movie made me tear up, and cry. I was that invested in a bunch of CGI apes, that's how you know that it is a fantastic movie.
It's funny... I was in a similar boat of fighting myself on actually saying this is possibly the best cinematic trilogy. I agree with pretty much everything you guys said, but if we want to play semantics I thought Dawn was the best film of the three. I left the theater hoping that the studio already had plans for the next trilogy of this series in motion because although this was a great ending, I need MORE!
When bringing up trilogies, I'm shocked they didn't mention The Dark Knight trilogy. Hopefully I'll enjoy this movie a hell of a lot more than TDKRises.
Previous movie conflict broke out due to mutiny among apes. Otherwise the human already suffer enough from their own problems...now they have to fight for real? I'm not sure who to root for...sad series imo. How can they end this on a good note?
Better than Harry Potter, better than LotR, Star Wars, Bonds, better than the Marvel movies. This is the best film series hands down. Creative, heart felt and just interesting. A lot of my friends were talking shit about this because there wasn't a big scale was but as Patrice O'neal said 'gunless apes ain't winning' they had to be different and it worked. I give this 10 Luca's out of 10
I loved the movie! One of, if not the best, trilogy of all-time. Definitely the best prequel trilogy of all-time. The trilogy of Caesar's story, that's what I'd call it. My only issues with it involved the political and social commentary. Now, I love when a movie has something to say and brings up issues that we may still experience today, but I feel like sometimes it was a little too on the nose. SPOILER AHEAD: For example: When Woody Harrelson is making the prisoner apes build a wall? Like really? I wonder what you were referring to there. As well as the burning of the American flag, I know that it was a crazy little militia, but I mean, I feel like there was some interference from a higher up saying something should be in there to capitalize on current day events for a certain demographic. Which is fine if done subtly, but I feel as if it was a little "too on the nose". At least the "build the wall" one more than the flag one.
Haven't seen the 3rd one yet, but best trilogy of all time? Come on, man. Star Wars, LOTR, Dark Knight, Indiana Jones, Jason Bourne, The Godfather(even though 3 sucked)....the list could go on forever. Hell, even though it's part of a much bigger picture the Captain America trilogy has all-time great status for me. I didn't care for Rise at all, but I did like Dawn and I'm sure this one will be good too, but there's no way this trilogy is even going to crack my Top 10.
No offense, but the Captain America trilogy doesn't really work as a trilogy since you need to see both the Avengers movies as well and also Civil War was more of Part 1 or a bigger picture than a third film.
Best review channel on the Tubes. BTW this may be one of those times you needed Koba ( btw for historical reference, Koba was the first code name for Stalin ) because Koba may have been able to dissuade other apes from going against Caesar, with his scars as evidence. I can only imagine Koba meeting the Colonel. My main complaint is that the N word keeps being used. To a child that is a threatening and very demeaning word. I bet kids look up to you man. Should their hero really use the N word? Imagine Super-Man comes down and starts calling people the N word.
We should boycott all awards especially the Oscars until they get a bunch of ANDY SIRKIS FUCKING AWARDS READY AND WAITING! AMAZING! HE IS TRULY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, TALANTED MAN OF ALL TIME! KING KONG WAS BEAUTIFUL AND PLANET OF THE APES IS MASTERFUL!
tykeem nelson - He's in prison for killing somebody. 😔 No bullshit. Vehicular Homicide. It's a sad story. Look up his name on Google & you'll find out the details. I don't want to gossip about It beyond just telling you these basics, because he is Korey & Martin's good friend.
TIm Burton's ending is actually closer to the book's ending. I'm not saying it's better but maybe not as ridiculous as you may think... but still pretty stupid
When Matt Reeves himself retweets this review and you realize that someone like Matt Reeves is a toasty fan.
Now that I've seen it, yeah it's pretty damn great! But I still think Dawn is better. Great movie, great series.
Matt Reeves just retweeted their review.
That's awesome! Good for them.
It is a surprisingly good movie. I thought the apes would be treated like cartoons, or did things that were just too unbelievable, but damn, the humanity and intelligence properly shown from the characters was just incredible. I felt all of Caesar's pain and exhaustion.

Martin: “How apropos.”
Korey: “Thank you.”
Martin: “Or ape-ropos.”
Korey: “Fuck you.”
This movie was beautiful. It joins the ranks of Star Wars, LOTR, The Dark Knight and Godfather as amazing trilogies.
I love how girts stays quiet then half way threw he comes in with the best joke of the videi
Had to stop when Korey talked about shedding a tear. Really need to see this for myself if it's that powerful. Haven't had that sort of experience for a long time.
This was 100% not even on my radar and now I feel like I need to see this opening weekend.
I completely agree with both Koreys!! I love both this movie, and the trilogy as one of the best, if not, the best!!
The Batman movie is in good hands.
Matt Reeves? He didn't do Book of Henry, that was Colin Travaureau (however the fuck it's spelled)
Doubtful Henry really? Huh.
Rukia Kuchiki's Husbando Collin Treverrow the guy who did Jurassic world
Yeah really. A quick IMDb search will tell confirm it, along with the movies' opening and ending credits.
yeah but at the end of the day, DC/warner studio still has their hands in it
29:04 Martin's pun evolved just like this movie LOL! 😂😂😂
So glad that you guys appreciate this trilogy as much as I do
not even 10 seconds in and Martin lands one of his puns.
I always felt that the problem with CG humans was the mouth. They just can't get the movement right. The movie that was able to overcome it was young Hank Pim in Ant Man. But, other than that, they have the eyes locked down pretty good nowadays.
Maaaaaan I miss Goodwin and Girts so much, they really rounded out the crew
Critics are calling this movie a classic.
dquest007 - It is 😍 #Facts
Just seen the movie....For a movie with barely any dialogue it told a fucking great story
The French cut of this movie:
Planet of the Crepes.
Fun fact: The writer of the original book was French.
One of the greatest films ever made. Almost a decade later it’s still the best CGI I’ve ever seen and it’s such an amazing story
I love rewatching these films and then listening to DT reviews. Brilliant! DT to the end man
9:49
That Spawn animated series was actually pretty good. Much, much better than the liveaction movie. Just saying.
Guy Says That's not a fair comparison, it was a R rated anti hero movie in the 90s.. people weren't really on board from the beginning but now it would be better received and produced.
Martin gon sit there and fold his face knowing he can't name 5 better movies in the past decade.
To be fair to Tim Burton's movie, that ending is based on the ending to the original novel from 1963.
Not exactly based on.The book had a different ending, just the theme of the ending is closer to the book (though still miles away from it).
this is why I can't stand Goodwin! 😂😂😂 How u hate Toy Story?
this is the fist video i see on your channel bescause matt reeves twitted it , and daaaaaaaaaaamn i am subscribing right fucking now

I think this is a great film trilogy done right in recent times. I can't wait to get the bluray of all three films in one with BTS footage!
I was thoroughly surprised by how well made the 2nd one was so I'm going into this one with high expectations.
This is gonna be a series I can sit back and show my son when he's older gonna be so cool lol he's only 5 right now .
Top 5 best trilogies: (in my opinion)
1. Lord of the Rings
2. Star Wars (the original, obviously)

4. Ceaser's trilogy
5. Kung Fu Panda (or Toy Story...)

sick that matt reeves gave em a shout out
That 2001 film by Tim burton was creepy
You guys should get all your reviews and make a blu ray collection 😬🦀😁. This stuff is worth preserving.
I like how Girtz waits for someone to say hurt to start singing Johnny Cash.
3:06 Man, you done f***ed up now!
Always come back just for that 😂😂😂
Double Toasted y'all are awesome
U guys are legends!!!
That review made me infinitely pumped for this film! Counting the days!!

Marcos Danilo Which Pippin song? The one he sings when Faramir goes into battle?
Goodwin: "Toy Story 3 was just 2 with a new wrapper on it" Damn right, been saying that since it came out. This Apes and Before trilogy are the best new trilogies.
Steve Zahn was great in the underrated classic Saving Silverman!
they didn't mention godfather, nolan batman, & back to the future as the best trilogies ever :S Also Toy Story is considered one of the GOAT trilogies? *shrugs*
practiceyourart exactly lol
29:03 The Pun master strikes.
Just saw this movie and it blew me away. Even though the action was front and back loaded, all the stuff in between had me entirely invested. Thanks for the wonderful review guys, can't wait to go see this when it gets release in my area.

As soon as Martin said "How apropos...."..... I knew what was coming lol
Matt Reeves retweeted this review!
I watched "War" alone and thought it was amazing.
5 years old!!!
I appreciate my sister taking me to see it at my local movieplex
Matt Reeves succeeds capping this rebooted trilogy; a rarity where all three movies are actually get better with each one
the original Apes saga set the standard for gonzo science fiction movies by peddling absolutely bonkers premises to the masses
Less focus on the humans although the new Apes trilogy was smart enough to drop the time travel paradoxes and outlandish space travel (a lesson Tim Burton should have learned before tackling his dire 2001 remake)
The motion capture technology is seamless thanks to the technical wizardry and Andy Serkis' performance as Caesar
The simian flu here is the scariest element considering how it's evolved making humans less intelligent eventually killing them and it hearkens back to the original novel by Piere Boulle
Still serves as a great thudding analogy of the human condition and looking at the rocky politics when it comes to war and extinction
Terrific action set pieces, good social commentary, and allegory with the human-emotional core in tact

Looking like this will be another great film in what is to become a amazing trilogy.
I've seen this movie twice, and DAMN, it is one of the BEST movies I've seen this year! Great review guys, you rock!
It's funny... I was in a similar boat of fighting myself on actually saying this is possibly the best cinematic trilogy. I LOVE Martin so much at 29:05 :)
Great movie! Definitely one of the best I've seen in a decade.
This movie has become my favorite movie of all time. I'm glad Corey is on the same page. And that other guy as well~
First time watching a DT review on RUclips (always on soundcloud) and i love it!
Previous movie conflict broke out due to mutiny among apes. Otherwise the human already suffer enough from their own problems...now they have to fight for real? I'm not sure who to root for...sad series imo. How can they end this on a good note?
I'm so happy he is directing the next batman movie!!!
wheres the baby driver review
WWBC Media website
I'm not going on their website. Did they like it?
WWBC Media Low budget action flick, Low Rental..
I'm glad I didn't bother then; & I'm glad most of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes wholeheartedly disagree. Lol.
Aurelia Ansah it was good it wasn't perfect as the fanboys say. They reviewed it on website free to listen and i also reviewed it on my website
I'll never unsee those nostrils now. 😂😂😂
Better than Harry Potter, better than LotR, Star Wars, Bonds, better than the Marvel movies.
This is the best film series hands down.

twon 1610 auto thumbs up for quotin my boy Patrice
This is caesar's trilogy.
Whole heartedly agree - best trilogy of all time
And Matt Reeves is directing the new Batman film, so fucking excited, i hope he does the entire trilogy.
METALLIFY16 Well JJ Abrahms directed the first one. Matt only directed the second one and this one.
Should I watch the previous two before this one or can I just go watch this one?
I loved the movie! One of, if not the best, trilogy of all-time. Definitely the best prequel trilogy of all-time. The trilogy of Caesar's story, that's what I'd call it.

Santa Clausewitz he never asked to be anybody's rolemodel 🤔
Santa Clausewitz I highly doubt that anyone under 21 watches this channel.
The hosts have won multiple Independent Film awards.
yup. the only trilogy that does not degrade in quality and value on all fronts.
hahaha fukcing knew girtz was gonna break out the kermit voice
Hey Double Toasted, are guys planning to do review on the film "Okja"?
I really liked it.
I cried everytime I watched the Nova trailer. I'm not prepared for the full movie.
Oh, yeah, this Matt Reeves is directing the Batman film. I hope he puts in the work for that too.
Looks like it will be one of the best trilogies ever
Harambe Rises
Danjoker credits 💯. Good title.
Danjoker that joke is so lame
NORMIE!!!!
Yus
Memes are cool thanks
I wonder when u guys r going to talk about the new Jumanji movie trailer
Paris Castillo man they need to talk about that. Because the trailer was both a "meh" and looked generic in my opinion.
Ahhh. Men, don't be embarrassed to cry. To be honest, we find it weak if you are too repressed to cry. It's 2017; stifled emotions aren't a good look.
I think the Apes did more acting talent than the humans in this film. Its so emotional, this movie.
the music score was good
“He got on Kanye line” 😂
We should boycott all awards especially the Oscars until they get a bunch of ANDY SIRKIS FUCKING AWARDS READY AND WAITING! AMAZING! HE IS TRULY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, TALANTED MAN OF ALL TIME! KING KONG WAS BEAUTIFUL AND PLANET OF THE APES IS MASTERFUL!
this Trilogy was amazing and each movie was a hit. but I'm not putting it above Lord of the Rings trilogy.
wow I saw the first movie and enjoyed it quite a bit. I missed the second one, time to catch up
Fred Green Tobey Kebbel is awesome as Koba in the second one.
Does anybody know what happen to tommy?
tykeem nelson - He's in prison for killing somebody. 😔 No bullshit. Vehicular Homicide. It's a sad story. Look up his name on Google & you'll find out the details. I don't want to gossip about It beyond just telling you these basics, because he is Korey & Martin's good friend.
I don't think that scene with Nova is humorous; I think its more sweet.
how come in movies, taking over a town or single location equates to taking over the entire world? I haven't see the movie yet but...
"Ape-propo" was pretty awesome
I love that I just found this channel!
TIm Burton's ending is actually closer to the book's ending. I'm not saying it's better but maybe not as ridiculous as you may think... but still pretty stupid
Most people if not all, never read the book or knew the book existed.
Just saying.
Maybe so, but when this movie is as good as it is, who cares.
I don't cry in movies but I am moved by them but I won't cry when I watch this ik this
