It's insane how no other game in this series has even come close to Graces in terms of gameplay/customization. Such was the magic of Hideo Baba I guess. Seriously, could anyone imagine if modern Tales games got this kind of gameplay? Either way, you convinced me. This is going on my list. Great review man.
Technically we do have a more modern Tales game that has more gameplay and customization than Graces, Zestiria. It's made by the same team as Graces, but is universally hated for being too complex in combat and with its overly complex fusing/ability system.
@Swillo I disagree, so does most of the Tales fan base. I just finished Tales of Zesty two days ago. Everything I said is true. You can still like it, but nothing I said was false. I do like Zesty 's characters, except Rose and Denzel, and the overall story was good. Zesty 's post credit scene was fantastic. Zesty's lore and writing were both great. But all of the games systems were too complex. I have played Tales of Zestiria, Vespiria, Phantasia - both the SNES & psx versions, Symphonia, Abyss, Xillia, Grace F, Eternia, and Arise. I am currently playing Beseria now.

Wow they're still doing the bring back the old VAs again like the Versperia remaster. That's pretty cool. I just hope we get to Xillia, its my favorite out of every game. Specifically 1 because of the 2 route story mode. My PS3 died and I started on Jude's side and fought the sea monster while Milia was bounded by Presa.
I can’t wait to play this again. Hands down one of the best battle systems in the series and I love the characters deeply. I’m still shocked we’re getting a remaster but better late then never.
The fact you start this game as young kids and go into young adults remind me heavily of the first Golden Sun game. May not seem like much but it really does move the story along.
The battle system in this game was such a breath of fresh air for the franchise. Until then, you could very easily just follow the old too familiar pattern of: normal attack + normal attack + normal attack + art. Rense and repeat until the end of the game. The idea of only using arts was phenomenal. PS: I just disovered Sophie is voiced by Kana Hanazawa in Japanese. I think I'll use that VO this time around.

Much to my surprise, instead of being a series redeemer like so many described it, Tales of Arise became the first tales game I’ve ever actively disliked (as opposed to just being a little let down or indifferent). I swear, I had to scrape and claw to the end of that game, I was so ready for it to just be over… I’m so excited for this game though, as it’s a full return to the era I loved. Graces and Abyss have always been neck and neck for my all time favorite tales game - so I absolutely can’t wait to play this one, and I’ve got my fingers crossed for an Abyss remaster coming up before too long.
It is indeed one of the best in the series. The story, worlds, combat and level up system are addictive. I think only Tales of Vesperia beats it for me. But I am not even sure. I will play this remaster an decide.

I used to hate this game purely because of Pascal. I thought she was the most insufferable character I'd ever met in an RPG... ... until Sea of Stars. Where I met Garl. Garl took the crown as the most insufferable RPG character ever. Now I feel I owe Pascal an apology and to give Tales of Graces f a second chance.

Wow so this "deluxe" edition only gives DIGITAL goods like artbook, music and some cheat in game potions that ruins the gaming experiences but common where are the days where Deluxe editions included plushies or 2B wall scrolls, this is just lazy. I have some games in my backlog... adding to wishlist and waiting for the moment i decide to hit the play button to "buy" it AKA renting a license on steam.
Which ones did you try? I love tales but I always felt like each game excels in one area and then ends up a little weak everywhere else. Like Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 has my favorite combat in the series but the story always felt a little weak to me. I think each game has a great cast of characters and the Skits help make them lovable and memorable! That is probably the most consistently great thing the series does imo
Too bad all the characters speak with this alien, breathy but soulless, vaguely American accent. I hate this for RPGs. We're in a magical land, why have everyone speak like they're reading the news? Is it possible to play with Japanese audio?

It's good, but not awesome like Tales of Abyss. It is waaaaay better than Tales of Legendia.

Gameplay wise, Graces blows Abyss out the water (you can do a lot straight out the gate, and it only ramps from there).
