@@navyasrip The speakers are not the loudest but they are more than adequate unless you are in a very noisy environment. They are well balanced. I did not find them to be tinny like the awful speakers on the Dell XPS 13 or Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge. They definitely do provide moderate amounts of bass which is fine for listening to music. Of course if you are expecting them to be like you are using a separate subwoofer, then you will be disappointed. But I don't think anyone should be expecting that kind of sound on such a thin and light laptop.

Good evening Andrew! I'm glad you reviewed the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7. I'm sort of a Lenovo fanboy because they make great products. Yoga laptops would have been my favourite, but they are not because most don't offer many upgradeability options to spec it even higher, like a Thinkpad and not as versatile in terms of port selection. I like the smiley-shaped keys, which makes the keyboard comfortable and they are portable. Two big pluses. They thin and light devices, which is sort of what I want, but if a powerful processor was put in one of these laptops, it would be warm after some use, if you're doing video editing or game on it, even if the cooling solution helps keep the processor cool. With the screens, it's a hit or miss because most of them come with an OLED and if you're in luck, you'll get the IPS option as well.
The Qualcomm processors deliver long battery life and excellent performance and have beaten Apple in benchmarks, but this isn't always true. You see, Qualcomm still needs to work on native app support and through the PRISM emulation layer, the performance is reduced for launching the application (because it has to translate from one instruction set to the other) and you'll likely encounter an error if it fails to launch due to a missing instruction set or for some other reason.
I prefer a Thinkpad over a Yoga laptop because they offer more ports (despite them being bulkier, which I'm fine) and more upgradeability options and more stuff to configure. IPS would be my best bet for everyday use because they still deliver great colour contrast and 100%sRGB colour gamut is good enough and great for day-to-day productivity. One made-up example: If I were to work in a business and needed to connect my laptop to the monitor through the HDMI cable, use my USB-A ports and the mic head combo jack to connect my devices and my Ethernet cable, I need my ports. Don't take this example too literally, but I prefer for a laptop to include as many ports as possible over its form factor!
So, in terms of the Yoga Slim 7, would I want this device? Nope.
I'll give you my opinion why (with what I like, but not use):
    1. Display - prone to screen burn-in (if you leave the screen on for hours and you'll see visible marks) and NOT suitable for productivity tasks, but GREAT for those doing content creative work and watching movies with dynamic video footage delivering crazy high colour contrast of 10000:1 (true blacks). High Dynamic Range (HDR) makes the pictures and videos look clearer on an OLED to achieve extra clarity. Screen brightness goes over 500 nits and peak is 1000 nits, which is insane. The screen is overkill for me. IPS with 400-500 nit screen is just enough for day-to-day use. But I do like
    2. Ports - 3 USB-C ports, camera kill switch and power button (the last two are not exactly considered ports). It's quite thin (0.55 inches thick, so a huge sacrifice in port selection), which makes it portable, but during use, it warms up, with a couple hotspots. So, if you prioritise versatility (a broader port selection, go with a Thinkpad or other brand that offers lots of ports, BUT I just love Thinkpads because of that and they are great for day-to-day use).
    3. Battery life - while the Qualcomm processor delivers impressive battery life over 4K video playback (at 15 hours and 53 minutes), it could've been better, if you tune down the resolution and the refresh rate and other tweaks to save as much battery as you can. 4K video playback is overkill because I don't know how many people are doing that. 720p/1080p is much better because I'm conserving resources.
    4. Limited upgradeability options - the fast LPDDR5X at 8448 MT is darn fast and the storage still uses the 2242 form factor, which Lenovo should also 2280 form factor as another option. You can spec these up to 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage respectively (should be enough). But Lenovo can't make the specs go any higher.
So, if I hunted down for a new laptop, I'd get a Thinkpad (they offer the ports I need) with an AMD processor as they have reduced the power consumption for a small performance drop and manage heat better, if equipped with an adequate cooling solution and results in longer battery life. In terms of upgrades, I'd have a low-power 400 nit 100%sRGB screen, with 64GB of memory and 2TB of storage for a more intensive workload and store more stuff. MIght do video editing (not 4K, but 1080, yes) or content creation with this much RAM and storage, and also use it for experimenting with virtual machines and run more of them more easily.
Overall, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is a gorgeous product, but for anyone wanting an OLED screen, a thin and light laptop without thinking too much about ports and go with the route of purchasing dongles and accept it as it is and only stick with the apps that are natively supported on these Qualcomm ARM CPUs, this is for you.
To end here, I appreciate the videos you're making Marc and I'm glad you're one of these reviewers that opens the back of all laptops you review. I'm also glad you included your testing methodology (in terms of screen brightness, power management settings, etc.). For some of your previous videos, you didn't include any of that and I might assume that you've left them as they were. For example: I watched your review about the Yoga Pro 9i with the Mini-LED display from 2023, I think. I might be mistaken, but I watched the videos by jumping to the battery life. You might have thrown in the brightness you tested the laptop at. Again, keep up with the great work Marc and continue to review laptops with AMD and Intel CPUs, as well as Qualcomm (they're competitive, but they still need work, which I'm sure that it will include new improvements for their newest chips and also offer support for Adobe Creative applications and games (if it's going to happen) and broaden the application compability as much as possible)!

As a general purpose laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x laptop is fine for what you need it to do at the end of the day. As I've noticed with all of these laptops in 2024, the Windows ARM technology is brand new so you will have some features that will be hit or miss until they iron out the kinks but overall, it has a gorgeous OLED vivid display, long battery life and a price of $1199.99 which will not break the bank. The fact that there are no USB A ports, no SD Card reader, No HDMI and no headphone jack doesn't really surprise me as many manufacturers are trying to get away from it but it may bother some potential buyers. Soldered RAM might be another negative for people, however, it is running the faster RAM which is always a good thing. Gorgeous 1080p webcam, clear internal mics and great quad speaker sound quality makes this a pretty good laptop in 2024. Overall, it is a stunning product from Lenovo that shouldn't be overlooked! Excellent very thorough review once again Andrew!! 👍😁

Can you create a comparison video of Ultra 7 vs Ultra 9 processors? I am getting Asus Vivobook S16 Ultra 7 at 1400 usd and Ultra 9 at 1600 usd. Worth adding extra 200 usd?

    • @ass5kickin
      @ass5kickin Месяц назад

Not worth it. The ultra 9 only clocks slightly higher. No other difference. Go for the ultra 7. If it’s the U processors, then stick to ultra 5.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the review, a good laptop made this time Lenovo, even if i'm not a fan of lenovo company. Can you please make an comparazation review between Surface Pro 11 and ASUS ProArt PZ13 (HT5306)?

This is £1288.00 at Curry's in the UK or US $1659.99 which makes this the same price as all the other x elite machine's which often have the X1E-80-100 chip instead of the X1E-78-100 so not such a good deal in the uk and if you buy it on instalments they charge 29.9% apr interest on the loan.

It's cheaper to buy direct from Lenovo and then you get PayPal 0% for 4 months and more spec choices. I think you are incorrectly accounting for VAT which is shown on the UK prices but not on US prices until you checkout and then you get sales tax of some varying amount depending on the state. The Yoga really is the best spec/price ratio. I paid £1216 for 32GB + 1TB using one of their regular vouchers.

Hey, have you try running the test using the same resolution? Yoga is running at highest resolution.

If you ever get a job at a place called "a company" that has a type of event called "a meeting" , you may find it useful to buy a thing called "a dongle" that concentrates 6 ports including charging power into 1 USB-C wire, so you dock and undock in 3 secs. You will find that this one $25 devices saves you several minutes a day and quickly pays for itself!

Hey Andrew! Off-topic question. Today I went to buy the hp spectre 14 2024 based on your review. But the display was a little bit perplexing. It seemed there was some sort of cloudiness. When I downloaded a plain black picture, the display still showed some cloudy brightness. It is hard to explain in words. My question is that is this the part of OLED display(I have never seen an OLED display even for a TV). If this is not normal, how can I check the genuinty of the display? Any advice is appreciated as I really want to buy this laptop.

It is called screen door effect, just google it. It is mainly seen on OLED with pen-supported touchscreens like the HP. There is absolutly no screen door effect on the 7x (just typing on it), because it does not support a pen.

The Microsoft Surface Laptop I think has a way better build quality, an absolutely incredible trackpad, and it's also 1199 for the base Elite Plus model, with 13.8 inch 3:2 display. Although it's not OLED, that's true.
