My favorite thing about umpires is that they can completely blow a call and then they make the team arguing against them pay for it. Makes complete logical sense
It sucks because there is no way the home plate umpire can make that call, but who else can?? Idk what but something needs to be done about calls like that
The home plate umpire did the right thing by going to the first base umpire as there was no way for him to see whether he caught it (which he did) or not. It was the first base umpire that got the call wrong. To be fair, he was over 90 feet away, even though he could see the play better than the home plate umpire.
And, as usual, the umps fuck up a call royally, and then throw people out of the game because the umpiring was terrible. They make horrible calls, and how they handle it is to eject the people who call them out for how bad they are. It seems to keep getting worse and worse despite the blessing of Joe West finally being gone.
So the first base umpire who is about 100 ft away from home plate makes the call about a possible foul ball or that the catcher did not catch the third strike!
That is absolutely ridiculous. You're saying that with a team of first ballot hall of famers you couldn't win a World Series without a closer? No matter who you had at closer he would have no more that ten saves because THERE WOULD BE NO SAVE SITUATIONS. You would win 100 games by 5 or more runs MINIMUM. If the closer IS your franchise, then why aren't they the highest paid position? Why doesn't everybody w/o both a closer and a closer of the future use their draft picks for closing pitchers?
Oddly, I am not a Tigers fan but I hate blatantly bad calls, too, regardless of which team its for or against. Doesn't everybody or are there some people out there whose teams need a little help to win? Still makes them losers.
I hate it when people use the wrong form of "their". Seriously how hard could it be....take 15 minutes, learn it, and for the rest of your life you never have to worry about making yourself look stupid.
umpiring is so unbelievable bad nowadays, it's almost as pathetic as the actual games have become. No heart, no grit, spoiled pansy ass millionaires tweeting during the fucking game

Detroit always gets screwed
Iain Smith exactly we need Jimmy leylond back
I miss Leyland
They vote for it.
Leyland knows the game and had every right ol being pissed
To this day, I don't understand why this is not reviewable. It seems objective enough where it could be.

Nice video, but I don't think that Lamont got ejected.
I'm a Red Sox fan, but I shake my head at the way the umps messed this up

It's typical calls for Boston.
That was some good arguing by Leyland
Im surprised he doesnt get dizzy from shaking his head so much
Joaquin Benoit is 13/13 in save opportunities with a 1.37 ERA, 13 walks and 53 K's.
These umpires need to be held accountable
Well crap- no Gene Lamont!!! I saw him when he played in the Southern League. A great catcher!
leyland looks like hes in fast forward at like 3:20
Enrique Garcia lmao!!
Was there a different rule back then, that I'm just forgetting about? Even if it was dropped, wouldnt it still be a strikeout?
theruling was that Aviles foul-tipped it into the ground, making it just a foul ball.
@@direcorbie oh, yea, that's just straight shit then. Really dumb ruling
I remember watching this live. I was so pissed of bc the play at second was a bad call as well. Inning should have been over when Aviles struck out...

3:30 Leyland accidently spits on the ump. When did Lamont get ejected. I guess like the base ump, I missed that call.
Spitting will cost Leland more money in the fine. And me, too, I did not Lamont get ejected.
Did I miss the part where Lamont got tossed?
Horrible umpiring made worse by throwing out managers on the other side of the field. What a clown.
Did the ump and manager insult each other's mothers?
Yes.
Is Jim leyland ever happy?
Only when Gene Lamont did a good job making his cigarette sandwiches.
Yeah when he won the World series.
Please tell me that you aren't serious.
Such a horrible call.
They had no business throwing him out of the game
Fired.
wow wow wow wow the tigers wernt in it that day.
WORST CALL EVER
I mean that I don't like watching people on the tigers getting tossed
Leyland is a boss haha
Leland is on fire!!!!!
Some wise guy in the comments want to claim this was a good call?

This umpires are awful and think they are bigger than the game.
Because they are better than your team. ;)
Fans hate when calls dont go there way
*Fans hate it when shitty and obviously wrong calls hurt their team.

Clearly in slow motion with a camera pointed at his glove it wasn't close.

I don't like it cause its the tigers
the umpires are just deaf.......and blind
nincompoops too
J. J. Judgmental prick ain’t you? Let’s see you get up there and see how easy that job is, eh?
