Yeah that's why I roll my eyes at Lord of the Rings, Tolkien was so creative in pretty much everything in worldbuilding Middle-Earth but he couldn't bother to come up with a unique calendar and just stuck to what we have in real life. Like c'mon man, even Fire Emblem: Three Houses came up with unique names for each month of the year.
@@AICW Tolkien did create multiple different calendars as part of world building, but in LOTR he just translated it to our calendar. It is all described in the appendices to the Return of the King.
Instead of just using "September" as the English translation for the 9th month, you could totally argue for an even _more_ direct translation and call it "November" while ignoring the absolute chaos that our calendar went throughout history to leave us with the 9th month having a name that means "7th month." The fact that Luxin can spin hours of content out of the smallest detail in Xenoblade is amazing. Also, it's completely on-brand for this video on a month named similarly to October getting released after the end of October, so don't worry about it. Also, as for Pyra being able to speak the language, I wouldn't say it's that far fetched to say that the language probably hasn't changed all that dramatically in 500 years. If you think about it, we're still able to read and understand things that were written in the 14/15/1600s, and while that may be because England was a major part of the middle ages and we speak a contemporary version of that language, even that's not all that far fetched - considering that Indol has been around and in control for that and maybe longer. Plus, Amalthus has been around since then too, and the party's able to understand him just fine. Then, there's also the fact that Pyra plays a recording of Addam to Eulogimenos in Chapter 6, and there's no communication issues there either. Finally, to respond another comment on this video, there is the fact that Pyra and Mythra do talk to each other and tell each other things, so it's not entirely out of the question that if Amathatober was already named before they were sealed away, had Pyra not learned of it Mythra could have and passed that information on. Then of course, there's also the fact that all blade data gets passed to the Aegises, which is still very much a thing even after Amalthus takes the two cores, since it's as a result of this that Amalthus (and Rex) have access to all blades as Master Drivers. Wow apparently I can write for a while on a small portion of a 30 minute video spun from a single sentence in Xenoblade 2. Cool. One final thing: I do kind of cringe at the name "Amathatober" since it feels like fictional name for October, I think if they'd completely changed the name to something else entirely, or just shortened it a bit since in English we have no months that are longer than 4 syllables (January's the longest at 4), it wouldn't sound so weird. Or just say the numbers, Pyra could have just said something along the lines of 9/5/4058, since we do that for some dates, or when we ask what the date is, we sometimes say 11 25 2023. Also I always thought that the year was in relation to our numbering system, or even to "when the worlds were wrent in twain," but I guess this also makes since. Ok, one more final thing: Since Xenoblade 2 released in December, does that mean its OST is Christmas music?
The story happening near the end of the year is a detail, but I think it was made that way to make a parallel with how the worl itself is nearing its end.
It is Luxin's videos which makes me love xenoblade 2 even more for their vast world building. Plus I like that I'm getting a history lesson for watching.
"But, shut up" -Luxin Fair enough, I was gonna give you crap, but you preemptively told us off, so I guess I'll screw off then, lol. I do agree that releasing it now is better than sitting on this until next October, lol.
i always just assumed it was the same as OUR numbering system, since alrest was created by klaus who was from our world in the year 20XX it would make sense for alrest to just continue using our year system despite nobody actually knowing what 'zero' meant.. therefore '4058' literally just means its 2000 years in the future compared to the real world current day. 20XX and 4058 being the only years mentioned in the base game really supports this for me
The xeno series love to use alternate calendars so that's most likely not the case. XC1 takes place at least 9000 years after Klaus' time since that's the age of the oldest living machina in that game. Xenosaga had our calendar until the 2500s and then switched to a new one and is now in the 4700s of said new calendar (so 5100 years after 2500). Xenogears is even worse in that it uses another calendar that started on the year Xenosaga ended so it's like 10000 years after the 4700s of the Transcend Christ era. So basically 14700 years after the 2500s A.D. With this in mind it's more likely that XC2 has it's own calendar since XC1 already tells us that the experiment wasn't 2000 years ago. XCX is the only one that seems to be using our calendar and that's because it takes place two years after the end of our world so that calendar still somewhat make sense.
@ghirahimlefabuleux8984 We don't know if the flow of time between the two pocket dimensions were equivalent until its failed merging after the events of both 1 and 2, there could very well be a high level of time dilation.
Something to consider is that the game seems to take place across a single month, assuming travel times. The day in the cutscene is the fifth, after a night camp cutscene. So Morag was fought on the 4th, poppi was likely activated something like midnight if that day, so nia was captured the third. With the last camp scene, that means they woke up on Gormott on the second, likely making the day on the ship Amathatober 1st. I kept up this math and found that the day the beanstalk falls is likely Amathatober 30 or 31. In that case, the sunrise in the final cutscene is probably the first day of the next month, possibly referencing the end of Amalthus’ influence on the world. (If the months got renamed after important figures, I like thinking the next one is called Addauary for Addam.)
20:48 we also dont know when malos went lone wolf so the 500 could be referring to when malos became an independent blade or awakened as we know that mythra was resonated with addam for over a year with the goal to take down malos
Thank you for making this video! The timeline and dates of all 3 Xenoblade games seriously need to be discussed. It's actually really bizarre to think Amalthus ruled for practically 500 years when his predecessors only held power for a short time and were probably serving an elected term to the Praetor position. He pretty much orchestrated the events of history and held near-absolute power despite being the cause of most of the world's suffering due to starting the Aegis War. It's almost surprising nobody except Jin's faction questioned or opposed this order during that entire span of time. I think it's also important to mention another date and that's when Ontos/Alvis left for the XC1 dimension. Based on Klaus's dialogue in the final chapter of XC2, this was a separate event from "the experiment". I imagine it happened at around 6000 years prior to the modern day, as that's when Arglus found the Monado and the first Bionis/Mechonis clash occurred. I like to think that Ontos helped contribute DNA imprints of creatures from XC2's world to XC1, and that's why both worlds share similar creatures. Prior to the first clash, Giants and Machina are the primary blueprints for life but post clash we see the arrival of Nopon and humans/homs, which could be the result of Ontos's influence.
I actually don't think Alrest's language changed very much between Pyra being sealed and her waking up, simply because Klaus is able to talk with them all. Sure, he might have been able to learn whatever new language the Alrestians invented, but since he's the one who coded the artificial evolution of life in the first place, wouldn't it make more sense if he just instead programed in the language(s) he already knows and make sure it sticks?
It honestly makes me wonder how language canonically works in this series. I'd assume the original dub language(Japanese) is canon, but we also know for basically certain that they seemingly cannot read Kanji, or at least not the ones displayed on the Monado, since those are more or less treated as gibberish only showing what power is activated and nothing else.
@@lpfan4491 It's pretty clear that their written languages developed differently from the original world. And even their spoken language has words that either didn't exist before or were altered in some way. However, I still believe that the original world's language was used as the starting point. There's also something from Xenoblade 3 that I believe supports this idea as well, but it's kind of spoilery. It's the fact that Kevesi and Agnians, who were from Shulk's and Rex's worlds respectively, are able to understand each other.
My biggest problem with this is Pyra herself. I always took it that Pyra’s time with Addam was EXTREMELY short and Amalthus only JUST rose to power in that time so why would Pyra who has been asleep for 490+ years know that the month had been renamed? The Pneuma core isn’t in the Trinity Processor any more so I’d doubt that’s the reason. So, would that mean that the month would have been named as such even back in TGC times?
I don't think it's crazy to assume she just looked at a calendar in the time between arriving at Gormott and setting out to leave it. Tora probably had one at his house.
it might also be a similar case to a papal name where popes take on a name that emulates a previous leader they respect. though it was his name before becoming Praetor, he may have been given/chosen the name when he became a member of the Praetorium
Even though she isn't in the trinity processor holder, I'm pretty sure data still passes from core crystal to crystal. Why the calendar would be included I can't say.
Well remember, neither was Malos, yet he knew about the secret seal to the Torna titan, and how it isn't in it's original form. Same thing for Mythra (albeit except the seal part).
Now I kinda want a game set in the REALLY early days of Alrest. Maybe when Judicium first seemingly discovered Flesh eaters. Maybe the game will build up to the choice if the main character will become a flesh eater or not. That's something I'd play.
I was going to venture a guess (and you got there too clearly) that the year's numbering would likely be based off of the establishment of the Praetorium.
I always just kind of assumed that the Praetorium either dictated the calendar for Alrest or more likely co-opted the existing one and assigned names to the months in which case yeah of course Amalthus named one after himself. Whether he deserved it or not is then irrelevant. I never thought twice about it cause it just kinda made sense to me that yeah, of course he did that. Considering the level of control he's exerting over Alrest this always seemed feasible to me. (Or others in the Praetorium named it and he feigned humility while secretly relishing it ..."well if you insist")
23:25 could have came from those who made attempt to clime the world tree whichbis still running so it might have the year month number and day number they just wont have the name for the months but know year, month and day also the first titans might have known about the time and passed that down
So im just thinking are we assuming that Amathtober is named for the Amalthus we know, like David is a popular name for a biblical figure and hero, the Amalthus in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 & Torna can be named for a founder of Indol who was famous.
The month could be renamed with every pope like how chine has different dynasties for which family if currently ruling japan has a similar thing but in the form of eras like i mean look at how people sort the Godzilla movies with showa and heisie (idk if spelled right)
With regards to the evolution of civilization, the oldest recorded city was the city of Babylon in C. 1100 BC. The oldest known civilization is the Jomon of the Japenese Islands who traded a type of artistic pottery with each other, the ceramics that the pottery is made from has been dated to C. 1550 BC - C. 1400 BC, so 3,000 years for civilization to develop isn't that bad, it's a bit slow actually. If we're talking biological evolution, then yes, 3,000 years is a blip in the geological time scale, even with Titans and Blades speeding up the development.
Your silly translation you mentioned which obviously wasnt the intended translation is actually wrong though. The kanji to the right of the number 5 only translates into day, sun, or Japan but commonly it is used as day so it cant be translated as son afaik.

I just think of a theory that maybe not the only who think like that but in think we can make an other relation xenosaga/blade I think that alvis form xenoblade 1 more then 3 is an echo of the chaos of the end of saga 3. That way we can link the trinity procesor and the chaos and the other with mean Nephilim is an echo of pneuma and Able an echo of logos I think that because of the zorah played a big role in the 2 games maybe you can develop more on that but hey that my mind and that PS : sorry for the bad english
This topic was always unserious. We can have titans named after real language(Made WORSE by localization, because it was all just Latin or Japanese originally, not like 8 languages they pulled out of their hat), but the calender is the issue even tho it is not an unbelievable headcanon that some salvager found one in the cloud sea or even Land of Morytha. Note that I enjoy the localization and actually agree with it on some level.(Praxis being named after a watergod originally certainly made sense in a vaccuum, but why was Theory named Theory then? That's the most mismatched duo-dynamic ever. Also yes. "seorie" is literally just the english work transcribed, the often cited funfact of blades exclusively having JP-names is not even true.) (And it is not like most people cared that Reyn says "Alley-oop" in the localization of 1 despite that being very tied to both french AND the US culturally, crazy)

Of course the first time I heard it I doubt I was clear on who Amalthus was yet and just thought "well that's a fun nonsense word I dig it"
Amalthus is evil Moses, yeah
23:25 could have came from those who made attempt to clime the world tree whichbis still running so it might have the year month number and day number they just wont have the name for the months but know year, month and day also the first titans might have known about the time and passed that down
People know thwt the land of morytha is so it wouldn't be impossible
That*
Happy Zekecember everyone!
Ayyyy new Luxin dropped
So im just thinking are we assuming that Amathtober is named for the Amalthus we know, like David is a popular name for a biblical figure and hero, the Amalthus in Xenoblade Chronicles 2 & Torna can be named for a founder of Indol who was famous.
I watched a 30 minute video about the name of a month from a video game. Am I'm here thinking, yeah I can see why it makes sense
I miss the World Tree theme.
I miss the Gormotti Jazz theme.
If we're talking biological evolution, then yes, 3,000 years is a blip in the geological time scale, even with Titans and Blades speeding up the development.
this video is immensely stupid. 10/10, little something for everyone
2:35 "When we're in a world with no real connection to earth culture."
Who's gonna tell him?
But why are calendars so rare?
Nice
14:15
Your silly translation you mentioned which obviously wasnt the intended translation is actually wrong though. The kanji to the right of the number 5 only translates into day, sun, or Japan but commonly it is used as day so it cant be translated as son afaik.
The duality of a Xenoblade fan demonstrated by the two Xenoblade calendar videos. One is this one, and the other is this:

Shouldn't it have been amaLthtober
I just think of a theory that maybe not the only who think like that but in think we can make an other relation xenosaga/blade
I think that alvis form xenoblade 1 more then 3 is an echo of the chaos of the end of saga 3. That way we can link the trinity procesor and the chaos and the other with mean
Nephilim is an echo of pneuma and Able an echo of logos
I think that because of the zorah played a big role in the 2 games
maybe you can develop more on that but hey that my mind and that
PS : sorry for the bad english
Amatha~ ≠ Amalthus
Where'd the L go, buddy?
I miss these Xenoblade 2 vids
This topic was always unserious. We can have titans named after real language(Made WORSE by localization, because it was all just Latin or Japanese originally, not like 8 languages they pulled out of their hat), but the calender is the issue even tho it is not an unbelievable headcanon that some salvager found one in the cloud sea or even Land of Morytha.
Note that I enjoy the localization and actually agree with it on some level.(Praxis being named after a watergod originally certainly made sense in a vaccuum, but why was Theory named Theory then? That's the most mismatched duo-dynamic ever. Also yes. "seorie" is literally just the english work transcribed, the often cited funfact of blades exclusively having JP-names is not even true.)
(And it is not like most people cared that Reyn says "Alley-oop" in the localization of 1 despite that being very tied to both french AND the US culturally, crazy)
To answer your question about Praxis and Theory, Theory is named Theory to match with Praxis so that it sounds like“In Practice” and “In Theory”
@@may83195 You goofy, I literally mentioned that Praxis is named something else in the original japanese.
