During a Q&A, I got to ask the son of Gerry Anderson, the creator of Thunderbirds and other "Super-marionation" classics what his father thought of Team America World Police. He said his dad hated it, even though he appreciated that it was intended to be a tribute to his work.
The “Dick, Pussy & Asshole” speech is one of my favorite comedy routines ever! Damn that was hilarious. I also love the “I so Ronery” song sung by Kim Jung Il. My daughter hates it when I sing it to her. I love it!
I missed out on getting to see this in theaters but when the dvd came out I was laughing to tears. In college anytime anyone said something unintelligent we would all respond with "Matt Damon." While a film like this would be bogged down to hell if it ever got made Im glad I can count on SOUTH PARK to still crack jokes about the ridiculous parts of society these days. I then remember walking out of the movie theater in tears, it was so funny. I watched it recently and considering the state of everything today, I think it's even funnier now, 😂😂😂.
Such a hilarious movie, they really take it to everyone. My favorite thing is when the puppeteers started working they were trying to make the puppet movements as lifelike as possible but Stone & Parker told no, they wanted them to look like they did in The Thunderbirds show.
it's not about the puppeteers. What happened is the faces and the lip sync was too good, that's what Trey & Matt asked to be toned down to make it funnier. They had to re-write some stuff because of the limitations of what the puppeteers could physically achieve. It's the technical hardware and software that was too lifelike.

I actually met the real life individual who was the inspiration for the character "Joe Smith" (the blond jock on the Team). He was based on former starting quarterback and (as of 2004) future head football coach at the University of Nebraska, Scott Frost. In a behind the scenes interview, Trey and Matt, while not mentioning Frost by name, made it clear he was the inspiration for the character by reveling that his back story was that he was a "former starting quarterback from the University of Nebraska who now serves as the 'quarterback' for Team America". Frost was, at the time, the only Nebraska QB that came anywhere close to matching the physical depiction of Joe Smith.

Hilarious movie! Thanks for breaking it down. Stone & Parker are comic geniuses. I love the slower version of America, F**k Yeh that they play during one of the sad parts. Comedy gold!
The originator of the original Thunderbirds show of the 1960s, the late Jerry Anderson, hated the live film action version. I remember him being interviewed about it and becoming very techy and refusing to answer questions.
When I saw this upon its release…. I was curious to see how they would take this film. As soon as the first fight scene finished- I died laughing and knew this was going to be hilarious. “There’s 3 types of people” 😂😂
I saw this at the movies too. The bit where he gets handed a hammer to kill himself followed directly by the Fuck Yeah song was too much for me. I was almost literally rolling in the aisle. I don't think I ever laughed so hard before or since.
I loved Team America and watched it at the friend's house while recovering from a nasty case of shingles. The sex scene is one of the funniest things I've seen and I forgot my discomfort for a long time.
I heard that Parker and Stone pre-empted that they would be asked to cut elements of the puppet love scene. Therefore they made it ridiculously long deliberately so that there would still be sufficient footage of it in the film for it to be hilarious. I hope it’s true because I feel like it’s the kind of thing they’d do and if so it worked a treat.
They knew that the MPAA (now renamed MPA) would give it a NC17 rating with what they wanted in the film, so they shot a lot more and sure enough got a NC17 rating. So they resubmitted it with cuts (of the extra, outrageous scenes they shot) that they never intended to be in the movie originally anyway, and the MPAA gave them a R rating, and they were able to keep everything they wanted, just the way they planned it.
It's amazing how something can be so funny that it can cause a panic attack. Once, when I was in Las Vegas, I was watching a kid play one of those "shoot 'em up" video games and he was specifically targeting all the innocent characters. I laughed so hard that I severely pulled something in my chest and had a panic attack.
YAY!! You mentioned Mel Brooks' ORIGINAL _The Producers!!!!_ Even with - or maybe especially because of - the Broadway musical remake and subsequent film of it, the absolutely brilliant 1967 (same here I was born) original tends to get really overlooked. But look: It was literally Mel Brooks' directorial debut, it starred the legendary Zero Mostel AND Gene Wilder in his first of many starring or co-starring roles. Almost the entire film is immensely quotable, with several scenes even being iconic. I have literally seen this film more than any other at 37 times.

I didn't get to see this in theaters but I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out. I hadn't laughed that hard in forever. After it ended on my first viewing, I started it right back up again. I loved Team America and watched it at the friend's house while recovering from a nasty case of shingles. The sex scene is one of the funniest things I've seen and I forgot my discomfort for a long time.
Wasn't 1998's _Bride of Chucky_ an earlier movie with puppet sex? 😮But anyway, thank you for the informative video. 😊
good catch
I bought that movie on DVD when it came out. My girlfriend at the time said, "Are you gonna skip to the puppet porn?" 🤣🤣
For those who haven’t seen this movie yet, you absolutely must see the unrated version. The sex scene was absolutely hilarious. I laughed so hard!
It really was! I could just picture the puppeteers crying laughing while filming it.
💩 lol
Cleveland Steamer and the “climactic” use of Silly String - greatest puppet movie of all time!!!
Came here to say this exact thing
what gary did to prove his loyalty will never be forgotten...
RiffTrax does a great job on MegaForce
I watched this film in a cinema in California while high on prescription strength weed.
I laughed so much my cheek bones were sore the next day!!!
Derka. Derka derka, mohammed jihad.
This was such an inspirational quote. I continue to live by it to this day
Hey Minty ..about the puppet xx look up "meet the feebles"
One of Peter Jacksons first movies.
you should do an episode on that 😂
"I don't think we had puppet sex before Team America" .... *Bride of Chucky enters the chat*.
Great vid Minty I remember when it came out great film and great message and the way this was done is absolutely amazing
Love this movie classic.
It's been 20yrs, it's time for a sequel Parker & Stone!
I gotta give credit for these two wackos who have so much crude and funny ideas that entertained us. No one can make a movie like this anymore.
There's only one thing you need to know. This movie is awesome.
The puking scene is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome movie fantastic review 👏
Being John Malkovich had a "puppet sex" scene four years earlier. It also featured Sean Penn saying he planned to get into puppetry.
Team America, FUCK YEAHHHH!!!! This was actually a comedy/ horror for me. Cuz dummies scare the hell out of me. Been a long time since I saw this but the shit was hilarious.
Film Actors Guild 🤣🤣🤣 I'm laughing at the acronym...take a moment and look it over.
God bless Trey and Matt ^_^
Brooooo that Intro stunned me! You got some voice acting skillz. props!
We need a 10 things about MegaForce.
You mean YOU NEED, you don’t know what everyone else needs. People like you need to stop saying we need or want and be honest and say I need or want.
@@mrsjackbauer1 your right I don't know what everyone wants or needs, but if you want to be to honest "F" off.
I didn't get to see this in theaters but I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out. I hadn't laughed that hard in forever. After it ended on my first viewing, I started it right back up again. I watched it 3 times in a row because I couldn't believe what I just saw was real. I was convinced I was having a hilarious fever dream or something.
This movie and Tropic Thunder couldn't be made today, fear of people being offended lol
The best part of the movie is hands down the soundtrack. You might not always feel like watching the movie, but the songs never get old. DVDA!!! 🤘🤘🤘
OMG they used Joseph Campbell's Myth studies to build the characters? That's fantastic. :)
Bonus fact: the Chiodo brothers also did the puppets in the hilariously funny Stargate SG1 episode 200
Americaaaa fuck yeaaaaaa
Anothuer wonderful video, I'm not sure if you do requests but consider the 1981 epic medieval fantasy Excalibur (film)!
My folks took me to see this in theaters. Dad & I were cackling, mom was grossed out😂 Based on how society is now, I treasure that memory so much more in my mid 30s
Great video! But every time you said “puppets”, I could hear Jimmy saying to Lenny “They’re _marionettes._ That’s what they are.” in That Thing You Do! 😂😂😂😂
First record i ever bought was Flash by Queen, 99p from Woolworths and my first ever Crush was Ornella Muti as Princess Aura !!!
An episode of Stargate SG-1 was inspired by the movie and used the same puppet makers
I uncontrollably laugh whenever I see this movie as if I have never seen it before. Great cover
