When I first bought my Apple MagSafe battery pack, I was seriously going to return it within the first week, but then I realized that it's not a battery pack to charge your phone and more like a battery extender. Basically what it does if you pop it on the back of your iPhone, and let your iPhone uncharge to about 88 to 90% it kind of activates the charging mechanism and keeps it at a respectable 90 to 91% supposedly to not stress out the battery and degraded quicker. I have honestly used my iPhone for a whole day and the battery extender has kept me at 91% until 12 or 1 o'clock in the morning of course what are use it more for is to protect the back of my iPhone from setting it on tables and what not my iPhone is completely naked and I take it off and on all the time. Of course, I wouldn't recommend people buying it for the steep price but if you could get it discounted, go for it, you would not be disappointed
It depends on the use case I guess, but $100 is too much for a battery pack/extender that if i was stranded couldn’t charge 100% charge my phone and other battery packs can 100% charge my phone.
I tried many, but none are as good as the official apple one first of all, it passthrough charges at 15w 2nd it protects the iPhone battery health 3rd when it gets hot, the phone uses enough power that it cancels out the battery charge, but the apple one will slow the charge to cool the phone and it will still charge
I have the cheapest version of the Anker one and I use it all the time. Bonus, you can plug into the pack with lightning to USB-C and charge even faster if that’s something you want to do. The apple one does not offer that at all and I use it on other random devices that I have around the house. Including my Apple Watch waited charger if needed when on the go. Wish it would wireless charge, but it’s better than nothing.
The Apple MagSafe battery pack works better as a battery extender. Charge your phone and battery pack to 100% and go on about your day. The battery pack will drain during the day, but in the evening, you will have around 90% battery left in your iPhone. 🎉
This is how I used mine when I first got it in late 2021 and it worked beautifully on my 12 mini. I just left it on all the time, plugged a lightning cable up to the battery pack to charge both batteries overnight, and it kept my phone charged to 90% until 6-7PM most days before the battery pack was depleted. But for the last year my battery pack automatically charges my phone to 100% after I unplug it from the charger, which means my phone stays hotter, power is being wasted so my total battery life is reduced, and I’m putting more wear and tear on my internal battery keeping it at 100% all day. The only way to fix it is to remove the battery and reattach it to my phone. Have you noticed this with yours? I feel like it has to be a software bug where the phone just forgets to limit charging to 90% when you unplug it from a charger. Unfortunately nobody seems to notice because most people probably just throw it on for a quick charge in a pinch. Very frustrating.
Hi Daniel, I just got mine recently and I only notice that the battery pack will charge the phone to 100% if I have it connected to a charger via the lightning connector. I didn’t even know that before this, you could let it stay at up to 90%, while plugged in. That would be the expected behavior for me too. Now, I’d like to understand what do you mean by “removing and reattaching the battery”?
@@leegengxiang2173 Thanks for your reply. So if I leave the battery pack on my phone and plug a lightning cable up to either the phone or the battery pack (I usually plug up to the battery pack overnight and I’ll plug up to the phone in my car to use CarPlay), both batteries will charge to 100%, as it’s designed to do. But when I unplug the lightning cable, the battery pack keeps charging my phone to 100% until I take it off my phone and put it back on, even though I don’t have the “charge past 90% setting enabled. If I charge my battery pack separately and then unplug both and put the battery pack on my phone, it works properly and only charges to 90%.
@@DanielGoff527 may I know at what state of the battery % is your phone when you unplug? Perhaps it’s already past 90%, say 100% and by then your MagSafe battery pack can’t actually charge to 90 by then..?
@@leegengxiang2173 Right, so the way it’s designed to work (and the way it used to work when it first hit the market in late 2021), is you would unplug the charger with both batteries charged to 100%, and it would let the phone use the first 10% of its internal battery and then it would hold the charge at 90% and siphon power off the battery pack until it was depleted. Sometimes if you were doing heavy tasks it wouldn’t be able to keep up and the internal battery would dip below 90% temporarily and then the battery pack would charge it back up to 90%. This was an intelligent design because it takes a lot less power to keep a battery charged at 90% than it does to keep it at 100%, so it maximized the efficiency and the available battery life of the battery pack. It also reduced the wear and tear on the internal battery by not keeping it charged to 100% unnecessarily, thus preserving your iPhone’s battery health. So I liked just leaving the battery pack on all the time, having maximum possible battery live whenever I found myself away from a charger for a long time, and I liked preserving the health of my internal battery. But for the last year, it holds the charge at 100% after unplugging from a charger until I take the battery pack off my phone and put it back on. While it’s charging to 100%, the phone stays hotter, it wastes a lot of energy which shortens the life of the battery pack, and it’s putting more wear and tear on my internal battery. I feel like this has to be a software bug, it’s like they pushed out an update and just forgot a line of code that tells the phone to limit charging to 90% after you unplug from a charger. But nobody notices because nobody understands how the battery pack was designed to be used - they just assume you throw it on for a quick charge when your phone is dying, which is incredibly inefficient. And it’s frustrating because it used to work perfectly until about a year ago.
One extremely important advantage of the Apple pack is its thermal management for the iPhone and battery pack - which no other 3rd party pack (to my knowledge) has. You forgot to mention the most improtant aspect of magsafe battery pack - the heating. The best thing about apple magsafe pack, is that it has temperature monitoring which pause charging when the battery heats up. Other brands just heat up like a cooking stove. This is incredibly important bevause lithium ion batteries are permanently damaged by heat.

Thanks! For your wife, the SE does not have MagSafe, so these kinds of battery packs won’t work wirelessly. And since her iPhone still has lightning, I would suggest something like this: amzn.to/40SZA2D will need to be charged with USB-C, FYI

The Anker 622 is practically a hand warmer. The heat it produces is bad for your phone battery. I just wish they have like an off button / trickle charging mode as a way to mitigate this.
Did apple unlock the 15W mode when not connected to a charger? or still 7.5W...AFAIK the 15W is only available on the Apple magsafe if it is connected with the wire and functions as a magsafe puck
I used the Mophie battery pack on my 14 Pro but I didn’t like it, it overheated my phone several times, and it blocks my camera lens just as you showed on the video! It was a real disappointment
Interesting to hear that the Apple charger doesn’t make the battery hot. Why do you think that is? I bought a third party charger and it makes the phone so hot that it can’t be good for it.
I get a little wary of really hot battery charging, it's why I tend to use Apple's MagSafe battery the most. But in a pinch and when traveling, I like having multiple. You can always use the Anker or Mophie ones as a wired charger as well and then you don't have to worry about heat. Just need a USB-C to lightning cable.
Prolonged heat exposure can negatively affect battery health, and the non-apple ones do get hot. If you’re using it a few times a month it’s probably ok. For more often use I’d go with Apple’z
Any MagSafe battery back (beside Apple's first-party pack), will get hot when charging. It's ok every once in a while, but wouldn't recommend charging that way every day.
Heat is definitely an enemy to battery health. If you’’re using the battery pack *every day*, you may want to switch to Apple’s. While it charges slower, that’s what limits the heat experiencing when charging. If you only charge via MagSafe battery periodically, it’s ok to experience that heat if it’s not too often.

Now, with our beloved Apple battery pack discontinued, which is your best suggestion for a solution that will not fry my iPhone?
Thanks!
Appreciate that! And I need to test some new ones, but I would recommend waiting for Anker and Mophie to release their Qi2 battery packs. Once those are out I'll do a roundup review!
@@beardfm thanks Stephen.
Do you think iPhones will require a software update for the newest Qi version?
I am sorry this might sound like a dumb question... I am looking for a case for my iPhone. I wonder if I should get a case with MagSafe or just a normal case without it? What will save me money in the long run? I have no MagSafe accessories at the moment, but I wonder if they are worth the investment. Thanks a lot in advanced! and for making very informative and helpful videos!
Hi Linda! Even though you don’t have any MagSafe accessories now, you may find something you like in the future. I would future-proof your case and get one with MagSafe built in. A MagSafe car mount alone is really useful!
@@beardfm Hello! Thanks so much for the reply! I have been hesitant because what if I get one with MagSafe built in then don't use that function with anything and end up looking like an idiot haha. I am leaning towards getting the one with the MagSafe built in atm as it seems like the world is leaning towards that option too.
Hi,
Is Anker 621 power bank support to iPhone 15 pro max ??
The Apple battery pack is probably more conducive for iPhones battery health. Those others may have a deleterious affect over time through consistent use…
🤔
Bonus points for “deleterious”
How Long does it take for those Battery packs to charge ? Are they charging nearly as fast as the charging Station for wallboxes or pcs via usb-c? (Sorry i dont know the right english Phrase but i Hope you know what i mean? Normal cable what comes with the phone and what you Plug into the pc or something)
This guy has such a charming manor. I’m buying all of these
Thanks 🙏🏻 very kind
Can I use this with a 15 pro. If I plug in my 15pro, will the battery charge if it's attached to the MagSafe?
You can! And the only battery that will charge when the iPhone is plugged in specifically is Apple's battery pack
I just got the Anker one and it’s good for what it does but it heated up so bad my phone said charging stopped till the iphone resumed operating temperature. Or whatever warning that reads exactly. But it took my iPhone 15 pro max from 19% to 80% on a full charge. But it’s great for taking it on an outdoor trip to say the zoo or park where large battery drain from pics and videos will occur.
There’s actually some better options since this video published, and I would recommend getting a Qi2 option if you can! ruclips.net/video/4b1VJ6OZkWU/видео.htmlsi=UlTQjWzfHWMoqXFs
Apple needs to step up their MagSafe battery pack.
Adam Elements C5 shows battery percentage on iphone widget, good choice.
Really? Will test
Which should i buy in 2024 for iphone 13??... Please suggest me.
Anker’s Qi2 Battery: ruclips.net/video/4b1VJ6OZkWU/видео.htmlsi=7AzTuQWXy5KcTvXE
I’m still using my belkin boost charge magnetic power bank.
That’s a good one too!
This is the video review I needed! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
This was very beneficial! Thank yoy
Do u think the Apple battery pack is still worth in 2023? Or do u think they will release another one on the next keynote ?
I’d wait til next month. They may release a version with USB-C and/or new features!
Can i charge iphon 15 pro max with apple magsafe battrey pack
You forgot to mention the most improtant aspect of magsafe battery pack - the heating.
The best thing about apple magsafe pack, is that it has temperature monitoring which pause charging when the battery heats up. Other brands just heat up like a cooking stove. This is incredibly important bevause lithium ion batteries are permanently damaged by heat.
For sure. I actually discuss in my recent video on the first Qi2 battery here: ruclips.net/video/4b1VJ6OZkWU/видео.htmlsi=vm4QYOJ4D2YNOH-0
What’s crazy I have a portable battery I bought from Amazon 5 years ago for 20$ is not wireless I still have to use a cord BUT I get 2 full batteries on my iPhone 12 Pro.
Thinking about buying one of this but just to get 60% on a phone more or less might not be worth spending double
I'd actually wait as well since Qi2 wireless charging accessories should be launching very soon, which is more efficient and charges faster!
So are they like an extra battery charge for when your phone is dead and can’t charge anywhere? Will it work on the new iphone 15 pro?
It does! Battery pack still works 😏
Do i need magsafe case? I have a silicone case but not magsafe
first time here and sincerely you just got a sub from me. Great content
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@@beardfm welcome 🙏🏽
Apple no longer has the magsafe battery pack. I have looked and can't find one.
They’ve discontinued it, but qi2 has come out and is even better! I discuss here: ruclips.net/video/4b1VJ6OZkWU/видео.htmlsi=6L5_leFfUdKf22NX
I got the Apple mage safe battery pack however it doesn’t hold its charge throughout the day when your not using it. I had it at 100% and left on the side and it started draining already so when I needed to use it, it only had 20% battery juice left.
How long does it take to charge from 0% to 40% charge for an iphone 14 pro max using apples magsafe ?
Wondering the same so im commenting in ur comment lol
@@tonygonzalez6582 I might just buy it to find out haha
@@d4rksoci3ty same bro I got the 14 pro regular and might buy it to find out lol, it already charges fast enough but with the apple magsafe lets see if its the same speed
@@tonygonzalez6582 cool bro. I saw someone saying that with the battery pack their battery just stayed around 85% all day, so it’s better as a battery extender and not a charger if that makes sense lol Gonna buy it anyway I guess let me know your results if you do buy one
Thanks for the video. Will the Apple Mag safe charge the watches?
Not the watch, but it can charge AirPods.
@@beardfm great thanks
Which one would you recommend I have the 15 pro max the apple magesafe or the anker
I still prefer the Apple battery pack if you can get your hands on one. But maybe wait for Qi2 packs to come soon. I explain here: ruclips.net/video/wmzUcD1usFA/видео.htmlsi=fjP0A_QP-wvUUswn
so is the Anker not a good option anymore? will it over heat my 15 pro max? How long before Qi2 packs come out? What's the meaning of life?! LOL..so many questions! Thanks! @@beardfm
Wow nice comparison! Apple MagSafe for sure !!
Great video but I need some help. Non smart phone owning, technically inclined husband here. My wife will be traveling this summer and I'd like something like this for her to keep in her purse. Would you please give me your educated suggestion on what's best for a SE iPhone second-generation.I was also looking at one of those AquaVault chargecards but they look like they're just supposed to get you by. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Thanks! For your wife, the SE does not have MagSafe, so these kinds of battery packs won’t work wirelessly. And since her iPhone still has lightning, I would suggest something like this: amzn.to/40SZA2D will need to be charged with USB-C, FYI
@@beardfm Thanks a ton for the suggestion, I appreciate it. I'm looking at the Anker, as you suggested, with the Built-in Foldable USB-C Connector. Tell me, what your opinion of those AquaVault chargecards ?
i bet the esr is the second best i just bought my mom a anker 321 i think?>> iths pretty good but it gets a little warm
I’m going to get the 14pro max cause I heard batter life is way better and I work construction Soo I need battery don’t they still make the original iPhone charging cases for the newer phones or not I’m confused but outta this videos which one is better
God Bless you, it was such a helpful video
Is it suitable for 15 pro max
Yes it will work!
Hi I have the 622 and it’s pretty nice. Can you please review the ESR HaloLock Kickstand MagSafe 10k?
Dude I love MagSafe battery packs. I have so many lol
What’re your favorites?
Do these work for samsung?
can you also charge apple watch on apple batterpack and on the other brands?
Not Watch but you can charge AirPods!
Great Video, thank you sir
To I phone xr how many times I can charge with single charge mac battery pack
What if you plunged in both at the same time????
What do you mean?
Is the Anker 622 compatible whit the iphone 14 pro max ???
Why did you prefer the regular pro and not the pro max? Just curious ?
The Pro Max is just a little too big for me. It’s a strain to reach everywhere and pretty heavy
The Anker 622 is practically a hand warmer. The heat it produces is bad for your phone battery. I just wish they have like an off button / trickle charging mode as a way to mitigate this.
Yeah it does get hot. Apple’s is the only one that doesn’t.
Najbolja je LILA baterija 👶🏼
Amazing if it works with case on the phone.
Belkin one is great as well
But if i buy this one and i upgrade from iphone 14 pro to 15 pro will it also work on 15 pro?
Absolutely. MagSafe should stay consistent even as new models come out. It’s been the same since iPhone 12
Looking for something for base model S23. Those vertical cameras make magsafe annoying 😂
I don’t see the charge past 90% option when I have my MagSafe battery pack connected. Any thoughts as to why?
Did apple unlock the 15W mode when not connected to a charger? or still 7.5W...AFAIK the 15W is only available on the Apple magsafe if it is connected with the wire and functions as a magsafe puck
No, it’s 7.5 from battery pack wirelessly.
Thank you! Great information. 📱
You’re welcome!
I have a 15 max pro so the MagSafe charging cord won’t work on my phone
What do you recommend for 15 pro?
Anker Qi2 battery for sure: ruclips.net/video/4b1VJ6OZkWU/видео.htmlsi=mL2Wa6W_q7v0YLMP
I love that you think my family members have a phone new enough to utilise a MagSafe charger haha! 😂
Do u need a mag safe case? Or any case will do
magsafe
I used the Mophie battery pack on my 14 Pro but I didn’t like it, it overheated my phone several times, and it blocks my camera lens just as you showed on the video! It was a real disappointment
Yeah I keep going back to Apple’s
Interesting to hear that the Apple charger doesn’t make the battery hot. Why do you think that is? I bought a third party charger and it makes the phone so hot that it can’t be good for it.
I get a little wary of really hot battery charging, it's why I tend to use Apple's MagSafe battery the most. But in a pinch and when traveling, I like having multiple. You can always use the Anker or Mophie ones as a wired charger as well and then you don't have to worry about heat. Just need a USB-C to lightning cable.
Solar Magsafe Charger is the best option 😮
Do non-apple magsafe batteries affect battery of the iphone?
Prolonged heat exposure can negatively affect battery health, and the non-apple ones do get hot. If you’re using it a few times a month it’s probably ok. For more often use I’d go with Apple’z
Where do you get those?
Links are in the description!
Is it normal for the phone to get hot? Only 30 minutes and my iPhone 14 gets hot when charging. I have the anker 1
Any MagSafe battery back (beside Apple's first-party pack), will get hot when charging. It's ok every once in a while, but wouldn't recommend charging that way every day.
Is there any of them that doesnt get extremely hot while charging the phone... I got the Anker one and it was awfull experience
Apple’s MagSafe battery gets the least warm, Mophie second.
@@beardfm Thank you... Will that harm the battery life when the phone is charged this way
Heat is definitely an enemy to battery health. If you’’re using the battery pack *every day*, you may want to switch to Apple’s. While it charges slower, that’s what limits the heat experiencing when charging. If you only charge via MagSafe battery periodically, it’s ok to experience that heat if it’s not too often.
hi i bought anker 622 but it gets very hot and it could only charge 65% in 4 hours.
Unfortunately every battery pack (besides Apple’s) gets pretty hot.
Great video
Does the Anker 621 also charge the Airpods?
It can! As long as your AirPods case supports wireless charging.
Got the Anker 622 for less than $16
Very well explained 😊
Appreciate that!
can someone tell me if the apple one fits on iphone 13 mini?
Do they make one with built in Wall plugs to charge it?
I haven’t seen one like that
I like it .. to be bought
I work in scaffolding. And just use a dewalt usb charger unit on my 20v batteries. Workss like a treat
Great review.
