It's the same 'ol song and dance and with Fast and Furious 7 not being much of a disappointment coupled with the loss of Paul Walker, there was a lot of speculation on whether or not the quality of this franchise was going to suffer and now it's time to find out! Some of the DT cast have seen all the movies leading up to now, and others (Ahem, Coleman!) haven't paid attention since Fast and Furious 3, but it's time to step up to the plate! The Fast and Furious series went from 'Point Break with Cars' to 'Avengers with Cars.'
The reason first one was so popular and cult classic is because almost all the cars they used were affordable. Specially Honda Civic which was very popular (and practical) car among students. Even the sports cars like Rx-7 were dirt cheap. Even the aftermarket stuff like neon lights etc were so affordable. So it was very relatable. It was all about cars and street racing scene.
When i think about it, this movie's plot is basically just like the new Transformers, the main protagonist going rogue and shit

I personally want a Hot Wheels movie, but no kiddie stuff. The last Hot Wheels show/direct-to-video movie(s) that were made, it was actual kids driving life-sized HW cars and I'm not a fan. I want to go back to the World Race and Acceleracers.
The producers are probably watching this right now and are saying, "Oh shit super powers! That is perfect for Fast 9!!!!!!!

Honestly, the fun you had discussing how stupid everything is the point. Everyone involved, the cast, the writers, the critics, fans, actors, everyone accepts the franchise is just the most fun, stupidest shit and I love it every time. They arent smug about it either, and the escalation is slow enough over time that this madness can happen but be acceptable.
Some fans seem to disagree.
Team Fast vs. The Avengers vs. Justice League: Family of Infinity Justice. All three franchises crossover to battle a giant purple skin, red eyes, Omega sign villain named Francis who makes money in cars and electronics. And they have to fight together when the spirit of Martha tells them all they're "FAMILY". Hahaha. And Uncle Tony finally bangs Aunt May.

I noticed when I reviewed Set It Off director F. Gary Gray has great street cred, an eye for action set pieces, and slick production
The stakes aren't as emotionally charged but you can feel the sense of urgency given Dom turns on his team this time

But this was also the point where Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson had a huge altercation and ended up parting ways that's why you don't see them a lot on screen together
But there's good banter and charisma with Jason Statham returning
Glorious stupidity and lack of physics yet thankfully the movie even hits contemporary views of modern high tech terrorism and the action scenes are way more insane

I think this movie just killed whatever love I had for this series. It no longer resembles the series it started out as, instead, it completely jumps the shark (or submarine) with a plot that wouldn't even work as a Saturday morning cartoon series. It's laughably absurd and if I didn't enjoy watching this cast I would have given it a some ol' bull... yeah, you know the drill.

I'd say it was over at Fast FIve. I thought that it ended perfectly there. They took the heist and beat the villains, Dom Vs. Hobbs, etc. Then at the end Brain and Dom finally get to race each other in a rematch and it cuts to black. They could've ended it right there and it would've been fine. But they had to keep going.........

The middle action sequence with the 4000 self driving cars was the stupidest thing in the entire franchise. I disagree with Martin and Goodwin here, this one was way dumber, even if the car physics aren't as dumb, the plain stupidity in this one is far greater than the other ones. That middle car sequence was trash guys, what you thinking?
Man bruh.... when I was growing up, we had the 2 Fast 2 Furious movie (with Paul, Luda when he had braids, Tyrese, and Eva Mendez I believe) and I thought that shit was dope. I didn't see any sequels after that until like 2 years ago when the 7th movie came out? Where Rhonda Rousey made a cameo? Yeah, I saw that one with my girlfriend at the time and I was left thinking "What the fuck did they do to this series?What is this shit?!"
They shifted into action-movie territory. When I go back to watching 2 Fast 2 Furious, it really does try hard to be some mix between Miami Vice & and 2000's-era rap video..... and it's wack lol. Don't get me wrong, I have fun with it, and like it on some level..... but it's the one i go back to the least. People harp on how many times Vin Diesel says family?.... You can get wasted taking shots every time Tyrese or Paul Walker says "bruh", "breh" or "bro". It's awesome hahaha

I thought this was a good entry into the series. The darker plotline of this film really lended itself towards the melodramatic tone that this series has always had, but especially from 5 onward. The three pillars of this series are the ridiculous action (check), the melodrama that borders on telenovella (check), and the banter and friendship between the characters (check). Charlize Theron really plays into the ham fisted, melodramatic tone of the film. For me this was a solid movie that was replete with insane comic booky moments. It's the ridiculous plots of James Bond meets the set pieces and action of superhero movies. At one point Dom even gets a costume for a little bit, and Hobbs does some superhuman things that makes him feel like Luke Cage's cousin. I love how this series brings characters back, including villains because it feels that this is a universe of characters with a recurring rogues gallery and continuity. I even liked Scott Eastwood's addition to the team. He brought a different kind of energy that played well off of the others. He was the rookie getting his feet wet, and that was fine.
Overall, this is essentially a super team that uses cars as their superhero gimmick. Obviously not for everyone, but good if you're a fan of the series. Full Price for me.

If you watched all of the Fast movies, it shows a lot of Easter eggs and homages and also hints where the plot would lead to. For example, if you look at the cast credits in the beginning of the movie there's some good foreshadowing of what to expect. Also, I love that it takes elements from past Fast movies and embeds them into 8 very smoothly.
But the 4th movie sucked!

Dom caved in a parking garage, not a bridge. And that top level of the parking garage was weakened because a-hole terrorist was shooting miniguns and missiles at it. People keep saying he stomped his foot so hard like he had super strength. I wouldn't be minded by those comments if they acknowledged that top level was breaking up and cracking all over to begin with.
The franchise got silly when they added Dwayne Johnson aka the rock. It turned into a completely different franchise. It was about racing but now they're spies and super heroes. lol Entertaining franchise but ridiculous as well!

How do they go the whole review without talking about Paul Walker. He was as important as Vin Diesel's character, if not more. Plus this film was detected to Paul(the last scene is pretty telling of this), and he had been in more films than Diesel prior to his passing(r.i.p).
What about the time the cars with tow cables hauled this massive steel vault through metro streets, veering and making sharp turns... oh... and even drifting with all that weight behind? LOL. I think this was like in the 4th movie or so. I can't nor do I bother to remember the exact one.

Now that to mi were normal before now they swept up in the heroic and heroin super abilities.
