I used to hate your words of wisdom they never appealed to me and I always would skip past them but the last few weeks I have genuinely found myself finding a lot of meaning in them and it has made me seriously find faith
I just saw the Pan America for the first time in person yesterday when I went to ask for the Riding Academy program at my local Harley dealer. For some reason the bike seemed "smaller" in real life than in the photos and videos, which, in my mountain bike experience, should be better for flicking it around in between the trees. I liked it. A lot. I liked the "industrial" look of the headlight and the general "rugged" design of it. I liked that it looks different from other ADV bikes, and the mountain biker in me fell in love with it in an instant. I hope of one day owning one. Cheers, Sean.
Its also a huge POS. The Pan America was named the most unreliable motorcycle on the market by Consumer Reports. Read the forums, these bikes are beyond awful.
I bought a 2023 Pan AM, no doubt it is fast, fun and unique. However, it broke two days after I bought it, shut down and screen went black and wouldn't start. Goes to dealer, get it back. Broke immediately again. I lose excitement and trust for the bike. I then ride it around town for about 500 miles. It's doing okay so I decide to ride from NC to IA when my Mom had health issues. The entire way kept having issues. Audio controls and GPS quit working, had ride mode failure with warnings and faults. Ride modes no longer functioning. Then bike would occasionally not start. I took to the IA Harley dealer. They had it a month and a rep came out from Harley. Said nothing was wrong with it. They gave me some BS answers and just reset everything. I had to leave it there since I couldn't trust it. Then had to pay to have it transported to NC. IMMEDIATELY after unloading the bike wouldn't start and had faults. Goes to dealer again and they clear faults and reset it and say it is good. I have pics, videos, documentations and everything. After making the 1000 mile trip to Iowa the bike Has 2k miles on it. Harley won't buy it back, help me get in to another bike, won't even offer more warranty. NOTHING! To add to their poor customer service I have owned 4 Harleys and bought 2 new ones about a year apart. I'd think at 34 years old they'd want to keep me as a customer. I have loved the brand my entire life and no longer have any love or respect for them. Including buying a Pan Am special, with hard bags, fog lights, exhaust, axle guards and many add ons and extended warranty I am $29,991 invested. I asked the dealer what they'd give me for the bike to trade into something else. They offered me $9k after all this, so after getting stuck with a lemon I'd have to take that big of a hit......I hired a lawyer. Hopefully I can get out of this nightmare. I am flying to Milwaukee next week to go to corporate too and try to discuss, I hit a wall with customer service and they won't let me talk to anyone above my "rep." I have never felt so helpless and stuck with a poor quality and expensive purchase/product. Reply
I am sorry to hear about your problems. I hope you have solved them. My girlfriend and I went on a camping trip from Denmark, through Germany and France to Monaco and back on the GT550 in 1979. We saw a lot of Harleys and American cars sitting at the side of the Autobahns and Autoroutes. In the eighties we went to Milano. The stranded cars had disappeared but we still saw some Harleys. This year I only went to Harz but did not see anybody stranded at all. Maybe this is about to change again?
It's not unique. There are plenty of other options and Harley was late to the adventure bike game. The classics: BMW GS(A) Honda Africa Twin Yamaha Super Ténéré Triumph Tiger KTM Super Adventure S
Truth, justice and the American way. If it was a plane, submarine or gun we would be force to buy it. China and Russia RESPECT there customers and friends.
I have been an avid motorcyclist for over 50 years, but never really caught the cruiser bug, which left me sort of disconnected with Harley Davidson. But I think they hit a home run with the Pan America, and proved without a doubt they are an elite and talented motorcycle company capable of competing in any niche they choose. At my advanced age, the bikes I ride are getting smaller in displacement and lighter, but if I were 20 years younger a Pan America would definitely reside in my garage.
They need a honda rebel, grom, and dr650 klr 650 competitor.. the dr and klr have like 30 years in the game its tough competition esspecially since theyre imports and at competitive pricing. Look at the vulcan vaquero price compared to the street glide
This bike has more problems than the DNC. Harley as always dropped the ball on fixing the electrical issues in a timely fashion. With the auto lowering failure it should have been a serious issue. As always the Harley guys that wanted an ADV bike bought one and out found that Harley does not fix things in a timely fashion. The value of this bike has dropped like a stone down a well. Shouda coulda wouda HD
I've been riding (as an owner) since '82 myself, but never had the money to go HD. Bought a 1980 Honda in '82 for $600 (with brand new tires) so I get what you're saying. Still have my YZF 1000, and now a 2020 Indian Scout Bobber. I'm 64, and have never owned a brand new motorcycle. And I've been a motorcycle mechanic for 38 years!
@@gregwillis7767 LOL! I've owned somewhere north of 40 motorcycles, and only one was new - a 1974 Honda XL100. Unlike cars, THOUSANDS of people buy motorcycles every year and then never ride them. A year or two later they can be bought in mint condition with very few miles for a fraction of what they would cost new. 3,000 miles seems to be the sweet spot where I tend to find the best buys, but I have bought used bikes with as little as 200 miles on the clock.
I've just brought a Pan Am, feeling very happy. I've had a Lowrider since 1989, I'm keeping it, and the Pan Am is so different. I didn't like the orange/white and blue/white versions, I thought they looked horrible, then I saw the olive green, with the Army star on the tank, and I wanted one of these straight away.
I think the Pan American is pretty cool. I have a 2012 V-Strom 650 which I bought new in 2013. It now has more than 100,000 miles on it. It’s been a great bike for me and I think it will last for many more miles. Sean, when I’m finally ready to retire it maybe you can add it to your 100k bike collection.
I own one and love it. And its not my first ADV bike. Ive owned several BMWs and KTMs. You can drop a big chunk of that extra 11 lbs with a TBR slip-on. That mailbox of a mid muffler is pretty hefty. Swap out the footpegs with some real ones in billet aluminum from Altrider, too.
I just wanted to tell you thank you. I'm a 57-year-old man. Hasn't ridden in about 10 years. The last bike I built it was a 1979 shovel with a reptec 5 into 4 transmission. I've had a Buell lightning which was a blast lol. I'm injured right now about to have back surgery but when I heal this is the bike that I want to get. So thank you for the review. It was one of the best reviews told exactly how and what you wanted to hear in a short period of time and was very enjoyable to watch. I look forward to more of your videos. Thank you again
I think you forgot about few other competitors like KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the Triumph Tiger 1200 and the Ducati Multistrada. I think Harley is somewhat behind all of those, but it has a little something that I really like 👍 Thanks for your videos !
@@samiam4240 Ducati prices themselves out of these videos. You can't compare a $27,000 bike and a $17,000 bike. Even if they look/act similar, they are made with entirely different people in mind.
I rode one for one of Harley’s trial day events, and i absolutely loved everything about it, except for the sound. Sounds a little bit like a lawn mower, but I’d absolutely own one if i could
I took an adventure rider course with HD last fall. Good fun! There were 4 PAs and a few other bikes. Pretty impressed with the HD, but I traded my 1200 GS in for a Norden 901. It’s about 80 lbs lighter than those bikes. Big difference in the dirt.
your missing out.. i not a stay at home dad though.. i work but i got my first bike at age 31 and havent looked back im going on 34 and motorcycles are so freakin fun wife and i take alot of trips in summer and so so much fun
@@pyrolysis2129 This. I am turning 40 shortly and have been wanting a motorcycle since my teen years. Unfortunately, due to location and very large animals and rough roads, I never got one. Now, however, I am in a new state that has so many people riding motorcycles that I actually want one. I am leaning on something smaller for easy riding back and forth to work and exploring country / back roads on the weekends. 300L would be a great bike for this in my opinion. No need to go fast, but of course, I think a Tenere 700 would be nice, just a bit rich for my wallet as this is a desire / want and not a need.
Started riding last year at age 40! Got a GROM then a Victory Vegas...now looking at moving up to something like this Pan America or s Sport Touring type thing! It's good for mental health to get out and ride!
@@maxbrown3235 Financing a $25,000 toy is how you stay broke. There's so many other more sensible options in category. Why would you even want 150HP in an adventure bike? I don't get it. I see so many used KLR 650s and BMW 1200GS for sale.
Thanks for the well informed information on this bike mate. Been riding bikes 41 years this year, and Harleys for 21 and this is one of the only bikes I'd think seriously about. Was talking to a mate who works in the dealership I live near in Northern Ireland, and this bike plus the electric trickery one he said were a total game changer for him, but the Pan wins hands down. I think they're priced well enough, and I've seen a few on the road, and everyone who owns one, loves them. As a chap said on here, the headlight is the 'stop and look' part. My only problem is, I'm in a club. Everyone rides the old style HD, even me with the mighty Dyna. There's gotta be a point that I or someone else goes 'Hey, I love that machine' and goes for it! Thank you for your great video. God bless you my friend, and thanks for the verse. Every time I go on a run, anywhere, I ask my Lord for safe travels...Vic
I have had my Pan America from launch and love it. It looks like you had a fault code before the 0-60 that put the bike into a sort of limp mode you should clear that thru the info screen and retest in sport mode or custom mode much more power and throttle response.
My Dad, during WW II, because he owned a Harley prior to the war breaking out, was put into the motorcycle courier service on a Harley with horizontally opposed engine, the XA. He liked the V-Twin better, and apparently most did as that became the standard. PS: He was later drafted into the Army Air Corp, finishing the war as a Captain flying P-51's. He retired as a Lt. Col.
Great looking bike , i have its competitor the 2022 Kawasaki Versys 1043 cc. 4 cyl. its a monster [ sleeper ] Power dog , I am always amazed at it when i ride it ...
ha "depending on how many times you've seen it" you either find the bike ugly or you're falling in love with it is so true. I initially didn't like the design of the bike, i hated the weird blocky headlight, the windscreen, the way the tank and exhaust and rear fender looked and i thought it was overpriced, too heavy and that it simply paled in comparison to other bikes in this class. But i learned long ago after some research that this bike is super capable and goes toe to toe with the best from other manufacturers. I've come to love the design of it, the headlight is a distinguishing feature that complements the bike well, the lines are elegant and simple, and overall it's a super solid bike for the price. that engine is magnificent and I'm hoping the reliability of it holds up in the long up. Harley really knocked it out of the park with this one.
I am not a harley guy, but I have had this bike for a couple of years, and I love it. I'm doing a bike solo ride later this year around Spain and Portugal... so looking forward to it.
@@theoryvue How is that? Totally different bikes, different riding style, etc. If you ride an adv. bike there's nothing that will sway you toward a bagger.
I LOVE Portugal and am going there for my 4th trip in only 4 years. Last year I rented a Honda NC700 in Cascais and rode up the coast (very similar to California), stopping by little family-owned bakeries for some Portuguese treats, yum. I want to rent another bike this time again.
The KTM 1190 Adventure R has the same power and similar weight, but Harley may have gotten me to trade mine in because of that adaptive ride height and those hydraulic lifters.
Great video. Enjoy seeing another actual owner perspective. Had a ‘22 PAS. No real issues with it. Suspension is awesome, rides better than any of the touring Harleys I’ve had. Only “misses” for me: questionable jiffy stand, excessive exhaust heat on the right foot peg(even w/9 in. leather boots) and availability of the side cases and other accessories. Ride one and you will be impressed!
I've been impatiently waiting for you to do this video! I am impressed! I absolutely love the Pan America! I feel at 57 yrs old if I could ever afford one, I would never need another bike in my lifetime. That's a HUGE stretch though as I am disabled without an income. I know all things are possible through Christ but it sure seems like a pipe dream at the moment. Glad to see you got yours and how much fun you are having riding it! The 0-60mph is incredible and the pull seems limitless! Thank you so much for the video! Watching you put it through the paces brings me some serious joy and I'm definitely celebrating with you and your adventures! I look forward to your offroad testing. Should be a blast! Much love to you and yours! Fantastic video brother!
I just bought one, and its incredible! The adaptive ride height is an option over the base price on the Specials too, but its a must for people like me who can't see eye-to-eye with Sean. Literally not figuratively.
I hope they get this bike dialed in. I had a 2021. It was a fun bike, but it blew the engine at 5000 miles, and after the engine was replaced, it was plagued with burning up the wiring harness for the suspension. The worst part about the suspension issues is the fact that every time it melted the wires, they had to replace the lower fork leg.
Geez... Did they tell you what happened to the motor? I'm a Harley traditionalist but I don't mind progress and i was happy when they made this and the sportster s. I wanted a sportster s but i heard of two separate incidents about the new motor blowing up at low mileage. I hope they sort this thing out.
Thankfully my 22 and my neighbors 22 have been trouble free. I've got almost 18k on mine while he is past the 26k mark. There's always a danger of bugs in a first year run particularly when is an entirely new machine. So glad they worked out the bugs.....it's by far the most fun bike I've owned.
Had mine here in Australia for 18 months now- no problems, great handling, brakes and power. I do mostly touring and hasn't let me dowm once- btw sold a Tiger 1200 to get this- the pan has more power and better handling (imo)
I feel like I've watched dozens of videos on the new Pan America I have to say you'review has been the best I have watched. you are living the dream of mine I have wanted one of these bikes ever since they 1st came out I've been riding since I was 10 and I have ridden all kinds of bikes Unfortunately financially this will be a bike I never will be able to own but I can still appreciate that Harley finally came out with an adventure bike Kudos to Harley Maybe someday when the price comes down I will be able to own one and cross country ride it that is my dream Thanks for the great review and your honest opinion And keep up the good work with the great content love watching your videos
1st let me say how much I enjoy your videos. Love the content and cant wait to see more. Now for the bike. I love the fact that Harley came out with this bike. It is one of my favorite bikes and hope that one day I can own one. Truly an amazing machine, but honestly the only bike that Harley makes that I never really liked is the V-Rod. But that's just my 2 cents. Harley really did some amazing things with this machine. I believe that if people actually rode this this they would agree. Again thanks for the videos and as always, "Enjoy the Ride" Reply
Adventure bikes of all kinds are literally everywhere in Italy I just seen the pan America in person for the first time over there. Now that I'm back home I'm obsessed with the idea buying one
I was sitting on that same bike the day before you bought it from my dealer. That was a great price for that bike! If only I could have convinced my wife to give me the green light!
Been Harley all my life. I think this bike is 100% practical! On the Detroit area I could cut across Blvd center medians, cut corners through gas stations, up & down curbs and across front lawns! Want one tomorrow.
I think it's a pretty good looking bike. Some interesting features too, especially that suspension that lowers at a stop. Can't wait for an off road review from you!
I'm 27 and just took an MSF course and got the Pan America as my first motorcycle. Always disliked Harleys as I felt that they targeted the people that are now 45+ YO when it comes to design, but the Pan-Am is in it's own segment, nothing traditional to all other HD's line up. At first it felt terrifying, but within 100 miles it felt "Mine". It's been 4 months and 2700 miles commuting around the Houston area and I absolutely love it. Besides my legs set to broil when sitting in traffic or at a light in this 110+ heat index weather. One warranty service bulletin that I had an issue with which took 2 weeks (9 business days waiting for a hose clamp and O-ring). I look forward to riding anytime I get a chance. I can't wait to start hitting mountainous regions and offroad trails... As Texas is mostly flat, but you have to be a pro as the drivers here... are a different kind of breed. I got my wife to also take the MSF Course and got her a 2022 Kawasaki Vulcan S and it's completely different. Almost like going from a Ford Raptor (Pan-Am) to driving a Ford Mustang (Vulcan S).
H-D sales guy thought I was going to get a "great deal" for $36k. "Ya know, that includes the cases". Of course the same dealer had 10 year old glides with 50,000 miles for $25k. As old and tired as the Tenere' is, pick one up for under $10k and never have to deal with H-D salesperson or service department ever again.
I love Harley and love ADV bikes so when I first saw this bike, I was so excited especially with the industrial almost cyberpunk looks had me in love, for a first effort in a highly competitive market it’s an amazing foundation
Never seen it but it nothing else ever made any sense its all of the good parts and its obvious with like -5% at most on other things in comparison + things theyrs just clearly better at... its a no brainer
The problem with all the tech on this as well as a lot of other modern bikes is it’s just a hell of a lot more stuff to go wrong as well as adding to the cost. You could have 5 Royal Enfield Himalayan’s for one of these and they are great, simple adventure bikes that have taken people on huge journeys over terrible terrain, admittedly at a much slower pace but speed isn’t everything and the upcoming 450cc water cooled Himalayan will double the power and make crushing at higher speeds more pleasurable.
As I stated on previous post of other reviewers; I personally consider the Pan America in its current form to be more a Sport Tourer than an Adventurer, Ground clearance limations for such a heavy bike will certainly limit your offroard riding to just gravel or dirt roads. I am bewildered at thier choice to place the rectifier and battery in thier current locations, also simple air filter changing looks pretty involved. The maintenance free Valve adjustment looks appealing and is a great idea but is offset by the yet to be discovered longevity of the high compression engine (13:1 compression ratio).
Thanks. I'm doopid of them ratios. 'n here I am wishing I still had my '74 Z1 Kaw I took into quite a few (nobody ever been) mild off roading areas/cross town short cuts out back of cemetery...never waiting in line exiting an outdoor concert/pignic, I took the dry ditch. Z1 was a fun bike same as a CB 350 Honda, kinda. blah blah.
@@grayghost1423 Lol! watch this attempt to drive up a moderate single track! He quickly regretted attempting and bike went into limp mode. Nearly 600lbs stuck on trail. Why do they ship with street tires? Case in point, my 2001 Triumph 900 Thunderbird is equally as capable for "off-roading" ruclips.net/user/shortsnjaz9mnV0Pw?feature=share
I traded my 2009 Buell Ulysses for my 2021 Pan America. I have been riding on the street for 35 years and have owned bikes from HD and Buell, Honda, Yamaha, and Kawasaki, the Ulysses is my all time favorite bike but the Pan America is a close second. It is a great long distance touring bike.
Great to hear NB, l had wondered how close to a Buell it would be. No doubt the comfort and suspension are pretty good and 150hp is pretty good. 👌 Njoy
I owned a 2021 and put 10,000 miles on it with a ton of code issues. Traded for a 2022 with zero issues. The 21 had a Starter Clutch Gear Issue that is fixed on the later 22 models. I have 12,000 on my 22 and absolutely love it!!!
Hey Shaun, enjoy watching your videos on different motorcycles but also your verses. I recently became chaplain of our Faithriders chapter and used your saying not what you are riding but where you are going- just as Jesus was riding on a donkey , but he knew where he was going. Thank you for your videos
Thanks for the review Sean. It looks like an awesome machine. Realistically, how many of the modes will get used? I'll be interested in your further reviews on this bike.
I have had mine for almost a year. For the first 8 months or so, I switched between street and sport on a regular basis. Eventually I took some time to figure out the custom power modes and now I stay in custom full power, sportiest suspension settings with all traction control & ABS at the minimum. It transforms the bike much more than the regular sport mode and lowers it at least an inch or two. Basically reminds me of my old R1 now that I have the Fuel Moto 12” carbon muffler, except you’re sitting upright.
Definately the best Harley I have ridden (Street Glide, Ultra Classic, 1,200(?) Sportster, some custom thing, and the PanAm). I did not like the slow speed handling charataristics. Maybe it was just the one I was on, but I could feel the steering stablizer fighting me. For the price, I would buy something else. Background: current bikes - 2017 Tiger 800, 2009 XR650L. Past bikes: 2011 Bonniville, 2003 Sprint ST. Also spent time on - 2017(?) R1200GS, 2017 F4 RR, 2010 CBR600RR, 2018 Scout, 2013 Thunderbird, 2022 Speed Triple RS, 2022 Trident. (I may be missing one or two in there somewhere)
I owned a Pan America for some time. I think you covered many of the positives pretty well but you hit none of the negatives. I traded mine in because they cost so much fully decked out but lack the refinement you SHOULD get for the cost. The jiffy stand causes major issues with the adaptive ride height. Also it’s mounted very poorly on the bike and in a horrible location. The Infotainment system almost NEVER works, and I don’t mean appropriately, I mean it just doesn’t work. It’s battery is to small and is a very simple fix for the factory (as it is a known issue) but they continue to install The smaller battery to pad the profit margin. This causes a host of code issues and starting problems. Additionally, the thing throws codes like crazy. What’s more, the service department’s at the dealerships don’t have enough qualified technicians (a special course they must have) to services the bikes in a timely fashion. There are a host of other problems as well. That having been said… the engine is like nothing I’ve ever ridden. It wheelies so easily, it can power slide in the corners, it’s balance point is unmatched in the large ADV bike segment, and as far as off-road goes, I went everywhere all the smaller bikes could go. Bottom line, if you don’t mind spending a ton of money and not getting all that your paying for and just want a fast and capable ADV bike, you can’t go wrong with the Pan Am.
Wheels. I remember when cast wheels were first coming out and I REALLY wanted a bike with them. Now that cast wheels are the norm, guess what... Yeah. Especially now that I can get spoked wheels that run tubeless tires. Present bikes are a '13 Tiger Explorer and a '20 Guzzi V85TT. And I've got a 28" leg. On a good day. 😁
I test rode one, and it is fantastic. Have your wingman shut their engine off for your ride-by's.🤙 Two cool features I learned; The tilting dash, and the keyless entry via code. Both great ideas. Harley put a lot of thought into this motorcycle.
I bought my DirtGlide a month ago! It’s absolutely the most enjoyable motorcycle I’ve owned! Yeah it has its software issues here and there, Harley always has a solution! I already have 2,500 miles and 2,500 smiles since ownership🇺🇸🇺🇸
I dubbed mine the DirtGlide the day I bought it back in March and took to my pin striper and had him paint Paint DirtGlide on both sides of front fairing.
I saw my first PanAm last December at Wild West Honda in Katy, Texas. Nice bike, but I also noticed that Harley even integrated the customary oil leak into it's newest model as well. Not even kidding! Nice little oil puddle under the motor about 2" in diameter.
As soon as they get a shaft drive version, I'll buy one. Until then, shaft drive is simply superior. It looks great, but I just don't care for belt drive or chain drive for daily riding.
Thx for the vid, you're a little late to the party BUT I like the energy of your presentation. I threw caution to the wind and bought my PAS in 2021, and despite some minor problems and one biggie, namely needing a new engine I really love this bike. H-D really did hit the ball out of the park with this build, and I recommend anyone looking to move from a conventional touring/cruiser bike to an ADV then go test ride the Pan America Special... enough said right?
@@sciencemilitia1853 Oil light came on at idle and low revs, scoring on the oil pump walls was discovered, and small filings, the dealer took advice from the factory throughout. The factory recommended a new engine rather than performing root cause analysis to find where the filings had come from. During the breakdown, the dealer also discovered a missing part, a manifold was mentioned in the notes which I seem to have mislaid so I cannot provide exact information on that last item. I bought the bike from a different dealer from my local one that performed this work. I have to say that so far all warranty claims have been dealt with quickly as soon as parts have arrived, the engine came in from the factory after about 2 weeks. I’ve since had to have the starter solenoid replaced also. In the back of my head, I keep wishing the fuel pump would go out before my warranty expires. Given that this is a 2021 model, it’s of no great surprise that there have been issues, but as I’ve mentioned, all warranty claims have been addressed in a timely manner. There have been a few other very minor things, some of which were resolved with software patches. Despite all of this I’ve got over 10K on the clock and have been very happy generally. Despite having done a few weekend rides out with no issues, I am a little hesitant to plan a multi-week road trip and I am debating if I want to trade it in for a current version, or even go to an alternative manufacturer, but I’m encouraged by the service I got, and I quest what else can go wrong 😊 Sorry for the long explanation.
Way too late. They're playing catch up because they know they're sinking. The ADV bikes that have been around aren't going anywhere. They've established themselves. Can't say the same for Harley.
Hi my name is Travis and I've been fascinated with trikes for years I was wondering if you could do a video on building a trike or a review on an inexpensive one and one that is real expensive? Love the show God bless brother keep spreading the gospel!
The Harley trikes have steering dampers from the factory. I used one on my SG when i built the engine. 120+ made it move around a lot and the factory trike steering dampers helped tame that down.
I think this was THE smartest move Harley has made in over 50 years. This is what riders want in 2023 according to Philly bike culture which influences the rest of the world and dirt bikes are in, so this enduro pleases everyone. It's legal, and defiant. I'm a re-entry rider after over 20 years and I'd LOVE to have the Rider School INCLUDED with the purchase of the bike, Sean.
Great video. It answered a lot of questions I had about this bike. I didn't realize how (relatively) affordable it is. I assumed this was a mid-$20s bike.
Don't Forget that Buell had the Liuid cooled 4 valve heads .. over head Cam 1125 CC and 1190 CC Halicon engine. I see many Similarities between the Pan American and the Buell Ulysess ect..
In the UK, Harley Davidson offers an adventure day on road/off road experience. The bike, gear to wear and led by a Dakar rider and lunch. Costs about £350..but if your thinking of getting a Pan America..so worth it. (I have a Sport Glide btw)
I took one for a test ride a while back, I jumped into second gear and the front wheel came off the ground. It has the power and technology that I like.
Harleys had steering dampers for years, knuckles, pans, shovelhead, especially when hauling a sidecar, They also had adjustable triple trees to increase/decrease the rake .
There are times when locking up the back brake for a moment is an advantage to redirect your momentum and trajectory! It is something you only learn from years of balance riding on two wheels
Don't forget that in the 1970's, Harley Davidson made Dirt Bikes of various CC's, for production and distribution/sales to the general public. I had one.
I used to hate your words of wisdom they never appealed to me and I always would skip past them but the last few weeks I have genuinely found myself finding a lot of meaning in them and it has made me seriously find faith

totally agree with you and its flipping light. i own a GSA and i rode the Pan America 3 weeks back and its by far lighter.

Flicking it between the trees? Really? There’s a million better bikes for flicking between the trees.
No desire what so ever to own these heavy azz bikes.

Use the Lemon law, the same as you use on cars !
It's not unique. There are plenty of other options and Harley was late to the adventure bike game.
The classics:
BMW GS(A)
Honda Africa Twin
Yamaha Super Ténéré
Triumph Tiger
KTM Super Adventure S
Sport mode=20 years younger. Try one if you get the chance.
Yeah I thought it was rude that he didn’t put the V-Strom on the scales.
I have a 2014 VStrom 1000. The Stroms are great cheap bikes
How’s that bike on the highway?
@@jDot2414 I think it’s excellent on the highway.
@@jDot2414 I thought the 650 was a little sluggish but overall cant really complain about my experience with the 650
I own one and love it.
Thank you...glossing over the Trumpet and the Duc was a little sus...just sayin'.
@@samiam4240 Ducati prices themselves out of these videos. You can't compare a $27,000 bike and a $17,000 bike. Even if they look/act similar, they are made with entirely different people in mind.
I am thinking you never actually rode one to do a comparision
I doubt that very much.
@@stevieraysmith BS. You can't handle comparing the Harley to a $27,000 Duc, but you're totally onboard to comparing it to a $23,000 BMW?
I rode one for one of Harley’s trial day events, and i absolutely loved everything about it, except for the sound. Sounds a little bit like a lawn mower, but I’d absolutely own one if i could
I took an adventure rider course with HD last fall. Good fun! There were 4 PAs and a few other bikes. Pretty impressed with the HD, but I traded my 1200 GS in for a Norden 901. It’s about 80 lbs lighter than those bikes. Big difference in the dirt.
I’m almost 36 years old and as a stay at home Dad it looks very doubtful that I will ever get a motorcycle.
I live vicariously through your videos.
It's worth trying. I started riding at 37 and have never looked back. Buy a small light bike to learn on and take a riding class. You won't regret it.
your missing out.. i not a stay at home dad though.. i work but i got my first bike at age 31 and havent looked back im going on 34 and motorcycles are so freakin fun wife and i take alot of trips in summer and so so much fun
@BiscuitPuncher I did a short test ride on a Tenere 700. Great bike.
Started riding last year at age 40! Got a GROM then a Victory Vegas...now looking at moving up to something like this Pan America or s Sport Touring type thing! It's good for mental health to get out and ride!
I’m glad you decided to post a video to this channel. Bikes and beards isn’t enough.
The two at my local dealership are priced around $25,000. Much more than I can afford. I will have to just admire them from a distance.
They finance, don’t be a brokie

Col.
Bad Ass Dad!
Likely nothing I’ll ever own, but I find it cool that they gave us their take on a V-Twin adventure bike. Looks like they did a good job.
Great looking bike , i have its competitor the 2022 Kawasaki Versys 1043 cc. 4 cyl. its a monster [ sleeper ] Power dog , I am always amazed at it when i ride it ...
Bought mine last fall. Most fun Harley I have ever ridden, just flat out fun. They definitely need an adventure bike riding class.
I’ve been watching you since 2018 and as a fellow believer I thank you for your words of wisdom as well as the excellent content
Really? Suzuki VStrom….. you know the V-twin adventure bike that’s been around for 20 years, probably worth comparing.
ha "depending on how many times you've seen it" you either find the bike ugly or you're falling in love with it is so true.
Ugly is ugly
I am not a harley guy, but I have had this bike for a couple of years, and I love it. I'm doing a bike solo ride later this year around Spain and Portugal... so looking forward to it.
Will you be posting a video on the ride?
I’m Portuguese! Hope to see u around
This is my favorite thing on two wheels. It's proof Harley can do whatever they want when they put their mind to it.
The KTM 1190 Adventure R has the same power and similar weight, but Harley may have gotten me to trade mine in because of that adaptive ride height and those hydraulic lifters.
Glad this is a bike you are breaking SRK's hiatus on. The Pan America is the first true HD I have ever, in my life, had any interest in owning.
Love your work. Great video. A small note. When comparing it to other ADVs, you should add the Triumph Tiger 1200
I owned a Tiger 1050 and it was an amazing bike. Triumph is a good alternative to the R1250GS.
If we ever take one in, I will definitely take it for a rip
I recently sold my 2013 tiger 800xc, it had 110,329 miles on it when the new owner took possession. Never had more than routine maintenance.
Never find a dealer if you ever require service while on a road trip! That is one huge advantage with running a Harley....dealers are everywhere!
Wait you said "HAD" did you get rid of it and why?
Why they made it? Cause of the Million Dollar Bogan.
That poor road king went through hell and back 😂😂😂
shout out to MDB!! love that guy! road king on bolivia death rode absolutely epic.
Anybody that takes a CVO off-road doesn’t need an “adventure bike”. He already owns one.
mdb already did a off road review on this...he still rides marine 1...fair to say the review didnt go well
So they made it because of him... but before he did that.
Buying parts for my FXR (first Harley, still haven’t ridden it) this green one caught my eye. I’m already obsessed.
Read the forums and consumer reports, the Pan America is a dumpster fire. The reliability is terrible.
I just bought one, and its incredible! The adaptive ride height is an option over the base price on the Specials too, but its a must for people like me who can't see eye-to-eye with Sean. Literally not figuratively.
I traded mine in today. For a Fat Bob 114.
Did they warranty all 😊that work?
Had mine here in Australia for 18 months now- no problems, great handling, brakes and power. I do mostly touring and hasn't let me dowm once- btw sold a Tiger 1200 to get this- the pan has more power and better handling (imo)
Good to see H-D trying new things. Hopefully they can stay around.
Harley Davidson ain't goin' anywhere. They're here to stay.
Again thanks for the videos and as always, "Enjoy the Ride"

I have 3 bikes in my garage. One is a 2022 PA Special. No wife very happy life
Sorry about your wife.
Trade in your wife for the bike.
I would suggest you be a man and grow a set.
Been Harley all my life. I think this bike is 100% practical! On the Detroit area I could cut across Blvd center medians, cut corners through gas stations, up & down curbs and across front lawns! Want one tomorrow.
As a ADV it is a joke.
I do the same in my car when in Detroit to get out
I think it's a pretty good looking bike. Some interesting features too, especially that suspension that lowers at a stop.
Can't wait for an off road review from you!
Thank you! really enjoy these real world unbiased reviews!
I own the Special. I could say things. It is in the shop again. I wouldn't buy a second one. Take that for what it's worth.
😂
I love Harley and love ADV bikes so when I first saw this bike, I was so excited especially with the industrial almost cyberpunk looks had me in love, for a first effort in a highly competitive market it’s an amazing foundation
I would say that the “Long Way…” series with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have influenced the Adventure bike popularity.
Z1 was a fun bike same as a CB 350 Honda, kinda.
blah blah.

👌 Njoy
I have Pan America taste on a Himalayan budget.
I owned a 2021 and put 10,000 miles on it with a ton of code issues. Traded for a 2022 with zero issues. The 21 had a Starter Clutch Gear Issue that is fixed on the later 22 models. I have 12,000 on my 22 and absolutely love it!!!

I had a 1000 vstrom. Surprisingly was one of the quickest bikes I’ve owned.
Love how you still read us a bible verse before riding 🙏
Thanks for the info on your experiences; the issues stated scare me away, along w/ the pricetag. Norden 901 here I go....
"If you don't mind spending a ton of money and not getting all that you're paying for" isn't that Harley-Davidson's standard operating procedure?
I think these are tremendously sharp looking. The beaks are kind of silly imo, I like that HD kept things more simplistic in the front.
Silly till that fender is caked with debris. The front looks to much like a road glide that ran into a wall.
I bought a 2024 yesterday. Rode it home from dealer. Took it out today to the Hawks Nest on the Delaware. Awesome place and bike!
Nice bike but not worth the price you can get a Japanese bike for six or $7000 less and it would definitely be more reliable
The first Harley to actually interest me, to the point of gawping at it in the local HD dealership....great review
I test rode one, and it is fantastic. Have your wingman shut their engine off for your ride-by's.🤙 Two cool features I learned; The tilting dash, and the keyless entry via code. Both great ideas. Harley put a lot of thought into this motorcycle.
I was at dealer yesterday. They said those are very popular and they move alot of them...
they'll try to sell these for like 5 years then give up
Dude, you probably sold more of these things than any Harley marketing out there. Great Video, you're still the best!
The Dirt Glide.

“If it don’t vibrate ‘n leak oil, it ain’t a Harley!”™️
If it ain't leaking, it's broke 🙂
As soon as they get a shaft drive version, I'll buy one. Until then, shaft drive is simply superior. It looks great, but I just don't care for belt drive or chain drive for daily riding.
Man.. i really tried to like the pan america. I just can't. It's too ugly, too expensive, and just not practical for my needs.
Every bike is not going to be for everybody.
What happened to the engine?
Despite having done a few weekend rides out with no issues, I am a little hesitant to plan a multi-week road trip and I am debating if I want to trade it in for a current version, or even go to an alternative manufacturer, but I’m encouraged by the service I got, and I quest what else can go wrong 😊
Sorry for the long explanation.
Well, it's ugly. There are many Adventure Bikes out there Shawn and Harley is late to the game.

I went from Nova Scotia to Belize on my Pan America and am in Texas. I got a 21 Standard and have experienced a lot of "growing pains with mine".
Documented it all on my channel
Dude! You gave God praise in the middle of the video Sweet! May God bless you!
The Pan America is a VERY fast bike. Scary fast
Man, I can not say how much I am glade to see you again on the platform!
Don't Forget that Buell had the Liuid cooled 4 valve heads .. over head Cam 1125 CC and 1190 CC Halicon engine. I see many Similarities between the Pan American and the Buell Ulysess ect..
It was awesome meeting you yesterday at your office. Thanks for your advice regarding my 2018 Suzuki Boulevard C 50T.
In the UK, Harley Davidson offers an adventure day on road/off road experience. The bike, gear to wear and led by a Dakar rider and lunch. Costs about £350..but if your thinking of getting a Pan America..so worth it. (I have a Sport Glide btw)
Why is the Ducati Multistrada v4s not in this comparison?
I took one for a test ride a while back, I jumped into second gear and the front wheel came off the ground. It has the power and technology that I like.
I'm surprised you didn't list the Multistrada 1260 Enduro as a competitor.
The past 20 years of BMW beak bikes....finally done. I've hated the beaks since day 1.
@XTREME RACR I guess. I can't remember what came first, the GS or the Vstrom...both make me want to barf.
This REALLY makes me want to have this as my next bike.
Harleys had steering dampers for years, knuckles, pans, shovelhead, especially when hauling a sidecar, They also had adjustable triple trees to increase/decrease the rake .
Great review and nice bike. Also, thank you for giving a very clear explanation about why turning off ABS is beneficial when riding off-road.
There are times when locking up the back brake for a moment is an advantage to redirect your momentum and trajectory! It is something you only learn from years of balance riding on two wheels
Nice, that helps alot to know more about the bike. Thinking about getting one.
Would you recommend this bike for someone who has never ridden one?
Also, if a rider wants one right now, you can pick up dealer demos at about 30% off retail price in Australia. Seen a few at $21990.
Don't forget that in the 1970's, Harley Davidson made Dirt Bikes of various CC's, for production and distribution/sales to the general public. I had one.
My 2016 Dark Horse has a proximity fob. If you loose it, you punch in a code via the turn signal switch. 🤷🏼♂️
