- THE MUMMY (2017) MOVIE REVIEW - Tom Cruise has been a busy bee lately! With a rumored Top Gun 2 filming, and a movie trailer of "American Made" coming out (which you can see the full trailer reaction at Doubletoasted.com!), it's admirable that Cruise is atop the box office this week with The Mummy. On top of reviewing the movie that we keep saying TV Spot after TV Spot, and trailer after trailer for, the DT crew also look back at the old Mummy movies, including the 1999 Branden Frasier film. So with that said, sit back, relax, and enjoy as the Double Toasted podcast either praise or place inside a tomb, this reimagining of a somewhat classic in this funny video!
And for more funny videos head on over to Doubletoasted.com for funny movie reviews, movie trailer reactions to official trailers of 2017, and so much more livestreamed all throughout the week!
EDITOR NOTE: Hey folks! So apparently we got flagged over some footage used in the video and had to make a re-upload. "We're bad guys! It's what we do!" - Margot Robie as Bride of Frankenstein
"Say hello to the bad guy!" Al Pacino as Phantom of the Opera
"I am Family!" - Vin Diesel as Creature from the Fast Lagoon
Big Black Guy Reviews underrated comment lol
Omg hahaha
I would so watch that movie
"I'll be bad guy" arnold swingernator as bad guy
This made me appreciate the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies a lot more. Already did like the 1999 Mummy but now i just gotta watch it all over again.
Shanzul Whiteglintt I agree! And they replaced Evelyn O'conell to this Jenny?
Shanzul Whiteglintt I agree, after this movie I definitely want to go back and watch those movies.
Shanzul Whiteglintt Well the first two at least. The third movie was not good.
Shanzul Whiteglintt third one ? I don't recall
There were 3 Brendan Fraser The Mummy movies. The third one I think was about the scorpion king that ended up being its own movie. The first 2 mummy movies though I thought were pretty donkey kong.
"it's the league of extremely ordinary gentleman" - this. 😀
Glad to hear everyone is giving Brendan Fraser more credit now. Also Leon's hat looks like something Benny would wear.
Martin said "The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen".😂😂😂

Zforce Me too! So glad I felt like being nosey. Black Nerd hasn't steered me wrong yet!
One of the all-time best DoubleToasted Reviews:

10:14-10:55 Screaming Like an Old Woman
12:48-13:28 Straight Up Looney Tunes

Martins is so bold with his fashion choices that hat is amazing he pulls it off.
Hey DT! I'm loving this channel. I really appreciate the commentary. The dynamic between you guys is gold. Everyone definitely substantiates opinions with a great understanding of the mediums you're discussing.
Its really refreshing. Thanks guys
I wonder will they ever change the opening intro animation to include Korey Goodwin and Girts. I think they are definitely worth the reanimation.
That would be cool. I love the old intro, but it's time for an update.
There already was a cinematic universe for these monsters, and it was called Penny Dreadful. It had the gothic tone of the original films, all of the awesome characters, it was well directed and it had a compelling story.
Augie Rivera sadly, the series was cancelled, right when Dracula was due to appear
TheSpawnfan
*spoilers*
Dracula did appear in season 3. He was ineffectively used, if I'm going to be honest. He wasn't scary or threatening enough. Maybe they knew the show was going to be cancelled, and they stopped caring by then.
If you want to see a good Mummy movie, just see the 1999 one with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz!
Pedro Portillo or even the one with boris karloff
I really miss that version of the mummy
Martin looks like a Johnny Quest villain in this one...it's cool though
Johnny Quest was the shit.
JOHNY QUEST VILLIAN ! LMAO

Dark Universe will be successful
-Korey
The mummy comes out
*cues Curb your Enthusiasm theme*
He said it had potential, and ways it could work.
XD
@Nidorino Alliance The Mummy is doing well overseas in places like China, South Korea, Japan, Russia, and more. It is number 1 overseas and yet here in America it got gutted by The Critics, so because of the overseas market, The Dark Universe will continue with Bride Of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man.
@ShadowProductionsXD I believe that The Dark Universe will do good because of the overseas box offices like China who is a big power house or Japan were Cruise is super popular.
+stainshield I didn't say it wouldn't continue.
Rachael Weisz was so damn fine in The Mummy.
This movie didn't even come close to the 1999 Stephen Summers' Mummy film, nor its sequel, and it can't even touch the 1932 Boris Karlof classic. A little disappointed in this new one.
thanks for saving me $10 guys if I ever go to the theater. I'll stick with the 1932 and the 1999 Mummy movie.
Patrick's review is on his shirt. What a spoiler.
animeSelect pfff, just noticed that

Glad Girts is still sitting in the spotlight, he's a nice contrast for the group:) was happy they decided to keep putting him in the show. Cast is vibing.
Affirmative action hire. They need to have someone competent like Cyrus back.
yeah, well, thats just, like, your opinion, man.
Different strokes, but I am personally not a fan. There are people who can be opinionated and funny, but he doesn't have that, and he usually comes off like an a-hole for the 1% of the time he does anything at all. But than again, none of the extras on this show have been that good.
I love how Chris Stuckmann refuses to "spoil" the supposed twist and everyone else are like "Fuck it, Russell Crowe is Dr. Jekyll."
Feline Fatale good on chris for going in not already knowing that
Feline Fatale when watching his review I thought it was weird. Didn't they spoil that in the trailers or nah?
Yeah everyone already knows that shit.
I thought it was advertised that he was the character
Stuckman has a habit of trying to go intyo movie blind. Apparently he succeeded in avoiding the marketing stuff.
I love going back and re-listening to your reviews after I’ve watched the film. Even if I’m a year late to the game. 😁 Saw this movie tonight and I have NO IDEA what I just watched 😬
Still watching em?
I like how Russell Crowe refers to Tom Cruise as 'young man', when he's two years younger than him in real life.
ChiefRepublic well speaking as Jekyll/Hyde he could be alive for a long time
The best thing about this video, In my opinion, is that the older gentleman is dressed like he's Jonathan Hyde's character in the 1999 Mummy movie.
Martin's Fez Crashed the first upload.
"aint got $7.50 to pay"
AnorexicShark It is $10 now in my area for a ticket.
its from the old spill.com theme
EVERYBODY NOW!
Any body else notice when Martin was trying to call out the Alan Moore comic, The League, he kind of got the title wrong. Instead, he titled his old podcast on Spill! lol
I thought that was pretty funny, and cool.
YOU'RE THE SPILL GUY'S!!!!! You have no idea how excited I am to see you still on RUclips!!! Enough to subscribe... That much.
so "toasted" means "upload"
I was rooting for the mummy by the end
The original Bride of Frankenstein is one of the best movies ever made.
I think this is coming out at the wrong time of year or even the wrong year itself. This year is so crowded with sequels, comic book movies and reboots that this will get lost in the releases and most folks will simply skip it.
Why is Martin dressed like a Bond villain henchmen?
T. Philip Humphrey Nah more like Indiana Jones. I’m sorry Martin. We know what you were really going for.
All the bad reviews for this make me excited to catch it on HBO
In the 2017 film : THE MUMMY, Tom Cruise plays Nick Morton - - a character that is shallow, self-absorbed, self-seeking, unethical, and vain. In other words Tom Cruise plays himself ;-)
😄😄😄
Ha ha
I would have liked to see what Idris Elba could have brought to the movie as the main lead. Plus, since Idris Elba is much taller and larger, it makes more of an impact visually when you see this large tower of a human being worried and threatened like everyone else.
Tom Cruise would never allow an actor taller than him in the movie so that's why it's a petite supermodel is The Mummy
Gabriel Crosley He's old as fuck tho
James Russel he's 10 years younger than cruise
+MikeHawke83
Really? Russel Crowe is much taller than Cruise.
Isn't most of Hollywood's male leads taller than Cruise? LOL
Martin said "extremely ordinary gentlemen" instead of "extraordinary gentlemen" and nobody corrected him lol
Gabriel Karapondo Freudian slip
I'm all for the idea of a monster universe, because I love those old monster movies and would love to see movies that throw back to that era. But that's not what Universal's going for here, from what I see; in fact, I think it's clear they don't know what to do. The original Universal movies were slow and atmospheric, most of them being shot in the early days of sound and thus being restricted to shoot on studio sets--no big set pieces or flashy kills. And you felt bad for the monsters in those movies because they were always trying to win someone's love in spite of being held back by their monstrous qualities or appearance, and when they realized they were never going to get it, they accepted their defeat and died. When Frankenstein realized the Bride found him ugly, he took his own life; when the Mummy realized he couldn't bring his princess back, he turned into dust. Now these Dark Universe movies are just painting them as villains instead of tragic anti-heroes, and way too invested in the cool special effects to care about building these monsters up as complex characters. "Yeah, sure, there's a mummy in this movie, but look, Tom Cruise!" It misses the point of why these characters endure beyond being Halloween decorations, which means there's no point in building a universe around them. If they fix those problems for the FRANKENSTEIN movie, I'm all in, but if you're just gonna try to mimic Marvel, then I'm not down with that.
So we got a studio named 'Universal' that can't get a cinematic universe going to save their lives. Wow, life, ah?
It is starting to get really annoying how in all of (or most of) these movies about these ancient Egyptian elements or entities are negative things that act as threats or villains that someone (usually from America) has to escape or overcome. I'm not even talking about white washing and the complete lack of historical/ethic accuracy in a lot of these things. I am saying that nobody seems to stumble across anything that could help the world or stumble across a helpful spirit or something. You know what I mean. They can even make superhero movies or something with some of these Egyptian/African beings and characters.
You Tuber What? Where is the conflict? You want a mummy film where they help you? What happens in this film? That's a comedy my friend.
A benevolant or at least ambivalent figure would be nice to see once in a while. For the most part I just think these writers really lack creativity overall.
You are one weird social justice warrior. You're actually asking for a Mummy remake where the Mummy is nice and tries to fit in? A Universal monster movie thats heartwarming?
The God's of Egypt is more of a fun action joke, not to be taken seriously at all I think.
What you've had there Sir or Madam is an original idea, please refrain from having those in future. Hollywood does not like them.
Monster Cinematic Universe: MCU
Shoutout to the re-upload
Re-upload for life! No, but honestly, thank you for the patience. We really wish we didn't have to do these uploads but when RUclips gives us that flag, we can't really do much to remedy the situation.
I watched the whole thing before the re-upload lol
god youtube is so stupid with their copyright shit.
Shout out to all the pearsssssssss
what the hell is martin wearing...? the cat daddy has some far out style.
he's starring in the next grand Budapest hotel
Um ik im late as fuck but im pretty sure he's supposed to be the wormy guy from the other mummy movie who tries to steal the money, betrays everyone to help the mummy, and dies horribly at the end
freudian slip, Martin :)"Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen."
If Universal wanted to start their Dark Universe why start it off with The Mummy? Why not choose a more widely known monster like Dracula or Wolf Man since werewolves and vampires are still hot commodities?
CaptainTalon448 I think the plan originally was for Dracula Untold was to kick this off but they decided to cut it out and start with the mummy
Cause they're Stupid....
I always have a blast watching your movie reviews
I can't wait to see Korey react to the Black Panther teaser
Just found out yesterday that Korey & Leon from Spill is on this channel and I instantly subscribed.
Most of them are from S.P.I.L.L.
Your Welcome 😊
It would make more sense if it was a Van Helsing movie.
Martin know wassup with the Fez! Peace brother.
people like to throw the peace sign, but I think it's cooler if you express peace verbally...
sup brother...... Two.
Phantom of the Opera = Bill Cosby LMAO!!
htwoa aowth with a broken plate in his face
I'm glad Double Toasted at least presented their hate for the DCEU in a more respectful way. While the MCU does have a formula, it has produced some clunkers that heavily relied on the formula.
Jonny Doey even if the product is clunky and formulaic it serves the greater purpose
I wanted this universe to be good so bad. I want a good modern Frankenstein movie. Dracula too
jake M Dracula Untold and iFrankenstein is what you get. lmao
As soon as the vid comes on...holy hell, so used to Korey dressing up for a review but Martin?! Did Korey put you up to this ? Lol
You want to start a universe? Make a really good movie, then make another really good movie and hide things in each that connect them, then keep going. But make sure each movie is f****** good
"this concept of bringing creatures together is not working for me." It is interesting you should say that because Penny Dreadful was just cancled
There was even a scene wear you actually see the EXACT book of the dead (or life) from the 1999 Mummy film.
I think universal should of been focusing on making good monster movie remakes of horror films, then focused on the dark universe instead of just one movie, and having the dark universe plans being public until later. They should of rebooted individual characters and just see where it goes. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think when the horror film monster movies first started, I don't think their goals was to do make a universe, doing crossovers, it seem much natural. But this dark universe idea seemed manufactured. They should of rebooted classic movie monsters, which I guess was this but maybe remove the dark universe aspect, because it would be easier to try another monster movie if that one failed and maybe try again. Look how long it took for DC modern era, I'll say post Christian Bale for them to finally get a good live action movie. It took Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Shazaam, unsure about Man of Steel, for them to finally get good movies right. Batman vs Superman and JL were bad.
I'll admit, there was one segment I liked: the Mr. Hyde scene.
When Universal, the first to make a cinematic universe all the way back in the 30s, fails to make one in the modern day
Goodwin put that nitpicking to good use in this review. Funny vid guys!
sucks that the Angry Joe comment is gone.
and we care why?
Wait what??? What happened?
What was it?
Angry Joe called Girts "delusional" for talking trash about Man of Steel.
Well Joe is a big fanboy of Superman. Also, he defended Man of Steel during his crossover with Nostalgia Critic.
5:45 Dang! They gave her Mumm-Ra from Thundercats origin! 😂🤣😂🤣
Also, Sett has no control over death in Eygyptian mythology, he has no domain over it his brother Osiris does and Osiris is a good guy. Kinda wished they didnt tie Sett to death in the film lol
13:22 Looney Toons cartoon lol
I can't wait for the Transformers review, good or bad lol
You know for sure that's going to be some ol ' bullshit.
You want to know what rating they're gonna give it don't you duuuude
DCU: Dark Cinematic Universe
Real talk. Thank you for finally letting the other three speak Korey. I like to hear everyone but you can be a tad domineering.
If u want an AMAZING Mummy film go watch The Mummy 1932 - One of Karloff's best roles, there's a reason Boris Karloff is considered one of the pioneers of horror! - Classic films survive the test of time. Any true horror fan NEEDS to watch the classic Universal Monster Movies! The days of Black and White films were the Golden Age of Horror!
My personal fav of the original Universal Monster Movies is Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954), though I have a lot of love for The Phantom Of The Opera (1925) too! - I am 29. It genuinely saddens me that a lot of 'film critics' nowadays have no respect for the classics/won't give films the time of day if they are 10 years or older, especially if they are in black and white. Films that survive the test of time usually do so because they are works of art, its sad that in today's modern climate, films are far too often churned out, not to make a piece of art, or to tell a compelling story, but simply to make money and as such only attempt to appeal to the lowest common denominator/general audience, which leads to a lowering of the bar and a lowering of peoples expectations. If people were more willing to give the originals a try for themselves rather than condemn them before watching them, just because of their age, maybe Hollywood wouldn't be so quick to pump out all of these unnecessary remakes!
Martin El Bey rockin the Fez, on his sovereign shit!
It's weird because I didn't like the movie yet I want to see where they go from here
Maybe because the movie had potential
8:35 That Spongebob reference XD
Martin looking like Morocco Mole over there. ^^
Martin looks like he should be in a Mummy movie XD
they may have stumbled with the mummy movie, but they should continue forward don't reboot or start over.
Commenting at 10 minutes in: Here's the thing: Yes, it is pretty much SHIELD, and they are kid of copying Marvel by trying to make their own 'Universe' (as pretty much everyone else is), but as you said, they started the while thing of mixing their properties together when our parents/grandparents were teenagers.
So, for me, if anyone 'deserves' to have a successful Movie Universe franchise, its Universal Studios, so I'm rooting for them (while at the same time hoping that Sony's 'Spider-Verse' falls flat on its face, and they give Spidey back to Marvel permanently ^_^)
Universal: Dark Universe
Disney: Marvel Cinematic Universe
Warner Bros: DCEU? I don’t know what that stands for
I want a Wolfman, phantom of the Opera, invisible man and monster of the black lagoon movie 😃
Fishbowl the illusionist well tough luck
I read how this movie ends... who came up with that bull crap!
Yeah, the ending is pretty terrible.
an uncharted movie gone wrong
Why is Martin dressed like John Rhys Davies from the Indy movies?
Martin is saucin' on everybody with the fez
I loved this movie!! Full of action!!
13:20 why are more and more movies doing this these days lol
"He's just Bill Cosby."
🤣🤣🤣
It wasn't that Bad....
If u compare it to Cancer!
I swear one scene in the movie shows Jenny, I think, placing the Book of Amun-Ra from the 1999 Mummy film on a table for a split second. I was like, "Seriously?! You guys are so desperate and cheap that you're bringing in an iconic prop from a superior movie and placing it in a crappy mediocre remake of said movie hoping no one would notice, and then do nothing with it?!"
I knew it, I knew it, I KNEW IT! I knew this film was going to crash and burn, they're doing the same mistake Waner Bros and DC are doing.
@Girts, I enjoyed Man of Steel but I still recognize its flaws, at least it's entertaining unlike that glorified fanfilm Superman Returns, which FAILED to capture the feel of my favorite Superhero movie, Superman The Movie and instead became a steaming pile of BORING.
I like Martin's Aladdin Fez hat
How come you guys haven't reviewed Valerian yet?
Set is the god of chaos...not exactly a satan
I always like the re-upload
I knew the new mummy was going to be bad, but i still wanted it to be good! i love the old mummy!
SuperTupac oh yeah the one with Boris Karloff, that one may be an old film but it was a classic.
You guys recommended Booksmart, that movie was so funny I saw a lot of Superbad in it and that was a good thing
Is this movie a remake or a continuation from the other "The Mummy" movies??
It's a reboot that's going to start Universal's Cinematic [Dark] Universe.
Andre sent me here
The 1999 The Mummy movie is better
Alright I'll admit that thing on the plane was pretty cool.
It was even cooler when it happened in Uncharted 3 though.
To be fair, Christopher McQuarrie wrote both Usual Suspects and Way of the Gun. That carries a lot of weight tho' this might run the goodwill well dry.
Ayyyy it's back
Yes it is! Thank you for your patience in watching this re-upload. We try not to do these, as duplicate videos can become a little annoying especially for the "notification squad", but sometimes we don't have a choice. - ND
