I’ve had zero problems with my Pan Am! 2022 and it’s been legit!
While riding my DONKEY in Ocala Forest .I found a Pan American rider with bike laid down in sand. Rider had been there 30 minutes trying to pick his new Pan up. It took both of us to uprite his overweight beast before he went straight back to the pavement.

I’m an old dog, my first new H-D was a ‘73 CH. I picked up my first H-D touring machine, a ‘71 FLH in ‘75 and I’ve had one of their touring machines ever since.
I picked up a ‘21 Pan America 1250S last year and I’ve managed to roll 3,700 miles with it since last year; I’m having a phukking blast with this machine.
I am/was 6.0 tall and am running the tall seat in the top position in order to pull some bend from my knees. I run the 3” taller wind screen; I know, it’s hard to look cool with a tall windshield, but on this bike no one cares. I run the shield in the high forward position.
I can tell you that without question, for me, with this setup the cockpit environment on this machine is better than anything else that H-D makes...period! FWIW I also run a ‘21 Road Glide.
The Pan America ships with the street tires and due to the lower speed rating of the knobby tires, it requires a reflash which governs the max speed within the limits of the knobby tires.
I’m also running H-D’s 2” taller risers, with a handlebar position that allows me to stand while keeping the grips in front of me. These risers were a great move for me.
I’m running the Screamin’ Eagle muffler and I’ve removed the diffuser in the end which wakes this pipe up a lot. It’s not stupid loud and achieves what I feel is something that most neighbors can live with.
The Pan America is roughly 330 pounds lighter than my Glide, which allows the tires, brakes and suspension to work much better; it’s like this machine is on rails...the yippie ki-yay factor is off the charts!
I couldn't disagree more with the statement that it's not a great street only platform. I bought the base model PA because I don't need all the extra more dirt focused features of the Special as I use as just as a street bike, and it is excellent as a touring bike. I don't have any issues with the height of the windshield (I'm 6'2") although it is a bit flimsy, it's functional but not great. The bars also are almost perfect for me with my orangutan arms. I haven't experienced the heat issues that many complain about, not sure why - perhaps I have my foot at a different angle/position that allows more airflow? My only real complaint is the seat, I find it is too soft and doesn't offer enough support for my thighs/quads on longer rides. I'm likely going to replace it with a Corbin. I could use a little more leg room, if I were to buy it over again I would get the Special with Automatic Ride Height lowering and then put on the tallboy seat for the extra leg room. I love my Pan Am, definitely one of the top 2 or 3 bikes I have owned in my 35 years of street riding.

I collect my black 2022 PAS on 07/07/22. Ridden it off road on a test ride and bought it the following week. Still to ride it on road. Can’t wait to explore the off roads of Scotland.
I just hope Harley maintains the high level of build quality and preserves the profit from the bike by making great investment and business decisions.

Thx for the comprehensive review! I'm a long time Harley-Davidson Potato Rider and always laugh when Harley makes something that's "NOT A HARLEY". But I saw this Pan American today with military green, loved the look and apparent quality, and thought hmm?, "I've always wanted an adventure bike but love Harley's too much to switch to European or Japanese models that go against my grain, and wouldn't it be great if this actually performed as well as it looks?" I had my doubts because this is definitely not what I'd define as Harley's wheelhouse and figured it's a wannabe try hard for the new generation of riders and will flop like everything else in left lane Harley has tried. Your review along with RevZilla's has opened my eyes to an opportunity to have an adventure bike and know the money I'd spend would be well worth it, considering I ride bikes like you do, simply for the joy and giggle factor of experiencing performance and quality combined. Thx again!

Finally something about the excessive heat. Not to mention the header pipe right next to your foot, and when the fan kicks on it blows the heat on your left leg. As far as adventure bikes being hot, my 02 Triumph Tiger is cool as a cucumber on the hottest of days.

@@keithulhul7540 I've seen people wrapping the pipes with heat tape and putting heat shield material between the pipe and the actual heat shield to keep the heat from burning their boots off.

I’ve worn tennis shoes on my Pan Am and don’t have any issues. These are the same idiots who ride a bmw gs. You wanna feel heat? Ride it. Them cylinders cooked my shins.
Nothing wrong with the bars. MPG is way better than 30. I regularly get 40+.
As a Sportster S owner, I am hanging for a 1252 Sport Glide. I love my bike and I really don't see the flagships Road Glide or Street Glide being anything but air cooled for a while. But a Sport Glide, the bike they can't sell, yah, that one will bring in new riders. I think the Nightster was a miss on price and market appeal, what people love on the air cooled Sportster they will not find in the Nightster and a new buyer will look at the features and choose the Honda Rebel. The Pan America is a hit, the Sportster S is a hit, both are price and performance competitive with the high end market and not far off the Top 4 for value.
I think they would've done better to release the Bronx instead of the Nightster, personally.
I just love the classical music back sound.... reminds me my mum who would play the piano as I slept when a child. Oh and the Pan America is awesome, however here in the UK it has had a difficult start, for two reasons, the traditional Harley riders don't like change, and for the first year the electrical issues with ghosting warning lights just put people off. I have a 97 Roadking with an S&S 107, but am hoping I can add a Pan America to my garage next year. Am subscribing I like your vids... great job.
Can you compare the Africa Twin Adventure Sports to the HD?
I rode a pan am off road for an hour and it absolutely rips. The handlebars and windscreen was perfect for a 6’0”-6’1” man. I probably won’t get one though I’m holding out for them to make a competitor to the triumph 1200 scrambler, I want the potato potato, no, I need it

Great review. I agree with it all, and love this bike. When I had my Ducati and it had those freaky issues, people would just say "that's a Ducati". I kinda feel the same way about this bike.
The PAS is my third Harley that I have personally owned and I have ridden countless others, this is the best, the very best HD to date, just an amazing bike. I only hope that the Motor company continues to support this bike, as it is a great bike and they should.
I say I enjoy it, it's a lovely bike but I also don't have anything to compare it to as it's the first big bike I've owned. I use it daily when I need to go places, haven't used my car since gas prices spiked lol
It may have many admirable features, but lovely it ain't.
I've been using my bike to commute as well. Only other vehicle I own is a pickup so I only use it when it rains or I need to haul something. 70 bucks to fill that thing up, vs 13 for my Ninja lol.
I got to ride the nightster at a demo day about 3 weeks ago and I have to say I’ve been really thinking about possibly trading in the old evo softail towards it, the thing felt amazing. For it up to 90 in 4th gear and it still wanted to go, at 90 the evo is screaming for dear life and so are my legs trying to keep them on the floorboards. But I also got to ride a road king special the heritage classic and a street bob and I have to say I liked them all equally but they are all more expensive than the nightster. I was seriously thinking about get a cb650r but after that demo day realizing how amazing the new bikes feel and how much more nimble they feel I think I’m sticking with HD for now

I just bought the Harley Davidson Pan America this week for my first streetbike. I love it.
I plan in using it for a commuter, road cruser, and adrenaline boosting. I love my DirtGlide and I'm gonna ride the fire out of it and learn it inside and out.
I'm going tomorrow 08-26-22 to the Harley Davidson dealership and see what kind of motorcycle I want to get. I've made an appointment. I'll ask about the Pan America 1250 Special 🏍

Good idea. However, to be clear the HDPA is not a Dual Sport, it’s an ADV. There’s quite a difference. Dual Sports are DRZs, KLRs etc. ADV bikes BMW 1250gs, Tiger 900s etc.

I think a 975 would really open Harley up to new riders. As an adv bike rider I just can't afford a "flagship" bike from any of the brands.

I dig this thing, but that face... only a mother could love that. I'm looking at a bike in this vein, but for the price I don't think I can live with those looks. That being said... I love what it represents. Anxious to see where they go with this motor and platform.
i,ve been torn about buying this bike and its the only one in there range that suits my needs after back surgery. the cruisers are to heavy for me now but the elcetrical issues it's had puts me off.

Be careful with Bark Busters. I ordered some that were supposed to fit my ADV (1260 Enduro), but it limited mobility of the handlebars and didn't seem stable enough to hold up to a tip-over, as in they'd just move up and not save the handlebars at all. I ended up taking them off and putting on what were essentially handlebar slides/hand guard protectors.
Buddy I mean you no offense when I say this but the point of a bark buster is not to save the handlebar at all

Wow I think that's great gas mileage. I'm only getting like 140 out of a 4.5 gallon tank. Kawasaki claims it gets 50 mpg but I'm getting more like 32.7

Hey guys! I just got a new CB300R yesterday. I wanted those warning stickers on the tank cover fine. Peeled them off and now have the residue left. I see people are saying WD40 to get it off. I’m worried it’ll leave a mark on the plastic.. I’m scared to try anything.. please, advice!!!

How can you say the bike is better with nabi tires when you haven't put on or rode with street tires? Put on some Michelin pilot 6 tire's and I'm off touring
One has to scratch his head as to why an adventure bike would have 150 horsepower. Sounds like this would be a great motorcycle with a smaller engine, in a lighter build. Did the higher ups only agree to this bike if it tested tech for future versions of their traditional lineup? That engine would make better sense in a bigger bike.

Well. As a Harley guy who also rides a 2020 Tiger 1200 I’ll say this. We all want this bike to be good, we want it so bad that I think we keep making it out to better than it actually is. If it was a Yamaha, KTM, Triumph or BMW we’d all probably call it a poor attempt at an adventure bike. But since it’s such a departure from what Harley has done lately we’ve cut it way too much slack. The damn thing won’t turn over half the time and that isn’t f-n OK. It’s a $20,000 dollar plus motorcycle! No quick shifter it gets around 30 mpg. It ain’t a dirt bike guys it’s an adventure bike. That’s alot of money for a very imperfect bike. I guess brand loyalty and hope for the future can make us happy. Hopeful for a better gen2.

Not likely to be answered, but I would like to know why so many of the issues you have found you consider "1st round teething problems", but you haven't used the same language for other first gen bikes. Do you have more confidence that HD will be making an effort to correct the issues than others like Triumph? If so, why?

Yes a scary possibility. Better to stick to 69. Maybe we'll see someone invent an 'endo-triggered barkbuster quick-disconnect' mounting system. This would allow the rider's arms to move freely into the gap between the fork legs while the bike is half way through doing an endo, thus taking the danger away from the barkbusters.
The answer is no, only because every long term test has a long list of things that break and or don’t work correctly, typical HD still living in the brand loyalty world not in the current value based world.

Papa Yam love your vids. Assuming you’re using premeire pro I have found that if you throw a 20 band eq on the audio track and take 11k and 8k almost completely out it removes the noise floor hiss without destroying the quality of the audio too bad. Great vid Spite
It might be a good bike and great and all this, but I just can't get over just how ugly it is. I know I am petty, but I want a motorcycle that looks good too.
Also not letting you change tires unless you take it to a dealership is greedy and disgusting by HD. Imagine buying a truck and being told you can't change the tires. No way I would ever spend any money on a product that does that.
Looks are subjective. Stating as a matter of fact (rather than opinion) that it’s ugly makes you look pretentious, not petty. The lack of a right to repair is a good point of criticism, though.

Luckily these bikes aren’t intended to look pretty. I do agree with buying a bike that has looks you like though.

Oliver Furuseth, maybe so. Personally, I’d rather not have to assume what someone else’s intentions are when (in this case) it’s just as easy to say, “I think it’s ugly.” The way you said it, “ugliness” is a property of the bike rather than your perception of the bike.

I wouldn’t say a tenere is better. Lighter and more simple? Yeah, but the full capability of the pan am is above the tenere assuming you have the skills
Nice to see harley make a modern competitive bike at a competitive price. But I've never liked the looks of adv bikes, they all just look like transformers.

Not gonna lie... Harley makes junk in my opinion, humbly. Every other motorcycle brand for the most part makes an adventure bike that competes with or beats this bike. Too little too late. This would be no where near my first pick for an adventure bike in any category
