Mark my words: the Tigers will never have another incredible manager like Leyland. A shame he couldn't get the team over that last hump for a World Series title. The Tigers during his reign were something special, especially if you grew up watching them from the early 90's onward (my childhood). He had a fire that managers don't carry today.
He did his job in 2012 and then Verlander blew it in the Series. I still remember watching Verlander warming up. He was overdoing it BIG TIME. I was thinking JV settle down. Then he started pitching in the first and good bye Game 1. And I guess that "set the tone." Series. Over.
My sentiments exactly Born in 83 & I remember watching my Tigers on UPN50 Devi Cruz Tony Clark Brian Hunter Dean Palmer...Damian Easily & so many others..SportsCenter back when that was great used to mock us..still I watch & when 2006 came I simply just appreciated the ride with good baseball . 2013 vs Boston & still a pain I will never get over though..our best team during that run
He is a true American I mean it argues the he is polite he takes his hat off and stops arguing with the umpire when the song god bless America comes on then after the song is over he goes back to arguing
funny, this was my first impression of him, first time i ever saw him, first anything. as a 15 yr old kid, i thought he was scary, in my adult years though, i regretted that and wished i could be a tiger for him
Leyland’s Tigers beat the Yankees like a drum! Just like mentioning that…. Three playoff victories over the Yanks…. They were denied! And yes, I know the Tigers didn’t win the World Series while Leyland was the manager but on three occasions, the Yankees were prevented from winning another one, which is just fine as far as I’m concerned…. 😁
Jim Leyland. Hates umpires. Loves America.
And cigarettes
Jim Leyland was a guest on the Joe West podcast. He doesn’t hate umpires. Just doing his job.

Let's at least get a shout-out for Mayo Smith and "What can I do with Mickey Stanley here in 1968?"
