Just completed the install. Easy peasy. Of course if you have been working on cars and trucks for over 50 years yourself, it’s pretty easy. If you haven’t. Watch this video at least 3 times and stop it when you need to. Great job guy !

Didn’t know I should be draining the yellow nozzle every month. I’m about to do my first fuel filter change on my 21 f250 and this was the best video I’ve found so far! Definitely earned a subscriber today! Thank you for the information!!!
Your excitement about draining the fuel filter is infectious! I am now totally stoked about watching someone else do it! Sweet! Your videos are becoming much more interesting to watch. I enjoy how you explain all the small details of the job. Great video!
I change the oil on my truck but always pay to replace the fuel filters on my F250 SD. You just saved me $300 each time I change the oil. Best video on RUclips!!! Thanks man
I am a fleet mechanic for a public utility in California. The majority of our larger trucks are the Navistar 7500 series, our smaller trucks are exclusively Super Duties. I have suffered through the 7.3/6.0/6.4 and now the 6.7. We still have a lot of Gen 1 6.7s but they are slowly being replaced by the newest 6.7. I don't know why it took Ford this long to come up with a more efficient lower fuel filter. I wish they had done this years ago, but I gladly welcome the change. The problem with the older filters is the trucks spend a lot of time off road and by the time I have to change the lower filter it is caked under an inch of dried mud. I have to blast it with a pressure washer before I can find it. Something I want to add it our trucks spend a better part of their time idling. The users drive them to the job site, then the truck spends all day idling to run the PTO. This is why we schedule our services by hours instead of miles. If your viewers use their trucks in the same fashion, I recommend changing the fuel filters about every 500 hours. Thank you for sharing this video and especially for driving home the point of draining the water separator. I try to encourage the users to drain them regularly. But, as long as the truck gets them from point A to point B, they don't do anything else. I can spend hours telling horror stories of what water can do to a fuel system.
I have to agree with everyone else that this is by far one of the best how to change your fuel filters on a ford Heavy Duty truck that I have come across. Excellent camera lighting and editing, gets right to the point. Keep up the good work and I will now be a subscriber and will be looking forward to more videos.
After watching this video I had to check out a few more of your vids. Very well done with no fluff or extraneous nonsense. Thanks a bunch. I am now a subscriber.
I agree with the previous guy. I have a 2020 ford F250 diesel. l ordered a filter for it and expected to get the same kind of a deal as my 2001 Ford 7.3 power stroke. Got 2 filters and did not know what the hell was going on. Your video was by far the very best how to video I've ever watched. You need to make a whole bunch of other videos on different subjects. Thanks again cowboy!
Great video! Direct and to the point. No taking forever opening packaging or talking excessively about unrelated stuff. I'm new to the 6.7 on my 2020 F-250 I just bought. I saw the mods on that truck. Same mods I want to do!
Just changed mine out on my 17 350. Took me 15 minutes. The far left connection on my under the hood filter was different than yours and the one they send the adapter for. Weird. Good stuff bro, I’m really appreciating your channel and everything you show us.
This is the third video i've watched for changing fuel filters. I don't know how youtube arranges videos, but I'm sure glad I watched as many as I did. The first was not very good, the guy just pulled the top filter straight up and pushed the new one down and was kind of rushed on the fuel line connections, the second video was better, this is the third one and by far the best! Enough detail so that I feel confident in doing this myself. Will check back after it warms up a bit and I get it done.
Not gonna lie brother I’ve been doing this wrong. Normally I drain the fuel and while it’s draining I then replace the canister fuel filter on the engine then replace the cartridge filter on the tank. Once done that’s when I cycle the on/off button but not for 10sec. I do it for 30sec and only 4 times. After that I fire it up check for leaks and ride off into the sunset. John Wayne style. And just so you know I’m not a diesel technician just a diesel owner from way back. But after seeing this I realize the potential of debris being trapped in the lines from the cartridge filter to the canister filter. So I’m thankful for the information in your videos. And on a side note raise hell shit the bed.
Yo PTT just rolled over 15k on my 19 SD and did my first fuel change myself. Saved me $250! Shout out to ya for your content and videos! I’ll admit was nervous, like a dog shitting a peach pit but Made it super comfortable to do. Peace!

Great video wish I would have found it before changing my filter on my 2021 f550 I messed up the rubber lines in the tank supply line and now I’m figuring out how to replace . it awesome video !
Question, how do you turn the key on to fill up the housing, while having a push button start? or did I miss something. Definatly new to this world. Thanks.
The 17 and 18 have a strait line that breaks very easy, that's a support to keep it from snapping off. The 17 needs to have the top filter removed first else it won't break the siphon on the bottom filter and you can drain a lot of fuel from you tank. Ford change something in the later models that stop this

If I drain the water monthly do I need to cycle the “key” like in other videos to fill it back up before starting it? Thank you and enjoying the videos!
Jubb...GREAT QUESTION!!!! THANK YOU FOR BEING ENGAGED IN MY VIDEO! I would highly recommend that you cycle the key as i did, to prime that ol girl to life
Looks super easy and less mess then ‘11-‘16 model years. His exhaust system looks like my ‘12 with weight reduction done. No Limit Fab. was my go to for weight deduction!
Your bad ass!!!!! I’m gonna change my oil separator since I’m taking off the fuel filter. My 2020 6.7 f350 has 87k miles on it. Might as well do it since it’s there. Thank you for the vid, you made it very simple to do.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod thanks again brother everything went smooth. I did not have a oil separator which I have no clue why but all went well. I’m a f&@ken diesel mechanic now. Lol
Thanks so much, only have 2000 kilometres on my new baby so far! (Sorry for the Canuck measurements, lol) I will have to drain the water this weekend and get in the habit, great tip! Great channel, keep it up!
Just picked up my 2022 F350 Lariat. I came across your channel and love it. My son has a 2019 F350 lariat also. We both have the 6.7 diesels. Sent your link to him also. Very informative with your videos. We both live in Minnesota and have block heaters. ( Watched that video to) thank you for what you doing to help everyone.
Great detailed vid! Just got my 2019 6.7 and have been looking through the manual. Says to change fuel filter at 30K and drain water filter every oil change. What do you think about that?
I got a 2019 superduty. I changed the fuel filters yesterday, same as previous times. I did the 5 initial turn the key on and off to prime the system. The first couple times you really hear the fuel housing fill up which is normal. But normally after about 5 times I dont here anything at the water separator. So I did it a few more times and kept hearing a little sputtering for a couple of seconds. Like I said, usually all the noise from the frame rail filter goes away. I drove it a few miles and now the noise is gone when I just turn the key and not start it.
I also only use motorcraft filters. I guess what I'm asking is it normal for some sputtering remaining after cycling the key several times? I initially was nervous to start it cause I still could hear some noise from the frame rail filter.
Ive watched 2 or 3 videos around stock and updated fuel filters by you. Great stuff! I just became the owner of a 2021 350 platinum. One question when you cycle the key to prime the filters, how do i do that with a push button start?
Nice video! My 2019 F250 has the same filters. I've drained the lower filter a couple times and had no water in the filter. Only have 20k miles on truck. Plan to change upper and lower filter at 30k. Will do it myself.
One thing to add to the video is to make sure the fuel level is below 3/4 of a tank. Mine was near full and I walked away while it was draining into a 5 gallon bucket and it drained 4 gallons of diesel fuel into the bucket.
I just posted another comment as I experienced the same thing today when changing mine and I had a full tank of fuel. What fixed it for me was the start loosening the 5 bolts holding the filter housing and that broke the vacuum/seal and it didn't drain much longer after than. For the monthly service I will make sure to try it when the fuel tank is much lower to see if that avoids the issue as well.
Thanks so much for your videos I put a jug of def in my fuel tank you're fuel filter and drain the tank videos really saved my ass I hope other people can benefit from them to thanks again
Just got my 2020 f250 6.7 XL last month. Seeing this video made me go drain mine. I noticed that it’s all nasty and dripping fuel I called to make a appointment hopefully it’s covered under warranty for me
When you mentioned draining every month on filter that’s located next to the diesel tank, do you have to turn the the key for 10 secs as well (6x) after draining the fuel&water
Great video as usual, I did mine without any issues but I don’t see a fuel filter life monitor to reset , did Ford not put it in the cluster ? 2020 F350 Platinum
I may just do my filters once a year because I just looked and I changed my oil on 9/13/21 and my 2017 F350 dually truck had 36,324 miles.. Its a week from being 6 months since my last oil change and ive only put 2100 miles on it in 6 months. It will take me 5 years to hit 10,000 miles between filter changes.
Be careful with the yellow drain valve. The first time I did my filter change I somehow broke the little nubs off that ride in the slots. The local ford dealer didn't have them in stock so my truck was out of commission until it came in. Its such a cheap part I keep a spare in my glove box now.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod LOL, not sure how I managed to screw it up but It happened to this guy too. ruclips.net/video/Uk1Q8udmHdc/видео.html SPE actually makes a billet aluminum replacement. I love your video's bro, keep em coming.
The first mod I did on my 2020 F250 was to replace that plastic drain valve with the one from SPE. I stuck the plastic one in a bag and put in the glove box.
Sorry one more request. I think most of us with the 2020 have the recall for the front and rear facing camera. Just wondered if it’s quick fix and If I can wait for my truck and schedule with the oil change? And the truck is asking for a second oil change and I’m just turning 6k miles. 1 more sorry when do I ask to have the fuel filters changed if I am less then 10k. 2020 F250 Platty. Michigan born and raised!
I have been very good about changing the filters but very bad about draining it that often. I thought the truck would notify via computer sensor if water was at all present and would prompt you when to drain. I have 73,000 miles and no water thank god. Another problem is finding a location to dispose of the fuel. We full time RV and sometimes it is a problem.
Not sure if Arod mentioned this in another video or not, but I absolutely wouldn’t even think about doing this job unless I had a spare yellow drain plug or an aluminum one available. They break way too easy.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod seriously you haven’t?! I did my first filter change today and those little ears popped right off when I was tightening it. Maybe 3/4 tight and they came off.
Ok! Another great vid! so now I will start draining every month. How much can I expect out of there and for the everyday do it yourselfer what do you do with the fuel? Can it go with your oil to get recycled?
Hi, thanks for the video, its clear and well explained. Question regarding (ignition on 6 times), what is the process for F250 with Press Start? Shall I press 6 times?
Might seem like an odd question but does the brake cleaner have any chance of damaging filter or electrical clip on the bottom of lower fuel filter assembly?
I’ve been curious about draining the water in the fuel as well. I’ve been wanting to see when the water in fuel indicator would illuminate. I’m currently at 43,000 miles without draining and no water in fuel indicator. Edit. I guess you can say I drained it once when I did my fuel filter change at 25,000 miles
Just watched this video and I am running about 55,000 Miles on my 2018 not sure if i have drained the water fuel indictor but I believe i should do this
Best fuel filter video out there for sure! Well all your videos are very informative for backyard mechanics (word is used very loosely lol). I understand the prices I just have a question. Why prime the fuel system after changing the lower filter and before changing the upper filter? Why are you not suppose to change both and then prime the system? Again I fully understand what you said to do I just like to know why sometimes, lol. Again thank you for all of your videos!
After changing the bottom filter u did the key cycled then the top filter and key cycle , would l do the same for my 2016 , l have done the key cycle after doing both filters thanks. Good video ARod thanks as always

Easy peasy
Looks like it's got a clean delete tune on it too.
Very
It should run much longer without incidents now!
Yes
Getting ready to change mine this weekend, very informative!
Great video as usual, I did mine without any issues but I don’t see a fuel filter life monitor to reset , did Ford not put it in the cluster ? 2020 F350 Platinum
Nope
I drain mine into a glass jar just to see and make sure it has or doesn't have any H2O.
Same here broski
I've been changing fuel filters on those sense 2017 I have never broken one what are you doing using a 1/2 inch breaker bar🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙊🙊🙊🙊🙊
Thanks pal, spread my work!!!!
The first mod I did on my 2020 F250 was to replace that plastic drain valve with the one from SPE. I stuck the plastic one in a bag and put in the glove box.
Great video! I have push button starter on my 2020f350 srw. How do I cycle the system 6 times?
Read the comments silly
Fantastic video. Used this to recently change mine. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. Super helpful. You’re a talented guy
Excellent video very informative... Thank you!!! Why doesn't the 2011-14 6.7L have the water separator...
Lololol.....they do ALL diesels have them. Diesel is hydroscopic...look it up
I have been very good about changing the filters but very bad about draining it that often. I thought the truck would notify via computer sensor if water was at all present and would prompt you when to drain. I have 73,000 miles and no water thank god. Another problem is finding a location to dispose of the fuel. We full time RV and sometimes it is a problem.
I can understand
How often do you change fuel filters?
15k miles
Not sure if Arod mentioned this in another video or not, but I absolutely wouldn’t even think about doing this job unless I had a spare yellow drain plug or an aluminum one available. They break way too easy.
Nver broke one.....what r u guys doing to these things....like fer real
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod seriously you haven’t?! I did my first filter change today and those little ears popped right off when I was tightening it. Maybe 3/4 tight and they came off.
Never....& believe me i have no reason to bullshit
Ok! Another great vid! so now I will start draining every month. How much can I expect out of there and for the everyday do it yourselfer what do you do with the fuel? Can it go with your oil to get recycled?
Every month, drain it for 30 secs.....cycle key 6 times...10 sec duration. AND NO DONT DUMP THAT SHIT IN UR OIL, CMON...you wanna come see me!!!🤨
Fantastic info. Now I feel confident doing this myself. Thanks!
Great video! Quick question, how do I / we cycle the key to bump the bowls full of fuel if we have push button start?
Right derrrr in da comments..answered, may be even pinned...🤷♂️
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod , Thanks, but I still can't seem to find it?
Lets think, how 1 one listen the radio with out starting it.......hmmmm
Hi, thanks for the video, its clear and well explained.
Question regarding (ignition on 6 times), what is the process for F250 with Press Start? Shall I press 6 times?
Brother, ya gotta make due diligence before you ask......ReAD the comments. Went over many many of times....
Might seem like an odd question but does the brake cleaner have any chance of damaging filter or electrical clip on the bottom of lower fuel filter assembly?
Not a chance
I’ve been curious about draining the water in the fuel as well. I’ve been wanting to see when the water in fuel indicator would illuminate. I’m currently at 43,000 miles without draining and no water in fuel indicator.
Edit. I guess you can say I drained it once when I did my fuel filter change at 25,000 miles
Just watched this video and I am running about 55,000 Miles on my 2018 not sure if i have drained the water fuel indictor but I believe i should do this
Thanks for the video. You made the job easy!
Lol you're definitely captivating. "Shout out to no limit, uuuhhhhhh!!!"
Na na na nahhhhhh
I feel like I should owe you something for this information!!! Thank you!
I got chu🫡
I’m almost sure everything is the same on the 2021? You earned my subscription btw.
Thank u sir, you r correct.
The air lock needs to be moved to the top. It can't do two air locks. Won't start...
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod gotcha, thank you for the response!
Thanks for this information. It helped greatly!
Is the procedure the same for 2017-2019? Specifically the priming process.
Yes
After changing the bottom filter u did the key cycled then the top filter and key cycle , would l do the same for my 2016 , l have done the key cycle after doing both filters thanks. Good video ARod thanks as always
11-21 is the exact same procedure!! 👍👍👍
