    Thanks again for your great tutorials, Stijn!
    As with the first exercises of your "Shell voicings" tutorial, one question comes to my mind: being a pattern, it's relatively easy to play along with you without knowing exactly what I'm doing. So I'm wondering if it has any value for me (at my stage...) if not played *super slowly*, saying the chords and guide tones at the same time. Don't get me wrong: I'm not saying it has no value. :) Just wondering if I'm missing something.
    One of my "short term" goals is to be able to play root+shell or guide tones instantly when I see the name of any chord, in any direction, with one or two hands. So, I'm trying to *memorize*, for example LH:1-3 RH: 7 (thumb!), LH: 1-7, RH: 3 (thumb!) in all keys around the circle of 5ths, saying the name of the chords and notes out loud. Is it a waste of time, in your opinion?

    • @StijnWauters
      @StijnWauters  2 года назад

      Thanks a lot! As far as your concern, both exercises or approaches are very useful! Playing chords and shells very slow while saying the name of the notes is very important, but since a lot of standards are based on II V I or other circle of fifths progressions, it’s also useful to practice them as a pattern so you can play the chords (shells) automatically without thinking (motorically). So I would suggest to practice them both ways! :-)

    Listening to your Left Hand (Walking Bass Line) on Jordu, what exercises would you recommend to attain such fluency and accuracy? I'm wondering if you practiced Bach a lot - some of those left hand patterns were reminiscent of his approaches (from a visual point)

    • @StijnWauters
      @StijnWauters  3 года назад +1

      Hi, I have practiced some pieces by Bach in the past, so it’s possible they helped me to play basslines, but surely not in a direct way.. However, I did practice some typical LH walking patterns in all keys (turn around, II V I, chromatic approach notes,...) from which I benefited directly. I’m planning on making a tutorial on walking bass lines soon..!

    In the bossa feel II-V-I for example when going from Dm7 to G7 in the score you make the anticipation in the right hand but not on the left. But when you play you make the anticipation in both hands (you play G instead of D). Which one is correct? Thanks!!

    • @StijnWauters
      @StijnWauters  3 года назад +3

      You’re right! I didn’t notice this before, so thank you for pointing this out..! I would say they are both possible and correct, but apparently I anticipated the bass note together with the chord! You could try both, and see what works best for you..
