    I own a 2020 Triumph Tiger 1200 XCX and just bought the Pan America Special with all the options. Both bikes will compliment each other depending on the adventure at hand. The harley will definitely do better off road. Harley killed it with the Pan America!!! The bike is AMAZING!! Better than BMW, KTM and certainly Ducati. This is a motorcycle the other companies now have to compare to. I think it just set a new benchmark in the ADV world. Now I own 2 of the best.

    Fantastic review, you hit the nail on the head…. I’ve had adventure bikes for past 10 years and a Harley for the last 6. Now I’ve just traded my Road King Touring Harley for the Pan America. I can remain in HOG with all the rallies and camaraderie that goes with it but keep my adventure bike. I also own a Multistrada 950S, I may not have that come next summer providing the Pan Am performs as promised. One thing I noticed in bad traffic on a hot day, there is a lot of heat from the rear exhaust header or cylinder, perhaps more than my Ducati, when the engine gets hot, the neutral is difficult to select, it may have just been the bike I demoed but be aware.

      The downside of giving up your MS950S is it has about 25+kg more carrying capacity than the PA...which has a measly 201kg payload and precludes 2-up touring (unless you and your SO are the svelt types).

    Well it’s certainly not a Monet! I totally get Harley having to be radical given the competition, and it’s a bit slab faced but it’s cool in its way. My one gripe as a prospective buyer is the sound of the motor and the EU strangulation of the exhaust.
    Excellent, polished review. Thank you.

    My Pan America Special overheated and blew the engine at 5,000 miles halfway through a 2,500-mile trip. The bike has now been in the shop for three weeks, and today, I finally got an update on the cause. The Tech tells me the manifold going from the Oil Pump to the engine's top-end came loose. They are still waiting for Harley Corp tech support to get back with further instructions. I love the bike, but it doesn't seem like the dealerships want anything to do with servicing and repair it. I hope Harley takes care of me, but I'm skeptical due to being in the shop for three weeks and not getting any update other than they are waiting on Harley's tech support. I did ask the Tech how much internal damage there was, and they said Harley had not instructed them to make any more tear down; they just wanted pics of the cause. However, the Tech did tell me that they did a compression check on the cylinders, and they are entirely different front to back, and there is coolant in my engine oil. Fingers Crossed!

      The dealership informed me yesterday afternoon. Harley is shipping a new motor asap, and they have the engine ready to ship. Snake River Harley Davidson in Twin Falls, ID, also told me that it's their number one priority to get my bike back on the road. It was a slow-going first three weeks in the shop, but things seem to be moving now.

    @RichDunn 3 года назад +1

    The lack of a quick-shifter is annoying, as is 5k service intervals. And screen adjuster-wise, they should have just copied the Multistrada V4. Otherwise having ridden it a few times, I agree it's surprisingly good. Another great point I didn't hear you mention, is hydraulic lifters, so no valve adjustment services required. Sort the screen, quick-shifter, and make the service intervals 10k, then BMW and Ducati should begin to worry.

    • @MadChalet
      @MadChalet 3 года назад

      That was a good way to address it. Personally, I don't think it's any more of an issue that KTM's mantis-like headlight, or BMW's tendency to go asymmetrical. As said, they needed to do something different, and different things take some time to grow on you. I've actually come to like the PA's headlight. :-) I really wish reviews would address nighttime riding abilities, though ... how well does the headlight work?

    • @allwheeldrive
      @allwheeldrive 3 года назад

      @@MadChalet It's not so much the styling direction as it was execution. That bull-nosed item that appears to house the front light could've been easily more elegantly rendered. It's distinctive, but no in a good way. The same form but not as blunt and beefy would've been more in line with the rest of the design, and would given it a bit more of an athletic look. But he's right. You won't see it from behind the screen! And it's not as bad in black.

    1) Poor Heated Grips - As an all year rider the grips are poor compared to the competition, even the ones they fit to their own Cruisers!
    2) Text too Small on the TFT.
    3) Can't have mph and °C as standard units, you are limited to either mph with °F or km/h with °C.
    4) Steering lock is located below the steering damper buried deep within the bike making it extremely difficult to use.
    5) No keyless - Ignition is keyless but fuel cap and steering lock are not.
    6) Suspension in sport mode is too soft.
    7) Lacks torque compared to its main competitors.
    8) Lack of Pillion Room with Top Box.
    9) Too much heat from the rear cylinder, why no rear cylinder deactivation?
    10) No option of quickshifter.
    11) Dealers seem perplexed by the bike which doesn't inspire confidence.
