We use Salt Away on all our trucks. Especially any aluminum components!! After every snow storm. The plow, spreaders, body, undercarriage, engine and trans get coated then washed off. Tip for cleaning underneath a truck. Use a lawn sprinkler zip tied to a shop broom. Turn it on. Move it around as needed to wash the entire under of the trucks.
Im a A&P mechanic and found scrubbing bubbles works amazing well as a degreaser. Love the content!!!

My engines always look like they just came out of the factory. I've had seven-year-old vehicles that the mechanic has left a note on the multi-point inspection sheet on how clean the engine compartment is. I use Griot's Garage Engine Bay Dressing to finish the process to freshen the plastics and rubber. I also use an undercarriage cleaner with my pressure washer 3-4 times a year to clean the frame, transmission, motor, etc. Not that hard to do and if you do it regularly it's not a chore to keep everything really clean.

Me too. I'm a technician myself so I also see the benefits of it, but every vehicle I've owned, I've always kept them squeaky clean. I'm just ocd like that.
I am glad to see on my 19 and your 20 the same factory decal sticker installer is still employed leaving then not firmly stuck down flapping in the breeze. I dried mine off with a leaf blower they ended up three yards away.

I spray LA's Totally Awesome on a stone cold engine, then rinse it off with garden hose pressure only (it's 80+ psi here), then start the engine and warm it up to dry. This stuff is super cheap and works great. I never let the crap build up. Dust is the big problem here in the south.
I've been doing this for years! Yes, I use the wax setting as well. This is going to sound odd, but it works. If I buy a used car that needs a good first-time cleaning, while the engine is cold, I spray the whole thing down with Armour All tire foam, especially the electronic connections. It will bead the water away from the electronic connections. Then I take it to the car wash and spray the non-electronics with a good engine degreaser. Then I spray it down with the method that you are using! I have done this on every car and/or truck I have owned including three different Corvettes over the years. I currently have a 2014 F350 with 217,000+ miles on it and two Escalades, one new and one with 170,000+ miles on it and all the engine bays look brand new!

I always spray the front axle and underside of the engine first to let the degreaser soak in. That's were all the crap ends up! Thanks for showing where not to spray hard!

@ARod, great video! I know you said "it's not the 1980s", but I can attest that our detail guys in the 1980s were cleaning engines in the exact same way you demonstrated. The major difference was they had to take the step of wrapping the distributor or coil pack with plastic bags before they started, and they had to be a lot more mindful of the plug wires and relay blocks. After cleaning they would blow the engine dry with compressed air.
I'll add for the homegamers is be mindful of how much water you spray around the accessory belts. If you do spray them, try to dry them off as much as you can to cut down on belt squeal.
I use Simple Green and my home garden hose on my vehicles. Works pretty well and keeps the engine bay clean enough for me.

Use Extreme Simple Green Motorsports formula (safe for plastics/aluminum). On a warm engine, use a light water mist to wet engine compartment, then overs pray with extreme motorsports formula and let sit 5 mins or so. Follow up with a fan pattern spray with hose nozzle, constantly moving. Mindful of dual alternators for the 6.7. Afterwards, start engine and go for a short drive to heat engine compartment to evaporate remaining water. Use this for all personal vehicles with no issue. As mentioned by others, use pressure washer on low setting for undercarriage, which I pre-spray with same extreme motorsport spray (doesnt leave etching marks on aluminum parts).

I normally use simple green diluted 50/50 mix and my pressure washer. It does a great job .
Simple green is good, but lately I've been noticing their formula is not as potent anymore. Requires more product, less water.
I always clean my 7.3L in my 1999 F-350 by hand. That engine is bone dry but that’s because i’m extremely picky about my truck. Any plastic parts such as the air intake (which is the factory one) or the decorative cover on top of the fuel filter housing gets wiped down by hand with tire shine to really bring out the shine of them.
👌🏻 Only thing I’m doing different than you are is I use my leaf blower to blow most of the excess water out/off of the engine bay and engine components.

Trick I learned years ago for underhood cleaning, scrubbing bubbles! Yep the same one you may use in the bathroom for cleaning. Never had a problem and always looks great when you are done. Keep up the great info!

Dude you made that look so easy bros, I take about 1hr to clean my engine area cover important sensors and computers with aluminum foil then pre soak , hit with simple green , scrub with microfiber wash rag ,then I air dry with my leaf blower lmao....then back to black on trims .
Get me on the wash pod cast lol . My truck is a 6 hr project every time I come back from the road.

Never ever use water in the engine bay. Water intrusion affects electrical wiring and circuits. If you must spray or wash down with water, please wrap all the electrical connectors, cover the computer modules, and your fuse box, disconnect the battery (negative lead), and cover the alternator. When done, use an air compressor and blow out the water, let the vehicle set to dry with the hood open, look for water retainment areas and blow out the water and dry. Then remove all that you have covered and reconnect the Negative battery cable. For those not using water, it is best to use Armor All Wipes, and Mequiars Interior Cleaner on shop rags or microfiber towels, and use brushes to rid of dust and dirt. There is no super fast way to properly clean the engine compartment. You must do it by hand. Everyone forgets the bottom side of the engine and cleaning/drying off the firewall. Why do you think automakers place a splash shield under your vehicle engine? Most degreasers harm your plastic parts and connectors and rubber hoses. Oh! this is why vehicles that have been in a flood or submerged in water cannot be sold, water severely damages vehicles inside out.

I just use ther pressure washer but turned off. a little bit of car wash soap works fine, but all my trucks, including my company work trucks look absolutely mint before the weekend. The boss has come out and commended the state of my vehicle before (and has zero issue with me expensing cleaning products). I spend a fair amount of time on boring phone calls, meetings in my truck, waiting at suppliers, etc. and i'm wiping down the dash, the dead bugs on my hood/windshield, etc. Bosses like seeing the trucks maintained, at least mine do.

I think I'd stuff a rag at the intake just to be safe. I see the 2 foam pieces by the hood hinges have gone on the 2020, along work the hood insulation. I guess that's value engineering working there
I have a no limit cai, I was thinking of taking the filter off and just stuffing a bunch of rags up the intake and wrapping a plastic bag around it. That should be good eh?

Love your videos. I personally like to shoot from the bottom with the cleaner, then to the top. It makes finding leaks much easier. I also like to come back with some 303 on the plastic and rubber.
Amsoil engine degreaser and water hose. Amsoil is just easier to get for me personally.

I love the spray wax my Ford dealer has not sure what it is but it has to be shaken up before use cause it separates like oil and water
Grab some Chemical Guys silk dressing and a detail brush and paint away for a full engine detail..Great video!

Beside that, I use Purple Power and light pressure. Comes out like brand new. After I blow it off I hit it with Tire Shine. Yup, tire shine. It looks factory new. Newer customers I always show them after I'm done and they can't believe it's the same truck.

Purple Power is awesome. But you have to seriously dilute it. It is so harsh when fully concentrated, it will destroy everything it touches.

i've literally walked away from a vehicle purchase before because of a dirty engine. can't see what is wrong with it when it's covered in dirt and 60,000 miles of grease/oil. one of the big reasons i just bought a low miles (like 34K) 2019 is because it was spotless and i could verify no leaks!

I use simple green industrial degreaser and garden hose. Works awesome, but that degreaser can erase sticker writings. So if there is any important sticker with certain info in the engine, it will surely erase it. My truck doesnt have any of that so I dont care.
I cover the computer connections then spray with Superclean APC, agitate with a brush then spray it off.

I do just a straight hand wipe down . I use simple green or I use a product called Awesome ( DILUTED) applied with a small spray bottle.
Then I do a final wipe down with Armor All .
Using a pressure sprayer like you do scares me . And I have a brand new Simpson.

I clean my all my engines every 3 to 6 months! I use Simple Green 50/50 mix in spray bottle let soak for 10-15 minutes then spray again wait about 5 minutes then power wash. Then a light coat of Stoners “Trimshine”!
I hardly ever have the wiring and hose issues other people have. My theory (no proof) is the dirt and grime accelerates the dry rot process of the plastic and rubber! Plus these vehicles cost more than my first house why would you not meticulously care for them!?!?

supposedly i cracked an up pipe on my 7.3. I always wash a cold engine ever since. No issues.

I always disconnect my batteries just encase water gets where you don't want it. Then I use low psi air to dry engine bay.

I find when I clean my engine if I use it to greaser but it destroys any any sensors that I have I have on the engine. Just use the soap at the self serve car wash. Some of them offer degrees or but I would Not use it on my engine. Open water and running unlike the man says in the video keep it moving.
I wash my engine down before any major repair. I also arrive an hour ahead of my appointment and open the hood so it’s not hot. I’m also of the opinion that motors run a little cooler if clean but the difference is probably inconsequential?

That AC sticker must not be made to well. I hand washed my 2019 250 and it came off with just regular water hose pressure the first time. First time I ever had one come off doing that way.

I noticed the green coolant. Mine and most of the newer trucks I see have orange. Is the green better? I have a buddy that just changed his to green per a retired service manager from our local Ford dealer. Says the green is less corrosive. Whats your opinion on coolant?

I soak 7 or 8 cans of decrease at the boat ramp then sit for 20 minutes and drive the truck into the salt water flushes every thing out good

Have you ever ran into a 6.7L leaking coolant from the engine front cover. I currently have one in the shop that appears to be leaking but I have never seen it before.

Granted alot can be found through Google but only with correct wording sometimes.

I must have done something wrong. Used this product because of this vid. per bottles instructions and noticed it washed away some label prints above the HP plastic cover. It had some type of QR code. Not sure what the label was for. I’d like to replace the stickers but part dept has a hard time finding it.

I wouldn't feel comfortable spraying that much water on my 6.0 PS. Probably best to spray on the foam, let sit then blow off with air.
