Great video! You need to beat this into the powerstroke owners heads. They pony up 10 k extra for the engine over a great running 6.2L,just to cheap out on filters and oil changes. Not sure why but most local powerstroke owners seem to think that they can go 10000 plus miles between oil changes? Same owners don’t change fuel filters until the truck loses power or eats a cp4. Noticed same with the 7.3/6.0 s they all need injectors due to stiction, which is caused by too long an oil change interval.

  • @Graveltrucking
    @Graveltrucking 3 года назад +3

I work as an unlicensed HD, maintenance is important I've got excavators and trucks to maintain. Owning a 6.0 isn't been the wisest decisions I've made. I've had 3 of them my previous F450s were not as costly as my current 2005 F-350 in the 9 years I roughly totaled it up I've spent 18,000 dollars on a truck I've put 86,000kms on (53,400 miles) on. One little engine repair turns into a costly repair, if your in there you might as well fix all the other parts that fail. My current issue I have is head gaskets going at 240,000km (149,000miles), I know my injectors are getting tired. My 6.0 has wore out its welcome and drained my bank account over the years.

    • @15Jeep
      @15Jeep 2 года назад

Normally, I prefer OEM...at least most of the time. There are exceptions as some aftermarket parts can be of much better quality. The 6.0L PSD had many weak poor quality surrounding operating systems....not the engine per se, but supporting systems.
Two fairly inexpensive fixes to greatly improve the reliability and durability of the 6.0L PSD. 1. Change (eliminate / get rid of) the Motorcraft Premium Gold Coolant (contains silicates).....flush it all out with distilled water...then add (change over to) Caterpillar (CAT) - red color - Extended Life Coolant (ELC) - EC-1 rated (NO silicates). 2. Remove the OEM EGR Cooler and replace with a good free flowing aftermarket EGR Cooler. This will resolve most of the potential overheating issues leading to cracked heads.
There are additional high quality aftermarket parts available from Bullet Proof Diesel (BPD) in Arizona. The 6.0L PSD suffered from poor oil cooling, inadequate oil filtration (small oil filter). The HEUI fuel injectors were oil pressure (30,000+ PSI) actuated electronically controlled injectors. Lot of thermal (heat) activity causing quick oil breakdown. Oil services the engine and the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) for the fuel injectors.
      1. FICM - CNC machined aluminum billet
      2. Water Pump - CNC machined aluminum - impeller and housing
      3. Engine Oil Cooler - oil to air - works much better than OEM (OEM is oil to coolant)
      4. Large Remote Oil Filter
      5. Turbo Drain Tube
      6. ARP Head Studs
I had a 2006 F350 CC 4WD 172 SRW with all of the above BPD aftermarket parts, plus a couple other parts. In addition, the truck had a PacBrake Exhaust Brake.....that worked VERY well. It cost some $$,$$$.$$ to get it that way...but was definitely a towing machine!!!
The 6.4L PSD is completely different story. Not many great fixes for it. NO fix if the block suffers water cavitation behind the water pump! That PSD is a piece of junk!

What about for the guys who run an Amsoil Bypass oil system? I run one on both my 6.0 and 6.7 powerstrokes. I typically go 10k on the 6.0 between oil changes. I do have the oil tested at 5 k and always comes back good. Even at 10k it still shows good. I was told I could go upwards of 20k if I replace the filters every 10k but don’t want to chance it. How long do you think I could run between oil changes on the 6.7 I’m doing 7500 now and the oil is always tested and shows good . Struggling with my self to push it further than that with the bypass system. Keep in mind it runs 3 filters total for the oil.

I would not go 10K miles between oil changes on 6.0L PSD or even on a 7.3L PSD. Keep in mind the 6.0L PSD has Hydraulically actuated Electronically controlled Unit Injector (HEUI - fuel injectors). The oil pressure 30,000+ PSI.....causing a lot of thermal (heat) activity leading to quick oil breakdown...regardless of the number of filters in the system.
In addition, the 6.0L PSD suffers from poor oil cooling, inadequate oil filtration (small oil filter). Oil services the engine and the High Pressure Oil Pump (HPOP) for the fuel injectors. Lot to ask for the oil. Hot Shot Secret - Stiction Eliminator and FR3 are a must for the 6.0L PSD.....and even the 7.3L PSD cause it also has HPOP and HEUI fuel injectors. Bullet Proof Diesel (BPD) provides a much better engine oil cooling system for the 6.0L PSD.

Definitely a great schedule to go by. I believe if any truck is carrying large loads or towing loads daily the transfer case and rear diff should be serviced around 50-60k since it is cheap! Many people don't realize how cheap some fluid services even after doing them twice in 100k vs a major component failure because they didn't want to spend 500 bucks on some fluid services.

Dumped the oil at 1k after letting her eat. (And she got a set of duratracs because the factory continentals suck)
Did it again at 5k to get on a 5k(oil) and 10k (oil and fuel) schedule.
Every 5k I rotate since the crew cab long beds REALLY like to scallop the shoulder treads of any aggressive tire.
Every fall dump the drive line fluids to prepare for winter. Never had any issues with any one of my previous trucks with that schedule.
To add to this, 3rd generation fleet mechanic, ford trucks and international junks. Wise words of the old guys, fluids are cheap, hard parts ain't.

So if I go off the intelligent life monitor, it’s based on time I never get the mileage. I have put 1500 miles in 6m
I only run full synthetic Amsoil and I have the Amsoil bypass filter system on my truck.
I was going to have the oil tested due to never hitting mileage.
What would you recommend for time oil that never hit mileage intervals?
    2018 F250 6.7 with 50k for mileage

I did get the dealership to reseal upper pan that was leaking under warranty.
Oil light just came on so I’m guessing dealer didn’t do oil life reset. I might have 800m since repair was done. I always bring my own Amsoil for oil change.
3-5k and disregard dash oil change required light?

I'm legit going for 1M miles. Changing oil has been a religion for me with all my vehicles. Now that I have a 6.7 fuel filters have become part of that routine. To keep it simple, I just automatically change FF's every other oil change despite having a FASS installed.

Lost me on the coolant. Guess I’ve never had any crap in my coolant. If I had, perhaps I’d understand the 30k interval. Maintain mine with an open checkbook. Oil at 5-6k. Whatever gets it into the barn on a Saturday night. Rear diff every 50k. Trans every 50 k. Front diff at 100k. Fuel filter every 25k. Maybe I just get good fuel. I drain my WIF at oil change. Collect 1Q in a mason jar. Never had more than a couple drops of water in the jar after settling. Hell, that could be from fueling in the rain& snow, or snow/ice in the tip at the station. Most of the time zip/nada. Always high volume stations/commercial fuel locations. Air filter typically 35k ish. Never wait until the indicator says change. I change it as soon as the monitor moves. What about flushing brake fluid. 100k or 3yrs for me. Towing moderate loads (7-10k) 25% of the miles. Don’t forget that cabin filter.

Great info and video as usual my man. I do my transfer at 30k when I do my trans bc I already have the fluid right by me. I do my diffs like every 30k as well, maybe sooner on the rear if it’s been hauling a lot. I think diff/trans covers are a interesting topic, watched the “mini series” Banks did on RUclips interesting stuff. Most do more harm than good at least on the diff covers.

What do you think about this, keep in mind I’m going for better than what Ford recommends, but also I cannot afford overkill that would result in two things huge cost and then also a lot of downtime.
I am at 1,400 miles now.
My first oil change will be at 2K. And then like clockwork every 5K after that I also will grease front and rotate tires, I already purchased the new Motorcraft oil filter and I purchased Motorcraft 5W40 full synthetic.
I’m going to use Motorcraft fuel filters, both top rail and bottom rail. I will change them every 10k.
I have a 48 gallon fuel tank. It’s an F350 crew cab long bed I literally left the dealership stopped in tractor supply picked up hot shot. Secret EDT added 3 ounces to the full fuel tank provided by Ford. I religiously stick to the no less than 1/4 of a tank rule. I never let it run lower than that.
I only use chevron mainly because I have a fuel card for it. (Small business owner, contractor)

I noticed you did not mention VC-8. Is it not recommended for use in 6.7s? Also, where can I get those orange things you use to prevent dirt from entering the intake ports when the lower 'plenum' is removed? I believe you said they come on a new replacement engine. As an aftermarket tech, I don't have access to those. I watch your videos religiously. Your dealer-level info is occupational gold to me.
