You nailed the big adv purpose - 90/10, eats miles in comfort. Maybe even 95/5, and the 5 is just dirt roads. I would add that they are substitutes for sports bikes/sportscruisers/liter nakeds for those of us who want a comfortable riding position and wind protection while we hoon through life. Source: me and my Tiger 1200.
5-10% dirt tire is just road tires. And it is all about how good the rider is, not so much how good the bike is to go on a gravel road. I drive my 500cc scooter (about 600 pounds) on dirt/gravel roads on street scooter tires. Not any problems with that, as long as I don't do anything stupid. Stop blaming the bike, and train your self to be a better rider instead. Slow speed training is the clue to be better… Training every 1-3 days 5min do much more then 2-5 hours once a month. It is more that you blame the tires and the bike, for your own lack of skill. And also lots of training on hard breaking, on the strait, before, after and in corners. That can really save your life. But if you did not know. If you don't train on it, you are going to forget about it more and more.
Here in Asia we love our tiny-ass small displacement ADV because it's more 60/20/20, as in 60% asphalt, 20% potholes and 20% gravel. Heavy off road, probably not as good as true Dual Sports, but better than anything else.
@@Gismo3333 You are correct - a good rider can drive any motorcycle on regular dirt and gravel roads, with care. My 1200 XCa (Desert Edition) has spoke wheels, and big suspension travel and ground clearance. I chose it over the road biased option because I do a little more than gravel and dirt roads. Just a little though, and I probably could have gotten by, but when I test rode it, it felt great on the street too (17/19 tires). I can stick with stock tires (90/10), I can go 100% grip/street, or I can go more knobby. If you're saying us big ADV riders are fooling ourselves thinking we need or will use the off-raid chops of a big adv bike - I won't argue with you. Lot of posers out there, I'm half a poser myself. But the bottom line is I wanted: standard posture (no cruisers, no crotch rocketry), wind protection, all the gadgets/modes, POWER/speed, 2up, and provisions for soft bags or hard panniers. Also I'm 6'3" 190 lbs. It fits me and fits my requirements, perfectly. If I had a naked, I'd add a tail rack and a full windscreen (as I did to my first bike, a 1981 Honda CB650).
Yamm, remember this is also a new motor for HD. they are still tinkering with everything with the setup on that motor. So yes it does not feel quite right. I hope to see that fixed in a model year or 2.
Every complaint I hear from you sounds to me like a gamer not a rider. Nothing you said in this video against this bike held true for me. No it's not a KTM. It handled well, shifted fine and honestly was a dream.
I really think they need to come out with about a 450cc adventure bike for a entry level. I know of several people that made the mistake of buying Pan America as first bike. But if you go to their dealership for a adventure bike the salesman has only one option.

I raced professional motocross and flat track 60-70’s. I have tried riding dual sport bikes but I enjoy a separate street bike and separate dirt bike. I enjoy a 200’pound 2 stroke dirt bike. Light, not too heavy, no extra head inertia. and easy to work on as no valves, cam chains etc. I love the smell and on/off power of 2 strokes. Clutch is like a second throttle. Little easier than I touch ground with compact motor.

Curious…. Have you ridden any bikes over 600lbs? I can easily see some major bias against Harley and honestly it detracts from your review. You’re looking at the bike from a perspective that everything on the bike is subpar to dirt bikes, sport bikes, and Adventure bikes that have been around for a couple decades. As a Cruiser/bagger consumer, anything under 600lbs is nothing to manipulate. (Considering my first dirt bike was a YZ125 as a kid) My bikes range 730lbs to 1050lbs. Perspective wise, you keep mentioning how heavy the PA is. Have you ridden a heavy bike? I don’t mean a test ride from the Harley shop, I mean owned and really learned to maneuver it? Though I’ll agree it certainly is NOT a CR500, I don’t think it’s meant to be. Harleys target demographic isn’t necessarily long time ADV riders but new to the sport consumers as well as Cruiser/Bagger folk. New riders, and more height challenged riders have great interest in the PA because of adaptive ride height as well many other features that assist a newer rider keep control and build confidence. For myself personally, it appeals to me as a cruiser/bagger guy for its power to weight ratio as well as its ability to keep going when the pavement ends. A 1000lb bagger is not that great on old dirt roads. Thus it opens up a huge world that I haven’t been able to access. Perspective is a major consideration, and would round out your review so as to be less negative. Nothing positive to say speaks to the reviewer, not the bike.
I still believe this would be a good starting point for HD to make a sport tour. Cast 17/17, a more moderate ride height, and some integrated bags inspired by the touring bike luggage.
Idk if it’s just me but my 2024 pan am sifts perfectly and has zero throttle response issues. I’ve ridden sport bikes most of my life and the transmission feels smooth in my opinion
You do know that what you call dirt roads, was how the main roads look when the first bikes came to life? You don't have a clue what you are talking about. So lost.
Street mode is awful for any kind of performance with both the engine and suspension. I created a custom mode for the street with more of the throttle characteristics of Sport mode, and slightly stiffer suspension than Street mode, and it feels night and day more connected with good feedback.
Its that Drive By Wire system. When I rode it, that throttle just felt like a floating plastic tube that was electronically controlling the engine (because it is). Also, that kick stand is shitty. Almost shitty enough to make it not worth it. Still love the thing. If I had the space, I'd have one right now
Hey Papa Yams I noticed you do alot of bike give away, and am asking you, NO, begging you please send me a grom2017, i spent 1300 on a dirt bike when i went to get it twas a pitt bike, in parts! still havnt gotten money bck and tht was gonna be my first bike, also was told no money bck, so now no bike no cash.

I’m new to the channel. Just learned now that the tall dude with curly hair isn’t Yammie. 👀 5:50 my versys 650 would stall just like that at red lights. I thought I was retarded. My buddy who is a great tech said use regular instead of premium gas. No more issues after that… weird. 11:25 that’s a nice Toyota Tundra. Love it. What about warranties ? Folks get 150k miles on a Yamaha super tenere with no issues. Can this do that?
I now this is old, but if you do a custom map, oddly enough the "sport" mode isn't on the most direct throttle response setting. There is another more spicy setting for that, as well as engine braking settings.
Love the channel!!! But please dont use " im gonna kill myself" in jest. Too many people say it as a joke but are really dealing with something serious. I know you didnt mean anything by it
This feels very different from spite's review, maybe a bit more real and less biased. Great to have two different takes on the same bike. The fact that you still complain at the gearbox around the 9min marks tells me it's really not that great considering it's brand new

Perspective is a major consideration, and would round out your review so as to be less negative. Nothing positive to say speaks to the reviewer, not the bike.
I still believe this would be a good starting point for HD to make a sport tour. Cast 17/17, a more moderate ride height, and some integrated bags inspired by the touring bike luggage.
after the success of this bike i guarantee they put some more R and D into expanding this line
ill be damned, harley made a good bike
The H-D Pan America is growing on me. At first I didn't like it that much, but now after Spites road trip and your review I kinda like it a lot :)
Would I pay the price Harley is asking for it? No. Would I enjoy one? Probably.
Yam praising an HD? Hell hath certainly frozen over. Great job HD! Great vid as well Yam.
Idk if it’s just me but my 2024 pan am sifts perfectly and has zero throttle response issues. I’ve ridden sport bikes most of my life and the transmission feels smooth in my opinion
That looked pretty impressive.
Harely Davidson does have some pedigree for dirt track racing
You do know that what you call dirt roads, was how the main roads look when the first bikes came to life?
You don't have a clue what you are talking about. So lost.
@@Gismo3333 ooooo strike a nerve?
Well, right now Indian is stealing their lunch money in flat track.
Can confirm. My dad raced them professionally in the 70’s
Street mode is awful for any kind of performance with both the engine and suspension. I created a custom mode for the street with more of the throttle characteristics of Sport mode, and slightly stiffer suspension than Street mode, and it feels night and day more connected with good feedback.
Sooo basically... Harley made a less powerful, less refined, less capable KTM 1290 Adventure.
Its that Drive By Wire system. When I rode it, that throttle just felt like a floating plastic tube that was electronically controlling the engine (because it is). Also, that kick stand is shitty. Almost shitty enough to make it not worth it.
Still love the thing. If I had the space, I'd have one right now
I have a 09 KLR650 and recently added a 21 Pan Am and was seriously impressed with the performance off road.
Turn off the traction control. You'll find the missing ponies
He figured it out. Lol
No thanks over priced Harley pig dirt tracks in the forest in Australia would wreck that thing sticking with the T700 rally world
The styling definitely has a Massey Fergussen International Harvester vibe.
I'd totally do that as a custom paint scheme.
Yeah, with most Harleys that would be the motor that gives you that vibe...
Harley always made a good tractor 🚜
Agco and Case have done NOTHING to deserve such insults.
Yammie’s gonna ride a REAL BAHK!
The pan am owners know that if he road it on off-road plus with TC off he would think lot differently of this thing on the street.
Reminds me of the video of the guy riding his fjr through the woods.might as well.a 600 lb trail boss? uuuhhh NO!!
You are not wrong. Put it on a trailer and take it to dealership. They are junk and have been for decades.😂🤣 Over weight under powered out dated rattling oil sieve way over priced junk. Drop it and it cost thousands to fix. They spend more time in garage than on road.😂🤣
Used to watch your vids and enjoy them. May you be forgiven for taking my Lord's name in vain through blasphemy. I do not judge, but rather pray that you will see.
I’m new to the channel. Just learned now that the tall dude with curly hair isn’t Yammie. 👀
5:50 my versys 650 would stall just like that at red lights.
My XR-1200 is definitely not a "cruise down the highway" kind of bike, but it isn't a Ducati either.
You cant find the gears because you kick like a girl. I rode one today, not a single miss. Harleys are built tough. Kick like a man.
All Harley had to do to get yams approval was to build a bike that is nothing like a Harley 🤣
I know you didnt mean anything by it
Harley has built this I guarantee it's been years since I've seen one but they'll have motorcross bikes again
Dude, do a little homework. Right out the gate you’re getting el so many things wrong. No not 140 hp, 150.
As uber successful as the pan americas been harleys probably going to cancel it soon lol
This feels very different from spite's review, maybe a bit more real and less biased. Great to have two different takes on the same bike.
The fact that you still complain at the gearbox around the 9min marks tells me it's really not that great considering it's brand new
After watching your review of the Pan Am, and everything Spite has had to say about this bike. I am going to get one. I am going to keep my 2008 Electraglide Ultra. Just going to add this to the garage it sounds like a fun bike for the dirt. It is a dirt bagger, I like it. Thanks for the vids keep up the good work. Yes I am an old man at 65 doing something new.
For an off roading ability Harley, I don’t like the idea of removing the fuel tank to check the air filter for dust.
Gotta be honest, if you are just going to shit on a bike for no reason you might as well shorten the video
Probably a great 80/20 bike, but way overpriced. I’d rather have one KLR or KLX and 33/36K for exploring and adventures. Or a Husky 501 and still pretty much left over for exploring.
Heck, I could probably get a MultiStrada and have change back.
After watching this i love how it's completely opposite of everything spite said about the bike off road
Just waiting for papa yam to start saying,"hell yeah, brother."😊
This is a 60° V-twin, but it has a −30° split in the crankpin, so it fires like a 90° twin.
You get to qualify every opinion with "I own a a turbo hayabusa and..."
Much better video than the last , Yammy noob for me has always been about some hilarity , thanks for bringing that back , you should defiantly review more bikes you hate , it’s honestly your best work
With a 7.5 he obviously didn't hate it too much
So it’s an HD but it’s a dual sport. Are you still a real boy if you ride one?
george jetsons maid turned into a motorcycle ,the face up front, thats wat I see whhen i see this bike
2022 Panamerica Special has the quickshifter option. It works well. This is not a sport bike, Yam! Of course it doesn't have the throttle response of your Busa!
wow, a Harley that actually interests me? I thought I'd never see the day.
Full knobbies on a twisty asphalt road? Seriously?
Sportster this sportster that HD makes more than the sportster plant your but on a road king
I was expecting the Noobster to be in a traction bed at the hospital by reviews end.
a 1250 zipping around off road is impressive.
I told you that eventually you'd like Harleys 🤣
before buying this bike. please watch owners review videos.
Harley Davidson PanAmerica
I agree with the flag on that semi there 🤣
Yammie impressed by a Harley says a lot about the bike.
I think you would be more appreciated if you weren’t so negative all the time, you can clearly see the change in personality from a few years ago.
Devils Advocate Yam Man, Harley Boys are usually BIG BOYS...
Big boys demand big toys, Spite fits the bike well, a challenging ride is a good ride in my experience. My Vn1500 classic is a big heavy slug however I ride it like I stole it, from 0 to 100 I own the mofing road, glad I ride a Kwakka but some peeps probably reckon I'm a wanna be Harley Bloke, truth be known I always wanted a Heritage softail but hey I couldnt afford the insurance on that puppy and I dont have a back up vehicle, never had an oil leak and the tourqe is what I love... I would love to ride tjat Pan Am, looks fun and hey if ot was given to me I would take it off road and probably kill it in a few days..buT Hell it would be fun..
Harley blow up when you rev them without a load on them lol
