I absolutely agree brother! Life's too short to hold on to petty issues that someone holds against one particular individual for years on end. It was Phil's fault for the reason why pantera disbanded, but everybody makes mistakes. Some small, and some big, but the key to every mistake we as humans make is to learn from em. It's so unfortunate how Pantera went out. They were such an epic once in a lifetime band that did so much for heavy metal, but between drugs/alcohol and some personal disagreements that were probably blown out of proportion by the worthless media companies looking to profit off the controversy, they just sort of stopped dead in their tracks after such a legendary streak of success. Then to see Dime get murdered for absolutely no reason shortly after they broke up was just brutal. It would have been really interesting to see how their music would have evolved past Reinventing the Steel and how Dime would innovate his guitar tone. When I see old iconic thrash metal bands like Metallica putting out fairly mediocre/forgettable albums in this day and age, I can't help but wonder if Pantera would still be kicking ass if they had stayed friends.
Apparently, it was Phil who caused the band to break up. He had other projects (Down for example) and didn't seem interested in Pantera, eventually Vin and Dime started Damageplan.

I love both Vinnie and Phil and wish they were able to reunite one more time before it was too late. I miss all these guys together so much and I wasn't even alive to see their prime. Actually was born right as it all ended, a year before in 2003. But even still this band means so much to me and it just hurts my heart knowing that they'll never be together on this earth again. Rest in peace Vinnie and Darrell. I am glad to see Phil doing better. He was in a dark place and was able to make it out. Forever thankful that he did.
As a Pantera fan this will always be heartbreaking to me ....what i don't understand from Phil is ..how did you not appreciate having those monsters next to you in that band? I mean dude you had the best metal could offer and you just through it away...i will never understand that
He really didn’t throw it away. He wanted to do his solo projects. He wanted to take a break from constantly touring and get back surgery. He knew he had problems with drugs and the back surgery was necessary. The guys didn’t like taking that much time off and all they wanted to do was Pantera. They gave him an ultimatum and went on blast about his drug use. At the same time they were full blown alcoholics. Everyone in the band was dysfunctional. The media painted it as all about Phil but through it all he was the one that grew up the most. He was the one who owned his mistakes.
its not that he threw it away per se. phil was really ashamed of his drug use and didnt know how to deal with it. plus he had other projects he was interested in, but he didnt know how to communicate this so he just kind of went missing in action. his avoidance hurt the abbotts though. really bad. they put him on blast for it and for his drug use (even though they were alcoholics themselves) because they were upset at him and also didn't know how else to take it. they felt like they lost a brother its just that none of them were in good shape. even rex was fucked up, if i remember right he struggled with alcoholism too. but there was so much hurt and misunderstanding and my heart breaks for all four of them. its so fucking sad. i wonder what wouldve happened if things didnt end this way. i empathize with phil being a previous addict myself. its a dark disgusting place. you do a lot of things to get away from it and some of them end like this. i wish they didnt have to.
@@RobotSnake “wanted a break from constantly touring” and “do his solo projects” (2 projects that had tours) contradict each other. Blaming the back surgery and the drugs is a cop out when he was doing solo projects and tours. Everything about it doesn’t pass the smell test. The drug use with Phil was an ongoing thing for years; even prior to the Trendkill album (which he didn’t record the vocals for in the same studio, instead staying in NOLA and mailing them the recordings); supposedly to “get clean”. Instead he continued using heroin for years. Hell… a Down album was released 6 months after Pantera stopped touring because of 9/11. I went to a show on the tour supporting that album in Nov 2002. And somehow managed in a 8 month period before the Down tour, he recorded an album, got back surgery, and kicked heroin? In the meantime, he left Dime and Vinnie hanging with no returned calls for 2 years; them wanting to get Pantera back up and running. As far as I can see, Phil really did “throw it away”. The comments he made weeks before Dime’s death about “he deserves to be beaten severely”, he permanently burned that bridge. And to say that in a magazine interview… that’s evidence he WANTED to throw it away.
@@hattorifixxxer7994you can say what ever the fuck you want, you can carry all that hate within your heart but there are a lot of younger people that never got to experience the greatness of Pantera when its was the amazing four but at least the younger people can get to experience a taste of half of Pantera so regardless of it being done for money or what ever fucking reason that you want to claim, people want to enjoy the music and experience a bit of what they never got to experience... if you were a true fan of Pantera you would take the time to understand that but to be honest... I think you are just a miserable and close minded individual that just wants to feel some sort of importance voicing their negative opinion online... I hope someday that you can grow past your immaturity and do better in life, I hope you heal... I hope the two of you heal and let the problems in Pantera stay between them, there is no need for you to live their drama because that was between them and had nothing to do with you. Grow up, no one likes to be around people that act like a twelve year old.
And yet he didn't need Phil. And when he died suddenly there is a Pantera 'reunion' or what the hell you want to call them. Against Vinnie's word of "There will never be a Pantera reunion because Dime's dead".
There was never a Pantera reunion or reconciliation with Phil because Vinnie never dealt with his brother’s death. He buried it in booze and felt that if he somehow made amends with Phil it would be a betrayal of his brother. He held Phil responsible for his death which we know now had nothing to do with his shooter’s motives.
I'm with Vinnie on this , vinnie and dime bag tried to contact Phil for about a year so they could get the band going again, Phil and Rex should have told them that they are going to go do their own thing insted of leaving them hanging, it wasn't very respectful to the fans either
@bigbananadealer846 part of the reason that guy shot dimebag was because the band broke up but it wasn't dimebags fault the band broke up, if Phil and Rex told vinnie and dimebag insted of making them wait around for a year this probably wouldent have happened
This is out of context imo. Remember Anselmo would go back and forth talking trash about Vinnie then he would say something nice to get in Vinnie’s good graces. Then he’d go back to talking trash. That’s just Phil Anselmo. Anselmo needed Vinnie for financial reasons. Vinnie wanted nothing to do with Anselmo because it just reminded him of how miserable he made Dimebag’s life for years before their breakup. Also keep in mind, Vinnie ACTUALLY lost his brother. For Anselmo to compare himself to Dimebag as if he’s also Vinnie’s brother is just insulting.
I wish they could of squashed it... I have a situation similar to this. I partly caused it but the guy was always putting me on the back burner. Anyways, I miss the guy all the time but I couldn't forgive anything that happened between us...
@@JMPK23Dime and Vinnie were calling him for 2 years before they formed Damage Plan. Phil didn’t answer the phone or return the calls. They were “pestering” him. It’s nobody’s fault but Phil’s
It's a shame they never reconciled, Phil extended the olive branch but Vinny would have none of it...bums me out Vinny went to his grave with hate on his heart😞
Vinnie would have never forgave Phil, he was Dimes older brother and he's torn up with guilt for not protecting his younger brother, Phil said some terrible things about Dime, Phil said "Dime needs to be beaten severely"...now how would any older brother feel about that? Some idiot inciting violence on a loved one? Vinnie forgiving Phil would have been betrayal in his eyes to Dime and I can totally understand that about his dead brother.
If pantera stayed together, they would have started releasing absolute crap and everyone would say they suck and only the first 4 albums were good and they sold out. Just like any other band
Those words that came from Phil here... ughh those quotes will forever be with me. Absolutely it was the media and this stupid VH classic corporate shit that have all ganged up on Phil. Shame on these mericliness bastards who ever they are!!! #RIPVINNIEPAUL #RIPDIMEBAGDARRELL
Yeah right. They way he left the Abott brothers and the shit he talked afterwards, Vinnie had every right to tell him off. He left them hanging because he was dosed.
Good work man. Yeah, a lot of fans are searching for footage now. Thanks again for sharing. Phil is sincere and I'm sure Vinnie knew it in his heart. Cheers to all Pantera fans.
Vinnie Paul held that hatred to his grave which is unfortunate. I understand why he was upset, but it could’ve been patched over with a phone call, a meeting, a text. Hatred is a hell of a thing to hold on to and it can be poisonous to the soul.
Even in the throes of addiction, Phil knew right from wrong. Those three guys were his BROTHERS. People say Phil is tarnishing Panteras legacy by going out without Dime and Vinnie under the Pantera banner, but it’s all just a big celebration. No one in that camp calls it Pantera. It’s a celebration.
A few days before Dimebag's death, Phil Anselmo said in an interview "someone should kill dimebag Darrell"obviously when you see the after effects he didn't mean it, and I bet he regrets saying those words, Don't ever wish death upon anybody, cuz you never know when it will happen
I know Phil's done some shitty stuff, and I get that while grieving you can do some crazy stuff, but going right back to an old friend you have issues with and telling him that he'll being dying soon after your own brother had, almost as if Vinnie is blaming Phil? Messed up. I don't know, we can't ever hear this conversation, but it still sounds messed up. What a dark time, and poor Phil. Who knows if Phil was really mostly in the wrong during their break up or not, but losing two old friends without being able to make amends beforehand probably messed him up.
Poor Phil? Dime was shot dead right in front of his brother's eyes, Vinnie had to deal with that pain for the rest of his life. But poor phil? A piece of shit who became a junkie because of back pain. Wah wah. How many working men broke their backs in the history of this planet without complaint? Yet we have filth anselmo a drug addict crying about his back pain. "Poor phil". Come on man
Long story short, Phil had a battle with the worst kind of drugs that ultimately led to him taking time away from the band on a reclusive level. The band got tired of waiting for him to come around and they decided to move on with Damageplan. Damageplan is what set off the ticking clock leading up to Dime's murder. Vinnie reasoned that if Phil didn't do what he did, Pantera would have kept going and Dime would still be here today. We don't know all of the details and I'm sure there was a lot more going on that we don't know. Phil wasn't the only one Vinnie excommunicated. He wouldn't talk to Rex either.
Vinnie did need you, Phillip. And now apparently you don't need Dime or Vinnie to make money off the Pantera legacy...you just need the approval of those who inherited the Pantera legacy.

i hurt for vinnie and Darrell, but a combination of pain over losing his brother, and hatred he couldn't let go of caused Vinnie to drink himself to death. He just couldn't move on and it fucking sucks. for everybody man. Phil made a lot of mistakes in the past but he didn't deserve the grudge and the bullying and the gatekeeping Vinnie, Dime and Rita put him through. If anything they where a major roadblock to him getting clean and it's amazing he managed to kick the heroin on his own. You usually need a support system. that whole "hitting rock bottom" and losing everything is a myth. That's not how most people get clean.

Strange doctor had Phil.....suggesting him heroin.....
Just about had a few hours without holding back tears. This is still raw and sad! LORDS UNMATCHED ...for fucking ever PANTERA 👊¥.
Phil was 100% correct here. Vinnie died with bitterness in his heart even though he'd never admit it publicly. Dime would not have approved.
Look at this pussy speaking ill of Vinnie ^ no man with a pair of balls would do that. Cry some more you selfish bitch
It's kinda ironic how vinnie paul never wanted to forgive phil in anyway and now pantera is "back" without vince or dime. Guess holding life long grudges aren't worth it
Pantera is never back without Vinnie and Dime. Pantera died with them.
not pantera.. tribute..for money
It’ll never be PanterA. It’s a tribute just like Dave Ellefson’s band.
Ironic considering Vinnie’s day came before Phil’s.
Never wish anything bad to anybody....karma is a biatch (don't want to say Vinnie was a bad guy at all. It was only his understandable bitterness)
Wow! That's was so profound. I'm speechless.
Heart breaking.
He was the one who owned his mistakes.
its not that he threw it away per se. phil was really ashamed of his drug use and didnt know how to deal with it. plus he had other projects he was interested in, but he didnt know how to communicate this so he just kind of went missing in action. his avoidance hurt the abbotts though. really bad. they put him on blast for it and for his drug use (even though they were alcoholics themselves) because they were upset at him and also didn't know how else to take it. they felt like they lost a brother
its just that none of them were in good shape. even rex was fucked up, if i remember right he struggled with alcoholism too.
but there was so much hurt and misunderstanding and my heart breaks for all four of them. its so fucking sad. i wonder what wouldve happened if things didnt end this way.
i empathize with phil being a previous addict myself. its a dark disgusting place. you do a lot of things to get away from it and some of them end like this. i wish they didnt have to.
He must have felt pretty decent. The guy did Superjoint Ritual and Down during that period of time.
@@stlchucko well said..sad but true..its the truth and what happended..phil was and is a piece of s.. ..bad friend ..he destroyed the band
Heartbreaking...
Good to have this out there to rest easy.
”The only safe and sure way to destroy your enemy is to make him your friend”. - Mark Twain
Well, technically Phil did die of a heroine OD and came back to life...
Not how that works
This is the reason why people aren't cool with the Pantera "reunion." That and Rex's book.
not pantera.. tribute ..and they do it for money
Quite insightful from Phil
This remember my battle against my mom.
Sad...
Knowing what we know now.... if this doesnt give you chills...... fuck man
I get it .....but Vinnie was stubborn af.
Misplaced blame and all
I'm with Vinnie on this , vinnie and dime bag tried to contact Phil for about a year so they could get the band going again, Phil and Rex should have told them that they are going to go do their own thing insted of leaving them hanging, it wasn't very respectful to the fans either
if i remember correctly vinnie also blames phil for dimes death. which is absurd because how is any of it phils fault
This was perfectly handled. What a guy.
Yeah racist asshole.. what a guy.
Wow...what a great response...it's so true...all of our days are coming not just with mortal death but with our spiritual Karma
Phil is the only one that learned from his past mistakes.
Awwwwwwwwwww he needs a hug!
I wish they had made it up
I wish they could of squashed it...
I have a situation similar to this. I partly caused it but the guy was always putting me on the back burner. Anyways, I miss the guy all the time but I couldn't forgive anything that happened between us...
no relationship can exist without respect and/or trust.
@@JohnDoe-sx2zk they could of repaired it, but I think Phil respected them to much to keep pestering them. And the boys were just too hurt.
@@JMPK23Dime and Vinnie were calling him for 2 years before they formed Damage Plan. Phil didn’t answer the phone or return the calls. They were “pestering” him. He turned his back on them and left them hanging. And then he killed any chance with the interview saying Dime “deserved to be beaten severely” that was printed days before his death.
It’s nobody’s fault but Phil’s
Damn, that's heavy man
So fuckin sad how this band got taken out from life, drama and stress. Best band in the fuckin world consisted of the BEST musicians. RIP PANTERA.
this is just too sad
Sad how it all worked out, but a real class response from Phil
So sad...sadness
Damn.... I really hope in time there will be a movie based on the epic life of these guys. It needs to be done
Love phil for this wu tang n Pantera got me thru childhood just put my headset n get into my own my ftw as Pantera
Rest in peace Vinnie and Dime. Phil, just learn and move on...
You don’t understand anything
Phil was right 😔
Just SAD, dude… Vince was Hurtin, and he needed a target for all that pain… that was Phil.
If pantera stayed together, they would have started releasing absolute crap and everyone would say they suck and only the first 4 albums were good and they sold out. Just like any other band
What music is playing in the end?
He know he fucked up and i do believe he regrets it
He was 💯% right....
Saddest day ever is when we had Dimebag stolen from us 😢 and it got worse after his brother passed
Yeah right. They way he left the Abott brothers and the shit he talked afterwards, Vinnie had every right to tell him off. He left them hanging because he was dosed.
Vinnie held grudge against him 13 years later, people can easily change during that time
Even Vinnie's girl said he should drop the shit. As far as I know he never did.
Ask Rita what she thought.
Great clip and words from Phil, but dude take "Your Day is Coming" out of the title.
jonas ness thanks. Another thing I was trying to come up with a good title for it instead of a basic one
Phil had what 2 years of chances should have answered the phone or called back
Phil is the man
Smack take your anxiety away,,
And the most fucked up in thing is.... Vinnie went before Phil . And with saying this in that content of the video . Damn man....
But vin doesn't need a junkie making the matter worse
Phil at least started taking care of his health and stop doing heavy drugs, now he only smokes and Vinnie snorted coke and drank all day til he died
Phil Alsemo really fuck up the band with his erratic behavior.
And what was holding a grudge worth? Vinnie took that grudge to his grave. Dudes should've patched things up.
Dont care for Phil but he's right everybody's day is coming......
Why dont you like Phil? He isn't perfect, no one is, but he's always genuine and willing to open up
@@QueenLiliTheRed ask dimebags folks that question......
Phil always seems like a good dude deep down who made mistakes and learned from them and became a better person
Really sad to see this in 2024. Phil was right and they loved each other.
Seems like he is nodding
Im sorry bout vinne and dime i konw is hard I'm hear for you i lost my papa lost 4 pets
The story of Pantera is a fucking tragedy.
Phil is a lot of things, disingenuous isn’t one of them
Well he got what he needed- a cash in
A few days before Dimebag's death, Phil Anselmo said in an interview "someone should kill dimebag Darrell"obviously when you see the after effects he didn't mean it, and I bet he regrets saying those words, Don't ever wish death upon anybody, cuz you never know when it will happen
Come on man
Could someone why vinnie never wanted to talk to Phil after dimes death? What did Phil do to make vinnie hate him so much.
@@aronalfayez Thank you for clarifying
@@aronalfayez why did he not talk to rex?
@@Benjamin042 No idea. I'm sure the information is out there, but I haven't researched it.
@@Benjamin042 Rex mainly stayed out of the drama between them.

He belonged at Darrells funeral, the fact that they kept him from being there is completely fucked up and uncalled for. I still think he should have shown up regardless.
U know what now.paul died so Phil and rex are all that's left I wish they even had one more tour I think there were talks of it now it could still happen but never be the same
I’ve had to deal with Phil . I won’t ever put myself in that situation again
Sounds like a bad experience 😕
